Breeds of fluffy cats. Fluffy cat breeds

There are many breeds of domestic cats, among which each person can find a devoted and sweet pet. When choosing a breed, people are guided by different principles - some buyers like bald sphinxes, others are interested in, and still others pay attention to long-haired cat breeds, which, thanks to thick fluffy hair, look like soft toys.

At the moment, fluffy cat breeds are represented by several common species, among them:

The belonging of a cat to a certain breed implies the presence of individual characteristics, the specifics of which will be disclosed in this article.

Fluffy cats Persians spread around the world from the territory of Iran. They are graceful animals weighing from 4 to 7 kilograms. Unlike other long-haired cats, the Persian cat whose breed characteristics stipulate the presence of an average build, strong limbs and a squat appearance, has the same massive structure of the shoulder girdle and sacrum. Because of this, their body seems voluminous and rounded. Cats are distinguished by good muscle development and excellent physical health.

These are hardy and strong cats that have a round muzzle, flat nose, small ears and large expressive eyes. By temperament, a Persian cat whose price ranges from 200 to 800 dollars is a quick-witted and gentle animal. Cats have the ability to behave nobly and sophisticatedly. Among other breeds, the ragdoll cat, which you can buy from reputable breeders, has a special color.

Beautiful fluffy cats often have common roots with representatives of the breeds listed above. In particular, the famous Himalayan cat whose price is 300-400 US dollars belongs to the Persian group of animals.

This is a large breed of cats, which is characterized by the presence of long hair, a short tail, expressive eyes and rounded body lines. Cats are well developed physically - they have strong bones and excellent muscles. A stocky build combined with short legs gives the animal a somewhat overweight appearance, which is complemented by voluminous fluffy hair.

Despite their softness and peacefulness, Himalayan cats are not averse to frolic with toys and play pranks. They can become very attached to the owner and demand constant attention and pampering from him. The color of cats can be varied.

The life span of representatives of the Himalayan breed is from 9 to 12 years. Cats are not prone to genetic diseases, however, like any other pets, they require periodic veterinary care.

turkish van

The semi-longhaired Turkish Van is a cat breed of aboriginal origin. It is distinguished by a long tail, an elongated body, a graceful physique and a silky soft coat. It is believed that this breed developed in Turkey, based on the population of Van cats. At the moment, the Van cat, whose average price is 200-300 dollars, is popular all over the world.

This animal has a rather large elongated body, with well-developed muscles and chest. The back of the animal is triangular in shape - with developed shoulders and a narrow sacrum. The weight of adult cats can be 7-9 kilograms, and the height at the withers can reach 35-40 cm. The classic color of the Turkish Van is represented by a combination of red and white, or cream and white. Combinations of black and white, blue and white colors and the presence of tortoiseshell and white are also acceptable. Cats of this breed have good health, and their life expectancy is 15-16 years.

Ragamuffin

The fluffy ragamuffin is a cat breed bred by crossing ragdolls with outbred cats. The breed was first introduced to the United States at the 1994 dog show. This breed of animals is characterized by a dense physique, thick fluffy hair and muscular legs of medium length. The eyes of cats are oval, slanted, the ears are small in size and are distinguished by a wide arrangement on the head and rounded tips.

Representatives of this breed slowly mature - the cat reaches its full physical development in the fourth year of life. The weight of cats reaches 6-8 kg, and life expectancy is 13-16 years.
By nature, ragamuffins are calm and balanced pets that will exemplarily wait for the owner at the door, while he is away on business or goes to work.

At the same time, the cat is not alien to a playful mood - he can have fun in the yard, spend time with children and have fun with his toys. The cheerful and intelligent ragamuffin is one of the cats that can be trained to do tricks. This cat has an indefatigable supply of energy, which helps him to spend every day actively and cheerfully. With him you can walk for hours on a harness or on a leash. The color of representatives of this breed is allowed any.

Napoleon

Dwarf longhair cats are also popular. They are distinguished by a compact body and a small height at the shoulders. An example of a dwarf fluffy breed is the Napoleon cat, which was born as a result of crossing Munchkins with Persians or Exotics. The Napoleon cat breed got its name in honor of the French emperor, who was notable for his small stature. Such irony was shown by US breeders who introduced a new breed of dwarf cats to the general public in the mid-90s of the last century. Officially, the breed standard was adopted in 2005.

