National embroidery is always in trend

Today it is impossible to imagine without such an element as an embroidered shirt. She is a shirt or blouse, and sometimes a dress, decorated with traditional embroidery. It has long been worn by both women and men. Such models have significant differences not only in cut, but also in the location of hand embroidery. Today you can buy ready-made clothes of this kind without any difficulties, but a real exclusive is a do-it-yourself embroidered shirt.

History and features

The history of embroidery goes back to the depths of time. The first mentions of such clothes are known in the Trypillian culture, where clothes were embroidered with special symbols and signs to protect them from evil, filth and unkind thoughts. For many centuries, embroidered shirt has been a reflection of the traditions and peculiarities of cultural development in one period or another. The cut of the clothes, the features of the patterns and ornaments with which it was decorated, depended on this. Traditionally, embroidery consisted of the following patterns:

Geometric - these are crosses, lines, zigzags, triangles and rhombuses, as a heritage of Slavic mythology;

Vegetable - a plexus of stems, flowers and leaves, as a symbol of life and love;

Animalistic - roosters, cuckoos, owls, fish and much more.

Ornaments on embroidered shirts could differ on a territorial basis. So, today in Ukraine there are about a hundred ornaments with special characteristic differences.

Ornaments of different regions of Ukraine differ

At all times, embroidery was considered not only the traditional clothing of the Ukrainian people, but also a powerful talisman against evil forces. Creating an embroidery with her own hands, the needlewoman gave her a particle of her soul, and one or another embroidery pattern, according to popular beliefs, endowed the shirt with a powerful protective force.

Features of sewing

Before you start sewing an embroidered shirt with your own hands, you need to know that such a process is step-by-step:

1. A pattern is created. Now on sale you can find ready-made kits for sewing embroidery, but if you want to create a truly unique model, the pattern is done independently.

A feature of men's embroidered shirt is not only the cut, but also the tradition of decorating it with a geometric pattern. The collar, bib and sleeve cuffs are traditionally decorated with embroidery.

To sew an embroidered shirt you will need:

A piece of fabric (linen, cotton or poplin);

Pattern;

Sewing tools.

For sewing, a pattern is used, 2 parts of the sleeves and the front of the shirt are cut along it, as well as one whole part of the back. First, the 2 front halves are cut off, leaving a cut at the top, which is then swept and ironed. Then the front and back are folded, sewn together, leaving armholes for the sleeves. Then the details of the sleeves are cut off and sewn to the main workpiece. As you can see, the pattern is quite simple even for a beginner in sewing. After the main sewing work is completed, you can start the most enjoyable process - decorating. If you have the ability and desire to embroider yourself, you will need pattern patterns. You can use a ready-made patterned braid, then you will not need embroidery patterns.

For sewing you will need:

Fabric, ideal if it is natural linen;

Pattern;

Embroidery threads, ideally - floss;

Sewing tools.

First, the pattern is made according to the parameters and the parts are cut out. The next stage of work is usually the embroidery of individual embroidery details. It will require diagrams if this is a traditional cross-stitch ornament.

Embroidery patterns

As already mentioned, the embroidery patterns for women's and men's embroidered shirts differed significantly from each other. When choosing a particular scheme for embroidering a shirt, you should know the meaning of symbols in the ornaments.

The men's embroidered shirt used geometric ornaments with triangles, rhombuses, zigzags, stars, which symbolized strength, courage and protection.

Today patterns are available in huge numbers, but if you need a real masculine pattern, it should not contain soft lines, fancy weaves, only strict geometry! In ancient times, such a pattern was not just a decoration for a shirt, but could also tell about a man's social status and belonging to a certain genus. Any man today will be delighted with a gift in the form of an original and self-embroidered shirt.

As for women's embroidered shirts, the schemes here are less strict, more diverse and colorful. Women's shirts have long been decorated with floral motifs.

But if it is not just an element of the wardrobe that is sewn, but a real amulet, then the choice of the pattern of the pattern should also not be arbitrary. You can safely give preference to patterns with viburnum - a symbol of maiden beauty, crosses and braces - Slavic amulets, symbols of the sun and goodness, grape bunches, as a symbol of adding to the family and joy. Embroidery patterns with roses, which represent love and mercy, are extremely popular at all times, if the pattern consists of numerous repetitions of this amazing flower, then it means endless movement and rebirth to life.

Today, there is a real passion of designers for folklore motives in the world of haute couture.

