We sew a swimsuit with our own hands. Step by step instructions. Video master classes. Do-it-yourself swimsuit pattern lesson for women of full build

Good day everyone!

So the summer vacation season has come, and it's time to think about relaxing at sea. And what is a vacation at sea without a new swimsuit? Today we want to offer you to sew a swimsuit with your own hands.

This task may seem impossible to many of you, but believe that it is real! Our today's master class will tell you step by step how to make a stylish swimsuit at home.

So, to create a swimsuit, we need: 50 cm of lucra bathing knitwear, 40 cm of knitted mesh for lining, linen flat elastic, and, in order to make a pattern, ordinary knitted panties of a shape that is convenient for you.

In addition to the materials for this workshop, you will need a sewing machine with a zigzag function, since all connecting seams must remain very elastic.

Let's start by making a pattern. To do this, cut the panties along the side seams, and then separate the elastic bands from them.

The remaining piece is applied to the base material and cut out, taking into account the allowances for grinding.

Then cut out the lining from the knitted mesh as shown in the photo.

We will cover only the front of the panties with the lining. Peel and baste, then sew the lining to the base.

To make it comfortable and the materials do not slip, temporarily baste the lining on the base along the edge.

Elastic bands will help us to ensure a snug fit to the body. In this case, we use a simple linen gum, it is desirable that it be elastic and soft. Cut off pieces of elastic for each side of the main part of the panties.

It is very important to make the elastic a little shorter than the edge of the part, this will give the cuts extra elasticity.

In order for the edges to look finished, we cut out the edging - narrow strips of knitwear 2.5 cm wide.

These stripes can be both in the color of the base and in contrast, we will also make decorative laces for attaching panties and tying the top.

Baste the elastic bands for the panties to the edge of the knitted strips.

Then baste these blanks along all the cuts of the panties on the front side of the base, gathering the knitwear a little on the elastic.

Now the rubber bands can be attached. Adjust the zigzag stitch on your machine so that it is slightly narrower than the width of the elastic and the average stitch frequency.

Such a stitch will optimally maintain the extensibility of the edge.

After you have sewn all the elastic bands, bend the free edges of the edging to the wrong side, bending around the elastic band.

Baste and then stitch the edging on the front side.

Don't forget to remove the basting threads. After sewing, excess edging on the wrong side of the product can be cut out with scissors.

The base of the panties is almost ready. Bend the raw sections inward and stitch them onto the base of the product.

When you lay the line, step back from the edge of 1 cm, in order to later secure the side seam with a decorative cord.

A decorative cord can be bought ready-made, but it is better to make it yourself from the same knitwear. To do this, grind the prepared knitted strips in half, and then cut off the excess allowance with scissors.

Using a pin, turn the cord right side out.

The required total length of the swimsuit cord is 4 meters. It will be more convenient to make the cord immediately in separate cuts: two 50 cm each for panties, and two 1.5 m each for the top.

Thread the cord cuts into the side cuts of the finished panties.

Now let's take care of the top part of the swimsuit, making it even easier! From the main canvas we cut out two identical triangles.

Then two of the same triangles, only from the lining knitted mesh. Reduce the width of the lining by a couple of centimeters so that it cannot turn outward in the end result.

Baste and then stitch the sides of the lining and warp.

After you have stitched both triangles, turn them right side out.

The bottom wide edge must be aligned and overcast with temporary stitches.

Fold the top and bottom edges over to the side of the lining.

Stitch them in the same way as you sewed the side edges of the panties.

Pass the decorative cord through the holes in the upper and lower sections.

That's all!

A stylish swimsuit sewn with your own hands is ready!

In such a swimsuit you will definitely be unique, because it is sewn in a single copy. You can choose any color, and even experiment with a combination of ornaments, because the assortment of lucra swimwear in fabric stores is very diverse.

Be bright this summer!

Good luck with your endeavors and have a great summer vacation! Your workshop LOARA.

