DIY Christmas masks for children - templates. Templates for New Year's carnival masks

This is a great opportunity to diversify the New Year's Eve, making it more fun and mysterious. After all, if you celebrate a holiday in a big company, people may not immediately guess who is hiding under the mask. And especially delighted will be children who love to try on different images.

Paper masks for children and adults

If you are reading us a few hours before the New Year, then you will still have time to make the simplest New Year's paper mask. Below are piglet templates (after all, 2019 is the year of the Pig), which you can draw on an A3 or A4 sheet, cut it out, make holes for the eyes and insert an elastic band. If you have a printer, it's even easier. Print ready-made masks and get ready for the New Year. By the way, a child can be entrusted with a responsible matter, giving him the opportunity to independently paint the mask to his liking.








Tips for making paper masks:

  1. The paper mask will tear quickly, so it's best to stick the template on cardboard.
  2. If there is no cardboard, you can glue several sheets of paper together.
  3. For gluing, use only PVA glue (not "Moment"), because the mask will come into contact with the child's face, and the baby may inhale harmful fumes.
  4. To fix the New Year's mask on the head, it is advisable to use elastic bands, not ropes.
  5. The places where the elastic is attached to the mask should be sealed with hot glue or tape.

You can also make New Year's masks on sticks, as in the photo. Large wooden skewers are suitable for this. Make these masks for the whole family: the kids will be delighted when the parents start imitating pigs. You can even act out a small performance based on the fairy tale "Three Little Pigs" or any other fantasy play. A simple piggy headband will also help create a more fun atmosphere for the 2019 meeting.

Piglet mask from improvised materials

If you have the time and desire to make a high-quality original mask, then you will need materials that you usually throw away as useless: a five-liter plastic bottle or a juice box. You also need the following to work:

  • old newspapers;
  • White paper;
  • stapler;
  • scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • paste;
  • putty on wood;
  • acrylic paint: white, pink, black, green, red.

To begin with, the recipe for making flour paste, which we need to work.

  1. Sift a glass of flour into a bowl.
  2. Slowly pour in a glass of warm water, stirring constantly.
  3. Add ½ tsp. salt, stir.
  4. Add 2 more cups of warm water and stir.
  5. We put on a slow fire for 10 minutes. All this time, do not stop stirring.
  6. We cool. Clayster is ready!

Store flour paste in the refrigerator for no more than 3 days.

Now let's start making a New Year's mask for the new year 2019 with our own hands.

  1. We cut off a funnel from the bottle and give it the shape of a mask, cutting off one side right up to the cork.
  2. We cut out the ears from the juice box and make cuts at their base to get a more rounded shape.
  3. Cut out holes for the eyes.
  4. We fix the ears on the future mask with a stapler. It turns out a blank that already resembles a pig.

  1. We tear the newspapers into small pieces (about 5-6 cm).
  2. We glue the blank with newspapers on both sides with the help of a paste.
  3. You should also go to the edges of the plastic, bending pieces of newspapers so that the mask does not have sharp edges.
  4. The final layer will be white, so we tear the paper and glue the workpiece with it.
  5. We are waiting for it to dry. This may take up to 12 hours.

  1. We prime the mask on both sides with putty on wood. We are waiting for drying 30 minutes.
  2. On the sides of the almost finished mask we make punctures for the future gum.
  3. We cover the workpiece with white acrylic paint.
  4. When the paint dries, you can draw the pig's eyes, piglet, ears.
  5. If desired, you can also stick something like a hairstyle using a piece of fur.

It remains only to attach the elastic bands, and the New Year's mask for 2019 is ready! Children will love wearing it. The product turns out to be absolutely safe to wear on the face, because we cooked the paste ourselves from natural products, and the acrylic paint dries quickly and does not smell.

Felt carnival masks have a number of advantages over paper or plastic ones:

This mask takes less than an hour to make.

What we need for a felt piglet mask:

  • a piece of light pink felt in A4 or A3 format;
  • a piece of dark pink felt A5 or A6;
  • a small piece of black felt: literally the size of a finger;
  • scissors;
  • pink threads;
  • needle;
  • pink ribbon or elastic band;
  • hot glue.

Step 1. Let's draw a pattern on paper.

Step 2. You can take our measurements (see photo) or measure the width of the face of the person who will wear the mask. A very important measure is the distance between the eyes.

Step 3. Cut out the pattern and transfer it to the felt.

Step 4. We need 1 pair of blanks for the mask itself, 2 pairs of heart-ears and 1 pair of patch circles.