Content

For many centuries, embroidery on clothes has not lost its relevance. In ancient times, embroidery was used to judge the class of a person, the robes of rich officials and clergy were decorated with gold, ordinary people were decorated with modest ribbons and beads. If earlier a drawing made of threads was also a talisman, today in the foreground of embroidery is the aesthetic perception of clothing and decoration. There are several embroidery techniques, each with its own materials and process.

Why do you need embroidery on clothes

Modern clothing with embroidery belongs to the arts and crafts of needlework. The principle of embroidery is work with a needle or crochet, a machine to create a pattern, a three-dimensional image. Decorate leather, felt, cotton. For work, they use linen, cotton, silk, woolen threads and beads, pearls, stones, sequins, sequins, gold, and sometimes even coins. With the help of a woman's hobby, you can create whole ornaments, logos and inscriptions - indispensable for workwear, custom-made sportswear, national costumes.

Depending on the type of embroidery technology,

the pattern, its density, openwork (cutwork) differ. Ornaments and patterns can have a flat or convex appearance, be slightly contoured, lacy or tightly covering the entire surface of the product. Functions of modern embroidery:

  • improving or emphasizing the aesthetic properties of the material;
  • emphasizing the texture and color of the fabric;
  • can decorate things.

On T-shirts

Embroidery on T-shirts or T-shirts is popular. With its help, they become brighter, more expressive. More often T-shirts with embroidery are decorated with a logo and are used for sports uniforms and workwear. Embroidered inscriptions on clothes emphasize the color and texture of the fabric, and distinguish its wearer due to its improved aesthetic properties. For embroidery, use pockets, upper back, front surface at chest level.

On jeans

Embroidery on jeans is more often used to decorate women's clothing; men do not accept this design. Trousers can be "bloomed" with bright patterns, embroidered with individual flowers, stars, or completely fill, for example, one leg. The pattern adorns jeans, emphasizes the slimness of the legs. Popular places of application are pockets (back and front), front of trousers, bottom edge, belt location.

On shirts

To decorate shirts with embroidery, logos and inscriptions are often used. They are placed on the collar, cuffs, pockets, belt. It is advisable to apply a repeating pattern (ornament) or inscriptions. For the latter, the machine method of decoration is optimal. With the printed pattern, the polo shirt looks more attractive, more solid, it can be used to create a uniform style (football teams, companies with a dress code).

On dresses

Dresses decorated with VMS embroidery look rich. These are national costumes for dance teams or clothing used in everyday life. Bright contrasting threads are used for decoration, the pattern is applied to the collar, sleeves, belt, hem. The choice of pattern depends on the mood and purpose of the thing. The ornament is suitable for everyday use, rich patterns like flowers or forest motifs - for evening events.

To start embroidering, you need to become familiar with the types of stitches used in the process. There are several of them, each differs in the technology of execution and the type of application:

