What fabric to sew a tie for a boy. School kit - hairpins-bows and kanzashi tie for a girl. Materials and tools

First of all, decide on the style, shape and size of the tie. We will show you how to sew a standard tie that is 145 cm long, 9 cm wide (measured at its widest part), with overlapping top and bottom edges.

Attention: the most suitable material for sewing a man's tie is dense plain weave silk.

You need

  • Silk fabric 90 x 90 cm (enough for two ties - one standard size, see above, and one narrower)
  • Woolen fabric 80 cm long (the width will depend on whether you will reinforce the tie in 1 or 2 layers: to strengthen the tie, you can take a regular dressing plain woolen fabric, but the ideal option is 100% combed woolen fabric, elastic and dense)
  • Template for cutting to the shape of the front side of a tie made of thick cardboard or thick film (for manufacturing see step 2)
  • Sharp scissors () or roller cutter ()
  • Cutting pad
  • Silk pins ()
  • Ruler ()
  • Pencil
  • Marker ()
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Tape measure ()

Work description

Step 1: prepare tools and materials

Prepare everything you need for cutting and sewing in advance so that everything is at your fingertips. Determine the length of the tie with a string, which you then attach to the tape measure. Consider the additional knot allowance when calculating the length of your tie. Choose the width and shape of the tie.

Step 2: make a template

On thick cardboard or film, draw the lower part of the tie (extended downward or straight) with a length of at least 30 cm, or better, more, up to 70 cm. Draw the lower corner, as shown in the photo, or any other shape (you can, for example, draw the lower edge in a straight line).

Attention: the width of the template should be 3 times the width of the finished tie, as you will be folding the long sides of the tie three times towards the middle. Plus add 3mm to the overlapping folds in the middle of the tie.

On the bottom corner of the tie, draw 2 parallel seam lines along the edges at 5mm intervals. At the bottom corner, draw a transverse seam line through the intersection of the inner seam lines so that the distance between the ends of the transverse line and the bottom corner is the same.

Make a template for the top edge of the tie in the same way, draw the seam lines in the same way, but the template should be narrower than the template for the bottom.

Step 3: cut out the main piece of silk tie

Gently lay the silk face down in one layer and smooth it very evenly with your hands on the surface. Lay the template of the lower edge of the tie on top of the silk, at a certain distance (after calculating the required length of the tie) lay the template of the upper edge of the tie - the acute-angled ends are directed in different directions - and connect the points of the ends of the templates in a straight line (if they do not join).

Be careful, the template must be laid exactly at an angle of 45 degrees to the straight thread. Its acute angle should lie either at the intersection of the lobar and transverse filaments, or on both sides at the same degree relative to the lobar and transverse filaments.

Now run the roller knife along the outline of the template and along the marked line, or cut out the part with sharp scissors. True, it is still more convenient to cut out on a special bedding with a roller cutter, but be sure to use a new, sharply sharpened blade for cutting.

If you have a piece of silk in the size of 90 x 90 cm - as in our version, do not refuse the opportunity to sew a second, narrower, less formal tie at the same time. Cut and sew it using exactly the same technology as described for a classic tie.

Step 4: transfer the stitch seam lines

Now, on the wrong side of the silk, draw the seam lines for the seam bottom edge - these are the lines that you drew on the template (including the cross line). Then repeat the same operation with the top end of the tie.

Step 5: cut out additional parts

In addition to the main piece of the tie, you will also need to cut out 2 details of the facing: one for the bottom edge, the other for the top. They represent the lower (upper) corner and a part of the tie with a minimum height of 30 cm. For the spacer, cut out 1 or 2 additional pieces of woolen fabric. If the wool is thin, then it is better to cut out 2 parts, sweep them over the entire surface with long stitches (do not use glue pads!) And then process them as a single-layer part. For cheaper options, non-woven can be used. It is better to cut out the gasket part after grinding the trims of the upper and lower edges of the tie, for dimensions see step 8.

