Important. Before you start working on old jeans, they need to be washed and ironed. You need to work with a clean cloth so as not to get dirty and not to stain the environment. In addition, if some stain does not wash off, then it is already possible to determine in advance that this area should not be used, or used, but in the invisible part of the bag, beat the cut, cover this place with a pocket, decor, and so on. And it is necessary to iron it because it is impossible to cut on crumpled fabric, everything will turn out crooked.

Bag base

The base of the bag is essentially the bag itself without handles. It is very easy to cut out a base from old jeans, from their parts.

A denim bag of the simplest cut can be sewn from the top of the trousers. To do this, you need to cut off the legs to the base to get a kind of "skirt". And then there are two options to choose from:

  • you can simply fold the base as it is, as jeans are worn, and sew, turning it inside out (they always sew from the inside out), the bottom of this figure along the cut. Then you get a flat bag folder;
  • you can make the bag bulky. To do this, from the seamy side, the corners are laid inward with triangles, so that the tops of the triangles lie on the bottom of the bag, and the triangle is attached with the base to the bottom. It turns out a highlighted bottom and walls.

In both cases, you get a rather original and functional handbag, on which already have pockets.

You can also just sew a handbag from separate parts, that is, trousers and other parts from old jeans. The patterns here may be different. It is not difficult to draw them.

The simplest pattern is a rectangle, trapezoid, square. Moreover, these parts can consist of several parts, and not only of the whole panel. To do this, you can grind any pieces you like together. In some cases, it may even become decor element.

So, you can make patchwork-style cloths with your own hands - from patches of the same shape and size (while they can be of different colors - it will also be original), in the freeform style - a chaotic combination of patches of different size, shape and even texture. You can also sew denim scraps with scraps of completely different fabrics, variegated. Denim bags are space for imagination.

First, let's figure out the base. For simple sewing of such a shape, you need:

  • draw a pattern in the form of the selected figure of the selected size;
  • then transfer it to the fabric, circling with tailor's chalk (or other similar device) and add along the edges - along the bottom and sides, 1 centimeter for allowances, along the upper edge 2-3 centimeters for the hem;
  • cut out two sketched blanks, fold them facing each other and sew side seams;
  • draw a pattern for the bottom of the bag. The bottom can be oval, rectangular, square - whatever. The main thing is that the bottom perimeter is equal to the length of two parts of the base plus 1 centimeter around the entire perimeter for allowances;
  • fold the parts face to face, pin and sweep with thread, and then sew the parts together on a typewriter.

Important! Denim fabric tends to crumble, fringe. Therefore, it is imperative to process all loose fabric cuts with overlock seams. If there is no overlock, then you can sew a zigzag stitch, you can manually. But in modern sewing machines, even simple ones, there are at least a couple of seams, imitating overlock.

So, the simplest foundation is ready.

Despite its seeming simplicity, sewing such a bag out of jeans is just the beginning. You can leave it as it is. You can make holes in the upper part along the edge, stretch a cord through them - and you get a bag-bag, you can assemble the upper edge into ring handles (metal or bamboo ring handles can be purchased at many needlework stores), and so on.

Pockets from old jeans can be sewn to the resulting base. Moreover, you can exactly, like on jeans, you can on the front side, you can on the sides, as you want.

Lining

You can sew a denim bag without lining, but with it a denim bag will be stronger, more practical, more aesthetically pleasing.

The lining is sewn in the same way as the base, that is, it should completely repeat the bag in shape. Pockets can be sewn to the lining, which will be the inner pockets of the bag. In this case, you need to sew on the pockets even before it is sewn lining to the bag.

If the bag is to be closed with a zipper, then the upper edge of the lining must be tucked up, pinned or swept. Place the lining in the base, seamy side to seamy side. Then sweep the lining to the bag below the top edge by one and a half centimeters. Then insert the edges of the zipper between the base and the lining, pin them or baste them, and to sew on a typewriter.