  1. Tambour stitch - the most common, refers to buttonhole, machine or hand. Sometimes called a chain stitch, you need a chain stitch or a needle to complete it. From the starting point, direct the needle to the left, loop the thread under the tip from right to left. Pull the thread through the fabric, direct the needle again to the left to the second point, pass through the loop, lead to the third point, and put the loop under the tip of the needle. Variety of stitch - stitch: repeat the first point, stretch the thread and fasten the loop with a small stitch, make 5 stitches in a circle (you get a "daisy" pattern).
  2. Langet (overedge) - are included in the group of looped stitches, differ in tight placement to each other with the formation of a tight "ribbon". The fabric is visible between each vertical stitch. Process of execution: from the starting point through the second, draw the needle to the third point, which will lie to the right of the starting point. Pass the thread under the tip of the needle from left to right, pull the thread, rise to the fourth point (lies close to the right of the second), bring the needle to the fifth point, placing the thread under the tip of the needle. Sew in rows with tight, straight stitches.
  3. Crossed - sometimes called mossy, Persian, Russian, goat or witch. Refer to the group of crosses: from the starting point, pass the needle through the second point to the third, make a cross with the cross of the threads at the bottom. Repeat on the other side.
  4. Herringbone - Buttonhole stitch for light ornamentation. Other names are feather or rosehip. From the starting point, guide the needle through the second to the third point, pull the thread under the needle tip to the right, bring the needle out to the left, repeat pulling the thread twice.
  5. The basting stitch is a simple linear stitch, sewn at intervals equal to or nearly equal to the length of the stitches. Through the second point, bring the needle to the third without pulling the thread through the fabric, bring the needle through the fourth point to the fifth, pull the thread without pulling the fabric. Try to keep the stitches straight and the same length.
  6. Cross stitch is the second most popular stitch, otherwise called Berlin, patterned or printed. It can be done at any scale and angle. From the starting point from the bottom right, diagonally draw the thread to the second point to the upper left corner, from the upper right point, draw the thread to the lower left. Repeat with even stitches at equal intervals.
  7. Lowercase - similar to machine stitching, used for a clear outline. It belongs to the group of straight stitches, looks like a "back needle" and a Holbein stitch. Work starts from the lower right point with the threads being pulled. Sew a series of small line stitches to form a line.
  8. Stem - contour stitch from a group of straight lines. It features graceful, partially overlapping lines with a straight, raised tip. Pass the needle through the second point on top of the working thread, pull the thread under the needle and finish the stitch.
  9. Satin stitch is the main stitch for embroidery with flowers, otherwise it is called damask. Place stitches close to each other, thread from bottom to top from right to left. Make sure the edges of the motif are straight, pull the threads for a smooth pattern.
  10. Knot (bead, French point, lace knot, rococo) - performed separately or side by side to create a soft outline, embroider the center of the flower. At the starting point, wrap the thread counterclockwise around the needle, holding the needle over the fabric, and repeat the wrap. Gather the wraps together, slide to the tip of the needle, insert that into the fabric close to the starting point.

Materials for embroidery on clothes

First you need to wash the clothes that the craftswoman will decorate. This is necessary to hedge against shrinkage of the fabric, distortion of the pattern and check for shedding. Embroidery on clothing requires a range of materials - from threads and canvas to needles and interlining. If you are embroidering by hand, then you need to prepare a comfortable, well-lit place. For the machine process, you will need a free table, a lamp for lighting. Additional materials: ripper, scissors, copying or tracing paper for transferring the picture.

Threads

For embroidery, special embroidery threads are used. The color of the threads is selected depending on the type of pattern. Before decorating clothes, the material is checked for color fastness: it is moistened, wrapped in a white cloth. If it is stained, you can fix the color of the threads with a special compound - lather it heavily with laundry soap and immerse it in very hot water for 15 minutes. After that, the threads are thoroughly rinsed out with cold water and for 2-3 minutes they are immersed in a solution of vinegar with salt (in a glass of water, a tablespoon of 9% vinegar and salt).

When choosing threads, their thickness is taken into account - the larger it is, the lower the number on the package. Thread types:

  1. Polyester - resistant to discoloration during washing, chemical attack.
  2. Viscose - suitable for decorating clothes made of thin fabrics, reflect light, emphasize the elegance of the pattern.
  3. Cotton - more often used in machine embroidery, but over time, they can lose elasticity, deform, fade, become thinner and get tangled in knots. Ideal for leather and denim clothing.

Needles

Embroidery on clothes should not spoil things during the decoration process, so you need to use needles with a thin small eye (otherwise there will be puncture marks). You can choose special or universal needles of size 70-90. If you are embroidering on stretch fabrics, knitted fabrics or leather, you will need special needles.

Hoop

A wooden hoop is suitable for hand embroidery. These are two circles that tighten the fabric tightly and prevent it from moving during the process. A plastic hoop with an adjusting screw, 15-20 cm in diameter, is suitable for the machine process. Large circles will not work - the fabric will stretch, bubble, wrinkle. When securing clothes in the hoop, make sure that they lie loosely without stretching, otherwise the pattern will be deformed.

Textile

When choosing clothes for embroidery, pay attention to the type of fabric from which they are made. The counting fabric has the same number of threads in the weft and warp, which results in even stitches with equal spacing. The more threads the fabric has, the denser the pattern will be. Smooth materials include velvet, satin, silk and wool. It is more difficult to embroider on them.

For embroidery, choose a fabric that is heavy to hold the threads, but at the same time light for an effective embossed pattern. Before decorating, make a test pattern on a small section of the garment. To prevent the fabric from stretching, iron it from the wrong side before embroidering to prevent skewing and deformation of the pattern on the finished garment.

