  • - penofol;
  • - parachute lines or grosgrain ribbon;
  • - zipper with a length of at least 50 cm;
  • - zipper for a pocket across the width of the body;
  • - 2 plastic buckles with snaps;
  • - graph paper;
  • - pencil;
  • - a piece of chalk;
  • - tape measure;
  • - ruler;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - sewing needle;
  • - nylon, lavsan or cotton threads;
  • - glue "Moment"

Instructions

Draw a pattern on graph paper. Trace the guitar. Place the pencil strictly vertically. Make the contour of the neck and head without thickening, according to the width of the head. The guitar should fit freely into the case, so increase the pattern by the thickness of the insulation plus another 0.5-1 cm in each direction. For the side deck, draw a rectangle, the length of which is five centimeters greater than the perimeter of the main part, and the width is equal to the height of the deck. Don't forget about allowances.

Transfer the details to fabric and penofol. Cut the insulation strictly according to the drawing. Make larger allowances on the outer parts. Then trim off the excess. Remember that you need 2 main pieces of fabric and insulation and 1 strip.

The cover can be made with . It will be located on the top. Trace the outline of the pattern of the main part to about half of the resonator. Align the pocket with the outline of the outer part. It can be done without insulation.

Make a handle from parachute cord or grosgrain ribbon. It is a strip approximately 25-30 cm long. Mark a place for it on the side tape, approximately in the part where the resonator connects to the neck. Sew the handle or attach it with rivets.

The cover can have one or two straps. Cut the appropriate piece of webbing. It is also more convenient to make two straps from one piece.

Start sewing by processing the parts. Open the zipper. Align one half with the top edge of the pocket so that the " " is on the right side. Baste and stitch the zipper. Sew the other half to the top of the cover, aligning the wrong side of the pocket with the right side of the top. Close the zipper. Baste or pin pieces along the remaining seams.

Sew straps to the bottom of the cover. Find the middle of the line where the bar meets the body. Move 3-4 cm down from this point. Fold the sling in half, align the middle with the marked point and stitch. Place a fabric or leather triangle on top.

Cut 2 pieces of sling, each 15-20 cm long. Thread them into the slots of the latches and fold them in half. Sew them to the bottom of the cover, retreating approximately 5 cm from the semicircular cut. Make sure that the parts are at the same level and at the same distance from the sides. Reinforce them with triangles made of leather or fabric.

All professional musicians know that choosing accessories for a guitar is no less important a process than buying a high-quality instrument and sound reinforcement equipment or gadgets/effects processors. This also applies to guitars with electronics, the slightest impact on which can damage the instrument, and rather fragile and “capricious” acoustic instruments that can react very seriously to changes in the environment, both externally and in terms of sound.

Most beginners are inattentive when buying such an important and necessary thing as a guitar case - and this is precisely where the “miser pays twice” principle can work, especially if you often go to rehearsals, see a teacher, or go to perform at concerts.

Why do you need a guitar case?

This accessory performs two important tasks at once: it helps to conveniently transport the guitar and, among other things, protects it from negative external influences.

A properly selected case will not only guarantee convenient and safe carrying, but will also allow you to store the guitar compactly and without damaging the wood at home or at a rehearsal point, and neatly store all additional devices: effects pedals, cords, power supplies, spare strings and picks. Modern covers and cases for guitars are quite different from each other: we’ll tell you about the most popular types of accessories depending on their purpose.

Mechanical guitar cases

Their main task is to protect your guitar from external mechanical influence. It is for this reason that they are made of rigid and durable materials that can withstand falls and directed impact. They are quite bulky, but have the highest degree of protection - previously, by the way, all tools were transported in bulky wooden cases upholstered in leather - today manufacturers offer very ergonomic options with a high degree of mechanical protection.

Waterproof cases

Guitars are made of wood and often have a lot of electronic components in the body - exposing the instrument to moisture can have a very negative impact on its performance and sound. Waterproof guitar cases have layers of special polymer fibers that will protect your guitar and electronics from waterlogging even in rainy weather and snowfall.

Heat Resistant Guitar Cases

High or low temperatures can also have an effect on the instrument - the thermal effect affects both the structure of the wood itself and the glue used to assemble the guitar. To carry your guitar in winter, it is better to use an insulated case.

Today, a variety of materials are used to make guitar cases: traditional wood, leather and velvet interior lining, inexpensive polyester and nylon, reinforced synthetic polymer threads that can withstand even the heaviest loads.

Among musicians today there is an opinion that a light and soft accessory is much worse than a hard guitar case, since they are cheaper. You should not follow this stereotype: we recommend choosing a case primarily based on your needs.

