Is it possible to machine wash natural fur? How to wash a fur collar - we take care of our fur! We wash the fur on a non-removable collar

Nowadays, fur clothing is still enjoying the same success as it was many years ago. It is impossible to pass by chic fur products, which, like a mystical magnet, attract the admiring glances of others. Anyone who has ever found himself in the arms of such luxury understands what is at stake. And for those who have not yet tried to dress in luxurious fur clothes, it is not at all difficult to imagine all the charm. It is enough to look closely at those passing by: how brightly it stands out fur coat or even one collar on a jacket among the crowd. But, fur clothes, like any other, can get dirty over time and lose their gloss and beautiful appearance... Do not forget that fur, in contrast to the fabric products we are used to, also requires special measures for cleaning and putting in proper form, so as not to aggravate the situation even more.

Let's make a reservation right away that if you have fur clothes and for some reason they got dirty or lost their beauty and luster over time, then the best option is dry cleaning. Since dry cleaning uses products that are safe for the product. But, on the other hand, no one will take the whole jacket or fur coat to dry cleaning because of a speck on the collar, and the dry cleaning services themselves are by no means that cheap. So, in most cases, the thing can be cleaned at home, observing the appropriate rules for washing.

First, you need to decide on the material of the product, what kind of fur is the clothes made of natural or artificial? To do this, the product must be carefully considered: artificial fur, as a rule, is a pile fixed on a fabric or leatherette base. Natural fur has a base made of genuine leather.

You should be especially careful with natural fur, since the leather base on which the villi are held naturally possesses a certain set of fats and special substances that protect the skin from loosening and destruction of the structure, and the fur from rashes. Eventually, natural fur v washing machine washing is strictly prohibited, as under the influence of chemically active substances contained in washing powders, all fats will be removed from the skin, and it will simply deteriorate - it will lose elasticity and other mechanical properties, and at the same time a beautiful appearance. To avoid such troubles, you need to know how to properly wash natural fur.

It is best to use a dry wash for this, without any water at all. You will need:

  • Take a pack of regular starch;
  • Sprinkle the place of pollution with powder, if this is the whole product, then you need to sprinkle the whole thing, if it is some local area, then only it.
  • After that, gently rub the fur, as with hand washing, but without water (all the time of these manipulations should not exceed ten minutes);
  • Shake off the starch powder and brush out any stuck-on residues with a natural bristle brush.

This method can be used to wash both dark and wash white fur... You can also use special aerosols, which are not difficult to prepare at home. Consider several so-called grandma's recipes, which have been known to mankind for caring for natural fur for more than a dozen years:

  1. For the first solution you will need ammonia, water (you can from the tap) and peroxide. All this is mixed in proportions: a glass of water, a teaspoon of peroxide, a couple of drops of alcohol. The entire solution is applied to the fur using a spray bottle.
  2. Another solution is prepared from alcohol, water and salt, which are mixed in a 1: 50: 3 ratio and applied to clothing. It is as effective as cleaning gasoline.
  3. A very old method is cleaning with a solution of alcohol, vinegar and water mixed in equal parts. Such a solution is applied with a regular sponge and removed with a cloth that absorbs moisture perfectly.

How to wash faux fur?

Faux fur is now as popular as natural fur. The fact is that in developed countries there has long been a struggle for the rights and protection of our smaller brothers, who, as you know, constantly suffer for the sake of the fur industry. That is why eminent Western brands create very beautiful, and sometimes even chic artificial substitutes for natural fur, which not only look great, but may not even differ from the original.

In addition, it should immediately be noted that if your product is made of faux fur there is a pattern, then it is better to immediately refuse standard washing with water. For the rest, follow these rules:

  1. Despite the fact that the faux fur can be machine washed on delicate regime, hand wash is much preferable. Since with it the fur will not go astray and the thing will not lose its external charm.
  2. Use a large container for clothing.
  3. All laundry chemicals should only provide gentle or delicate care.
  4. Be sure to use warm water.
  5. Try not to rub the fur so that the surface does not stick together and fall off.