Overlay canvas

For even and beautiful embroidery on clothes, especially with a cross, a canvas is required. It is a stiff mesh material that makes it easy to create crisp, tight stitches. After ironing the garment, attach the ironed canvas in place of the pattern, choosing a size slightly larger than the pattern itself. Fasten the canvas tightly with pins or a temporary seam, smooth out the "wrinkles" with your hands.

When drawing, try not to sew on the canvas itself, otherwise it will be difficult to remove it. To do this, alternately pull out the canvas threads of the horizontal or vertical rows with your hands or tongs. If you cannot completely remove the canvas, pull out only the outer ones, and cut the rest to the tip. So the crosses will retain their density and evenness, the drawing will not be deformed.

Non-woven

To fix the pattern, adhesive interlining materials on a non-woven base are used. Non-woven fabric is popular. It is a paper-like material made from cellulose fibers with added polyester. It is available in various densities and as a continuous or spot adhesive coating. For embroidery, the material is cut "along the lengthwise" so that it does not stretch.

It is optimal to choose interlining non-woven with a lining so that it does not fluff during washing. After finishing the decoration, glue a piece of non-woven fabric slightly larger than the drawing itself, on the back and iron it well. This will fix the threads, prevent them from creeping after several washes, and maintain the density and necessary rigidity of the clothes. For embroidery on the edges of things (hem, sleeves, pockets, cuffs) use non-woven ribbons.

How to embroider clothes by hand

The choice of technique depends on the color of the fabric, surface (smooth, printed or fleecy). First, you need to transfer the pattern to the fabric. For this, a special pencil is used (it evaporates after 24 hours from the moment of application) or a stencil, you can also use tracing paper, and for thin fabrics - transferring the drawing to light. The safest way to draw a pattern is to attach tracing paper with safety pins and embroider directly along it. After transferring the pattern, hoop the fabric, prepare the threads and needles, and start sewing according to the pattern.

Cross

Traditionally, the easiest to perform is considered to be cross-stitching on clothes. This style is suitable for decorating summer dresses, sundresses, children's or adult jeans, caps. For decoration, choose pockets, sleeves, collars; from patterns, an ornament is optimal. Baste the canvas to the desired area, fasten the hoop, first embroider crosses of the same color, then the rest of the shades. Use heavy, smooth threads, and make sure the stitches are even. After embroidering, remove the canvas by pulling out rows or simply dissolve it in cold water (there are also such types).

Smooth

Satin stitch embroidery on clothes looks no less elegant, but its execution is more difficult, because you need to monitor the clarity of the stitches. To get started, put on a hoop, overlay a pattern with thin paper, sew the outline by hand, or apply a pattern with a chemical pencil, soap. Start with a small section of the pattern, sew tight, even stitches of the same size, placing them as close to each other as possible.

For satin stitch embroidery, a scarf, dress hem, shirt sleeves or jeans trousers are ideal. The Chinese and Japanese surface can be two- or one-sided, straight or oblique. If floss threads are taken for embroidery, then it is better to take cotton, linen or burlap. Cambric, satin, silk are embroidered with silk threads, dense fabrics are embroidered with iris threads. For embroidery, choose the thinnest possible needles, pull tightly on sections of clothing. First, the contour is executed, then the relief of the drawing itself is filled.

Beaded

Beaded embroidery on clothes and shoes looks unusually beautiful. This is difficult for beginners, but there are some secrets to getting the elegance of a drawing. Basic seams for beading:

  1. Monastic - the front part consists of diagonal stitches with beads, vertical rows are obtained from the seamy side.
  2. Linear - one bead for each stitch. The needle is brought out from the inside out between the first and second beads, a bead is strung, the needle is inserted in front of the first bead. With the needle out of the wrong side between the second and third beads, string the second bead and insert the needle between the first and second beads. Repeat to make a tight, straight line. For a sturdier stitch, pull the thread at the end of each row through the stitching.
  3. Stem - fasten the thread, put on the bead, insert the needle into the fabric and bring it out behind the strung bead. Go through the bead again, string the second one, insert the needle into the fabric behind the new bead, bring it out between the last two. The embroidery in this way is very dense.
  4. Arched - used for non-rigid embroidery. For each front stitch, string a few beads, but attach only the one at the intersection of the stitches to the fabric.

A few more useful rules for embroidery with beads for novice craftswomen who want to decorate things.

First steps in embroidery

Decide on your clothes. Practice your skill. For example, a cross on cotton T-shirts, pants, shirts ... They are convenient for the first work experience and not the most expensive.