From silk, you also need to cut out a strip for fastening with a length = width of a tie minus 2-3 cm and a width of 6-8 cm - in finished form, 2.5 - 3.5 cm wide.

Iron out all cut out parts by setting the appropriate heating temperature. Do not iron directly on the silk, so that it does not shine, iron the silk only through the iron.

Step 6: finishing the top and bottom edges of the tie

Now comes the most important part of the job: you need to flawlessly process the top and bottom edge of the tie with a welt. Edging gives the tie a nice look on both sides, which is very important when, for example, it is fluttering in the wind.

Attention: do not overcast tie cuts!

Place the piping on the lower part of the tie, front to front, precisely combining the beveled edges and the bottom corner, pin it with pins, or sweep it better. Make sure the fabric of both parts is flat.

First sew from the top edge of the piping to the first corner. Then sew along the second side from the top edge of the piping to the first corner.
Now sew along the marked line for the outside seam all the way to the bottom corner, raise the machine foot, turn it, lower the foot, and sew to the other corner. Similarly sew the second, parallel seam all the way down to the bottom corner and then up. Finish by stitching across to form a sharp corner on the finished tie.

Tip: To perform this operation very accurately, use a piece of Whatman paper cut exactly in the shape of an equilateral triangle.

Experienced craftsmen sew a corner of the tie by eye, but it will be difficult for novice sewing lovers without templates and markings to ideally perform this important operation. Finally, cut the corner along the cross stitch at a distance of 5 mm. Cut the remaining allowances close to the outer sewing line.

Step 7: turn out and iron out

Now turn the top and bottom ends of the tie to the right side. Carefully pull out the corners, straighten the seams - they should not have a single wrinkle. Iron the seams at both ends carefully so that they are not completely flat.

Step 8: lay the gasket

Place the wool (or non-woven) part on the wrong side of the tie exactly in the middle. The gasket piece should be of such length that one end aligns exactly with the top end of the top edge trim and the other end precisely with the top end of the bottom edge trim. The width of the piece is exactly the same as the width of the finished tie. Cut the top and bottom edges in a straight line.

Step 9: Roll up the long sides towards the middle

Tuck the long sides of the silk tie inward by a sixth of the width, then fold inward again so that both folded halves fit exactly in the middle of the tie on its inside, with one half over the other by 1-3 mm. Pin up the edges.

Tip: Use special silk pins, such as those that do not puncture expensive fabrics.

Step 10: sew on the bartack

Fold the bartack strip in half with the wrong side in, and sew a long cut. Turn over and press the strip so that the seam is at the bottom. Fold the bartack in half and insert with open cuts inside the fold of the tie, as shown in the photo. The fastening will allow the tie to last longer and to keep its shape better.

Sew the bartack carefully under the fold by hand, then straighten it in the form of a transverse strip (see photo), lay flat on the inside of the tie and manually sew to the tie with blind stitches on both sides. Do not pierce the right side of the needle!

Step 11: start sewing the middle fold from the bottom of the tie

Now with blind stitches (as in our case) or sew both folds of the fold in the middle of the inner side of the tie.

Step 12: finish the seam in the middle of the inside of the tie

Do not pull the thread too tight so that the seam stays elastic and does not tighten on the right side of the tie. Sew slowly and carefully from the bottom edge up, gradually removing the pins. Make sure the seam is straight. Finish a seam on the top of the tie, which should look the same as the bottom.

Step 13: your own label - handmade proof

Do not forget to sew your own label just below the bartack: sew it not with several stitches in the corners, but with small stitches on both short sides, of course, without piercing the needle on the right side.

Step 14: iron and try on

Iron the tie again through the iron. Now your handmade tie is ready! All that remains is to try it on with a new shirt.

I used to think that tailoring of ties- it's difficult, but after I decided to sew a tie, it turned out that it is much easier than I thought!