Getting ready for the summer! Swimsuit (pattern)

This swimsuit is separate, it consists of a top - a strip without straps, which, on the one hand, will allow you to tan evenly without nasty traces of untanned skin, and on the other, such a swimsuit, again, due to the lack of supporting action of the straps, will suit the owner of a relatively small chest (approximately , up to size 2, then for reliability, straps, nevertheless, should be used). Panties of this leotard with a fashionable low waist, but, in general, very chaste outlines. Patterns, such as to print and immediately sew-sew-sew, I do not give. But this is for the best, because all people are unique, and we women are even more so!) Therefore, below is a detailed construction of swimsuit patterns step by step. Swimsuit top pattern. The pattern of the upper part of the swimsuit - the top - consists of two parts: front and back, which are sewn together on the sides. In general, this is a simple strip, gradually tapering towards the back. You can see the process of building a pattern for a swimsuit top in the figure below. Construction of a pattern for a swimsuit top. The points in the first figure are marked at a distance of 3 cm from the seridine line. Crosses mark the centers of the chest. Each rectangle, anterior and posterior, initially has the following dimensions: in length equal to the half circumference of the chest * 0.88 - 4 cm. This reduction in length compensates for the stretching of the elastic fabric by reducing the height. And in height - 12 cm. When cutting, do not forget to make an increase of 20 mm to the constructed pattern: 10 mm for overlaying the edge and 10 mm for hemming 9 mm elastic. Swimsuit panty pattern. Building a swimsuit panty pattern is a more complex process with more steps. The figure below shows the steps for building a pattern. The panties of this swimsuit are about 5 cm above the leg opening. Construction of a pattern of swimsuit panties. When cutting the pattern of swimsuit panties, as well as when cutting the top, we make an increase of 20 mm for the same needs. Getting ready for the summer season or going to the pool? Can't buy the right beachwear option or want to sew an exclusive item? It's not very difficult. A swimsuit pattern can be used ready-made or self-built according to specific sizes. Choose the right method and model. Pamper yourself with exclusive things.

Exclusive design

Patterning a swimsuit that you like can be too complicated, so first you should decide how much time you are willing to spend on making a beach accessory, and be sure to take into account your experience. Models of swimsuits, both open and closed, are very diverse. If you are going to sew it yourself, then you are striving for exclusivity. In the absence of a lot of sewing experience, it is worth taking simple patterns, and you can surprise with an unusual decor or even material.

Products made of jeans look very original when bikinis are similar in design to cropped trousers. There are stylized pockets on the bodice or, again, on the lower part. A non-standard look will be given to the product by various combinations of bows, ribbons, ribbons from the same material as the base. As a first experiment, take the simplest pattern, but work on the decor.

Tools and materials for work

To sew a beautiful product, you will need the following:

  • fabric (preferably elastic, but you can use regular fabric);
  • gum (latex or not);
  • cups, bones (optional and skills);
  • pins;
  • tailor's chalk;
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • threads;
  • sewing machine (preferably with an overspoon);
  • fasteners;
  • additional decor (depending on your preferences).

In fact, to create the simplest product, you may not need any patterns, fasteners, or additional decor details, but only what you need when sewing any thing, plus elastic bands to fix the shape of the bottoms.

Sewing sequence

To make a swimsuit, work as follows:

  1. Cut out pattern pieces from paper.
  2. Arrange the blanks on the fabric in an optimal way.
  3. Pin the patterns with pins so that they do not move as you work.
  4. Circle the contours with tailor's chalk or remnants. Don't forget the seam allowances.
  5. Cut out all the elements from the material.
  6. Stitch the main seams of the product.
  7. Use an overlock to finish the edges.
  8. Attach rubber bands. Be sure to stretch them to the desired size during the sewing process, so that a uniform assembly is obtained later.
  9. Sew all the elements together.
  10. Make and attach decor.

When making any swimsuit, the work will go about the same, although the differences will depend on the specific model.

How to sew a swimsuit with your own hands: patterns

The process of making a beach outfit is largely determined by the complexity of the chosen model. If you are going to make a bodice and bottoms that are not in the form of triangles on strings, then you will have to start by making a paper template. There are two possibilities here:

  1. Find a ready-made version, for example, in a magazine.
  2. Build everything yourself.

The first way of working is good because you don’t have to take measurements, scrupulously build a drawing. Ready-made patterns are already made according to certain sizes. True, average proportions are used. If you have a non-standard figure, you will have to work hard with the construction.

You can make a drawing manually or using a computer program. But if you are not so confident a PC user, it is better to use a ruler, pencil and graph paper.

