The circumference size (head volume) is 20 inches. An inch is 2.54 cm, which means the head volume is 51-52 cm.

Let's look at the pattern:

The height of the hat is 10 inches (24.5 cm) from the bottom edge of the eyelet to the top seam. The pattern needs to be tailored to your size. To do this, measure the circumference of the head and the height of the hat with a centimeter. Fold the knitwear in half, apply the pattern, pin it, and cut it out with a seam allowance of 0.7-0.9 mm.

We make a pattern on paper. Using the same pattern, we will also cut the fleece. Please note that the fleece should be 0.5-0.7 cm longer than the knitwear, we must sweep out the piping from the fleece, as in this photo:

From dark knitwear we cut out 2 strips for ties. The width of the strips is 3cm. Cut the cord, approximately 19 inches (47.5 cm). Divide the cord in half.

Sew the strips together and turn them right side out. We thread the cord inside the tie.

We sew the side seam, and gradually all the other seams, ironing them.

We trim the corners and also sew the seams of the hat.

Sew up all remaining seams and iron them. The shortest seam is in front.

Mark the location of the ties with chalk or pencil. We sew the main and lining together, inserting the ties. We leave a little space, do not make the stitching continuous, so that later we can turn the hat onto its face.

We take a canvas measuring 160 by 70. Naturally, 160 is the length, and 70 is the width. If you often wear it on your head like a cap, I would recommend adding a little width. You can take a tape measure and measure from your forehead, over your head, to your desired neck length. You can add 5-8 cm to the front fold. This will be your width, which needs to be multiplied by two. Fold it in half with the front side facing inward and pin the place of the future seam.

We sew with a knitted stitch on an overlocker or sewing machine. Then we turn the right side out and connect the two open sections together, now you just need to sew these sections inside.



A small hole remains unsewn.

The main thing is to sew with a stitch that stretches, but when you sew this, it is better to immediately sew with a stretch. In the photo you can see how I stretch using my index finger.


I schematically show the seam that needs to be sewn with, as it stretches well. But you can also sew with other knitted hems, it doesn’t matter. The main thing is that the seam stretches the entire stretch of the scarf and does not tear or pull.

This scarf is not ready yet, I can’t show the result yet. But I think you understand the principle. I prefer double snoods, then you don't have to worry about a seam that might be visible. But there are so many people and so many opinions, everyone loves differently, so I decided to show a single one. You can process the edges using a cover-stitching machine, but such loose and voluminous knitwear looks more beautiful if processed by hand.