Types of guitar cases by hardness

1. Soft cases

The most popular, individual models cost less than $6 - lightweight, compact accessories that are perfect for storing a guitar at home and for careful transportation to a rehearsal or music school. Degree of protection - in fact, they only protect the instrument from dirt and dust; such covers can hardly protect the instrument from rain, snow or extreme temperatures outside.

2. Semi-rigid (insulated) covers

Typically, polymer materials are used in manufacturing, but a distinctive feature of this type of case is the presence of a layer between the outer and lining fabric. Lining materials can be different, most often it is foam rubber or cotton wool. The functionality is slightly better than traditional soft cases: they provide a little more protection from moisture and cold, while, however, protecting the instrument much better from mechanical threats. The price of a semi-rigid type guitar case is slightly higher - from $8 and above.

3. Hard guitar case

The most expensive option, providing the least convenient carrying in hands, but the most reliable protection from both mechanical stress and moisture and temperature. In manufacturing, impact-resistant types of plastic or wood upholstered in leather are most often used; the lining is most often made of velvet. Do not forget that the weight of such cases is much higher even than that of semi-rigid options.

How to choose a guitar case?

  • We recommend purchasing a guitar accessory immediately when purchasing an instrument, asking for help from a consultant. If you want to buy a case for an existing guitar, then the ideal option would be to bring it to the store and look at options that fit the size, having previously decided on the required level of protection from external influences.
  • Don't forget that the soft case is mostly suitable for storing the instrument at home or for transporting it in moderately warm, dry weather.
  • When bringing your guitar in from the cold, under no circumstances take the instrument out of its case in the first 15-20 minutes - it must warm up to room temperature. Otherwise, condensation may appear on the surface of the guitar, which is harmful to the fittings, strings and electronics.

If you want to keep your guitar in excellent condition, you can't do without a high-quality case. There are a huge number of models of guitar cases available on the market, but they are not always suitable for various unusual musical instruments. You can independently sew a unique guitar case from modern materials.

You will need it

  • – avisent or leatherette;
  • – grosgrain ribbon or parachute lines;
  • – penofol;
  • – zipper for pocket;
  • – zipper for the case;
  • – plastic buckles with latches;
  • – pencil, graph paper, piece of chalk;
  • – ruler, measuring tape;
  • - sewing machine;
  • – cotton, nylon or lavsan threads;
  • – “Moment” glue.

Draw a pattern on graph paper. Trace the musical instrument with a pencil. Add 0.5-1 centimeter to each side of the drawing so that the guitar fits freely in the case.

Transfer the pattern details onto penofol and fabric. Cut out the heat insulator according to the drawing. Make allowances of 1-1.5 centimeters on the outer parts. It will be easier to trim off the excess later than to finish off the missing.

Make a handle from grosgrain ribbon or parachute cord. Sew or attach the handle with rivets.

If desired, make a case with a pocket. Trace the contour of the cover pattern to half of the resonator and align the pocket along the contour of the highest part.

The guitar case can have one or two straps. Cut a piece of tape or stroma.

If you are making a heat insulator for a cover from padding polyester, you will additionally need a lining made of soft fabric.

Process the details. Open the zipper. Baste and stitch its parts to the product. Close the zipper. Chip or sweep away the pieces.

Sew the straps to the bottom of the cover. Where the neck of the guitar meets the body, find the middle of the strip. Step back 3-4 centimeters from this point. Fold the sling in half. Align the middle of the sling with the marked point, then stitch and place a triangle of leather or fabric on top.

Cut two pieces of sling 15-20 cm long. Insert them into the slots of the latches, then fold them in half and sew them to the bottom of the cover at a distance of about 5 cm from the semicircular cut. The parts should be at an equal distance from the sides and at the same level.

Baste and stitch first to the strip, and then to the upper part of the cover of the zipper halves.

Lay out the pieces of the product with the wrong side up. Stick penofol or other filler to them. Apply glue to the metalized side of the heat insulator. Let the parts dry a little.

Baste and topstitch the top of the guitar case and the strip along the back. Sew the bottom part to the strip. You can turn the cover inside out. Sew buckles to the straps.

We make patterns from ready-made clothes - easy!
The method is this: take a larger cardboard box, cut it so as to make a large flat cardboard surface. Now take the thing you are copying, a box of sewing pins, and pin the thing to the cardboard. Stick pins in more often, they will leave a very visible mark on thick cardboard.
Then you remove the pins, put the little thing aside, and draw with a felt-tip pen or marker along the holes, like in a children's book where you had to connect the dots. The pattern is ready, all that remains is to transfer it to a medium - tracing paper, thin plastic, non-woven fabric, and so on. Don’t forget to increase the pattern by the size of the seam allowances – 0.5 – 1 cm.