If you understand how to sew a swimsuit with your own hands, you may not need patterns at all. There are models in the manufacture of which it is easier to do without paper blanks.

Choosing a ready-made template of a closed version

The first is the simplest pattern of a closed swimsuit. To perform such a model, it is enough to make two parts, sew them on the sides and below. In the places indicated by the dotted line, an elastic band is sewn in.

The following model can be used exclusively as a swimsuit or as a base for a bathing dress. Add a frill at the bottom in the form of a skirt and decor on top. To support the chest, it is worth sewing cups and bones.

The first two options are best made from elastic fabric, and the third has tucks that will create a shape.

Based on the last template, you can build a pattern yourself. Here all lines and guides are shown in detail.

Separate swimsuit pattern

So, you have decided to get an exclusive model. What to sew a swimsuit? The closed pattern does not suit you, because you like to sunbathe, and you also want to show the charms of the figure on the beach. Use the following simple option.

Below is a more complex pattern of a separate swimsuit. In addition to the details of the base, there are also elements for sewing decor in the form of bows for both swimming trunks and the bodice.

If you like the template presented, print it, focusing on your proportions, and use it.

How to build a pattern yourself

If you can’t find a pattern for yourself, make a paper blank yourself. This is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. If you have no experience in building at all, but really want to sew a swimsuit with your own hands, the pattern is easily done according to the item that is available and fits well on you. Take panties of a suitable shape from a set of underwear, lay them flat on the surface of a sheet of paper and circle the outline. First make one part, then turn the thing over and circle the other side.

It is better to use a product without assemblies as a sample. If you want to get an exact copy of the frill bottoms, you will have to slightly adjust the outline. As for a simple bodice pattern, you can make it in the form of a single strip with sewn-on straps, cups in the form of triangles on the belt, etc. Simplify the possible option to the level of your experience or the amount of time available for work.

As you can see, it is quite possible to update your beach wardrobe with your own hands and without going to the store. The swimsuit pattern is not very difficult to build, although it is better to use a ready-made template. Choose models, create fashionable things yourself.

In summer, when the right weather finally comes for sunbathing, swimming and having a good time at least for a weekend on the lake or beach, it is impossible to imagine your life without a good swimsuit. A well-chosen bathing suit will allow you to hide some figure flaws, if any, and emphasize undoubted advantages. But if there is no suitable model in the stores - in terms of material, style, color or overall quality, it does not matter - you can sew a bathing suit yourself.

Let's consider all the stages of this process - we will select the appropriate fabric, type of bathing suit, its pattern, watch master classes, and get a unique perfectly fitting model that will allow its owner to become the queen of the beach

What fabric can be sewn from?

Please note that when making a swimsuit from stretch fabric, all additional elements (such as linings) must also be made from stretch fabric or cut in a diagonal direction - this will also give them elasticity.

There are five main types of fabrics that can be found on the label:

  1. Lycra. It is used in the manufacture of almost all types of swimwear, as it is an elastic fiber capable of stretching and returning to its original shape. Usually the fabric of a swimsuit consists of 20-30% of this material.
  2. Polyester. It has long been used in production, as swimsuits made with it practically do not fade. Of its disadvantages, one can single out the fact that such a swimsuit dries for a rather long time and quickly deforms.
  3. Polyamide. This type of fabric is used for the production of figure-correcting swimwear, which is due to its slimming properties. It dries quickly and is not subject to fading, but is a shiny material, so it is often used not on its own, but in combination with lycra and elastane - this ensures its durability.
  4. Tactel. So named because it is very skin friendly. It is formed from a combination of lycra and knitwear. Its advantages are instant drying, elasticity.
  5. Microfiber. It is well breathable, elastic and pleasant to the touch. It can stretch over time, so it is suitable for girls with constant figure parameters.

A non-stretch fabric can be used for a swimsuit model that should not stretch (bikini). Materials such as pique, denim, muslin, compressed crepe, chiffon, veil, pique and others are suitable for them.

In addition to fused pieces of fabric, a swimsuit can be knitted with various threads or yarns. Such models are usually one-piece and have a lace insert that will add femininity. Threads for such a swimsuit should be selected according to the same principle as the fabric - they must be elastic, pleasant to the touch and durable.