Immediately I would like to make a reservation that I had to learn to sew a tie myself, but this does not mean at all that the method that I propose is handicraft.

In order to master and find out what is technology of sewing ties, I had to look into one high-quality worn-out tie.

What do you think? This is how we learn - we unpick and study the latest innovations in the field of technology 🙂 Nobody will tell you how it is done - everyone is patented.

One more point. The corners of the tie can be processed in different ways. In this post I will not describe how to do it - it will be in the next posts.

Described here all sewing and sequence without finishing ends.

The technology for sewing ties is as follows:

1. We take a thick canvas and cut it out clearly according to the pattern of the tie. It will give it shape and not let it wrinkle.
One-piece part, most likely, will not work, because you need to cut it at an angle of 45 degrees, so we cut it out with a joint and connect it later.

2. Now we prepare the loop.
To do this, cut a strip of fabric obliquely, approximately 4 cm wide. Fold this strip with the front side inward and pin it off with pins.

3. We lay a line in the center of this strip.

4. Turn on the front side and press it on.

6. Sew and iron out the seam allowances.

On the front side:

7. Now we put the canvas base into the tie, straightening the corners.
The canvas should fit snugly in the corners!
Pierce in the center with pins.

8. We sweep, thereby fastening both parts, and take out the pins.

9. And now a very crucial moment comes!

Many will not understand why it is forbidden do like this:

Those. sew a tie from the inside and turn it out.

At first, I didn't understand that either. Although, when I ripped open the old copy, I saw that it was sewn by hand. But I wanted to finish everything as soon as possible 🙂
But, as I was convinced once again that "if you hurry, you will make people laugh."

I sewed it, turned it out, and gasped!
The tie is cut obliquely, and therefore its threads are a very complex system. If a little up and down, left and right, then oblique creases begin. It looked very messy and bad.
I had to redo it the way it was done on the branded store and time-worn sample.

And we do this:

We fix the edges of the allowances on the basis with pins, and pin the middle with pins with an overhead seam. Then we sew it in secret so that the filing is not visible.

10. Now we need to sew on a loop that will keep the short end inside from unintentionally peeking out from under the top.

To do this, at a distance, approximately (it is better to visually try on and look at the "body", it depends on how long you should have a tie), 30 cm from the bottom of the wide side, outline the location of the loop.

We sew the loop by hand, not right through, but grabbing only the top layer of the fabric, and you can also use the canvas.

We pin the other side with a pin so that the loop is not tightly sewn, but so that there is a gap for the narrow end of the tie (we also sew it by hand).

11. Now we fasten the edges together at the narrow end of the tie.

And at the wide end we make the same bartack.

And so a closer look can be seen what kind of setting.

12. We also bartack one stitch above the buttonhole. About 1-1.5 cm taller.
This is necessary so that the tie does not break, when the inner end of the tie is constantly being pulled in and pulled out.

13. Worked, worked hard and here it is - a tie with your own hands!

And again, sewing a tie is nothing complicated.

An elegant wardrobe item makes the look effective, complete. Making a fashion accessory yourself is not very difficult, be it a bow tie, a pioneer tie or a classic men's version. As a result of painstaking work, an exclusive model is obtained that is not inferior to custom-made accessories.

How to make a tie

For work, you need a piece of fabric 1.35 m long and a lining material 14x15 cm for the back. It is better to duplicate an insufficiently dense fabric along the entire length so that the finished accessory keeps its shape. In this case, you will need a lining fabric equal in size to the base material. Before sewing a tie, the fabric must be washed, dried to avoid shrinkage and gently ironed with an iron. A tie pattern can be drawn along the contour of an old thing or printed for free from the Internet.

