Do I need to apply a primer before the gel polish. Primer for nails, what is it: application and types of primers. How to use an acid-free tacky primer

Pusher, buff, bond, primer, dehydrator ... The modern beauty industry is developing rapidly and throws new terms at us, the purpose of which is not always clear. You seem to understand that you obviously need this pusher, but why - you don't fully understand. Or the same primer that many call a bond. What is it for? And how do you use this primer? For which nails is it needed? Give a clear and clear answer!

Behold at the root

Primer - from the English. a primer - a primer. Already clearer. Further more.

In construction, a primer is a special liquid agent that they like to apply without fail before any finishing work: painting walls and ceilings, gluing wallpaper, laying tiles. Because it strengthens the base and improves adhesion to the future surface.

In the world of manicure, a primer is used for gel and acrylic extensions, when applying ordinary decorative and gel polish, and thanks to the same functions, it:

  • improves the adhesion of the artificial material to the natural nail;
  • degreases the nail plate;
  • dehydrates its surface;
  • disinfects, protecting the marigold from unwanted microorganisms.

Entertaining chemistry

All artificial materials, be it acrylic, gel, regular or gel polish, are afraid of water or, scientifically, hydrophobic. And the surface of the marigold is moisture-loving, or hydrophilic. Like the Montagues and the Capulets, they are completely different, but I really want to be together. And the primer helps with this.

Primer molecules have two ends. One is hydrophobic, the other is hydrophilic. Like double-sided tape, one end of the molecule attracts artificial material, and the other - the surface of the nail.

For this reason, replacing the primer with something will not work. Yes, you can wipe your nails with alcohol, citric acid and other miraculous remedies from the Internet. This will dry and degrease the surface, but will not provide the required "stickiness", especially if you have problem nails.

As you might expect, using a nail primer is easy.

Instructions for using nail primer:

  1. Holy of Holies. Thorough processing of the nail plate! Ignoring this stage negates all subsequent manipulations. Gently process the nails with a buff or a nail file. Pay special attention to the lateral ridges and the cuticle area. Use a stiff brush to brush off dust.
  2. Take a little primer on the brush, remove the excess on the edge of the bottle. The thinner the layer, the better! Apply the brush to the nail and let the product flow. Avoid skin contact with primer.
  3. Air dry the layer well for the required time. In rare cases, a UV or LED lamp will be required. The manufacturer in the instructions for each specific product indicates such details.
  4. That's it, you can proceed to the next step of building or manicure.

And now about the nuances. There are three types of primers: prep primer, acid-free and acidic. Each has its own characteristics.

Prep primer

Prep primer or preparation primer, i.e. preparatory. He also has a middle name - bond. Bond - bond, to connect. It is the prep-primer that is called the bond. It is a mild preparatory agent, without colorants or fragrances, i.e. hypoallergenic. It degreases well and removes moisture from the upper layer of the nail plate, without affecting the deeper layers. It has a very gentle effect on the nails, does not disturb the water balance and does not dry them out.

When to use?

When building up with gel or acrylic before applying an acidic or acid-free primer. Alas and ah, the bond alone will not be enough in this case, it is too weak to provide the necessary grip.

But it will help out perfectly when using regular and gel polish in cases where the coating does not hold well, quickly cleaves and the reason for this is definitely not in the execution technique. Will extend the lifespan of your manicure. Designed for young ladies with oily, brittle, peeling nails, as well as with increased perspiration, which can cause delamination of the artificial material.

Experts from In "Garden have created two products: a prep-primer Nail Prep System and a Bonder Bonder, thereby completely confusing everyone. According to their technology, you first need to apply the prep and then the bonder. In this case, Bonder acts as an acid-free primer.

Acid-free primer

It performs the same functions, only the intensity of the impact is stronger. Affects the scaly structure of the upper layers of the marigold. Manufacturers try and create formulas for very thin and brittle nails, without thinning and overdrying them.

When to use?

When building nails with gel. Works like double-sided tape, creating a strong bond between the nail plate and the gel material. The composition does not contain aggressive components, therefore, when it comes into contact with the cuticle and skin, it does not cause irritation.

Suitable for applying under regular and gel polish, if the prep did not cope with his task. Masters of their craft say that with good preparation of the nail, an acid-free primer is quite suitable for acrylic extension.

