Topiary from autumn leaves. How to make an autumn tree craft: do it yourself

Leaves are the simplest autumn material from which you can make crafts of a different plan with your own hands. So is the topiary, that is, an artificial tree that serves as a beautiful decor. There are several options for how to make a tree out of leaves with your own hands; more than one master class is devoted to this. Some crafts will be discussed in more detail.

For this craft, you do not need a lot of expensive materials, and the main elements literally lie on the ground. So, collect a lot of beautiful, not very large, bright leaves. To make the color scheme impressive, take sheets lighter - as practice shows, brown and crimson do not look so elegant in topiary.

You will also need dry twigs and berries.

This master class also assumes the presence of:

  • Pot-flowerpot;
  • Wooden stick;
  • Foam ball blank;
  • Spray paints;
  • Hot glue;
  • Thermal gun;
  • Masking tape.

For this craft, you will need two foam balls at once. You insert one of them tightly into the flowerpot, or better, fix it on hot glue. You need to stick a wooden stick into this ball and do it so that it buries itself in the bottom of the pot.

  • Foam ball surface, of what is in the pot, cover with masking tape. Paint the pot itself and the barrel stick with spray paint. For example, golden, yet the theme of topiary is autumn. Masking tape is needed so that the foam does not stain. Also protect the surface where you are working from paint ingress.
  • Place the second foam ball on the other end of the stick. This will be the base for the crown. Leaves and twigs need to be inserted into the top ball, forming a crown.

A very important point - you can make topiary from dry leaves, but its aesthetics will be in doubt. No, dry leaves have their own beauty, but this master class still offers to process the leaves with your own hands.

Maple Leaf Topiary: Leaf Treatment

You can process the leaves with your own hands so that there is no need for artificial ones. It's no secret that many autumn crafts are made from artificial leaves.

The master class offers the use of glycerin:

  • You need to make a glycerin solution. To do this, take 2 parts of boiling water for 1 part of glycerin. Bring everything to a boil over medium heat and then cool.
  • Pour the solution into a heat-resistant container, cover with a lid and shake well.
  • Dip the stems in a hot solution so that it covers them at least 7-9 cm.
  • Place the container with submerged plants where it is cool and out of direct sunlight. You will know that the glycerin has been absorbed when droplets of moisture appear on the leaves.

As you can see, the master class is not difficult, but the process of absorbing glycerin lasts at least 10 days, or even all three weeks. From time to time you will have to check how the plants are doing. In some of them, glycerin penetrates faster. Sometimes dense stems are laid out with scissors so that glycerin penetrates into them more quickly.

When everything is ready, the leaves can be taken out for crafts, they must be wiped with a dry cloth. True, you have to dry the leaves. Someone is forcing events, after a couple of days, removing the leaves hung on a rope, someone dries them for two weeks.

The leaves can be coated with a water-resistant colorless varnish. And after drying, you can definitely use it.

Topiary from leaves step by step: a master class for beginners

DIY-prepared leaves can decorate a tree. The main task is not to disturb the harmony of the craft. And this must be done so that the crown is round, the color transitions are natural, and the berries only emphasize the autumn mood of the topiary.

The master class continues as follows:

  • Without additional decor, the topiary will be faded. Openwork ribbons, braid in the color of a tree will do. The flowerpot can be decorated with beads, red buttons.
  • Fix a couple of leaves on the trunk - only small and neat ones.
  • In a pot, pour the cut threads from the yarn, to match the crown. They will imitate an autumn carpet. You can also put miniature bumps and acorns there.
  • At the foot of such a tree, a small pumpkin can also appear, as another attribute of the autumn atmosphere.

As appetite comes with eating, so here - inspiration can come during work. You can complicate the master class with your own hands by adding different decor - bugs, dried flowers, artificial moss, etc.

How to make rose leaf topiary

Topiary from autumn leaves can turn into a bouquet of roses. How, you ask, and just as easy as the previous master class.

How to make such flowers? Again, dry leaves will have to be abandoned, leaves treated with glycerin look more aesthetically pleasing.

But for making roses with your own hands you need:

  • You need to fold the maple leaf in half so that the front side is outside.
  • The leaf is rolled into a roll, this will be the core of future roses.
  • Around the first roll, you need to line up the petals row by row. This time, the front should be inside.
  • Bend half of the leaf away from you. The fold line should be about a centimeter above the core roll.
  • Bend the sheet outward again without smoothing the fold line. The roll is wrapped on both sides.
  • This is how all rose petals are made. Below, at the base of the flower, they are fixed with threads. And this is how every rose is done.

