New Year is one of the most fun holidays, miracles happen on New Year. How are you having fun on New Year's Eve? - Solve riddles. The host asks one riddle about a masquerade with an answer - a rhyme, for example:

Each had an outfit.
Did our... (masquerade).

Everyone has new faces
Loud children's laughter is heard
Hats, paper dresses,
There are wooden swords
Like a fairytale parade
This holiday ... (masquerade).

3 masked children (samples) come out and recite poems. Parents must guess their children.

1st child:

Colorful, bright, noisy
New Year's masquerade
And a funny costume
And happy mask happy.

2nd child:

From funny transformations
The world becomes different:
Kind, fabulously magical,
Witty and funny.

3rd child:

New Year's carnival
Hiding faces with masks
And in masquerade costumes
Danced all evening!

The host tells the story of the carnival: « Carnival as a kind of folk festival with street processions and theatrical games lives in many countries. The main attributes of any carnival are costumes and masks that help hide social differences and equalize everyone for the duration of the festival. In Russia, dressing up and having fun in masks was allowed only on Christmas and Maslenitsa. The initiator of masquerades in Russia was Peter I - a passionate lover of dressing up. In 1721, a magnificent street costume procession was arranged. You can not only buy a mask in a store, but also make it yourself from a variety of materials: paper, leather, fabric, papier-mâché. Adults and children are looking at samples of masks. We invite you to make a mask today. Try to create your own masterpiece. And let the flight of your creative imagination help you.

The facilitator explains the mask manufacturing technology:

Step 1. We draw the contours of the mask on cardboard. Or outline the mask template. Cut out.

Step 2 We mark the holes for the eyes, cut them out.

Step 3 We decorate the base of the mask with decorative material.

Step 4 We attach an elastic band or ribbon to the carnival mask.

The host of the master class reminds children and adults of safety rules when working with scissors:

  1. Blades of scissors in non-working condition must be closed (closed).
  2. Pass the scissors with the rings forward with closed (closed) blades.
  3. Scissors must be used carefully, they must not be waved so as not to injure a neighbor.

2. The main part of the master class. Practical work on making a New Year's mask. Product design. The hardest part is over and our masks are almost ready. Let's leave the masks, let them dry a little.

The host conducts a physical education session for children.

Here in the cold winter
The wind blows icy
(Children wave their hands, imitating the wind)
And he lifts up a cloud of snow.
He is tough and powerful.
(Children perform circular movements with their hands like a winter whirlwind)
Hares hide in the bushes.
Even the cunning fox
(Children sit in a deep squat for a few seconds, then stand up. As if they are bunnies that are hiding from a fox)
She crouched and sits
Well, the snow is flying, flying.
(Children perform hand movements, showing snow falling)
But the evil blizzard subsided,
The sun is shining in the sky.
(Stretching - arms to the sides.)
A fox gallops across the field.
(Jumping.)
Well, we'll walk a little
(Walking.)
And we will return home.
(The children sit at the tables.)

And now the most interesting thing is that we will start decorating our carnival masks. There are many ways to decorate masks - it all depends on your imagination and sleight of hand, the most popular way to decorate a mask is to stick various accessories. As decorations, you can use everything that lies in front of you on the tables.

3. The final part of the creative workshop:

  • Collective analysis of creative works
  • Workplace cleaning.

The host thanks the children and adults. Useful advice: it will be good at the end of the master class to arrange a real carnival with New Year's music, play together, dance.

  • 20-30 centimeters of black organza or velvet ribbon;
  • two large crystals;
  • thread and needle;
  • 4-6 small feathers;
  • glue that holds the fabric well, or a glue gun.

Making a mask

Step by step instructions for making a mask with feathers
  • Step 1. Take a piece of lace guipure. Measure the length necessary for the future mask to sit comfortably on your face (15-18 centimeters). Cut off a piece, being careful to keep the lace pattern intact. Prepare two identical parts (these are the upper and lower halves of the future mask).
  • Step 2. Cut semi-ovals on the inner parts of the guipure, trying to make the holes match when connecting the upper and lower parts of the mask. Do not try to cut as much fabric as possible at once. First, try on the workpiece, holding the pieces of guipure with your hands, and then, if necessary, deepen the cuts. Leave the middle, which will fall at the level of the bridge of the nose, untouched.
  • Step 3 Connect the top and bottom of the mask. Glue the temporal parts and the bridge of the nose on the inside of the product with glue or a mass from a hot glue gun. Let the mask dry.
  • Step 4. Cut off the excess lace at the bottom of the mask so that it ends at the highest point of the cheekbone. Otherwise, you will be uncomfortable wearing your product during the evening.
  • Step 5. Connect 2-3 feathers into a bundle, folding them like a fan. Make two identical elements. Attach rhinestones or crystals to the front of the feathers. Glue feathers on the sides of the mask to simulate cat ears. If the feathers are not pointed, but slightly rounded, you will get a panther mask. By experimenting with the shape, you can also make a bird mask, such as an owl mask.
  • Step 6 Measure the circumference of your head. Cut two pieces of organza or velvet ribbon, adding about 10 centimeters to the measurement, to tie the half mask into a beautiful bow.
  • Step 7. Sew on the ribbon ties on the inside, approximately in the place where the temple is.