Acidic primer

The agent with the strongest effect. It contains methacrylic acid in a concentration of 20 to 100%. It dries well the nail plate, touching the deep layers, raises the scales of the upper layer. Acrylic has a very high pH, \u200b\u200baround 11, while marigolds have a slightly acidic environment, between 6 and 7. The components of the acidic primer cause a temporary change in the pH of the natural nail to bring it closer to the pH of the growing acrylic. This also helps with adhesion.

The thing is very effective, but just as aggressive. It must be applied very carefully, as if it gets on the skin, it can cause burning, irritation and even a slight chemical burn, and with prolonged use it can thin the nail plate.

When to use?

When building with acrylic or gel, if the acid-free does not cope. Ideal for very oily nails with uneven surfaces. Not suitable for those with fragile, brittle, flaking nails. In this case, building is not recommended. It is better to heal the nails first.

After application, the nail becomes whitish. This means that the primer is dry and you can start building.

Do you need a nail primer? There are general recommendations from specialists and manufacturers, and then everything depends on the nails, the master and the selected manicure technology. Do you fully comply with the technology for applying gel polish, but does it quickly chip off? Maybe you should try prep. Do you extend your nails with acrylic without using a primer or do you use an acid-free primer and everything sticks perfectly? Great, so you're in luck with both your nails and your hands. After all, the main thing in this business is to prepare the marigolds well. Be creative, and lasting manicure for everyone!

Before applying any coating to the nail plate, its preliminary preparation is necessary. It is for this purpose that a nail primer serves. It is used to degrease the surface of a natural nail or to dehydrate it, which contributes not only to the correct application of the final cosmetic material, but also to its even distribution over the entire working surface of the nail.

It should be noted that modern cosmetology has several types of these liquids, namely:

  • pre-primers;
  • acidic;
  • acid-free.

Pre-primer

It is used before applying acid-free or acidic formulations. It is also called "bond". It is necessary to produce high-quality degreasing of the natural nail plate. It should be noted that in the process of degreasing, dehydration of the nail also occurs, which is mandatory in the process of extending nails or gluing artificial ones.

The preparatory or bond composition only degreases the upper nail layer without any disturbances in the water balance, which is very important to exclude the fragility of the marigold and its drying.

The substance does not contain any fragrances or colorants. Also not hypoallergenic.

Bond composition applied to the nail plate provides the varnish with additional durability, preventing it from "slipping" the next day.

The main indicator that forces the use of this primer for nails is increased sweating on the hands of the client, who is getting the extension of the nail plates.

This composition in cosmetology is used in the process of nail extension using a gel. It creates a kind of rough layer on the surface of the nail, which contributes to a stronger connection of the final material used with the nail plate itself. Thanks to its use, the extended nail will not crack, exfoliate and crumble.

The acid-free composition is applied exclusively to the surface of a natural nail to prevent the various cosmetics used from getting on the cuticle or tissue.

Acidic primer

An acidic nail primer based on methacrylic acid is being prepared. It is applied to the nail plate after it has been filed. Due to the chemical elements that make up it, it provokes the opening of the scales of the nail plates. When they rise, they create an excellent rough surface, which contributes to a more reliable adhesion of the build-up material to the surface of the natural nail.

This composition is used in the process of working with acrylics. Before starting work, the nail should be covered with this product twice and with the obligatory drying of each layer.

Drying of the applied layer of acidic primer will be signaled by the appearance of white dusting on the nail plate.

Only after this reaction is it possible to apply the material for nail extension.

Secrets of working with a primer

Certain secrets of working with this substance were revealed during the conversation. However, there are still some that deserve scoring:

  • Surprisingly, this substance has a kind of disinfectant effect.
  • When using this liquid, it is necessary to avoid getting it on the tips. This can cause the nail to crack and break.
  • The composition is applied using a special and convenient brush.
  • In case of contact with the skin, wash it off with plenty of water to prevent skin irritation or redness.

Among the variety of such liquids, it is worth paying attention to the products of the companies JessNail, LeChat, IBD Stick and Kinetics.

It should be noted that any of the existing types of primers does not require the use of an ultraviolet lamp for drying, since it dries up within one or two minutes from the moment of application.

Primer application technology

The technology for applying such a composition is simple, but it requires some knowledge, consisting in the following steps:

  • preparing a lint-free napkin;
  • unscrew the lid, then carefully squeeze the brush;
  • we blot it on a napkin and only after that we start applying.

