DIY Christmas napkin rings. Napkin rings: DIY clip. More natural materials for rings

A beautiful home holiday is not only about delicious dishes according to your favorite recipes. Pay attention to the table setting. One of the dainty accessories is napkin rings. The tradition appeared at a time when there were a lot of guests at the table and, in order not to confuse their devices with strangers, they put rings on napkins. Now these items complement the style and speak of the good taste of the owner of the house. For those passionate about handicrafts, there are ideas inspiring to make do-it-yourself napkin rings.

Materials for work

Napkin holders are a ring made of wood, metal, cardboard or plastic, decorated with decorative elements. Materials for manufacturing will require a little:

  • scraps of fabric;
  • skin;
  • tapes;
  • lace;
  • natural materials;
  • beads.

Everything will go into action. How it will adhere to the napkin depends on the density and diameter of the base.

Napkin rings made of cardboard and plastic:

  1. A rigid base for rings on napkins with their own hands is made from cardboard or a plastic bottle.
  2. The material is cut into strips and glued together.
  3. The sharp edges of the plastic are melted with a hot iron. The neat ring is ready to be decorated.
  4. Cover it with fabric, hiding the edges on the wrong side, decorate with ribbons and choose an interesting decor.

Important! Instead of fabric, take a narrow satin braid and wrap around the piece. Secure the ends with double-sided tape and the ring is ready.

Wire Napkin Rings:

  1. For the frame, a regular or shape-retaining memory wire is taken.
  2. A piece is cut off so that it wraps the napkin for 2-3 turns.
  3. A neat loop is made at the tip so that the beads do not fall apart. Stringed beads, bugles, pendants.
  4. Having given the shape of a spiral, the second end of the wire is closed with a loop.

Important! To create a festive set in the same style, decorate candlesticks and vases with flowers with the same beads and wire.

More ideas

DIY napkin rings are good because they can be quickly made from available materials.

Paper

Use origami to make paper napkin holders. Or decorate an empty paper towel holder in a decoupage style:

  1. Use a sharp knife to cut the coil into 3-5 cm rings.
  2. Sand the edges with fine sandpaper.
  3. Paint with white acrylic paint.
  4. Stick a patterned paper napkin on the blank.
  5. Cover the decoupage with a layer of acrylic varnish.

Important! Match a napkin with a pattern to match the textiles to create a serving set.

Textile

For decoration, take a satin fabric with glitter. But ordinary burlap, complemented by lace, looks exquisite. This master class will show you how to make napkin rings with your own hands from a matting.

Prepare:

  • a piece of burlap,
  • wide lace,
  • thin twine.

Operating procedure:

  1. Sew a piece of burlap into the tube, leaving the edges unworked.
  2. Cutting off the lace, wrap a piece of matting with it and sew it neatly, hiding the seam from the inside out.
  3. Decorate with a twine bow.

Important! Complete the set with burlap and lace napkins.

Beads and beads

The napkin holder does not have to be firm and tight. Assemble a thin elastic bracelet with strung beads.

Important! From beads, you can weave a short bauble for a napkin or decorate a finished ring with it.

Natural materials

Acorns, cones, twigs, shells and fresh flowers look great with textiles and are suitable for themed seasonal festivities.

Important! Combine materials:

  • seashells - with jute fabric;
  • cones - with satin ribbons;
  • acorns and twigs - with knitted lace.

Thread

DIY napkin rings, crocheted from thin threads, look cute:

  1. Take the round ring from the bag.
  2. Crochet it.
  3. Starch to keep the lace in shape.

Important! A simpler option is a strip knitted with a scarf stitch, decorated with a large button.

Festive table

Napkin holders are a festive attribute. They should look harmoniously with serving and other table decorations. Decorations made from natural materials are suitable for linen napkins. Thread thin paper napkins into massive rings. Match the colors of the clamps to the plates or play with contrast.

Important! Before making do-it-yourself napkin rings, consider the design and compatibility with the main table design.

New Year

For a traditional New Year's table, suitable colors would be:

  • blue with white;
  • red with green;
  • gold and silver.

Napkins can be folded in the classic way or fanned through rings.

Important! Use cones, artificial spruce branches, bells, scrap cards, dried orange slices for decoration.

Wedding table

Use napkin holders as guest numbers. Sign the tags and attach them to the rings, decorate lavishly with flowers, ribbons and beads.

Important! Choose colors for your wedding and invitation cards.

How to quickly make rings for napkins on a wedding table with your own hands, this master class will tell you.

Take:

  • wooden base,
  • self-hardening polymer clay,
  • blade,
  • toothpicks,
  • second glue.