Idea #4: Mask with paper buds

Try to make a New Year's mask from corrugated colored paper

The mask of rich purple color will be the subject of close attention of others, because the delicate buds covering it make this carnival accessory a real piece of art. If you wish, you can use a different shade of paper that matches the tone of your dress better. The master class assumes the presence of such items:

  • a base mask made from papier-mâché, a cardboard mask, or a regular plastic half mask, which can be bought at a craft store;
  • thin corrugated paper;
  • glue;
  • glue gun;
  • scissors;
  • feathers dyed to match the paper;
  • satin ribbons.

Making a mask

Step-by-step instructions for making a mask from buds
  • Step 1. Expand a sheet of corrugated paper, mark it into equal strips 7-8 centimeters wide. The length of each strip should be 30-35 centimeters. Prepare 25-30 strips for work and fold them in half lengthwise.
  • Step 2. Twist the paper strips as shown in the photo. In the process of folding the bud, gradually turn the paper strip 180 0. After the next turn, glue the bud in one or two places so that it keeps its shape better.
  • Step 3. Take the mask. Apply a little mass from the glue gun on its surface and glue the rosebuds, trying to fill the base as tightly as possible.
  • Step 4. On one side of the mask, attach a bunch of fluffy feathers to make a plume.
  • Step 5. Measure the girth of the head, cut off two pieces of braid or ribbon, adding 6-8 centimeters to the measurements. Attach the tape to the mask and let the product dry.

Idea number 5: Mosaic mask from broken toys

A handmade mosaic mask will look just as good as a store bought one!

Every time we take out boxes from cabinets and mezzanines, we have to sort out Christmas decorations and separate the broken ones from the whole ones. Of course, every broken ball is a cause for frustration. Many of the decorations are dear to us as a memory of the holidays spent with the family. But you can give broken toys a second chance by decorating a carnival mask with a mirror mosaic. To make such an accessory, you will need:

  • a plastic mask from the store or a mask made from papier-mâché;
  • several glass balls of matching shades;
  • thick cloth or towel;
  • feathers, rhinestones;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers;
  • braid;
  • glue gun.

Making a mask

  • Step 1 Remove the fasteners from the broken balls.
  • Step 2. Wrap the toys in a thick cloth and tap with a hammer, breaking the balls into small fragments.
  • Step 3. Unfold the fasteners with pliers, place on a hard surface and, if necessary, tap a little with a hammer until you get flat pieces.
  • Step 4. Glue the resulting elements on the top of the mask and on the sides. Place a sparkling crystal or sequins in the center of each circle.
  • Step 5. Unfold the towel with fragments, apply a little mass from the glue gun to the mask. Glue pieces of glass, leaving small gaps (so the pattern will look more like a mosaic pattern).
  • Step 6. Decorate one of the side parts of the mask with a fluffy feather.
  • Step 7. Measure the girth of the head, cut off two pieces of braid or ribbon, adding 6-8 centimeters to the measurements. Attach the tape to the mask and let the product dry.

Idea #6: Papier-mâché Mask

A carefully primed and painted papier-mâché mask, adorned with crystals or sequins, will be indistinguishable from a store bought one!

Plastic masks that you can buy in stores do not always satisfy us with their quality or convenience, because each face has its own anatomical features. We invite you to learn how to make papier-mâché masks! Firstly, such masks can be made individually for each family member - from a grandmother to a small child. And secondly, you can always prepare for an unexpected costume party, if you suddenly do not find a ready-made plastic base for making a mask in the store.

By the way, papier-mache masks win in comparison with ordinary cardboard masks. Well, the manufacturing process itself is so simple that you can safely connect the smallest members of the family to it. Before you start making a mask, make sure you have the following list of items at home:

  • petroleum jelly (or any fatty glycerin cream);
  • toilet paper (can be replaced with napkins)
  • newspaper sheets;
  • scissors;
  • Wheat flour;
  • water;
  • brushes;
  • paints;
  • PVA glue.

Making a mask

  • Step 1. Prepare a paste. To do this, pour a glass of water into a saucepan, place on fire and boil. Measure out a glass of flour, add 3-4 tablespoons of cold water to it, mixing the ingredients thoroughly. Put the mass in boiling water, stir and let cool.
  • Step 2. Add 3-4 tablespoons of PVA glue to the mass.
  • Step 3. Cut newspaper sheets and toilet paper (napkins) into small pieces, or simply tear them apart by hand.
  • Step 4. Thoroughly lubricate the face of the model for making the mask with a layer of petroleum jelly or glycerin cream.
  • Step 5. Fill the bowl with water. Moisten a piece of newspaper, stick on the nose, cheeks, forehead, chin. Continue manipulations until the entire face is covered with a layer of wet pieces of newspaper. Try to lay out the pieces overlapping so that there are no gaps.
  • Step 6 Dip a piece of newspaper into the paste, glue over the first layer and continue until a new mask layer is ready.
  • Step 7. Continue alternating layers of napkins and newspapers smeared with paste. In total, they need to be made from 5 to 7. Count so that the last layer consists of chopped napkins. Dry the resulting mask a little with a hair dryer.
  • Step 8. Carefully remove the workpiece from the face of the model, place it closer to the radiator or heater so that it dries and hardens.
  • Step 9. Cut off the protruding edges or uneven pieces with sharp scissors. Make slits for the ribbons.
  • Step 10 Paint the mask the color of your choice and decorate as you like.