Select the decoration area. If this shirt is the best place for a personal logo (this is how embroidery can be regarded as a sign of your exclusive work):

  • gate;
  • cuffs;
  • pocket;
  • pockets;
  • belt.

Selecting a drawing. Paying attention to the diagrams, give priority to those where the drawings are shown with a repeating pattern. They are easier to follow, especially at the initial stage of work.

When we improve our skills, we can cross stitch and complex logos and patterns: on the chest, and on the sleeves and on the back of the product. As in these photos:

What to do next - step two

We erase what we decorate. So you will insure yourself against fabric shrinkage and distortion of the pattern, and check whether the embroidered clothes fade or not. Otherwise, it will be very disappointing if your handwork and the hopes associated with it disappear at the very first wash.

We also check the threads for color fastness: wet them, wrap them in a white cloth and see if they are dyed. If so, do not rush to get upset, but treat the threads by soaping them heavily with laundry soap (by winding them, for example, on a clothespin) and immersing them in very hot water for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly in cold water, and soak for a few minutes in a solution of vinegar and salt. Then rinse again with your hands, wrap in a white cloth and iron. If there are streaks again, it is best to boil the threads for five minutes in an acetic-saline solution. After that, they will definitely not shed, but only delight with their colors.

For antilink solution:

  • 1 glass of cold water;
  • 1 tbsp. l. 9-% vinegar;
  • 1 tbsp. l. salt.

After ironing the clothes, attach the canvas to the place of the drawing, logo, after ironing it.

It is better if it is slightly larger than the figure in the diagram.

You need to fasten the canvas tightly, smoothing out wrinkles with your hands, pins or a whipstitch. So she will not crawl.

In order for the embroidery on clothes to be neat, there should be no noticeable punctures around the pattern, so the needle should be with a small eye. And one more tip: try not to pierce the threads of the canvas itself, while embroidering with a cross in squares, otherwise it will be difficult to remove it. If you do everything correctly, it is easy to remove the canvas threads with your hands by alternately (!) Pulling out its horizontal and vertical rows.

The schemes we have proposed in the photo (which are embroidered with a cross) can be perfect for the first experience of decorating clothes on their own for adults and children, or become your personal logo.

Having “stuffed” your hand, you will be able to use more complex patterns, embroidery patterns in clothes, giving it a special chic with your own hands.

The basics of satin stitch embroidery

If you prefer satin stitch embroidery on clothes, you do not need to use canvas.

Experienced embroiderers shared with us their tips for applying future designs to fabric:

  • having hoisted the fabric, overlay the pattern printed on thin paper, and sew the outline by hand or on a typewriter, if you own sewing with a lowered conveyor;
  • draw a drawing with a "chemical" pencil;
  • you can paint with a thin piece of dry soap, but not colored.

Choose any option, and do not forget to divide the design into sections, it will be easier to embroider both a simple logo and a complex pattern.

Such decoration of clothing as embroidery has long denoted who its owner is. The noble and the rich chose clothes embroidered with gold and precious stones. And ordinary people used more ribbons, lace and beads. In the 21st century, there is no such need and embroidery on clothes is just an adornment. With its help, you can create unique patterns and patterns. Today we will tell you what types of embroidery on clothes exist, as well as how to reproduce them yourself.

What is embroidery for?

This art form is truly a feminine craft. And since many women love to create something with their own hands, why not combine business with pleasure? Decorating clothes, making them unique and one of a kind, a woman gets extraordinary pleasure, and also replenishes her energy of femininity.

There are a lot of types of embroidery. This is embroidery with beads, cross stitch, satin stitch, and even ribbons. There are even more variations in performance and ornaments. Let's try to figure out what's what.

Embroidery on T-shirts

The T-shirt has long ceased to be a sports wardrobe item and is used in full in everyday wear, combining convenience, simplicity and style. Today, there are many decoration options for this type of clothing. And one of them is embroidery. The most common option is logo embroidery. On clothes, it denotes belonging to a certain company, according to which one can also estimate the approximate value and class of a given thing.

However, in addition to the logo, T-shirts are decorated with various types of embroidery. For example, one of the most fashionable designs today is flower embroidery.

They are most often located on a small chest pocket or at the top of the back. Such embroidery makes an ordinary plain T-shirt much more interesting and advantageous.