Further steps will look like this:

  1. Lightly, closer to the center, we touch the nail plate, allowing the substance to spread.
  2. Make sure that the nail primer does not come into contact with the skin or cuticles.
  3. Having covered the entire surface of the nail plate with the composition, proceed to the next nail.
  4. After completing the procedure, close the jar tightly and immediately discard the used napkin.

It is worth clarifying that any nail primer is a rather aggressive substance. However, compliance with safety precautions will make it easy to work with it.

Experienced cosmetologists recommend applying an acidic primer to “problem” nails without fail. By the word "problem" we mean nibbled, heavily greasy, deep-set, as well as in the case of extremely damp hands due to profuse sweating.

This tool is simply irreplaceable in the case of working with nail plates located on the legs.

The first and most important step in nail extension is the application of a primer. The primer is the base layer on which all other stages of the formation of the artificial nail are built.

Primer functions

As in any other business, and when creating artificial nails, a reliable base is required to obtain a high-quality result. When building nails, such a base is obtained using a primer that degreases and dries the natural nail plate, thereby preparing the surface of the nail for adhesion to the modeling material. The primer acts on the principle of double-sided tape, being the connecting factor between the natural nail and the artificial material.

Another important function of the primer is to disinfect the nail plate. Since the service life of an artificial nail is quite long, with a poorly made base under it, microorganisms and fungi may multiply, as a result of which the natural nail exfoliates and crumbles. This often leads to the need for long-term treatment and restoration of natural nail plates.

A professionally applied primer prevents the appearance of white stripes on the nails, the beauty of which largely depends on the correct choice of means and the quality of application. An absolute indication for the use of a primer for nail extension is excessive sweating of the hands.

Varieties of primers

There are three main types of primers:

  • prep primer;
  • acidic primer;
  • acid-free primer.

Each of them has a specific function.

1.Prep primer

Before applying an acidic or acid-free primer, it is recommended to treat the nail with a prep primer, which has a protective function. Prep-primer, or as it is also called, bond has a gentle effect on the nail, dehydrating only its surface layer and protecting it from overdrying and brittleness.

Thus, the bond acts as a buffer layer between the nail and an acidic or acid-free primer. It is often applied before the varnish is applied, which makes the varnish layer stronger and more durable.

The prep-primer does not contain dyes or fragrances, therefore it can be safely used by persons prone to allergies.

2.Acid-free

This type of primer is used for gel extension. As its name suggests, it is free of methacrylic acid, hypoallergenic and non-irritating to the skin around the nail. The acid-free primer degreases, dehydrates and prepares the scaly layer of the nail plate, providing reliable adhesion to the artificial material.

In addition, it disinfects the nail, preventing further development of diseases under the extended nail. The acid-free primer is inert and does not change the original color of the growing material.

3.Acid

This type of primer, based on methacrylic acid, is used for acrylic extensions. It thoroughly degreases and dehydrates all layers of the nail plate. Therefore, its use is not recommended for poor condition of the nails.

However, its advantage is complete nail disinfection. The acidic primer actively acts on the surface of the nail plate, lifting its scales and creating ideal conditions for adhesion to the built-up material.

The indication for its use is the trampoline-like shape of the nails and increased sweating of the hands. Applying an acidic primer requires extreme care and professionalism, since the acid it contains is highly irritating to the skin.

The video will help you choose the necessary primer:

Primer technology

Let's leave a little instruction on how to use the primer. Application requires precision and care. First of all, you should move the cuticle and open the nail, carefully cut off the side ridges. Then proceed to surface treatment. The nail is treated with an antiseptic, sawed off and the upper glossy layer is removed, the resulting dust is brushed off with a stiff brush.

When applying the primer, avoid contact with the cuticle and the skin around the nail. To do this, dipping the brush into the product, squeeze it against the edge of the bottle. It is necessary to apply the primer in a very thin layer, which will allow, firstly, to avoid getting the product on the skin, and secondly, to ensure its best effect: a thick layer of primer can become a barrier for lifting the nail scales, which will negatively affect the adhesion of the material.

Often, to better preserve the natural nail, a bond (prep-primer) is applied under an acidic or acid-free primer. After it dries, they begin to apply the primer itself. A brush with a primer is applied to the center of the nail, the product will spread by itself. After the first coat, a second coat is applied.