If, nevertheless, you decide to use dry leaves for the craft, then after work sprinkle them with hairspray. When the rosebuds are dry, they won't crumble or break. Just spray the maple rose buds thoroughly, sparing no varnish.

The buds on the base of the crown are attached to the glue with a heat gun. Such a tree must be done very carefully with your own hands so as not to deform the elements.

Crafts from roses are not only topiary. More than one master class is devoted to bouquets of flowers, decorations, additional decor for other works.

Topiary fell in love with many needlewomen. Miniature trees of happiness are made from different materials. They can be made in various techniques and with any design. One of these products is the autumn leaf topiary. It can be made using decorative elements on the theme of autumn or from natural materials.

All trees of happiness consist of a trunk, crown and base. Having decorated every detail and combining into one product, you can get a beautiful and bright decor that will cheer you up and will be suitable as a gift. To create an autumn topiary with your own hands, you will need the following materials:

Other base materials

If for some reason it is not possible to purchase a foam base, then you can make it yourself. You can use construction foam as a base. To do this, squeeze out a sufficient amount of foam, and then cut it off with a knife, giving it the shape of a ball.

Another option, which is the cheapest, is plain paper wrapped in yarn. It needs to be crumpled into a ball and fixed with threads. If this option seems too frivolous, then the ball can be made from regular foam. To do this, you need to take several pieces of it, glue them together, and then cut off the shape in the form of a ball. So you can make a ball of the required diameter without spending a lot of money on it.

Manufacturing process

The process itself is not particularly difficult, so you can involve children in it. DIY topiary from leaves step by step:

Tip: to make the tree look neat, the leaves can be cut in half. Then they will not stand for other elements, and the whole tree will look neat.

The formation of the crown should begin with the largest elements. These can be artificial fruits or balls made from sisal. Smear decorative elements with glue and attach to the base ... It is better to start decorating from the top of the head:

  1. Small parts, such as rowan branches or artificial grapes, must first be divided into fragments. It is better to do this with nippers.
  2. Fill in the voids with maple leaves and decorative twigs. At this stage, the main task is to fill the crown of the tree so that the base is not visible.
  3. After the crown is formed, you can start decorating the bottom of the composition. Here you can use leaves and natural moss, which must be glued to hot glue.

Topiary of autumn roses

In addition to various decorative elements, maple leaves folded in the form of roses can be used for such a product.

To make such roses, you need yellowed maple leaves. It is not very difficult to make such an element with your own hands, it is enough to understand the principle of their manufacture. For work you will need:

  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • Maple leaves.

To create the middle of the rose, take the darkest leaf and fold it in half. Then you need to twist it into a tube. You will get the middle of the rose. To prevent this part from unwinding, you need to fix the element with a thread that does not need to be cut.

The next leaf is used to create a rose petal. It needs, like the previous one, to be bent in half and wrap the previous element. The right and left edges of the sheet must be folded inward.

We place the subsequent leaves around the already collected ones. With each new sheet, you need to wrap the previous ones in order to get new rows.

The next row of leaves should be laid more loosely than the previous one. When making such a rose, the leaves must be laid at the same height, otherwise the shape will not work. When all the leaves are laid, the thread must be fixed to the stem and cut off. It will be good to walk along the thread with thermal glue, then it will definitely not come loose.

To collect topiary from maple leaves with your own hands, you need to prepare several such elements. They will need to be glued to the base first. Then, various natural materials must be glued over the entire surface of the base. This can be a mountain ash, a fragment of pine branches, or small cones. All parts are attached in such a way that there are no voids. The crown of the tree should have a round shape, so the details need to be positioned thoughtfully.

Such a topiary will not last long, but it will have time to cheer up its owner or decorate a room on a rainy autumn day.

The tree of happiness for the teacher

Every year, when sending a child to school, many parents think about what to give to the teacher in order to distinguish a gift from the general mass of presents. A tree of happiness, decorated with school attributes, can be a great option. For decoration, you will need colored pencils, figures in the form of beeches and numbers, and other school decor elements.

The crown of such a tree is made according to the same principle as other similar products. You must first glue the large elements, and then decorate the remaining space with smaller and more airy details.

The peculiarity of this tree is in its lower part. The pot will be decorated with colored pencils and a school-themed decorative ribbon. For such a decor, you need to choose a container that has straight sides, without a slope. This is so that the pencils can firmly press against the surface. They need to paste over the entire perimeter of the pot. To complete the pot of colored pencils, you can wrap it with colored tape.

Colored letters of different diameters will look good on the crown of a tree. The bottom of the topiary needs to be decorated with sisal and a few maple leaves should be glued.