Sewing ties involves the processing of corners. This is important because the slightest error can ruin the appearance of the accessory. There are two ways to finish the bottom edge of the garment. The first option requires drawing two lines inside out. A line closer to the cut is needed to grind the lining. The second line is the fold. The lining is attached to the front of the main body, attached with pins. Then you need to lay a straight seam across the corner, turn the product inside out, iron it. Next, the sides are covered, turned inside out, and ironed again with an iron.

The second processing option involves drawing two lines indicating the boundaries of the finished corners. The drawing is taken from the base, transferred to the lining fabric. Then the corners are ironed along the markings. The details are aligned with the front sides, fastened with pins. It is important to make sure that the elements match exactly. Next, a line is sewn from corner to edge. The product is ironed with an iron. After checking the correctness of the lines and the angle drawn, the second line is made. The product is turned inside out, ironed on.

How to sew a men's tie with your own hands

To make an elegant men's accessory, you will need fabric, lining material. In addition, you will need:

  • thin threads in the color of the main fabric;
  • tailor's scissors (you can take ordinary, good cutting material);
  • sewing machine or needle (if manufacturing will be done by hand);
  • sharp pins;
  • tape measure;
  • iron, ironing board.

How to sew a classic accessory correctly? Your actions:

  1. Cut the bulk out of thick canvas using a cardboard template. If a solid piece does not work, a connection of the components will be required.
  2. Cut the blank for the loop along the slant - a strip of 4x6 cm.Fold the rectangle with the right side inward, pin it with pins.
  3. Place the stitch in the center of the strip. Turn the element out, iron it.
  4. Pin the seam on the body.
  5. Stitch the sections, iron the allowances.
  6. Process the corners.
  7. Work in a dense base, straightening the corners.
  8. Pin the part in the center.
  9. Lay out a basting.
  10. Secure the edges of the seam allowances with pins.
  11. Create a blind seam in the center.
  12. Sew the buttonhole to the back, grabbing only the top layer of the fabric with the thread. The element is needed to hold the short end.
  13. Staple the edges at the narrow and wide ends of the garment.
  14. Place a stitch over the buttonhole, 1-1.5 cm. The bartack will protect the product from deformation when the end is being threaded in and pulled out.

How to sew a children's tie with an elastic band

The no-tie accessory is comfortable for school-age boys. The pattern of the product consists of a main part, a knot, a front part of an elastic band, a backing corner. The size of the product changes according to the height of the child. To sew a tie for a boy with an elastic band, prepare:

  • pattern;
  • fabric 40 by 40 cm;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • threads to match the main fabric;
  • gum;
  • sewing machine;
  • pins.

How to sew a tie for a boy? Your actions:

  1. Cut out the main part, positioning the pattern obliquely.
  2. Duplicate the part with non-woven fabric.
  3. Fold the element along the fold line, sew from the wrong side.
  4. Turn the workpiece out, iron it with an iron.
  5. Measure the width of the top.
  6. Cut a strip at least 10 cm long. The width of the part is twice the measured top.
  7. Duplicate the element with non-woven fabric.
  8. Fold the strip in half, sew from the inside out.
  9. Turn the part out.
  10. Sew the element to form a knot.
  11. Cut the front of the elastic out of the fabric. Sew elastic tape on the sides.
  12. Connect the base to the knot.
  13. Sew the fabric to the upper seam allowances.
  14. Pull the base through the knot.
  15. Place the adjusting hooks on the elastic.

DIY ribbon tie

An elegant accessory serves as a decoration for a special occasion. To sew an accessory for a girl yourself, prepare:

  • satin ribbon 4 cm wide;
  • brooch, rhinestones, half beads;
  • lace 4 cm wide;
  • hot glue;
  • lighter;
  • scissors.