The order of the creative process:

  1. Roll a sausage out of polymer clay. Cut it into equal pieces.
  2. Crush the pieces of plastic between your fingers. Shape a rosebud on a toothpick and glue it over with petals.
  3. Cut the flower from the base and dry. Make 5-15 more colors, depending on the size of the napkin ring.
  4. Stick roses on the ring.
  5. Cover the workpiece with varnish.

Classic serving

On a traditional European table, napkins are placed on the left hand or on a plate. Napkin holders are decorated with rhinestones, satin fabric, braid.

Important! The decoration must be laconic, not distracting the guest from the table and beautiful table setting.

Shabby chic table

Vintage pieces, shabby chic and delicate colors are the hallmarks of this style. Decorate the clips with old brooches, lace, paper roses and buttons.

Important! No synthetics, choose only natural fabrics.

Everything on the table should be not only tasty, but also beautiful. And it is not at all necessary to wait for the holiday! Napkins, for example, are always needed, so why not decorate them with handmade rings? Quartblog has collected 10 master classes of different difficulty levels: from simple bead rings to real flowers.

1. Do-it-yourself napkin rings from toilet paper rolls

A great example of the recycling of materials.

Complexity: 1

Materials (edit): toilet paper rolls, twine, glue, ready-made flowers, beads and beads.

You can experiment with the fabric: perhaps linen napkins with a rough texture will look even more interesting than just white ones. By the way, if you choose pastel-colored flowers, take a dense ribbon lace instead of twine, and pre-paint the sleeve to match the lace, you get rings in the shabby chic style.

2. Wire rings

Interesting and simple rings that will suit almost any setting if you change the wire and stone.

Complexity: 2

Materials (edit): wire, stones, thin pliers (with an elongated "nose"), something oval of a suitable diameter (to wind the wire).

3. Name rings

These are supposed to be Thanksgiving rings, but they actually come in handy for any occasion when there are a lot of people around the table.

Complexity: 1

Materials (edit): raffia (natural fiber from palm leaves) or jute, wooden tags, chalk or special marker, paint on which you can write with chalk.

You can tie small scrolls with wishes or phantoms to raffia, if the holiday is for children.

4. Bead rings

This is a Christmas master class, but again the idea is universal.

Complexity: 1

Materials (edit): wooden beads, wire, ribbon.

And again, we suggest trying different versions of the design: for example, stringing not ordinary beads, but tied or metal beads. If you take letter beads, you get funny name rings.

5. Rings with natural flowers

Complexity: 2

Materials (edit): scissors, flowers, teip tape (floristic tape).

You don't need to be a professional florist to make napkin rings with miniature bouquets. On the Weddingbee blog you will find step-by-step photo instructions and a description if you read in English. Here, too, you can give free rein to imagination and make different bouquets for each guest.

6. Shabby chic ring

Complexity: 1

Materials (edit): rings (wood or plastic), paper or fabric flowers and leaves, round base.

It's easy to do, but it's better to think over the composition in advance: try on and apply elements until it turns out the way you want. Try to glue an angel instead of a flower and sew a few small pearl beads to the lace for a festive option.

7. Aluminum rings

This lesson is already more complicated, although neat needlewomen will cope with it.

Complexity: 3

Materials (edit): thin sheets of aluminum (but thicker than foil), paper, glue, shaped hole punch that can work with metal.

8. Delicate rings

Rings made on the principle of "nothing more".

Complexity: 1

Materials (edit): lace, wide jute braid, threads, glue, pins, thin and thick paper.

If your napkins are thicker than shown, you can use toilet paper rolls. The base of braid and lace will also look interesting with fresh flowers - try to combine two master classes.

Complexity: 3

Materials (edit): wool for felting, needles for felting, felt, threads, real acorn hats, floral cord, braid.

Of course, felting with wool is not so easy, but very pleasant. Small, dense acorns are what you need for training. When you learn, try felting, for example, strawberries - you get summer rings.

Go for it! And may patience be with you!

When we prepare for the arrival of guests, we always want to give them a warm welcome. So I want to surprise the people close to us not only with delicious food, but also with the original table setting. The hostesses take out the most beautiful dishes, prepare their signature dishes and try to give the evening a festive atmosphere as much as possible. Sound familiar? Then, if you, like me, like to surprise guests, then this master class may be useful to you. Today I will show you how you can add brightness and sophistication to your table. We will make napkin rings - a small attribute of the festive table, which will significantly decorate your evening and make the table truly elegant.

Ready to get started?
We will prepare the necessary tools and items:
- cardboard tube
- satin fabric
- glue
- lace
- pencil
- ruler
- scissors
- threads
- needle
- beads
- ribbons for decoration

First you need to decide on the width of the ring. It all depends on your desire, the width can be from 3 to 6-7 cm. I will make 5 cm. We measure 5 cm with a ruler and cut off the ring. It will be more convenient to cut it with a knife, but I cut it with scissors.

We measure a piece of atlas with a length equal to the circumference of the ring + 5 mm for an allowance, and twice as wide as the width of the ring.