A tree of happiness made from maple leaves is a great way to decorate a room. in the autumn. It is not so difficult to make it, and the bright colors of such a decor will surely bring positive emotions to everyone around you.

Topiary is a kind of eco-decor that can serve as an excellent element of your interior, as well as an original gift to family and friends. Such a craft can be done at any time of the year using various materials. For people who love handicrafts, this word is no longer new. The master class "Topiary from autumn leaves" is presented to your attention.

We all know that autumn is very rich in natural materials, and especially in a variety of leaves. But before you start making the "Tree of Happiness" from dry leaves of trees, you need to dry the leaves. There are several ways to dry the leaves: put them in a book or magazine, the second way is to put the leaf on an ironing board, cover with a sheet of white paper and iron a little with an iron.

This method will dry the leaves much faster than the first, but if you think it over in advance, there will be no problems with this.

Topiary can be from maple leaves and even combined - from leaves and cones, acorns.

Tree of happiness

The master class "Topiary from autumn leaves" is presented to your attention. In it you will learn how to make such a miracle for decoration with your own hands.

Before starting work, you need to read the materials which we will be using in today's master class:

  • scissors;
  • newspapers, napkins or plain paper;
  • glue (super glue, glue gun);
  • wood stick or pencil (it all depends on the size of your tree);
  • a container for a tree (a yogurt cup, a pot, the bottom of a plastic bottle);
  • wide scotch tape;
  • dry tree leaves (maple leaves make a good craft);
  • gypsum;
  • satin ribbons, beads, stones.

When you have stocked up on everything you need, you can start working.

Let's prepare the pot for use. After you select the desired container (it can be a yogurt glass, a pot, the bottom of a plastic bottle), you have the right to decorate it. You can use paint, nail polish to paint the pot, or use ribbons and pebbles to paste over the outer surface (you can choose the colors, sizes, shape of the materials yourself).

When the appearance of our pot is much more attractive than before, you can follow on.

Let's prepare the base. As for the base that will hold the tree trunk, here you can choose any assembly mixture (cement-sand mortar, putty, gypsum or alabaster) or the same floral foam / foam.

If you prefer the first option, then we recommend using alabaster. It is available, you can buy it at any building materials store, it divorces easily and does not crack.

Instructions for using alabaster:

To fill 1 container with alabaster, you will need about 300-400 g of the mixture and about 1.5 glasses of water. Stir the solution for a few minutes. As soon as the mixture thickens to the consistency of thick sour cream, pour it into a container, then install the barrel and hold it in an even position for 2-3 minutes. Leave the mixture to dry for 12-24 hours.

If you use gypsum, then its consistency should resemble thick sour cream, and the drying time for such material should be 30-35 minutes.

Next, you need to prepare the very crown of the tree. You can use plain paper, newspaper, and even napkins. You need to crumple the paper so that you get a smooth ball, and so that it does not unfold, we will firmly fix it with wide tape. When the crown is ready, you need to make a small hole for the future trunk of our tree.

Preparing dry leaves for decoration. In order to properly fix the leaves on the crown of the tree, we will use a glue gun (working with it requires extreme care).

The leaves can be arranged on top of each other, make all kinds of compositions that your imagination and soul desires. Here are photos that you can use when making wood. You can also add touches such as beads and pebbles.

The final stage is the manufacture of the trunk of our tree. Any wood stick can be used as a trunk: a strong branch (pre-dried), a simple pencil, knitting needle, sushi sticks or a wooden stick (the height of the trunk may be different, depending on the height of the pot, the diameter of the ball and your wishes about the height of the product). If you don't like the initial appearance of the trunk, then you can wrap it with ribbons, harnesses, or simply paint it with paint (nail polish).

Walking in the park or in the forest, most people do not even suspect that right under their feet you can find a lot of material for all sorts of beautiful crafts, including topiary. The leaves of different trees: both spring green and golden-red in autumn, and cones are idle at every step. So we go out into nature to collect material for a new creation.

In order to make an autumn topiary, a master class is simply necessary. Not everyone knows how to handle such natural material, especially if it is dry autumn leaves. You can see the photos of the finished works below.

1st MK for the manufacture of topiary from autumn leaves

So, the first MK will work with fresh foliage, and the second will work with dry foliage.

Preparation of material for work

  • Newspapers, threads, napkins and PVA glue to create a base.
  • Branch for the trunk.
  • Twine for decorating the trunk and stand.
  • Thermal gun.
  • Maple autumn "fresh" leaves and artificial berries. They are needed to create a crown.
  • Container for stand and plaster of paris, as well as artificial or natural grass.
  • Satin ribbon for decoration.

