Sewing materials

We use materials with a special hydrophobic treatment for sewing hockey jerseys. Due to this, they have the properties of simultaneously allowing air to pass through and not absorbing moisture. This allows the shirts to stay dry and, through ventilation, prevent the player from overheating.
Hockey fabric consists of two knitted layers, so that the shirt does not "unravel" when snags and cuts. Special yarns provide improved abrasion and tear resistance.
Our materials are completely similar to those used by well-known brands for the equipment of national teams and NHL teams.
The composition of all knitted fabrics is 100% polyester, density 190 - 230 g / m2.

Polyester is considered to be one of the most popular. According to various estimates, polyester fiber accounts for about 60% of the textile market. Polyester is used for sewing light dresses, outerwear, upholstery, workwear and much more.

Many people try to choose clothes from completely, believing that synthetic material is harmful and uncomfortable to wear. This opinion is not entirely fair. High-quality polyester, produced on modern equipment, is not only safe, but also practical, beautiful and inexpensive material.

Polyester is a fabric made from polyester fibers.

It should be borne in mind that the inscription "100% polyester" can be on the labels of products that are completely different in appearance and properties. The characteristics depend on the shape of the fiber and its additional processing.

Production

Pure polyester is made from oil, gas and their derivatives. The process takes place in several stages:

  • Isolation of components required for the manufacture of polystyrene (raw material for future fibers).
  • Getting a melt - liquid polyester.
  • Mechanical and chemical cleaning of polyester.
  • Fiber production: The semi-liquid mass is forced through very narrow openings.
  • Finishing, refining and giving additional qualities to the threads.
  • Making the fabric directly.

In an effort to perfect polyester, chemists are combining polyester with a variety of natural, synthetic, and man-made fibers. As a result, fabrics that are unlike each other are obtained, which are not inferior in quality and beauty to natural materials.

The quality of the fabric depends on adherence to the technological process. Good polyester does not have an unpleasant odor; such synthetics do not leave paint marks on the skin and do not fade. Wearing clothes made of high-quality synthetic material, you can comfortably play sports, relax or work physically.

Appearance and main characteristics

100% polyester can be a thin translucent veil or strong raincoat fabric. The appearance and properties of polyester fiber fabrics depend on the chemical composition of the raw materials, the fiber shape and the type of weave. Very often, polyester looks and feels like, and its properties are reminiscent of cotton.

Description of polyester:

  1. High degree of protection against adverse weather conditions (low temperatures, wind, ultraviolet radiation, rain and snow). Polyester clothing is almost always warm and dry.
  2. Wear resistance. Polyester fiber is resistant to stretching, abrasion and other types of physical stress.
  3. Easy maintenance. Polyester is easy to wash, dries quickly and hardly wrinkles.
  4. Good drape. The fabric is easy to cut, sew and process.
  5. Fastness of color and shape. With proper care, polyester will not fade or fade.
  6. Low weight.
  7. Lower cost compared to natural fabrics.
  8. Protection against pests and mold. 100% synthetics will not interest moth larvae or other insects.
  9. Good water repellency. Besides protection from precipitation, this quality prevents stains.
  10. Low elasticity. Thanks to this, the fabric does not stretch, and the clothes retain their shape well.
  11. Does not absorb odors.

Changes in shape with strong heating can be attributed to both disadvantages and advantages of the fabric. On the one hand, this provides additional opportunities for designing clothes or decorating. Indeed, in order to obtain all the necessary elements, it is enough to heat the fabric, form and fix the desired fold. On the other hand, with careless ironing, you can get an unwanted curl or fold on your clothes, which will be impossible to get rid of.

Dense knitwear, openwork lace, warm lining or smooth elastane are obtained by using various methods of joining fibers and weaving threads. The variety of fabric textures will satisfy the most fastidious fashion designer.

Cons and Weaknesses:

  1. High density. It is important to remember that the properties of pure polyester garments make them uncomfortable in hot weather.
  2. Inability to use chemical bleaches. Polyester fiber can break.
  3. Electrification. Synthetics accumulate static electricity, which can cause dust particles to stick to clothes, and the fabric itself is attracted to the skin. These disadvantages can be easily eliminated by using an antistatic agent or special fabric softener. Many manufacturers add fibers with an antistatic effect to the yarn.
  4. Some rigidity of the material. Sometimes elastane or cotton is added to make it softer.
  5. If technology is violated, polyester fiber can cause allergies. When buying clothes, remember that too cheap polyester can be harmful to your health.
  6. The fiber is difficult to dye.