Construction of a one-piece swimsuit pattern

To make it easier to draw up a pattern for a one-piece bathing suit, we will use the standard pattern for a dress pattern. Copy or redraw the front and back of the pattern, making sure that the middle of the backs of both parts are parallel and that the lines of the chest, waist and hips (horizontal lines) are at the same level.

Now let's find the point of the length of the seat. To do this, down from the waist line in the middle of the back, set aside the value of this length, mark the resulting point and draw a horizontal line from it to the middle of the front of the future swimsuit - we get the line of the length of the infragluteal fold.

Let's define the gusset line (this is an additional layer of soft fabric in underwear that provides comfort when wearing it). To do this, you need to set aside two points:

  • the first is located below along the middle of the back of the swimsuit (from the point of the length of the infragluteal fold, we set aside ¼ of the value of the length of the seat + 1 cm);
  • the second - located below along the middle of the front of the swimsuit (from the point of the length of the infragluteal fold, we set aside ¼ of the value of the length of the seat).

From the resulting points, we draw small horizontal lines inside the pattern pattern, the length of which should be 3 cm each, and for sizes 16 and 18 - 3.5 cm each.

Unlike drawing up a standard dress pattern, when drawing a swimsuit pattern, you should not add additional centimeters for a free fit along the main lines (waist, chest, hips), even if the future swimsuit is made of non-stretch fabric.

The narrowing on the back is often done a little more than on the front, which is associated with the features of the figure.

The last action at this stage for the top of the swimsuit is to draw the side lines of the swimsuit, focusing on the lines of the standard dress pattern.

Let's build a cutout for the leg. The standard depth of such a cutout is 3.5 cm above the hip line. To determine the width of both parts of the swimsuit, we will use the already found parameter of the seat length line. From the middle of the back, it will be ¼ of the circumference of the hips, divided in half, and from the middle of the front, it will be equal to ¼ of the circumference of the hips, divided by 4 and minus another 0.5 centimeters.

Now let's combine all the received designations - the extreme values located at the base of both sides of the swimsuit, with the points of the seat length line and the lower points located on the side lines. Let's reduce each of the resulting lines by half and designate a hole for the leg, correlating it with the outlines of the body in these areas.

Please note - the cutout in front should be deeper. Focusing on the lines on the sides and at the base, carefully look at the compatibility of the cutout lines on both sides of the swimsuit, aligning them with each other.

P sharpen the lining of the gusset. On the front of the swimsuit drawing, set aside 1 cm up, and then, using the first drawing as a sample, mark the vertical lines for the lining. To make a lining without using an additional bottom seam, we will transfer the already existing parts of the lining from the first drawing and combine them along the bottom line.

Draw a 1 cm long line down from the border of the base of the neckline in the center of the back of the swimsuit and draw a horizontal line from it to the middle of the front part. In the middle of the diagram, draw a second line, which will be 2.5 cm lower in level.

Let's determine what width parameters the straps from the back should correspond to. The distance from the middle of the back of the swimsuit is 2/3 of the width of the back, and the width of the straps will be 1/3 of the width of the back. Set aside the necessary points and mark the neckline and armhole down to the horizontal line of the bust.

Let's determine the width of the straps of the front part of the swimsuit. According to the constructions made above, we set aside the same distances (2/3 and 1/3 of the width of the back), then we also draw an armhole and designate the neckline, which will be located 7 cm above the level of the chest.

Let's check by imposing whether the resulting lines converge, the neckline and the armhole - first along the lines of the shoulder, and then along the side lines. Correct if necessary.

Depending on the material used for sewing swimsuits, the direction of the thread on the details of the pattern changes - they should be indicated on the drawing in advance so as not to get confused later:

  • For inelastic fabrics, the oblique cut is optimal (when the thread is located at an angle of 45 ° to the middle of one of the parts of the swimsuit);
  • Inelastic but soft fabrics should be stitched parallel to the middle of the parts of the swimsuit;
  • When using knitwear or other elastic fabrics that tend to stretch in two directions, the thread should be directed in such a way that the parts are as elastic as possible in width.

To draw a chest tuck, use carbon paper to translate the top tuck.