In addition to short legs and thick fluffy hair, Napoleon is characterized by the presence of a cute muzzle, thick fluffy hair and an affectionate look. An adult Napoleon is about the size of a six-month-old kitten. Its weight cannot exceed two kilograms. From the Persians, the Napoleons got a flat muzzle with a less flattened nose, expressive round eyes and small ears. According to the standards, the shape of the Napoleon's head should be wedge-shaped.

There are two varieties of the breed: classic, extreme. The classic is Napoleons with long legs, and the extreme is cats with short legs, which are more popular among animal lovers. Napoleons have a trusting, open character. They touch the owners not only with their puppet appearance, but also with constant manifestations of affection. These cats are strongly attached to the house and family members in which they live. They are very patient and unpretentious, but at the same time they need attention and care from the owner. Any color of Napoleon's coat is allowed.

Fluffy and naked, affectionate and wayward, fidgets and couch potatoes - all these are our favorite purring pets. There are dozens of cat breeds in the world, each with unique characteristics. If you are lucky enough to own a kitten with an impressive pedigree, it is better to know in advance how to care for him, than to feed him, and what tricks to expect.

The history of the emergence of cat breeds

Some breeds appeared by chance, others are the result of long selection work, and still others have managed to retain the appearance and habits of their wild ancestors, for which cat lovers appreciate them. So, the independent Siberian cat was known to our ancestors long after the first attempts to somehow register it, and the plush cutie British Shorthair cat once just caught mice on the streets of London.

However, this cannot be said about most breeds. For example, the Persian cat looked very different when it was first introduced to Europeans. There is nothing to say about bald breeds: to some they seem to be aliens of the cat world, their appearance is so different from the usual Murchikov and Murok. And this is only a small part of all cats: according to statistics, only 1% of the feline brethren can boast of belonging to a noble family.

Purposeful work on breeding new breeds began only a century and a half ago. Most of the thoroughbred beauties that are known to people today were registered only in the last century. However, all of them have become so firmly established in our lives that it is difficult to imagine it without their funny tricks.

Varieties of cats

Cat breeds are usually divided into long-haired, short-haired and hairless:

  1. Persian, Angora, Turkish Van, Norwegian Forest, Sacred Burmese, etc. are considered long-haired. Most are credited with an affectionate and docile character.
  2. Most in the world. This is the Siamese, and Oriental, and Abyssinian, and Russian Blue, and many others. They are so different from each other that it is difficult to single out any special joint features, except for a short fur coat.
  3. Naked, bald or sphinxes awaken the most conflicting feelings. Photographs cause tenderness in someone, and disgust in someone. However, the owners of these unique creatures claim that these are the most ordinary cats, although without hair. But they are very attached to the owner, they play a lot and eat a lot, because they are always trying to keep warm.

But is there a significant difference between all these breeds? Lovers of cats of noble blood claim that they are clean, obedient, independent and quick-witted. Are the outbred street vagrants any less intelligent? Moreover, anyone who brought home a kitten from the street will prove that even yesterday's residents of the yards have a love for cleanliness, and there is no need to talk about cat independence.

Love your furry friends, no matter if they have a great pedigree. Always be close to them, because every day next to a mischievous cat or affectionate kitty is then remembered with warmth and quiet joy. Who can make us happy!

The rich coat of a cat is a calling card, an ornament, and with proper care, a reason for admiration. Of course, with long hair, the number of nuances for caring for a pet grows, but for true lovers, this is not a hindrance. Especially for those who like to spend their evenings combing their pet's fur coat, we decided to list all fluffy cat breeds - choose.

Note! Fluffy cats in the general sense are animals that have long hair and, less often, cats with a semi-long, but “stuffed coat”.

Basic concepts - what is a breed and how many cat breeds exist

Is your pet's coat length your only selection criterion? In this case, your hands are untied, because among mestizos and outbred animals there are a lot of very beautiful cats, which, at times, live on the street and are in dire need of care. The situation will be a little more complicated if you are an adherent of only purebred animals and want to get a pet with a certain character.

How many cat breeds do you think there are? If you collect all the open data, the figure reaches 700! However, this figure is very far from the truth.

Purebred animal has documents! Pedigree and metrics, that is, official papers confirming its origin and conformity of the exterior to the breed standard.