Care rules

There are no special requirements for the care of polyester, but in order to preserve the original characteristics of the product, when washing and ironing it, you need to follow simple rules:

  1. Observe the manufacturer's recommendations. This is especially important for clothing that has special properties (heat and moisture protection).
  2. When choosing a washing mode, it is important to remember how many degrees polyester clothes can withstand. Polyester can usually be washed at 40 ᵒC and below. Hotter water will deform the fiber, and the item will lose its shape.
  3. It is best to choose a mode for washing synthetics or delicate.
  4. The fabric cannot be bleached. Clothes with tough stains can be dry-cleaned.
  5. For particularly delicate fabrics, hand wash is advisable.
  6. It is better to wash things, turning them inside out so as not to damage the front side.
  7. Certain types of polyester, such as knitwear, must not be twisted too much after washing.
  8. To prevent the fabric from wrinkling, you need to hang the product on a hanger after washing and straighten it well.
  9. How to iron polyester if the clothes are crumpled? This can be done, but at a minimum temperature from the seamy side through a thin cotton cloth or gauze.
  10. Some polyester materials cannot be ironed.

On the net you can find tips that a polyester thing can be stretched. To do this, it is proposed to rinse it in a warm vinegar solution, stretch it and fix it until it dries completely. There is no guarantee that the experiment will be successful. But it is very easy to spoil clothes in this way.

The material, which is 100% polyester, is quite cheap in cost, so it is loved by people who are just beginning to comprehend the basics of sewing.

Types of materials and applications

Nowadays, polyester fiber is rarely used in its pure form. Elastane, cotton, viscose and other components are added to the thread. This makes it possible to obtain a fabric, knitted fabric or non-woven fabric with additional properties. Polyester is most often added to increase the strength and durability of the product.

Elastane in combination with polyester enhances the elasticity of the fabric. It stretches better, which allows the use of elastane in the production of underwear, sportswear, swimwear. The most common formulations for stretch polyester are elastane (5-15%) and polyester (85-95%).

General description of the fabric, which contains polyester and elastane:

  • perfectly stretches in one direction, and sometimes in all;
  • resistant to wear;
  • does not wrinkle;
  • most often has a smooth front surface;
  • no greenhouse effect when worn;
  • keeps its shape well after washing.

What is the now popular oil material made of? This is a jersey that contains polyester and elastane. Such jersey keeps warm well, but does not interfere with air circulation, dense and rather heavy.

This is also knitwear with a significant polyester content (70%) and viscose (30%), in appearance resembling natural silk. This material stretches well in any direction, then takes on its original shape.

What are the numerous types of insulation made of? The basis for their production is polyester fiber. Non-woven fabric obtained from polyester is used as a filler for outerwear. Such heaters are called differently and retain heat to varying degrees. The most famous polyester nonwoven fabric is holofiber. Its hollow fiber provides better protection from the cold, does not fall off and keeps the shape of the product after washing.

Polyester accounts for about half of the textiles produced. What kind of fabric is it, what is it made of? There is an opinion that they are harmful, inconvenient and ugly. This is not entirely true: high-quality polyester is not only pleasant to look and feel, but also safe and practical. Let's find out what synthetic matter is good for and how to care for it.

Composition and manufacture

What is polyester? It is a material made from polyesters - refined products. Production includes several stages:

  • the selection of components for the manufacture of polystyrene;
  • obtaining liquid polystyrene from them;
  • cleaning: mechanical and chemical;
  • fiber production;
  • finishing the threads, giving them the desired properties;
  • fabric production.

Despite the fact that polyester is made from refined products, its characteristics are similar to natural matter - cotton. Pure polyester looks more like wool in appearance. Fabric characteristic: a good sample does not have an unpleasant odor, does not leave marks on the skin after wearing, does not fade. It is comfortable to play sports in clothes made of polyester fabric, it allows the body to breathe. Synthetic textiles are also suitable for creating leisure wear.

In addition to the versatility of polyester textiles, it is worth noting its stability. It perfectly retains its shape at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees. Therefore, the manufacturer indicates on the label that the product is washed at this temperature. Fortunately, the fabric can also be washed well in cold water.