Jeans

If embroidery on T-shirts can be both male and female, then embroidery on jeans is still more inherent in the fair sex. Interestingly, even jeans familiar to everyone can be easily turned into a festive wardrobe item. For example, by making embroidery with beads or sequins, you will get a bright and stylish look. Most often, the embroidery on jeans is located on the back pockets, on the sides of the legs, in front of the thigh or around the circumference of the thighs.

Laconic and delicate embroideries along the legs visually stretch the silhouette, making it slimmer.

Embroidery on the shirt

Shirts are another garment suitable for embroidery. The patterns are usually located on the chest pocket, on the back or on the sleeves. Also popular is a small ornament all over the shirt. It can be made with beads, satin stitch or cross.

On a simple plain shirt, embroidery will look very appropriate. She will revive the image and make it brighter.

Dresses

What could be more feminine than skirts and dresses? This wardrobe item is preferred by a large number of women. The dress embroidered with beads and bugles looks expensive and solemn and is suitable for the evening. And satin stitch embroidery will help to make an everyday thing more elegant.

Where to begin?

If you are going to do embroidery on clothes with your own hands, you will need a small set of a needlewoman and work ideas. First you need to decide on the pattern, material and wardrobe item on which you plan to work. We advise you to take a thing for the first time that you will not feel sorry for if something suddenly does not work out. This could be, for example, a simple T-shirt.

  • desk lamp;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • canvas;
  • a set of needles;
  • carbon paper to transfer the image to the fabric;
  • ripper;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • hoop.

Needles

To create embroidery with threads, you need to remember that the needle should not be too thick, from a thick needle there is a possibility of damage to clothes. It is best to choose a medium sized needle with a narrow eye. A 70-90 needle size is ideal. It should be noted that this size will work for most fabrics, however, for thicker fabrics, the needles must be special.

Threads

When choosing threads for embroidery, it is worth considering their thickness, color and ability to shed.

First you need to choose the pattern that you are going to reproduce on the fabric. Based on this, choose all the colors you need. Next, select the thread material. There are three main types:

  • Polyester. This type of thread does not fade during washing and does not deform during ironing and other influences.
  • Viscose. Suitable for decorating delicate materials, adds elegance due to a slight shine.
  • Cotton. Most often, this type of thread is chosen for use on a sewing machine. They are easy to use and give the desired effect. However, they can deform and fade slightly when washed.

Choosing a hoop

For embroidery on clothes, you cannot do without special hoops. The best choice would be a wooden hoop. Their essence is to tightly fix the fabric, preventing it from shifting. For work on the sewing machine, you can choose a plastic hoop with a diameter of 20 cm. Fix the fabric in the hoop so that there is no obvious tension. Otherwise, removing them will result in a stretched and fuzzy pattern.

What is the canvas for?

For cross stitching on clothes, you need a canvas. It will help to make the drawing even and neat. This thick mesh-like fabric needs to be attached to the place of the future embroidery. Its size is selected based on the size of the drawing itself, plus a few centimeters on each side. Please note that you do not need to sew the canvas to the fabric as this can damage the fabric. It is best to carefully secure it with a couple of stitches along the edges or with pins, after which you need to flatten the canvas.

After embroidering, the canvas should be removed. To do this, pull out the threads alternately from the vertical and horizontal sides. If the canvas does not lend itself to stretching, just cut it with scissors at the root of the resulting embroidery.

Fixing the embroidery

In order for the work not to be spoiled during wearing and washing, you need to fix it well. To do this, you can use a special interlining paper with interlining. This material is easy to use and guarantees the preservation of the embroidery.

After you finish embroidering, cut to the correct size of release paper. It should completely overlap the size of the embroidery and extend slightly outside of it. Next, put the cut piece on the seamy side and iron it well with an iron. This technique will fix the knots of the threads and prevent them from deforming later.

Cross-stitch

The most popular, and at the same time simple, method is cross stitch. On clothes, this technique looks stylish and concise. Most suitable for decorating light items such as summer dresses, cotton shirts, T-shirts and skirts.

Cross stitch looks great on cuffs, collars or pockets. In order to make a thing using this decoration technique, attach the canvas in the right place. Place and secure the hoop on it. Then, following the pattern, first embroider with one thread color, then with another, and so on, until you get the desired pattern. Maintain sufficient density when sewing the stitches. When finished embroidering, remove the canvas as described earlier.