With glue Moment Crystal, I glue one edge of the satin on the inside of the ring. This is a little inconvenient to do, but be patient and glue the fabric evenly. Instead of glue Moment, you can use a silicone gun. This, as they say, is as convenient as anyone.

Then I carefully glue the second edge of the fabric to the inside of the ring. If the seam is not very neat, you can glue the tape on top. But this is optional. I do not do this. Here's a ring turned out.

We measure out the lace. Its width is 5 cm, this is exactly what I need, the length is equal to the circumference of the ring + 5 mm for the allowance.

I apply glue pointwise along the edges of the ring from the front side and carefully glue the lace.

Now we need to close the lace seam. To do this, we make a bow from ribbons. I have a chocolate-colored satin, so I'll take a chocolate and cream ribbon. We measure out a piece of chocolate-colored tape equal to 10 cm long. Bend the tape in half, measure the middle and glue the ends of the tape to the fold of the tape.

We do the same with the cream-colored ribbon, but measure it 2 cm shorter so that the bow is smaller.

We glue a white bow on a brown one and sew on a bead with threads. Here is the finished bow.

We glue the bow along the lace joint on the ring. The ring is ready, side view.

There can be a lot of serving options. Here are 2 of them.

And there can be many options for making the rings themselves. It all depends on what exactly you find in the bins at home. For example, here are the rings made according to the same principle as described in the master class, but using a different lace and contrasting bows. The width of the rings is 4 and 3 cm.

These rings are also pasted over with lace, but with a different texture. The ring is pasted over with ribbons under the lace.

We make incredibly beautiful napkin rings with our own hands

With the approach of some holiday, any hostess begins to think over the menu of the feast, the importance of the dishes has not yet been canceled, but the correct serving will add special charm and solemnity to your holiday.

It is difficult year after year to come up with special types of table setting for each holiday, it still turns out to be approximately the same, and you really want to add a touch of variety!

Interestingly played napkins are a great way to decorate a festive table, dilute boring plates and forks with notes of comfort and originality.

The tradition of using napkins at the dining table appeared a long time ago, but it looked a little different than it does now in modern society. The first napkins looked like ordinary tablecloths, which complemented the main one during a meal; it was one common for all guests and hosts.

Only in the 17th century, when people mastered the "forks", the need to use such large napkins disappeared by itself, people began to learn to eat neatly, without getting their hands dirty, and napkins, gradually, began to be transformed into elements for decorating the festive table.

In the 18th century, a certain set of rules even appeared that told about how to use napkins correctly. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, and the tradition of using and decorating with napkins has remained to this day.

And, although nowadays it is not too often possible to find elegantly folded cloth napkins on the festive table, since the majority is given to paper napkins, the mood that they are able to recreate cannot be replaced by anything!

Depending on the significance and solemnity of the event, it is necessary to make a choice in favor of one or another type of napkins. For example, to sit with your family, you can use ordinary paper options, but for a wedding, New Year's table or anniversary, it will not be superfluous to use elegant silk or linen napkins.

In order for them to look presentable on the festive table, they need to be decorated somehow: someone prefers to fold them into unusual figures, but we would like to offer another option - the use of special rings for napkins, which, by the way, are not so difficult to learn how to make do it yourself.

Most often, in this way, strict monochromatic cloth napkins are decorated, wrapping them in such an unusual ring, you can create a truly elegant and harmonious element of the festive table decor.

Usually, such rings are matched to the tone of the tablecloth or other decorative elements, so that a complete and stylish picture of the feast is obtained. Such rings can have a variety of colors, patterns, embroidery elements, appliqués, or even completely remotely resemble the usual napkin rings.

By the way, in the distant past, when such ideas were just beginning to appear, noble and wealthy families acquired whole sets of such rings that could be made of real silver, they were stamped with the family coat of arms, the initials of family members or some kind of abstract patterns.

Where to find such rings now?

Of course, the easiest way is to go and buy a whole set of napkin rings - they are quite common in sales, you can pick up the most interesting and unusual options. Of course, you can buy napkin rings, as I wrote above, but this is not at all interesting for those who like to do needlework, because making such jewelry is not difficult at all, the main thing is to enrich yourself with ideas that will prompt you exactly those options that you would like to see on your festive table.

The indisputable advantage of such creativity is that you can choose the colors, shapes and style of decoration you need, because on sale it is not always possible to find everything that is really needed.

Napkin Rings Ideas

The easiest option, which will take you literally 10 minutes for the entire amount, is to use a regular satin ribbon. Choose the desired tone and wrap a napkin in it, tying it with a cute bow.

You can complicate your life a little, and see in various master classes how complex multi-tiered bows are made, or you can make flowers from a separate ribbon, which are then simply attached to the ribbon.