Step 5. We sew 2 main blanks together, starting with sheathing the eye. Do not forget to insert a ribbon or elastic band so that it is between two pieces of felt.

Step 6. We sew 2 pieces of patch. With hot glue (the photo shows that Moment glue was used, but it has a too pronounced smell), we glue the nostrils cut out of black felt onto it.

Step 7. We sew both pairs of ears. Glue the piglet and ears to the workpiece.

The felt mask is ready! The child will wear it with pleasure not only for the New Year, but also at other times. If desired, you can add decorative elements: make a bow out of felt, draw eyebrows, eyelashes, etc.

If you can draw beautifully, you can experiment with face painting and make a live mask. Try to depict a pig, Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, Fairy and other New Year's or just your favorite characters on the child's face.

Be sure to follow the rules for working with face painting:

  1. First you need to draw what you want on paper with ordinary paints in order to practice.
  2. Large areas are painted with a sponge (sponge) by not smearing, but by point movements (like applying powder).
  3. Light colors are applied first. The dark ones are at the end.
  4. Before each next layer, you need to wait for the previous one to dry.
  5. Face painting is removed with makeup remover and cotton pads. Then the face is washed with warm water.

If you are making a face painting mask for a child, explain to him that you can’t touch your face with your hands, otherwise everything will be smeared. For this reason, it is not recommended to do such a “make-up” for children under 5 years old.



Adults can also paint masks using face painting paints. They can be more graceful, elegant, a la carnival.

Carnival mask for the New Year from foamiran

The hostess of 2019 will be the Yellow Earth Pig, so you can please her with an outfit and jewelry of the corresponding color. A golden-colored carnival mask, which we will make from foamiran, is perfect for a yellow or brown dress.

Foamiran (from the English foam - foam) is a foamed pliable material that is ideal for home crafts. It will not be difficult to make a mask out of it, but it will turn out to be very beautiful and comfortable to wear.

For work you will need:

  • paper and pencil for patterns;
  • a sheet of foamiran A4 format (you can take foamirn with glitter, i.e. with sparkles);
  • brocade ribbon;
  • toothpick;
  • scissors;
  • hot glue;
  • decorative elements (rhinestones, feathers, brooches).

You can make a carnival New Year's mask in just 10 minutes.

Draw a pattern on paper and cut it out.

With a toothpick we transfer the pattern to the wrong side of the foamiran.

Cut out the mask and make slits for the eyes.

Attach the tape with hot glue.

We emphasize the cuts of the eyes with rhinestones.

We decorate the mask with feathers and other decorative elements. Metal jewelry is best planted on polymer glue.

If you are preparing for a masquerade

Of course, they all differ from each other: for example, Christmas or New Year's masks can symbolize fairy-tale heroes, Nativity scene participants, themed winter characters, and Halloween carnival masks should already reflect the spirit of this holiday and embody its popular images. If we talk about the Venetian holiday, then there is generally a whole separate art, etc. That is, if you wish, you can learn how to create beautiful and frightening, small and large, simple and complex masks: from papier-mâché, cardboard, fabric, lace or knitted and any others.

Before you make a carnival mask with your own hands, you need to decide on your image and costume. Then she will simply continue and supplement it. If you want to limit yourself to only this accessory, you will have to make more efforts, because in this case it becomes the central and main detail of your image that defines it.

Minimum effort for a spectacular look

The easiest way is to make a simple mask from improvised materials: paper, lace, felt, etc. Such a do-it-yourself carnival mask can be suitable for both children and adults. By the way, they are not only female, but also male.

Let us dwell in more detail on paper and fabric masks for children. If a child cannot decide on an image for a New Year's party in any way, choosing between a tiger, an owlet and a dragon, and you do not know how and what kind of New Year's mask he should make, you can fulfill all his desires at once using an absolutely simple manufacturing technology.

  1. You need to print (using a color printer) those blanks that you like. It can be a drawing-template of the head of any animal, fairy-tale character or hero.
  2. Next, this pattern must be cut out and glued onto cardboard (thick paper).
  3. The New Year's mask can be kept on an elastic band. To attach it, make small cuts on both sides. Then you will need to wrap these cuts with an elastic band (calculate its length so that you can easily put on the mask without tearing it, but also so that it does not constantly fall off your face). You can fix the elastic band with tape or a stapler. If you want, glue a thin stick instead of an elastic band, for which you can hold the product with your hand.
  4. Such a New Year's mask with your own hands will become even more attractive if you decorate it with sparkles, tinsel or other holiday paraphernalia.

As easy as making a Christmas mask for a child, it can also be made for an adult party.