Advantages and disadvantages

The positive properties include:

  1. Strength, durability. Does polyester stretch or not? This material in its pure form is resistant to stretching and other physical influences; additional fibers are included in the composition for elasticity.
  2. Easy to wash. The fabric dries quickly, after washing it almost does not wrinkle.
  3. Polyester keeps warm and does not get wet, so it is often used for sewing outerwear. Synthetics protect against adverse weather conditions: wind, rain and snow. Such clothes are comfortable to be in cold weather.
  4. Polyester is easy to cut and sew on textiles. The fabric drapes well.
  5. It is a light fabric, pleasant to the body, with a cooling effect.
  6. Quality polyester-based materials look beautiful.
  7. With proper care, it retains a rich color, does not deform.
  8. Plus synthetics: it is not of interest to insects. There is no need to be afraid of moths and other pests.
  9. The fabric is resistant to odors and stubborn grease stains.
  10. Low cost allows synthetics to compete with natural fabrics in the textile market.

But the material has quite a few drawbacks:

  1. It is electrified. Due to the accumulation of static electricity, dust sticks to the products, and the fabric itself sticks to the skin. To eliminate this disadvantage, you have to use an antistatic agent or buy a special conditioner for washing. Some manufacturers add antistatic fibers to the fabric to solve the problem.
  2. Pure polyester is quite tough and can chafe. To soften the fabric, natural cotton fibers or elastane are added to it.
  3. Polyester clothing is not suitable for hot weather due to its density.
  4. To remove stubborn stains from this type of synthetic fabric, you will have to try, since chemical bleaches damage the fibers.
  5. Polyester fabric can cause allergies, so these clothes are harmful to health, especially cheap ones.
  6. The fabric is highly flammable.

The variety of textures is possible due to the different ways of weaving the threads and the addition of other fibers. This is how lace, warm lining appears.

Some properties of synthetic matter cannot be unambiguously described as positive or negative. So, low elasticity allows clothes to keep their shape, but partly hinders movement. A controversial property is the ability to change shape when heated. This feature is useful when creating folds: you just need to iron the fabric with a hot iron and fix the desired fold. But with careless use of the iron, this property will play a cruel joke with you: one awkward movement, and a bend will appear, which is difficult to get rid of.

Types of matter and their application

Pure polyester is a smooth, silk-like fabric. Products made from 100 percent polyester are rare. The most popular additive is cotton; combinations with wool and viscose are also used. So, polyester + viscose is a durable and elastic material. Not less often, polyester itself acts as an additive. A blend of polyester and elastane - a polyurethane synthetic fiber - a material with a high elasticity. The fabric, which contains these components, is resistant to deformation and wear, is breathable, and looks beautiful.

Popular polyester fabrics:

  1. The oil is knitted fabric, dense and warm.
  2. Micro oil - a combination of polyester (70%) and viscose (30%). This knitwear is reminiscent of silk in appearance.
  3. Polyester stretch fabric - 5-15% elastane and 85-95% polyester. Used for sewing tracksuits, underwear, swimwear.

Lining and upholstery materials are most often made from polyester fibers. They do not allow moisture and heat to pass through, do not wrinkle, and retain their original properties for a long time. The lining for outerwear has increased heat-shielding properties. Suits, jackets, trousers, bags, backpacks also have a polyester lining. Another industry where polyester has been used is home textiles. Synthetics are added to curtain fabrics, rugs, rugs, blankets, bedding, tablecloths.

Holofiber - a filler for outerwear - is obtained from polyester fibers. It retains heat well. These materials are also made of polyester:

  • isosoft,
  • polyfiber,
  • Fiberskin,
  • thermofab.

Care rules

How to extend the life of your favorite synthetic products and not spoil new ones:

  1. Polyester clothes are washed at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.
  2. In washing machines, a mode for synthetics is provided, just as gentle - a delicate mode. It is better to wash especially delicate fabrics by hand without washing.
  3. Do not use bleach. It is better to have the item dry cleaned.
  4. The stain can be removed with soapy water or a mild stain remover.
  5. Polyester jersey does not need to be twisted when spinning.
  6. After washing, the thing is dried, having previously straightened it. So she will not wrinkle.
  7. Iron things from the wrong side at the lowest temperature. It is better to protect the fabric with gauze. If you stroke the front side, an ugly shine may appear.

Advice
Always check the directions on the label if the item has special properties (such as moisture protection). Some fibers cannot be ironed. The manufacturer's recommendations will allow you to avoid unpleasant situations.