Wait until the layers are completely dry, as evidenced by the whitish color of the nail. Drying usually lasts no more than 1-2 minutes and does not require the use of a UV lamp.

If you start forming an artificial nail without waiting for the primer to dry completely, corrosive impurities contained in it can lead to a discoloration of the material and its rapid cracking.

Modern gel extension technologies involve the use of an acid-free primer, which has a more gentle effect on the nail. In addition, the properties of the gel material are such that it adheres well to the nail without deep dehydration and degreasing of the nail plate.

In the case of acrylic extensions, the use of an acidic primer is required, especially if the nail is exfoliated or affected by fungus and there are no ideal conditions for adhesion.

Very often, in order not to torment the nail once again with aggressive chemicals, there is a desire to replace the primer with some less aggressive substance. In this case, if the material for building is of high quality, you can degrease it with alcohol or acetone.

However, to guarantee a lasting result, you should adhere to the technology described in the instructions supplied with each extension system.

The use of gel polish in manicure made a real revolution in the world of fashion and beauty. Now nail care has become both easier and more difficult at the same time, and the durability of the coating directly depends on many nuances and features of the selection of materials.

One of the concepts faced by novice specialists and just people who have decided to master the art of nail aesthetics is the so-called nail primer. What this material is, why is it needed and how to choose the right primer for gel polish is described in our article.

What it is

Primer is a clear liquid or gel without a special odor, which is applied to the surface of the nail plate before performing the main coating. Due to its composition, the primer perfectly degreases and dehydrates the nail, while not overdrying it. It is included in the starting

This is extremely necessary to ensure the durability of the manicure, because gel polish does not adhere well to wet surfaces. Also, the primer is famous for its disinfecting effect, but its effect does not extend deeper than the top layer of the plate, which means it has a very gentle effect.

Several types of primers are available, with the range of suitable products increasing every day. These products are usually very easy to recognize thanks to their characteristic dark glass bottle. Thus, protection from the sun's rays is ensured. Outwardly, such a bottle is no different from ordinary varnish, and for the convenience of application it is equipped with the same brush.

The labeling of the product usually makes it clear that what you are looking at is a primer or "primer" in literal translation.

It must be applied immediately before the mechanical preparation of the nail plate before applying the coating. In order to make the right choice in favor of the most optimal product, you must also familiarize yourself with the main classification of these funds.

The composition of the product, of course, is not too publicized by the manufacturers, but usually an acid-containing and acid-free primer can be distinguished. Both options are quite common, but before buying, you need to determine the necessary task in order to maximize its implementation.

What are the primers:

It is necessary to choose the right product taking into account the real needs, focusing also on other purchase criteria. In order not to get lost in the abundance of such goods, you also need to know other nuances of a good choice.

Also, to achieve the best result, it is worth knowing

How to choose the right one

The main points are simple: don't focus solely on cost. Reasonable savings are appropriate, but knowingly cheap samples are still not worth buying. In this case, there is a great risk of getting a low-quality fake and causing irreparable harm to your nails.

The composition of the product contains rather aggressive substances, but proven manufacturers are trying to mitigate their effect by introducing caring and protective components into the mixture. In cheap primers, this, of course, will not happen, so you can cause significant harm to your health.

What to look for when buying:

  • Outlet reputation... Unfortunately, no one is insured against counterfeits, but decent stores and Internet sites always strive to satisfy the buyer completely and carefully check the sold products. You should also not buy the product "on the run" in questionable kiosks and stalls.
  • Product packaging... Despite the laconic design of most of these tools, simple recommendations will help you immediately see a fake. The slightest irregularities and asymmetries of letters and stickers, as well as an easily erased inscription, indicate a possible falsification.
  • Shelf life... Most of us are already accustomed to controlling the purchase of food on this basis, but we simply forget about other categories of goods or consider this indicator to be insignificant. However, this factor also affects the quality of the product, as well as its long-term "service". Very often you can see discounts and promotions on goods whose shelf life is already coming to an end, so be careful.

On the video, which primer to choose for gel polish:

It is advisable to give preference to the products of trusted firms specializing in products for nail design. It is best to buy a primer, starter and topcoat from the same brand.