Each thoroughbred cat is registered in the club, and the club in one of the felinological organizations. This is where the fun begins. There are hundreds of breed organizations in the world and only three authoritative "head" clubs:

  • World FIFe - International Cat Federation - recognizes 42 breeds.
  • European WCF - World Cat Federation - recognizes 70 breeds.
  • The American CFA - Cat Fanciers Association - recognizes 40 breeds.

It must be understood that the above data is quite flexible, there is a chance for recognition of a new breed every day, and recognized breeds are duplicated in registries.

So, from 700, we came to 100-110 species officially recognized in the world and eligible to participate in exhibitions. In addition to these breeds, there are a number of mixed / experimental groups - mestizos, hybrids, etc.

Breeding work on breeding new breeds is carried out only with the permission of the head clubs and is strictly controlled. That is, if you are offered to buy a half-Persian and half-Angora, this is not a new breed, and not a breed at all - it's a mestizo! A kitten from two Persians without pedigrees is not a breed, but a phenotype.

Well, now let's look at the breeds of fluffy cats that are recognized in the world. It is worth noting that the photo and the name of the cat are not complete data, since the American and European breed standards may differ.

Before buying a kitten, be sure to study all the available data about the future pet and make sure that the club / breeder is registered with reputable felinological organizations.

According to the English writer George Mikish, people get dogs, and cats people, apparently classifying them as useful pets. It's a joke, you might say, but as they say, every joke has some truth to it. Yes, these pets are more independent, characteristic and even somewhat arrogant than dogs. But this not only scares people away from them, but makes them respect, love and appreciate even more. In addition, different breeds have their own characteristics that must be considered when choosing your pet.

Representatives of the most ancient breed, which were depicted next to the pharaohs, definitely attract attention. Their gracefulness, royal posture and confident look leave no room for doubt that they were once truly considered sacred. Despite her proud appearance, she is very playful, agile and extremely curious. She can show character, as she does not like to sit on her hands. But with other pets, the Abyssinian gets along quite well, as well as with children.

They seem to be turned inside out, and the owners of curls are joking - so as not to miss a single rustle. There are several varieties with coats of varying lengths, but they all carry the longhair gene, and fluffy kittens can appear in a smooth-haired family. The coat of cats is distinguished by silkiness, softness and lack of undercoat.

But be that as it may, these are graceful, large cats, whose weight can reach 14-15 kg. Outwardly, they are very reminiscent of a leopard. Like all cats, they are curious, playful and great with children.

Care for long-haired cats should be especially thorough.

To keep the fur healthy, they need:

  • a whole set of special combs with different lengths and frequency of teeth;
  • a set of conditioners, balms and antistatic agents for wool.
They need to be combed out several times a week, and during molting - daily; otherwise, they, licking themselves on their own, can swallow wool and clog the intestines.

If you do not follow the tangles on the stomach: do not cut them, if it is no longer possible to comb them, then they will cause pain to the animal, and you will have to contact a veterinarian or a groomer.

To maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract, fluffy cats require special food that allows you to remove hair from the intestines. For this purpose, they should also be given germinated grass.

Your cat needs regular ear cleaning. With a cotton swab dipped in vegetable oil or a solution of boric acid, excess sulfur is removed from the auricle.

Important! It is strictly forbidden to penetrate deep into the cat's ear canal! This can only be done by a veterinarian.

Care of the muzzle consists of daily rubbing with a damp soft cloth. Otherwise, the animal will have wrinkles near the eyes, which can turn sour due to tears.

You should also regularly wash the anus with warm water, especially in short-tailed cats.

Cutting should be taught from a young age, then the cat will not resist the procedure. To do this, the foot is clamped with the thumb and forefinger, pressing lightly, until the claws are released. Only the tips are cut off, without touching the pink skin. Nail clipping frequency:

  • kittens - weekly,
  • adults - once every two weeks.
To maintain oral health, the cat should be taken to the veterinarian annually and regularly self-examined. Kittens are also encouraged to brush their teeth and gums with a finger wrapped in gauze.
Remember: by adopting a cat, you make friends with a special creature. Therefore, treat your pet with care, pay more attention to it than to yourself. After all, living at home, outside the wild, cats cannot take care of themselves.