Important. The lining fabric can be any, but (!) Choose durable fabrics that do not creep or tear. It is not in the interests of the hostess to look, for example, for keys somewhere under the lining, because they pierced a thin or loose fabric. Yes, and sprawling fabric at the seams or holes - even inside the bag - this is ugly and uncomfortable.

Pens

Bag handles are not only a functional integral part of a bag, but they can also be a decorative element!

For sewing simple handles, you need to make straps. For this:

If the strap is sewn in, then the transverse edges do not need to be sewn, but it is better to process them. Sewn-in straps are inserted between the outer fabric and the lining, pinned or swept in, and sewn together with base and lining.

If the straps are sewn on from the outside, it is better to sew them with several seams, for example, criss-cross.

Bags made of old jeans are good because they allow a lot of liberties, imagination. So, the straps can be sewn from a different fabric, a different color, parts from which can be sewn to the bag as decor elements.

In addition, bag handles can be made from other materials: from cords (curtain and other decorative), from belts, from braids woven from the remnants of fabric and other fabrics. You can insert large eyelets and thread handles through them. You can use ready-made handles - like the already mentioned handle rings. It all depends only on the desire and imagination of the craftswoman! DIY jeans bag is a reflection of individuality!

Decor

Decorating accessories is a wild fantasy! You can decorate a bag from old jeans as soon as your heart desires.

The simplest options for external decorations are:

  • all kinds of decorative badges, buttons, pendants, patches (patches), glue and sewn on rhinestones, sequins, beads, beads and so on;
  • decorative braid, ribbons, lace, frills, cords;
  • rivets, buttons, eyelets as decoration;
  • drawings with paints on fabrics;
  • appliques, patches ...

In addition, as a decor, you can use a combination of fabrics for the base of the bag, which were mentioned earlier (patchwork, freeform).

You can continue indefinitely, because a bag made of jeans is a very grateful, free material, just calling for the flight of creativity, and it is very easy to sew a fashionable bag from old jeans with your own hands! And for sure, a do-it-yourself denim bag made according to your own sketches will be a perfect exclusive and p a piece of pride.

Stylish denim bag. We sew on a pattern

This handbag is distinguished by its simplicity of execution and original design. It will be easy even for a novice needlewoman to make it. For this:

  • transfer the pattern to paper with the specified dimensions. However, the size can be made to any size. But if this is your first thing, then it's best to stick to the exact guidelines throughout the entire process;

  • pay special attention to the darts. Do not give up on them, otherwise the bag will turn out flat;
  • after the pattern of the bag is ready, you can proceed to work with the fabric;
  • cut one leg from the jeans and open one of the side seams on it. Repeat the same steps for the second pant leg. As a result, we got 2 canvases for the front and back of the bag;
  • using chalk, transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut out the parts, leaving 10 mm allowances on each side;
  • fold both parts right sides to each other and sew the side and bottom parts on a typewriter;
  • connect the edges of the darts, fix their position with sewing pins and sew strictly along the line;
  • then we start decorating a denim bag. Cut off the pockets and sew them the way you like. You can make pockets on the sides, you can sew both on one side, or even overlap each other. Experiment and choose the option that seems the most harmonious;
  • we sew a beautiful frill. Cut off a strip of any beautiful fabric 0.7 * 1.2 m in size.Fold it in half along the long side and sew it on a typewriter or manually, while making folds;
  • cut off the belt and yoke from jeans, sew our ruff to the detail. Sew to the seamy side of the belt so that the frill protrudes by about 30 mm;
  • we connect the two parts and the bag is almost ready. It remains only to make the handles;
  • we weave strips of denim and the second material, as shown in the figure. We fix each "knot" with a thread;
  • we sew handles to the bag and ...
  • Let's go pick an outfit for a new accessory!

    It is not so difficult to sew a bag from old jeans with your own hands.

    You can use the top of the pants, which is almost ready for the top of the bag, or cut off the legs, open them and use them as a canvas for the pattern of the future bag.

    In addition, by sewing on rags of denim of different colors, you can first make a patchwork, and from it you can make patterns for bag parts.