For hand wash, fill the selected container with water and dilute a little detergent... The thing just needs to be soaked for a certain period of time. This very gap should be chosen based on the degree of pollution and material. During washing, the product is not three, but only by hand, first against the fur, and then in the direction of the pile.
Before washing the fur at home, it should be cleaned from dust for more in a simple way- knock out from the inside out. In order not to harm the whole thing, it is better to first check any cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area. To do this, just apply a little detergent and wait a couple of minutes. After that, you need to try with your hands - if the fur is somehow deformed in that place. If the structure does not change in any way under the influence of the detergent, you can safely wash it.

If washing in a typewriter cannot be avoided, then in order to preserve the appearance and properties of the product, several rules should be observed:

  • Before washing the faux fur in washing machine, it is better to roll the thing with fur inside and wrap it in a fabric bag or at least an old pillowcase;
  • Detergents for washing wool and silk do an excellent job with this task, and when rinsing, you need to use antistatic additives;
  • You need to wash only in a delicate mode without spinning.

Remember one thing important rule: the fur perfectly absorbs moisture, so if a dry coat fits into the drum of the washing machine, this does not mean that the drum will withstand its weight when wet.

Drying a fur garment after washing

After the fur product has been washed, it must be thoroughly dried, since the moisture retained between the villi can become a source of unpleasant odor and complete failure of clothes. But drying should also be moderate and natural. Drying a fur garment on a radiator or fireplace should never be allowed. The best option natural drying is always room temperature... If the dimensions and material allow, then you can get wet with a towel, but do not twist. It is also strictly forbidden to use an iron or a hair dryer as accelerators or drying, with these devices you can irrevocably ruin your favorite thing.

Features of washing a jacket with fur

Very often on clothes, fur acts as a covering or material of its individual elements.- hood, cuffs or collar. This combination is especially common in down jackets.

All jackets and down jackets with such collars should be conditionally divided into several varieties: made of genuine leather or artificial, removable or sewn on.

Of course, it is simply impossible to wash the fur element together with the entire down jacket in the washing machine. After the mode for the down jacket, nothing will remain from the fur, and the down jacket itself may lose its appearance from washing. Therefore, initially detach the fur from the down jacket: if the collar is removable, just unfasten it, if not, you need to either carefully unplug it, or try to clean it without getting the jacket wet.

Before washing the fur of the collar, take a close look at the material from which it is made. Depending on what material it is from, the washing method will also depend. We clean natural fur without soaking in water, as described above.

Artificial can be washed in soap solution after soaking it for half an hour. At the same time, do not forget that in no case should it be rubbed. But you need to rinse very thoroughly.

How to wash a hat with fur?

A fur hat, like other items of clothing with fur, can also lose its appearance. To put it in order, it is not at all necessary to grab onto the laundry and other radical methods... It is possible that pollution can be dealt with in a more gentle way. To do this, you need to wipe the fur with vinegar in the direction of the pile. This procedure gives the product a pleasant shine and charm, but it should not be abused either. Too frequent vinegar treatments can end in disastrous results, the fur will become rough and tough.

If washing is unavoidable, then wash fur hat need separately. The fur is stripped from the lining, while it is necessary to first outline how the lining was attached to the hat. If the wash did not work desired effect, then the lining can be replaced with a new one by cutting it out according to the existing pattern. Fur, depending on whether it is natural or not, is cleaned by any of the above methods.

What is the best way to wash your fur?

Whether it will be correct to wash the fur, or it is better to use the services of a specialized organization, depends only on the specific situation. It is absolutely clear that there is no point in spending money on dry cleaning if the previous appearance is able to return the most ordinary vinegar, which is in the kitchen, almost in every home. But, the situation is completely different when it comes to an expensive fur coat, which can simply go to the trash because of your wrong actions. The same can be said with certainty about all the greasy spots left on the fur. Since on your own you are unlikely to be able to effectively remove grease from the fleecy surface. Always remember that the best pledge long service of your favorite thing will constant care rather than permanent cleaning. Therefore, you need to try to refrain from getting into the rain and not wet fur products in bad weather.

Any fur product sooner or later gets dirty. If this happened "early", then, most likely, the fur was not properly looked after, stored in inappropriate conditions. As a result, it can lose its shine, the underpads become clogged with dust and dirt, and clothes will appear bad smell... It will no longer be possible to remove all this with ordinary cleaning. Heavy artillery is used - dry cleaning. But how to wash natural fur if the services of specialists are not available for one reason or another?