To determine the area in which the cups of the future swimsuit will be located, draw a circle with a radius of 8 cm from the center of the chest (for size 12). For other sizes, it can vary by half a centimeter.

By carefully taking all the measurements and transferring them to the drawing, you can get a pattern of a perfectly fitting one-piece swimsuit.

Modeling a separate swimsuit

The one-piece bikini is one of the most popular types of swimwear today. With it, most of the body will be covered with an even tan, and it also looks beautiful on girls with a good figure, since most of the body is open. Consider the pattern of a two-piece swimsuit pattern with a bandeau bodice (strapless), which allows you to get a tan that fits any dress.

The swimsuit top is a simple stripe consisting of front and back pieces. The back stripe narrows towards the middle, starting at a distance of 3 cm from the midline and further towards the center. The front strip at the same distance increases, bends upwards.

Each strip is divided into two equal rectangles with the following parameters: length - half-girth of the chest, multiplied by 0.88 minus 4 cm (the reduction in length compensates for the stretching of the fabric); height - 12 cm. Add to this 1 cm for the overlock and hemming the elastic.

To sew a leotard with a strapless bodice, take the following measurements: the perimeter of the chest along the lower part to the midline, the longitudinal diameter. According to these measurements, the upper part of the swimsuit is embroidered with the addition of straps, a back strip and accessories. On the top and bottom of the cup there are drawstrings for threading the strings.

Designing swimwear is a more complex and multi-step process. To make them fit well, you can rip open the old bathing suit and the finished pattern. Knowing that this model will definitely fit well, sew the bottom of the swimsuit. If there is no such model, then the edits are modeled according to the measurements taken from the figure. Pay attention to the fabric from which the swimsuit will be sewn - if it is knitwear, then 10-15% of the length must be subtracted from all the parameters obtained so that it does not stretch too quickly.

Do not forget that, in addition to the main dimensions, you should leave small allowances in order to later sew the fabric and insert rubber bands.

How to sew a large size model for obese women with your own hands?

Choosing a swimsuit for obese women often becomes a rather difficult task, since most stores cannot offer high-quality models of the correct pattern that would model the figure and allow girls of any size to feel confident enough to go to the beach in summer. If nothing suitable was found in the stores, do not despair - you can always sew a swimsuit with your own hands.

First of all, pay attention to the choice of fabric for the future swimsuit. It should be elastic, but should not stretch too much, otherwise it will stretch after the first swim. The most suitable fibers that should be present in the composition of the material are microfiber, tactile, lycra or elastane. Models containing polyamide are perfect - it belongs to materials that can visually adjust the figure due to the slimming effect.

The next criterion is breast support. Here you can both remove the pattern according to the cups of the previous swimsuit, if it kept its shape well, and make a pattern according to the actual sizes. Please note that the straps should be wide so that the shoulders visually look narrower and neater.

When choosing materials, take a closer look at the rubber bands. Use one made from latex, as they are unaffected by the chlorine and salt found in pools and oceans and will therefore last longer.

Swimming trunks with a high waist look very good on a magnificent figure - by adding 10-15 centimeters to the main waistline of the underpants, you get a stylish model that visually outlines the figure.

  1. Make folds in the bodice between the cups, gather the cane a little towards the middle. Sew the resulting folds to secure and, if desired, decorate - so the model will look much more interesting.
  2. Shoulder straps should be wide for two reasons - so as not to create discomfort when worn and not cut into the skin and so that the swimsuit looks neat on a full figure.
  3. When sewing swim shorts, regardless of the type of pattern chosen, leave an extra 3 centimeters along the top line for the elastic and be sure to leave allowances for sewing the seams.
  4. Do not fold the leg openings so that they do not rub against the skin, especially after bathing.
  5. Follow the direction of the thread when sewing - when cutting, the loops on knitwear should unravel from top to bottom.

By following these simple rules, you can be sure that the swimsuit will be sewn correctly and take its rightful place in the summer wardrobe of its owner.

How to do a push up?

Push-up can be a solution for girls who have naturally small breasts, or breasts that have lost their shape after giving birth during the lactation period. Inserts will visually lift the chest and make it a little larger, give a neat shape.

The pattern of a push-up swimsuit differs from a regular swimsuit only in the presence of foam rubber inserts from the bottom in the cups - they give the whole visual effect.
