We choose threads. I often knit from the Turkish angora "Alize special" in 2 threads, knitting needles No. 1.5 or 2, but you may have other threads, the main thing is that they do not shed during washing and are of the same thickness (if one thread is thinner, then it will be lost in the picture.)

Let's start knitting. After a set of loops, we begin to knit a cuff.

I have been knitting mittens for about 10 years and came to the conclusion that when knitting cuffs in this way, mittens hold better on the hand, there are more design options than when knitting a regular elastic band. I knit with thin knitting needles No. 2, 1.5, so you can have your own calculation of loops.

The holes in the fold are obtained by knitting: 2 loops together (front) and 1 yarn; in the next row - knit yarn over. It turns out neatly, you can tie the underturn by picking up sequentially 1 loop from 1 row and the last knitting them together in turn or then hem with a needle and thread.
1. Cast on 56 (60) sts - multiple of 4.

1 row: knit purl loop in one color, knit the next purl with the second color. Repeat in turn, while twisting the threads in one direction, for example, upwards "away from you".

So that the "Step" does not work out when moving to the next row.

2nd row: place the colors on top of each other (to match). We knit the wrong loop with the first color, the second loop with the wrong second color. In this case, the twisting of the thread should go in the direction opposite to the first row "towards you".

If in the first row the twisting of the thread went up, then in the second row it went down.

3 row - we knit with facial loops.
4 row - add the required number of loops for the selected ornament.

If I cast on 56 (60) loops on the cuff, then 72 (76) on the main pattern
On the right and left mittens, you can change the direction of the pigtail.