Natural fur is not allowed to be washed! More precisely, it is not recommended to soak them in water, as this can lead to the most undesirable consequences: shrinks, crawls out, fades, discolored, glued areas will crumble. How to be? You can take a risk, but you can wash with gentle methods - the so-called "dry" wash. They are partially similar to how to wash a natural fur coat, but there are also differences, for example, when you need to wash little thing collar type.

Dry wash

Shake the fur well. Knock out all dust and small dirt from it. Then vacuum by placing the vacuum cleaner on the vacuum cleaner attachment. upholstered furniture... Perhaps this will already be enough to clean the fur product. No? Then we proceed to the next step.

You can wash your fur at home using clean warm water and a suede brush. Moisten the brush and run over the garment in the direction of the pile. You do not need to wet it too much. After that, comb the product without immersing the comb too much so as not to rip out the underpads. Next, the fur thing must be allowed to dry, and combed again. Usually, ordinary pollution dust can be easily removed in this way, and further washing is no longer required.

By the way, if fresh snow has fallen outside, you can use it instead of water. This will allow the fur to absorb less moisture and reduce the risk of deformation.

Traditional methods

In order not to spoil fur thing, the people came up with a replacement for water. Instead, you can wash natural fur in rye or oat flour, potato starch, wheat bran, sawdust and many other "detergents". Each of these methods has its own characteristics:

  • Rye or oat flour poured into a bowl, basin, natural fur is lowered there and rolled abundantly, "washing". After that, you need to shake out the remaining flour, vacuum it if necessary, and then hang it out in a well-ventilated place not in the sun. At the end, comb.
  • Sprinkle the fur with potato starch. Mix a little shampoo in warm water (you can take shampoo for animals), collect the resulting solution in a spray bottle and spray it over the starch so that it takes on a pasty appearance. The "dough" is smeared and left to dry. Then remove everything with a brush, comb and leave to dry.
  • If you are thinking about how to wash your white fur, you can do it using 5 percent hydrogen peroxide. It will remove yellowness and restore shine. Soak a cotton swab in peroxide and walk in the direction of the pile, if the pile is short, then against. You can also wrap cotton wool around the teeth of the comb, soak it in peroxide and walk over the product.
  • Wheat bran is mixed with a small amount of gasoline and placed in a bowl, basin. The fur is washed by weight: in one hand the item to be washed, with the other you type "detergent" and rub gently into the pile. Next, comb and hang in a ventilated place.
  • Hardwood sawdust. They are treated in the same way as with wheat bran. Only you need to choose clean sawdust, and by no means coniferous trees.
  • Hot sand. The sand is heated in the oven. Natural fur is laid out on a flat surface, sand is poured on top and rubbed over the product. If you have not washed, then the dirty sand is replaced by clean, the procedure is repeated.

How to wash in water

If the described methods do not help to clean the clothes, and you cannot get into the dry-cleaner, then you can take a risk and wash it in water. It should be understood that the answer to the question "can the fur be washed?" unambiguous - "no". Therefore, any independent attempts are big risk... You can, of course, see a lot of phrases on the Internet, "I washed (a), and everything is fine", but this is not a guarantee that you will have the same. Natural fur can deform, stretch, shrink, in other words - deteriorate or lose its initial appearance... If you are ready to take the risk, then consider the most gentle way of how to wash natural fur.

First, check that your fur garment can withstand washing. To do this, prepare a solution of 50 ml of water, 1 drop of shampoo and 2 drops of ammonia. Apply it to the flesh in an inconspicuous area, pull the fur in different sides, and if deformation of the flesh is not observed, it does not tear, then perhaps your clothes will undergo washing, at least they will not come apart.

Hand wash... Of course, you can machine wash your fur, but only to make sure how badly it will deteriorate. Mechanical wash is categorically contraindicated. It is not even considered.