A do-it-yourself satin ribbon tie is done like this:

  1. Measure and cut the ponytail blanks: one piece 26 cm long, 3 ribbons and 3 lace strips 15 cm each, 6 pieces 13 cm each.
  2. Fold 15cm ribbons in half with lace and trim over the edges.
  3. Fold the rest of the elements in half. Singe the edges gently.
  4. Fold the ponytail by attaching the shorter pieces to the longest ribbon.
  5. Cut out blanks for the bow: 1 piece 30 cm, 4 ribbons of 28 cm and 4 laces of the same length, 1 ribbon and lace 25 cm, 1 piece 15 cm.
  6. Fold and glue the pieces so that the shorter pieces are in the front.
  7. Sew the stripes.
  8. Glue the brooch blank.
  9. Attach the base with a pin.

    A tie with an elastic band is very convenient, especially for junior and high school boys who have not yet learned how to tie ties on their own, and mothers simply do not have enough time for this.

    Let's look at how to sew the most ordinary school tie with an elastic band.

    We take an ordinary sheet and make a pattern on it. Sizes can be different, that is, we choose the length and width of the tie.

    Along the line, where we have written the fold, fold the sheet.

    Cut out the pattern.

    Here is our pattern.

    We cut out along an oblique line.

    We glue flizilin on the pattern.

    Fold the tie along the fold line and sew on the seamy side.

    We fold our pattern on the floors and sew it.

    We turn out our workpiece and iron it.

    Let's start making a tie knot. To do this, measure the width of the top cut of the tie.

    We cut out for the knot a strip of fabric with a width that will be equal to two widths of the upper cut of the tie, which we have already measured. The length is arbitrary, but not less than 10 centimeters. We will correct the length in the process.

    We also glue this piece of non-woven fabric.

    Fold in half and sew on the seamy side.

    Fold the strip as shown in the picture and mark the seam line.

    Fold as shown in the picture and sew.

    We turn it through the knot and straighten it.

    Now your son will be the most beautiful among his peers.

    In order to sew a tie with an elastic band, first of all you need to decide on the material and get an elastic band of the color that suits you in this case.

    I suggest that you sew a tie from cinder fabric, so from the materials for sewing we need the following:

    And here is a template (pattern) for our tie:

    Sewing process:

    Let's try to sew a tie with an elastic band on our own. This is not difficult! We need to make a pattern for the tie and the elastic itself.

    Ties with an elastic band are called herring. They are easy to dress and wear, they are popular for this. For example, they are often worn by boys. Also, such a tie is part of the uniform.

    To make a pattern, you will need the following parts: the main part of the tie, the tie knot, the front of the elastic, the lining corner.

    For a tie 37 cm long, take fabrics 40 40 cm.

    In this sewing, everyone does obliquely quot ;:

    We carry out the lining part from selection, the nodal part:

    The elastic is represented by one front part and two side ones. The front is made of main fabric, and the sides are made of linen elastic.

    The front part and glue ironed, rolled. Sewn on the sides with linen elastic bands.

    Likewise with the detail of the node.

    From the inside of the main part of the tie, a crimp, a lining knot is applied.

    The future knot is sewn into a loop.

    The main part of the tie is folded up and stitched from the back side.

Satin ribbons are an excellent material for crafts and jewelry. They create amazing bows, hairpins and even ties that will decorate a schoolgirl's blouse on September 1. You can create such topical accessories for students from satin braid with your own hands in just a couple of hours, and your schoolgirl will be inimitable on the festive line. A school tie is a fashionable accessory that will emphasize gracefulness and add novelty to a school look.

To create a school kit you will need:

  1. Brown satin ribbon, 4 cm wide.
  2. White satin border, its width is about 2 cm.
  3. White braid with flowers as decorative trim.
  4. Organza white, 1 cm wide.
  5. Thermal gun and transparent glue stick.
  6. Tie clip.
  7. Pins or rubber bands as a base for bows.
  8. Decorating elements in the middle of the items.
  9. Lighter.

The first step is to create a tie. It consists of several lush rows and a separate bow that adorns the upper part of the product.

For a tie, you need seven cuts, they are 13 cm long, four blanks are cut from a brown smooth ribbon.