Creation of the basis for the crown of the topiary

So, for the base, you need to take a large number of newspapers and, superimposing one on top of the other, form a ball. For better fixing of the form, you need to wrap the base with threads.

Now you need to take any napkins and tear them into small pieces. We apply PVA glue to the base and glue it with napkins. This is necessary in order for the ball to take a more regular shape. It is best to stick several layers of napkins. The best option is to leave the balloon to dry overnight.

Making a trunk for a decorative tree

For the trunk, you can take Chinese sticks and, connecting them together, wrap with any suitable material. Or take any stick that fits. This mk uses a regular branch. It needs to be greased with PVA glue, wrapped with twine and allowed to dry well.

Assembling the topiary

In the ball, which we prepared in advance for the base of the topiary, you need to make a cut in the form of a cross. Put hot glue on the top of the barrel and insert into the base, press down a little. Also seal the edges of the cut with a heat gun.

Autumn tree decoration

Now the most interesting stage begins - the decoration of the topiary. To do this, take any carnation, make a hole in the base. You need to drop a drop of hot glue into it and insert a leaf inside. Continue sticking the leaves further as you like. In addition, artificial berries can be glued. Or whatever you like best.

Making a stand

The last stage remains - the stand. For it, you can take any suitable container that is suitable in shape and volume. This can be a small bucket, a mug, or a flower pot. Next, you need to pour gypsum into your container, and as soon as it begins to thicken, insert the topiary there directly into the center. Now commit.

Once the solution has frozen a little, you can tackle the stand. Take artificial or real grass and place it directly on the plaster cast. We decorate the pot itself with twine. To keep it tight, glue it with a heat gun every 4 cm. Take a satin ribbon and tie it in a bow around the base. Or, for example, stick miniature artificial leaves on the pot. Here is such a wonderful topiary made from maple leaves.

2nd MK - creating topiary from dry leaves

Of course, it is much more difficult to work with dry leaves than with ordinary ones. But nothing is impossible in the world of creativity! From this mk, with the help of detailed instructions and photos, you will learn how to do it correctly.

Material preparation

  • Wire: one thick and two thin. And also corrugated paper: pink, green and gold.
  • Container for a stand, gypsum and potassium permanganate.
  • Scotch tape, thread, newspapers and colored paper for the printer.
  • Dry flowers and rosettes from leaves, harvested earlier.
  • Thermal gun.
  • Beads and wrapping paper for decoration.

Creating a trunk for topiary

Take three wires 25-30 cm long. Use corrugated paper to wrap the wire. This example uses three colors of paper: pink, green, and gold. Drop glue on the ends of each of the colored strips, then the paper will hold better.

Use duct tape to hold all three wires together, and then wrap the pink and green wires around the golden one.

Preparing the stand

In this lesson, a translucent purple decanter is used as a stand. Therefore, gypsum mixed with potassium permanganate is used here as a filler. It turns out to be a very beautiful shade.

While the mixture is still warm, pour it into a decanter.

Now insert the already finished wire barrel inside.

Creation of the base and crown of the tree

It was the turn of the foundation for the topiary. Take newspapers and colored printing paper and make a ball out of them. In order for the shape of the future crown to be more correct, wrap the figure with tape, and then with threads.

Now you can start creating the crown. In addition to roses made from dry leaves of trees, dried flowers are also used here. Roses from leaves and flowers must be prepared in advance from fresh materials, since dry they will break and nothing will come of it. Most often, these flowers are made from maple leaves.

Let's continue to decorate the topiary. Use a heat gun to glue dried flowers and leaf roses to the base. You can also use wrapping paper balls.

Glue the entire base and attach a square of wrapping paper in the place where it will be attached to the trunk. Next, make a small hole and drip hot glue inside. Place the ball on the trunk of the topiary and press down gently.

The final touches remain. Decorate the crown with small beads and make a pattern of small roses on the decanter. That's it, the topiary of dry leaves and flowers is ready!

Of course, the natural materials from which to make ornamental trees are not limited to leaves and flowers. It can be nuts, acorns, or, for example, cones. Below are some works from leaves and cones.

Here's an eco-composition.

Advice for needleworkers:
Flowers from autumn leaves will stand and please the eye, but after a couple of days, the leaves will start to dry. They will take on a different look, no less beautiful, but different. Therefore, for those who want to keep the flowers in their almost original form, there is a piece of advice: as soon as you make your roses from the leaves, cover them with varnish (just don't use nail or hair varnish under any circumstances). Parquet or plastic varnish works well. You can also paint the roses with acrylic varnish and then they will always be the way you want them.