  1. Start washing in water only after dry cleaning has already been completed, i.e. dust and fine dirt are knocked out. Otherwise, the water will only hammer them into the pods even more, cementing them, so to speak.
  2. Take a detergent special for fur. If not, then a regular shampoo or animal wash will do.
  3. The water temperature is up to 40 degrees. There should be enough of it so that the fur product is completely submerged.
  4. Soak natural fur for 15-20 minutes. You do not need to rub, crumple, squeeze it, otherwise you will spoil the pile. If there is old stains dirt, you can rub them with a soft brush.
  5. Drain soapy water, dial clean. Rinse thoroughly several times. Wash out all soapy water.
  6. Do not twist. It is enough to iron it with your palm in the direction of the pile, expelling the water. Next, hold it by weight so that the liquid is glass.
  7. If you wash a large fur product, for example, a fur coat, then it will take a long time to keep it until it drains. Place a chair with a back in the bathroom and hang on it for at least 6 hours.
  8. A small piece of fur, such as a collar, can be wrapped in terry towel to absorb excess moisture.
  9. The dried fur is combed with a wooden comb, as far as possible. Then it is hung out to dry in a ventilated place. Not under a heater, not under the sun.
  10. As it dries, it is combed again.

On this, the question of how to wash natural fur can be considered resolved. If the fur has remained unchanged, then you are very lucky. Well, if it has deteriorated, then do not be sad, there are many decisions on what to do with it: tickle it, donate it (if you sit down), use it under the rug.

Unfortunately, regular washing is contraindicated for almost all fur products.... That's why expensive fur coats(about) and the coat is preferable to dry-clean. However, there are many tips and tricks on how to wash fur at home.

Natural fur coats and short fur coats should not be completely soaked in water. For such products, it is advisable to use "dry wash", or rather cleaning. As for fur collars and cuffs, if possible, they are unfastened or steamed before washing.

Hare and rabbit fur, for example, cleaned with rye or oatmeal

To do this, fur or a fur product is placed in a large (dry) basin and “washed” in flour by hand. After cleaning, thoroughly shake the flour out of the fur and ventilate well.

Effective folk remedy for cleaning natural fur - sawdust from hardwood. Coniferous trees contain resin, therefore, coniferous sawdust is not used. For "washing" clean sawdust is chosen, moistened with gasoline ( good quality) and placed in an enamel basin. The fur is carefully (so as not to tear) manually processed over the pelvis. Heavily contaminated and problem areas can be reprocessed. After cleaning, the fur is well crushed and combed (except for astrakhan fur) in order to finally get rid of sawdust. Similarly, cleanse with wheat bran.

Another one has long been known folk method: how to wash fur at home using potato starch. The fur is laid out in a large basin or bathtub and covered generously with starch. Then add to baby shampoo warm water and using a spray bottle spray the solution over the starch until a doughy mass is obtained. Then evenly distribute the "dough" over the fur and leave to dry completely. Brush, dry and then comb. To remove the yellowness of the white fur, you need to take a 5% hydrogen peroxide solution and carefully moisten the yellowed spots or villi several times.

For cleaning greasy stains use a solution prepared from ammonia(1 tsp) and diluted in 0.5 liters of water table salt(3 tbsp. L.). Wipe contaminated areas with a cotton swab or foam rubber soaked in solution. Fluffy fur are processed in the direction of the pile, short ones - against the pile.

Mole, otter, nutria and beaver furs are cleaned with hot sand

For this fur spread out using a flat surface and sprinkle with clean, well-heated sand. The fur is carefully rubbed with their hands, if necessary, the dirty sand is replaced with a new one.

Arctic fox, fox and silver fox fur can also be cleaned at home

In order not to spoil and properly clean such fur, you can use a comb with dull, sparse teeth. Wrap thin layers of cotton wool soaked in a detergent or alcohol solution on the teeth of the comb and comb the fur in the direction of the pile until the dirt completely disappears.

Also, be extremely careful when cleaning faux fur.

For greasy stains, you can use starch diluted in gasoline. As for the karakul, such cleaning is unacceptable. But the artificial astrakhan fur is quite possible to wash with a detergent for woolen and synthetic materials.

Another way to freshen and clean fur is to use detergents.(respectively for wool, silk, synthetics). Detergent (2 tablespoons) is diluted in a liter of warm water and shaken until a copious foam is formed. A stiff brush is moistened in foam and gently rubbed the fur over the pile several times. Dry the fur in a ventilated area, far from direct sources of heat. After complete drying, the fur is combed with a comb with rare blunt teeth.