By the way, these flowers can be made from colored or corrugated paper. To do this, it is enough to use special stencils, which are transferred to paper, cut out, and then assembled into a solid flower.

It should be noted that such voluminous figures are often not inferior even to living flowers, and in fact they will never fade or lose their shape at the most inopportune moment.

By the way, fresh flowers are also used to decorate such rings, the only drawback in this design is that fresh flowers can cost you a pretty penny, and they will not “live” at your banquet for long. But, on the other hand, such decoration, of course, will fully reflect the subtle sense of taste and the wonderful hostess of the banquet.

On the other hand, napkin rings with flowers made of fabric or paper are far from the only interesting and beautiful option for decorating napkins.

For example, you can make interesting options from beads and wire, you get very elegant and unusual elements of festive decoration. It is important to choose the wire to match the serving items; it is necessary that it be tight enough, otherwise it will not keep the shape of a twisted napkin.

Beads are pre-threaded onto the wire and glued in the necessary places. The wire itself is twisted into a spiral, not necessarily strictly symmetrical; creative flaws can be allowed.

Instead of beads, pearls or large beads are sometimes used if, for example, they are more in line with the theme of the festive table. Sometimes whole works of art are screwed onto such wires - butterflies, dragonflies, hearts or other figures woven from beads on a thinner wire.

To create a marine theme for the frame of the ring, you can use thick yarn or twine - they are braided in pigtails, tied into a ring, and then decorated with small shells on top, gluing them onto special glue. Instead of shells, you can use compositions of small cones or spruce branches if, for example, you are preparing for the New Year's table.

But the most common way to create such rings is to use thick cardboard, which can be covered with fabric, decorated with colored paper, or even turned into name cards! To do this, you need to roll up the cardboard with a tube and glue it along the edge so that it does not diverge.

If you want to paste over it with paper and, suppose, write down the names of your guests on them, then the whole rolled cardboard is pasted over with paper, cut into separate rings. To write the names, it is better to use a stencil and print on a printer so that they all turn out to be the same, and then just glue your names to the finished rings.

In order to cover the cardboard rings with a cloth, the prepared tube must be immediately cut into rings, and then each individually covered with cloth. The easiest way is to use ribbons for these purposes, with which it is easy to wrap a ring, and on top, for decoration, you can add contrasting braid or lace.

Good day!

Outside the window, mid-autumn is the most colorful and inspiring time. The color palette, mood and images of autumn cannot leave indifferent any needlewoman. But time is running out fast and it's time to think about the New Year holidays. Stock up in advance with suitable materials and ideas in order to prepare gifts for relatives and friends for the New Year, to please yourself and generally make this holiday unforgettable. And what could be better than a handmade gift - useful, beautiful and wholeheartedly!

Among the variety of New Year's ideas, there are many interesting, original, and most importantly affordable ways to decorate gifts and create festive accessories. Last year, I offered my own version of a simple and quick decoration for a bottle of champagne.

This MK was a huge success on the network, was repeatedly duplicated on various resources in various versions (both with my permission and without), and was also published by the magazine "Ksyusha. For lovers of needlework" (December 10/2012). Thank you all for your attention and kind words, I am glad that it came in handy :)

This year I offer my own version of decorating the New Year's table for inspiration.

It is easy and quick to make such decorative napkin rings, and most importantly, you can use whatever you have at your fingertips. Surely everyone in the far corner has a lot of "treasures", especially in boxes for storing New Year's toys;)

So let's get started! We need the very minimum:

base for ring

hot glue

any jewelry, items, accessories that make you associate with the New Year)

First of all, we decide on the basis for the rings. In my case, this is a base from under a cellophane film made of dense cardboard with a diameter of 4.5 cm. I think every housewife will find such an item;) If you want to get a "waterproof" base for rings, you can use a small plastic bottle as a base. But even the cardboard that I use is quite water resistant. Even after "bathing" in champagne, you just need to rinse it with water and dry well.

Having chosen a suitable base, we cut it into rings 3 cm wide.

We wrap the blanks with tape of the desired color, securing it with hot glue.

Choosing a decor ....

And the best part is decorating the rings! I wrapped them in green ribbon.

I pasted a green-gold floral mesh.

Berries and cord ...

And of course artificial needles and gold beads!

It remains only to put the rings on the napkins.

But I suggest not to stop there! In addition to the rings, I made a small interior composition from the same materials that were used to decorate the rings.

That's all! A set of decorations for the New Year's table is ready!

We serve and admire;)

The creation of such a set of decorations for the New Year's table will not take much time and does not require special skills - easy, fast and beautiful!

Treat yourself and your loved ones with a festive, author's table setting. And if you prepare such a gift for friends or family, then for many years on New Year's Eve, it will serve as a source of good mood, bring aesthetic pleasure and remind of your warm feelings and love!