Ideally, all such products should be of the same "pedigree", but if the funds do not allow you to purchase a complete set, it is better to save a little on a colored coating that does not come into direct contact with your nails. In the case of a primer and fixer, such advice will be unsuccessful.

Best manufacturers and prices

Among the entire assortment, the undisputed leaders in the manufacture of such products stand out. Choosing the right tool, you need to pay attention to them. A quick overview of the main items and comparison with other products will help you make the right choice.

A nail primer is an excellent tool that provides long-term adhesion of the coating to the nail plate. Using it also guarantees additional disinfection and drying of nails.

But which one is best to use is detailed in this article.

Depending on the composition, an acid and acid-free primer is distinguished, the use of which provides degreasing, as well as additional drying of the nail plate. The main selection criteria and an overview of the best manufacturers of this indispensable nail art assistant are presented in our article.

In the conventional sense, a nail primer is a material that is used as the first base coat. This is where the main work with the nail plate begins. The main function of any primer is to prepare the plate, to provide a high-quality follow-up or building materials.

Recently, nail primer has become more and more popular. Its use significantly improves the quality of manicure with gel polish (shellac) and build-up. There is nothing to replace it with yet. Such a base degreases the surface, protects the plate from damage, and artificial nails from peeling.

Purpose and features

There are two main types of primer, depending on the composition: acidic, without acidic. You cannot replace them with anything. Both types are designed to strengthen the attachment of the coating (gel polish or shellac) and extension materials with the nail plate. The difference between them exists only in composition and application. For example, non-acidic in most cases is not suitable for acrylic extensions, but with gel technique and under gel polish (shellac) or biogel, it is ideal. Well, an acidic primer is not used for acrylic extensions for correction, as well as when tips are used.

In addition, the nail primer provides a kind of disinfection, drying of the nail surface before the main work, protects it from pathogens of bacterial and fungal infections. Observations of the primer confirm that it is important for acrylic, gel extensions, manicure and even (shellac). The latter refers rather to the gentle, non-acidic type, which is applied before the varnish coating.

It dries quickly, reduces the risk of allergic reactions, so it can be used for sensitive nails when manicure with gel polish (shellac). A layer of such a base, correctly applied before coating with gel polish (shellac), prevents chipping, flaking, and prolongs the life of the coating.

The acidic primer contains active methacrylic acid (30-100%). It is she who allows you to raise the scales of the nail, after which the best connection of the material with the nail plate is ensured. However, acid is a rather aggressive component, so you need to avoid getting such a primer on the skin and especially the cuticle. Redness and even burns may occur.

It can also be used on damaged, deformed nails. The best option would be an acidic primer for those nail plates that are prone to oily or fungal growth, as well as with increased sweating of the hands. Cosmetics manufacturers offer a huge variety of materials today. Among them, the products of Cody and Bluesky are in great demand. Moreover, gel polish (shellac) is often bought from the latter manufacturer along with the base material.

Home application

Manufacturers may not write detailed information on how to use the primer, so it is better to prepare in advance. You need to find out everything: how much money is needed, which varnish to choose, how to properly handle the nails, how long the layer will dry. The application technique is the same regardless of the type of primer. Any primer for nails should be used, and even more so, it should be applied as carefully as possible. This primarily applies to acidic.

It is better to take and apply a small amount of the product with a special brush. Typically, this professional brush is already included in the package. It is better to process it gradually, two to three nails at a time. In the process, it is better to use a paper napkin so that you can get the brush wet and remove excess liquid.

For drying, you can use UV lamps, although the primers do not need to be used (use according to the manufacturer's instructions). Naturally, the base coat also dries quickly enough. The application technique is simple and affordable for home use. In general, it can be described in this order:

  1. Push back the cuticle with an orange stick or a pusher.
  2. Treat the nail plate with a buff, clean it with a brush, use a degreaser.
  3. Apply a drop of primer, then carefully spread it in a thin layer evenly over the entire surface.
  4. Dry. The layer will dry for as long as specified by the manufacturer.

Do not touch your nails while the applied base coat dries. Then you can go further: work with gel polish or shellac (if not an acid base is applied), do building. If the product gets on the skin or cuticle, be sure to rinse the area with plenty of water.

Most would argue that using an acidic primer is more beneficial. It turns out to be very economical. In addition, it is not so expensive, so all costs are usually justified.