Four of these elements are bent with the wrong side inward, while the very edges of the part are glued together with hot melt glue. The same folds are obtained for four blanks.

A white border with flowers is added to the three remaining blanks, it should be located in the center of the main ribbon. To adhere both straps, you need to singe the edges together and squeeze with tweezers or gloved fingers, remember that the melted synthetic material is very hot and can cause burns.

The tapes are sealed on both sides, and in the center they are fastened with glue, which is applied with a needle or a toothpick.

The edges of the double tape are also glued with the right side outward, so that you get roundings on the other side of the part, like with brown blanks.

The first element with a border is glued down to the base of the tie, which will be a piece of brown tape, the length of which is no more than 15 cm.

Two plain blanks are glued over the bottom element, approximately at right angles to each other, but at the same time they are attached at an angle to the first element.

The next tier of brown folds is created in a similar scenario.

Now we start forming the bow. For him, take three 11 cm cuts.

One of the cuts will be the horizontal base of the bow, for this glue the cut into a ring, fixing the edges of the fabric with two drops.

Apply the next drop of glue to the inner surface of the ring in the joint area and immediately press down to the opposite side to form a shape identical to the number eight.

Lace is attached to the remaining two sections. You need to fix the white border with a lighter along the edges and glue in the center of the part.

The resulting element is glued to a horizontal base.

Another small bow is glued from a narrower ribbon (approximately 2 cm), which will decorate the middle of the product, lying horizontally.

Fix the part on the top of the base, and then decorate the middle with a metal element in a classic style.

The resulting bow is glued to the upper part of the base of the tie, that is, it must be evenly positioned above the wavy part of the bulk product.

The tie holder is glued to its non-face side at the top. It can be a special base like a brooch or a simple pin that fits in size. It is important to position the mount evenly horizontally so that the product itself does not shift to one side when worn and looks not only festive and elegant, but also neat.

The second stage in this master class is devoted to the description of the creation of bows, which are very suitable for the school uniform for the holiday on September 1. They are created in accordance with the style of the tie, their main "highlight" is the combination of a brown satin ribbon with a delicate white border with the image of roses. Such bows will decorate tails, a schoolgirl braid or pin her loose hair.

First, we prepare the base of the bow from the brown ribbon cuts. Each piece requires a 23 cm flap.

Roll it into an even ring, while only the very edge of the product is glued.

By gluing two opposite sides together, turn the ring into a typical bow. This element will be the basis of the product, it will be located strictly across.

From a white tape, which is about 22 mm wide, two similar "eights" are created in the same type as the brown base.

Crosswise, two white elements are glued together in a nice bow.

To add volume and originality, the product needs wavy elements that will rise above the entire composition. To do this, you need 25 cm long white organza cuts.

The edges must be twisted with a ring and glued to the middle of the braid, this is such an unusual element.

The two parts are glued together in the center and form a part of four shuttlecocks.

A white bow is glued in the center of the unusual blank, each edge of it is pushed into the rounded part of the transparent part and a voluminous bow is obtained.

Glue a white bow to the brown horizontal base.

To make the bows look like a set with a similar brown tie, you will need to fasten a white ribbon with roses to the brown braid. To do this, take 15 cm long pieces of lace and satin ribbon and fasten their edges over the fire (the wrong side of the lace is applied over the smooth part of the satin). In the center, secure one border over the other with glue.

This element is glued into a simple bow like a brown bottom part. Stick a new two-layer bow across the entire work, placing it strictly in the center. The middle of the school bows are decorated with white flowers.

Clips or elastic bands are required to attach the September 1st bows to the tails. Hairpins are glued to the back of the product. After fastening the fabric with a clip or elastic band, it is necessary to press down the constituent parts and wait a few minutes until the glue dries. The bows are ready!

Hand-made ties and bows are unique, so on the first day of school, your student will be the most beautiful of all.