  • As a blank, you will need to draw or also print a regular outline (they can be both female and male). Draw two blanks at once - from ordinary paper or cardboard and from very dense.

  • Then cut out the blanks. Don't forget the eye holes.

  • When everything is ready, glue both blanks.

  • Now it's time for the decorations. Colored feathers will look very impressive. Try thickly pasting them over the product, and attach sequins and rhinestones around the eye slits.

Black lace masks are very beautiful and mysterious. The technology of their manufacture is similar to the previous ones.



  1. Prepare a regular template (draw or print). Cut it out of cardboard.
  2. Take a satin fabric and glue the blank to it. After the glue dries, carefully cut out.
  3. Next, start gluing the lace, slowly cutting off all the excess. The mask must be completely covered with lace. If there are small gaps somewhere, use black nail polish to close them.
  4. Then the lace product can be decorated with sequins, rhinestones and sparkles, as well as attach a stick or elastic band to it.

The lacy black mask can only be made with lace, however, you will need to find some tight lace to hold the shape. Then you will have to work a little with the joining of parts and bends, gluing all the elements or sewing them together, and at the end - decorate the product.

Felt masks are also cut out from paper blanks.

If for the sake of the image you are ready for anything ...

Much more effort will be needed if you want to make a voluminous papier-mâché product. You can model it on a plasticine model. Despite some laboriousness of such a manufacturing process, the masks are very beautiful, spectacular and more durable. In addition, you can give the accessory the exact desired shape.

You can also make a mask from modeling dough (sometimes called modeling mass) using a regular paper blank. When you cut out a layer of dough, you will have to put it on a plastic form in the form of a face so that the future mask dries (until this happens, you need to remember to make holes for the rope in the product). Then you can paint it, make patterns on it, decorate it with crystals, rhinestones or feathers.

You know what's the coolest thing about New Year's Eve? His extraordinary magical aura. It just so happened, people believe that this is the time of miracles! They are waiting for them, sincerely believing in the possibility of the most unexpected and wonderful events. And in order to attract this wonderful energy to themselves, they themselves become a little magicians and naughty.

Master class on making a carnival mask

What you need:

  • game dough (it is also called mass for modeling);
  • scissors, paper;
  • pattern (you can find them at the end of the article);
  • any plastic form in the form of a face;
  • acrylic paints;
  • sequins, beads, feathers, rhinestones for decoration.

First you need to make a template out of paper. Then put it on a thinly rolled mass for modeling. Often, it is difficult to find a mass of white color, it does not matter, you can use color. You can roll it out with a regular rolling pin. The layer thickness should be 3-4 mm.

Then, with a sharp penknife, we cut the layer according to the template.

We impose what has turned out on the form and wait for complete drying, usually 12-24 hours, depending on the temperature. Do not dry the product near the battery - it may be deformed.

Don't forget to make holes for the rope.

After the New Year's mask has dried, you can paint it with acrylic paints.

Decorate with a pattern of mass for modeling, glue crystals and rhinestones.

You can draw the shape arbitrarily by hand or using a stencil. In order for the masks for children to be festive, you need to decorate them beautifully. You see that the brighter and more colorful, the more beautiful it turns out. You can use felt for the base, it is denser, and it will also keep its shape better. It is better to fasten all jewelry on a hot one. To fix it on the head, you can use an elastic band or stick a stick holder on the side.

Non-standard solution

soft animals

An excellent material as the basis for an animal mask for children can be felt. This is a soft, dense and natural material that can be found on the shelves of needlework stores. The advantages of felt are its elasticity and the ability to easily cut with scissors. Animals are made very well from felt because of the bright colors of the material.

Additional parts are attached to the base with superglue. Due to this, the mask for the child will seem voluminous. To make a reliable fastening to the head, it is better to use a thin elastic band. Sewn masks

For children, they can become even more interesting and voluminous. The most successful choice would be images of animals. Decide on the image and prepare the necessary materials:

  • the cloth;
  • scissors;
  • synthetic winterizer or cotton wool;
  • beads;
  • fishing line.

Start by making the base. To do this, draw the desired shape on the fabric, cut and sew, leaving holes for the eyes and filler. It is better to sew on the wrong side. After that, you need to turn out the base, fill it with padding polyester or cotton wool through the hole. After that, you can begin to manufacture additional parts. It can be ears, nose, eyes. Prepare each part separately, then you need to fill the workpiece with padding polyester. At the final stage, you need to sew all the details of the future animal with neat stitches. To make the child's mask fit snugly to the face, use a tight elastic band.