How to make satin stitch embroidery

A slightly more difficult option would be satin stitch embroidery on clothes. In order to complete it, you need to fix the hoop, transfer the pattern and outline the outline of the future embroidery with stitches or soap. Next, having selected the smallest section of the pattern, make several stitches in a dense row. Then consistently fill the entire contour. The simplest to perform are floss threads. They are suitable for creating a pattern on cotton fabric. For example, for embroidery on children's clothing.

Silk threads are more suitable for dense and heavy materials.

The basic rule is that you need to choose very thin needles for work and maintain a high density of stitches to each other.

Beads

Bead embroidery looks unusually luxurious and expensive on clothes. This option is more suitable for some kind of evening dresses, blouses or skirts. Although in small quantities, beads are appropriate for everyday wear. To do the work with beads for a beginner is sometimes not an easy task. But there are some secrets that will help a novice craftswoman.

1. Using beads of the same size. If you follow this rule to begin with, work will come out faster and easier.

2. Tilt. Keep the slant of the beads the same for each piece.

3. Embroidery hoop. When working with beads, like nowhere else, it is important to pull the material very tightly over the hoop so that the picture is even.

4. The length of the thread. It should be 4-5 times longer than the width of the image itself.

5. Thread. To avoid tangling the thread, lubricate it with wax. To do this, press the thread into the wax and pull it out from the other end. This will lubricate the thread with the wax. All unnecessary things need to be removed.

6. The color of the thread should be the same as the fabric of the item.

7. For sewing beads, the optimal needle size is 10 or 12.

The most popular cross stitch method is stalk:

  • fasten the thread to the fabric and string on beads;
  • insert the needle into the material and bring it out from behind the beads;
  • go through the bead again and put on the second one;
  • insert the needle into the material behind the second bead and bring it out between the last.

Embroidery ribbons

Let's talk about the latest decoration technique on clothes - ribbon embroidery. And although such work looks well, very gentle and noble, few people use it to the fullest. To create ribbon embroidery, select ribbons no more than 4 mm wide and without hard edges. It is best for a beginner to work with thin satin ribbons. You can use almost any fabric for work, but regular linen will do for a start.

Most often, floral arrangements are made from ribbons. This embroidery can be used to decorate a silk top or linen skirt. The choice is limitless, depending on your imagination.

Ribbon embroidery is not difficult at all. To do this, take a tape 50 cm long. Cut one corner from one edge and thread the tape into the needle. Then stretch the needle to the edge and pierce the canvas 2-3 cm from the edge. You will have a loop that can be tightened to create a knot. That's it, then you can get to work.

In fact, the ribbon embroidery itself is a figment of imagination and there are no rules. Once you've secured the ribbon to the fabric, simply work from stitch to stitch to create patterns or flowers.

Today we will talk about how to embroider a collar - but the collar is ready-made, for example, the collar of a shirt or blouse that you want to decorate with embroidery.

On the one hand, it is much easier for a beginner to sew, as you do not have to cut out a collar, which requires a lot of care and a well-padded hand. But on the other hand, such embroidery on a finished collar will require no less diligence from you, since you need to achieve a high-quality result not only from the front side of the embroidery, but also from the wrong side, which can easily look out while wearing a thing.

At the end of the workshop, you will find small and uncomplicated designs that can be used to embroider collars.

To work you will need:

  • Shirt or blouse with matching collar
  • Embroidery design
  • Mouline
  • Sharp needle
  • Fabric marker
  • Small hoop

Step 1

If you can draw the design by hand on the collar, it will make things easier for you, but since we need two identical but mirrored designs, you may not be so easy to deal with this. In this case, print the drawing on a printer.

Step 2

Wrap your collar - it won't be easy and most likely you won't get the perfect tension, but try to get it as high as possible.

Step 3

Your task is to embroider the pattern with a simple double-sided satin stitch and any desired stitches, so that the wrong side looks dignified. It may not be as perfect as the front side, but you should be happy with it so that, without a twinge of conscience, show it to everyone who wants to look.

To do this, avoid knots and broaches on the wrong side. All thread bartacks should be hidden under subsequent stitches. If you are doing, each of them should be secured separately, there should be no broaches between them.

Step 4

For plain ironing, the stitches should be tight enough, but do not pull the thread too tight to avoid distorting the fabric.

Step 5

Repeat the same drawing, but in a mirror image on the second half of the collar.

If you are ready to try your hand, choose any design from the presented ones - they are all quite simple to perform!