    So making new ones from old things with your own hands is quite real magic, you just need to apply skillful hands to these things and dream up a little.

    Sewing bags from old jeans is just one of the category of such simple transformations.

    Indeed, in fact: the top of denim pants is an almost finished bag.

    It remains with your own hands to turn these jeans that have become unnecessary into a new and fashionable handbag.

    Moreover, such bags are different and are used for different purposes.

    How to sew a mini-MK backpack by Elena Bogdanova.
    Author's words:
    If you have old jeans, a bit of imagination and free time, you can create just such a new thing.

    And this is a small tip for those wishing to do something similar. To be honest, it was not a peephole that cut out the details, adjusted them in the process of sewing. The sizes are approximate, as far as the size of my jeans allowed to roam.

    And a short excursion into the creation process.
    1. Prepare everything you need: jeans (which are no longer a pity), zippers (I have a long 48 cm, two short ones for 13 cm pockets), leather trimmings (for application), slings (for shoulder straps, it took me about 3 m), 4 half rings (along the width of the sling), threads for sewing and stitching, fabric for lining, scissors, crayon.
    2. We will disassemble the jeans at all seams into separate parts, iron and cut out all the necessary details. It is better to cut the back and front from those parts that are below the knees - they, as a rule, are less worn out and stretched.
    3. Sew the halves of the front and back of the backpack (in a long straight line). Do not forget to cut them out correctly - the result should be an arch!
    4. Take on the pockets: sew in the zipper and attach the applique using pieces of leather or some other material (preferably with non-peeling edges). That's where the creativity is! My soul went to this wonderful pussy. Or you can go the simpler way - take a ready-made applique, which are abundant in shops for needlewomen.
    5. We attach the resulting pocket beauty to the front of the backpack.
    6. Sew the bottom to the front and back. An important point: between the back and the bottom on the right and left (about 3 centimeters from the side edge) we sew in two half rings using a piece of sling. This will help further adjust the length of the straps. By the way, you can also use a buckle as a regulator.
    7. Duplicate the back and bottom with a rigid pad so that the backpack more or less keeps its shape. It is probably more convenient to use doublerin, but I just scribbled pieces of the line.
    8. Sew a zipper between the details of the upper part. Please note: the width of the zipped top should be equal to the width of the side.
    9. We connect the sides and the upper part into one long whole.
    10. And with this longest whole we connect the front, bottom and back to make a backpack. Do not forget to sew a handle and straps between the back and the top.
    11. Almost the final touch: if the desire to create has not yet disappeared, we do the same manipulations with the lining (there is no need to do the pockets!) And sew it inside.
    12. That's it! We admire the result, praise ourselves for talent and perseverance. Well, and of course, we are walking our masterpiece!

    Success in creativity and inspiration!

    Aug 13, 2015 Galinka

    If you have old jeans lying around, then do not rush to throw them away, you can sew a wonderful travel bag from them. Such a bag will be quite durable and roomy, since denim is dense and some pairs of jeans will be enough for a large bag. So, How to sew a travel bag from old jeans with your own hands.

    First, cut off the back of the leg, there is already a pocket.

    Cut it out exactly so that there is a rectangle. It should be of such length that when folded, we get a bag. This will be the middle part of the bag.

    If you wish, you can make another pocket on the other side of the rectangle.

    Sew the lining inside.

    On both sides of this rectangle we sew 2 pieces of material of the same width - these will be the sides of our bag. To do this, use the front of the leg.

    Now we close the side seams with a trouser tape, or, for example, you can put a bright tape at your discretion. We immediately determine the length of our handles. The handles for the bag can be passed through the entire bag for durability.

    We sew in a zipper.

    Fold and sew as in the photo below. Make the bottom. To do this, turn the bag to the wrong side, fold the sides into diamonds (see figure), sew along the bottom line. You can substitute thick cardboard in the bottom. For strength and durability, the cardboard should be trimmed with jeans from all sides. The cardboard can be placed in the bottom at the stage of strengthening with a cloth.