Cardboard masks

As you can see, the material for manufacturing can be varied. Some of them are at hand, but often underestimated. You can make not only masks for children from paper, but also from cardboard. This refers to the thick cardboard from which the boxes are made. Everyone in the house will surely have a cardboard box from under household appliances. That's exactly what you need to create the base. Brown cardboard is good because it does not need to be painted, so it is great for the faces of a variety of animals. Here, for example, the muzzle of a dog made of cardboard.

Additional details must be attached to such cardboard bases; in the case of a dog's muzzle, a nose, ears, and eyebrows will be required. You can use pieces of foam rubber, cotton wool or other bulk material. If you draw well, you can mark the missing details with a black marker: mustache, nose, facial lines. You will also need to fasten the fixing elastic band, too thin will not work for this mask. So that the gum itself is tightly connected to the cardboard and does not tear the base, you need to know one trick. Pass one end of the elastic through the hole and tie a piece of foam. Do the same on the other side, the muzzle is ready.

Complementing the image

The mask is only one of the elements of the children's costume. To complete the look harmoniously, you can decorate clothes or match them to match. It is worth taking into account the specifics of the image, supplementing it with the necessary paraphernalia. For example, to the muzzle of a dog, you need to sew a tail on the pants and put on mittens-paws. For carnival, you need to decorate a dress or costume with sequins. But you can do without it. Just pick up solid clothes to match the color of the base or its individual elements. A beautiful costume for a child for a holiday does not have to be expensive at all, original and thoughtful details are enough.

Buy ready-made or do it yourself? It's up to you. But, it seems to me, the most remarkable thing about this holiday is the preparation, the so-called New Year's bustle. Therefore, if you have time and inspiration, make a mask for your child with your own hands. A paper mask, for example, can be worn at home, but a felt mask will look very worthy on a matinee.

1. DIY paper mask

Materials: a sheet of A4 paper, paints with brushes, scissors, a hole punch, adhesive tape, an elastic band.

Your actions:

  1. Choose an animal mask, find its template on the Internet
  2. Print out the mask on a regular sheet of paper and color it in.
  3. Next, the mask needs to be cut out. Let an adult do it, so it will be more accurate. Glue the resulting blank onto cardboard to make the mask more rigid.
  4. Note that there are circles on each side of the mask. In these places you need to make holes for attaching the elastic.

Of course, paper is not the most durable material. Therefore, there is a risk that the mask will tear after the first use. To strengthen these places, cover them with tape.

2. Master class: Mask from a disposable plate

You will need: paper plate, pink paint and brush, glue, scissors, plain paper, hole punch, rubber band.

1. Paint a white paper plate with pink paint and leave to dry.

2. Print out the mask template. Can be printed in black and white and colorized.

3. Cut out the details. On the details of the peephole, you need to carefully make round holes.

5. To finally turn the plate into a pig mask, glue all the details in place.

6. Make holes using a hole punch on either side of the eyes. Thread an elastic band through them and tie off the ends.

3. Mask from foamiran. Instruction

This is a quick and easy way to make a mask. Foamiran is an elastic material for creativity. For a mask, foamiran 2 mm thick is best suited.

If you want to make a monkey mask, you will need two colors of foamiran. You can use the classic combination of brown and beige, or you can make a monkey, for example, in blue.

What else is needed?

  • mask template

  • glue (double sided tape)
  • elastic

The mask consists of several parts. We cut out the base of the mask from blue material, overhead elements (eyes, mouth and 2 ears) - from light beige foamiran. The pattern is translated into foamiran easily and quickly. The material itself is porous and soft; traces of a sharp object remain on it. So, for example, using a toothpick, you can simply circle the template. Foamiran is also cut out without problems. With the help of ordinary small scissors or a clerical knife. When all the elements are cut out, we place them on the base and glue them with glue or using double-sided tape. Draw a smiling mouth with a red felt-tip pen. It remains to fix the rubber band. Holes for it can be made with a regular toothpick.

Do-it-yourself fabric and felt masks

Here is an example of a felt mask that can be made in 10 minutes.

Fox mask. Materials: felt in three colors (orange, white, black), mask template, scissors, hot glue, children's sunglasses.

Step 1: Transfer the mask template onto the felt and cut it out.

Step 2: Once you've cut out the mask pieces, glue the fur, nose, and ears onto the main piece.

Step 3: Glue the finished mask on sunglasses, from which you need to remove the lenses first.

Felt masks have a number of advantages: they are bright, soft, do not wrinkle, do not tear. However, they can be very diverse.
