I knitted this warm (thanks to the yarn and the compressed pattern) sleeveless jacket for my one-year-old granddaughter Sasha, her SIZE is 80/86, so next winter he will still vilify it (I hope).

By the way, the same viscous one is also loved by many.

For knitting a sleeveless jacket for a child, I used:

  • 150 g (1.5 skein) of semi-woolen sectional yarn in the color of Super Excellence gray melange of the MAGIC trademark (100 grams - 228 m);
  • knitting needles # 3 and # 4;
  • stocking needles No. 3.

Now this yarn is no longer produced, but if I had come across Alpaca Royal yarn from ALIZE (250 m / 100 g), I would have taken it without hesitation (you can click on the link and get to know this yarn better).

For finishing the bottom of the sleeveless jacket, the armholes and the neckline, I picked up a garter stitch - it is most suitable for the "Large cells" pattern, thanks to the removed loops of which the sleeveless jacket turned out to be dense and warm, but not at all stiff.

How to knit a sleeveless jacket for a baby

Knitting back

On the needles number 3, we collect 62 loops and knit 5 rows, evenly adding 10 loops in the last row (on the needles - 72 loops).

To do this, on both sides, first close 4 loops, then in every second row, 1 time, 2 loops, 1 time, 1 loop, on the needles - 58 loops. Then we continue to knit until the back length is 33 cm.

After that, to form the neckline, we close the middle 18 loops, and then on both sides to round the neckline we close in each second row, first 3 loops, then 2, and then 1 loop (14 loops remain on the knitting needles for each shoulder).

Do not close the shoulder loops and move on to knitting the front of the sleeveless jacket.

Knitting front

Before we start knitting in the same way as the back, only in the "Large cells" pattern after the 2nd row, I began to knit from the 11th, not from the 3rd row, so that when performing the side seams, the joining of the "pieces" of the cell looks prettier ...

We carry out the armhole as we did when knitting the back. After 2 cm from the armhole line, we knit 2 middle loops together and reshoot this loop on a pin, after which we finish both sides of the V-shaped cut separately.

In this case, in every second row we will close 1 loop from the inner edge until 14 loops remain on the needles. After that, we simply tie both sides to the height of the back. We also do not close the shoulder loops.

Backrest to front connection

Fold the front and back of the sleeveless jacket with the front side inward. On the additional knitting needle we reshoot, alternating one by one, 14 loops of the back shoulder and 14 loops of the front shoulder, on the knitting needle - 28 loops.

We close the shoulder loops, pre-knitting 2 loops together with the front one. We do the same with the loops of the second shoulder.

With this method of connecting the back and front, the lines of the shoulder are smooth and almost invisible.

Tying the neck of the tank top

With stocking needles # 3, we collect 113 loops along the neckline (42 loops - from the back, 35 loops each - the neckline, 1 loop - from a pin) and start knitting on the front side:

  • 1st circular row -front loops;
  • 2nd circular row - purl, knitting on 2 loops together purl every 5 stitches and 3 loops together purl - in the toe of the V-neck;
  • 3rd circular row - front loops;
  • 4th circular row - purl, as in the second circular row;
  • 5th circular row - front loops;
  • 6th circular row - purl, knitting together the purl only 3 loops of the cape;
  • in the 7th circular row - we do not close the remaining ones 78 stitches.

Tying sleeveless armholes

On the armhole of one sleeve, we collect 60 loops and knit 6 rows in garter stitch, while knitting in the 6th row 3 times 2 loops together with the front one (at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the row) so that the garter stitch edging does not bulge out so much ...

In the 7th row, we close all 57 loops. We also make out the second armhole.