Polyester is a versatile fabric that is used all over the place for its positive characteristics. Despite its many advantages, the polyester material is still synthetic. And only you can decide whether to buy textiles made from natural fabrics, or to give preference to more affordable polyester.

When buying clothes and various fabrics, we are increasingly faced with a material such as polyester. What kind of fabric, and what are its advantages, is described in this article.

What it is

This is a synthetic fabric, which is made from polyester fibers that have the ability to maintain their original shape when heated to no higher than 40 degrees. Therefore, it is recommended to wash polyester fabric at water temperature up to 40 ºС.

Synthetic products have excellent performance, are easy to wash and are resistant to direct sunlight. Also, polyester fabric has a cooling effect, due to which it is widely used for sewing clothes. This fabric resembles ordinary wool in appearance, but, judging by its characteristics, it looks more like cotton.

In the modern textile industry, polyester is increasingly used. What kind of fabric is this - every person knows well. Bedding, clothes, curtains and even cloth toys are made from synthetic fabric.

Properties of polyester fabric

Polyester fabric has the following properties:

  • high strength;
  • greater wear resistance compared to natural fabrics;
  • high resistance to ultraviolet rays and heat;
  • does not wrinkle;
  • perfectly retains its shape;
  • easy to wash and dry quickly;
  • does not require special care.

Fabric composition polyester

Pure polyester fabric is very rare. It is mainly added to other fabrics.

Most often, polyester is added to viscose. Thus, it is possible to give the fabric strength, elasticity and increase wear resistance.

If elastane is added to viscose and polyester, a synthetic material called "micro-oil" is obtained. Blouses, light blouses, summer dresses, etc. are sewn from fabric of this composition.

A fabric consisting of polyester and cotton has good qualities. Such material is very durable, wears well and washes well, dries quickly and does not stretch after prolonged wear.

If we talk about a fabric made of 100% polyester, it is called “decorative silk” for its softness and exceptional appearance.

Manufacturing

Polyester is made from a material called polyamide. It is a plastic that is obtained on the basis of synthetic high molecular weight compounds. The first synthetic polyamide was produced in 1862. But the mass production of synthetic material began only in the middle of the 20th century. At first, various packaging products, adhesive tape, bags and containers for storing products were made from polyester.

The unique chemical composition, low cost and practicality in use made such a material as polyester very popular. What kind of fabric - all countries of the world soon learned. Curtains, pillowcases, underwear, tablecloths, draperies began to be massively sewn from this material. Even carpets and upholstery for upholstered furniture began to be made of polyester.

At the moment, polyester fabric is in great demand and is used in many industries.

Application

In our time, it is impossible to find a sphere of human activity in which this material would not be applied. Polyester fabrics are produced in huge quantities all over the world. Large volumes of production are due to the active demand for products from synthetic material.

Various clothes, bedding sets, bedspreads, packing covers, hairdressing capes, overalls for employees of various enterprises, tulles, curtains are often sewn from polyester.

Also, synthetic fabric is used for the production of specific products: overalls and bags for climbers, signboards, various decorations, screens, umbrellas.

The use of polyester fabric depends a lot on the type of thread. So, curtains, tulles, knitwear, umbrella and raincoat fabrics are produced from smooth synthetic threads. Textured yarns are mainly used in the production of suiting and dress fabrics.

Advantages and disadvantages

The material, which is 100% polyester, has the following advantages:

  1. Beautiful appearance and unusual shine of the fabric surface.
  2. Polyester fabric is easy to dye, thanks to which manufacturers have the opportunity to diversify products from this material.
  3. A wide variety of textures: thin or dense material, fabric with a glossy or matte surface.
  4. The fabric is pleasant to the touch.
  5. Synthetic products have a long service life. Clothes and bed linen do not fade or lose their shape even after numerous washes.
  6. Low weight of fabric of fine texture and ability to keep its shape, which is very important for clothing designers. These qualities allow you to create complex models with folds.
  7. Low maintenance costs for synthetic products.
  8. The ability to quickly absorb moisture, sweat and dry out in a small amount of time.
  9. Low cost of products in comparison with analogues made of natural fabric.

Disadvantages of the material:

  1. Don't forget that polyester is synthetic. Clothes made from this fabric do not provide normal breathability. Therefore, synthetic clothing is not suitable for wearing on hot summer days.
  2. The possibility of allergic skin rashes. Synthetic clothing is not suitable for all people. Sometimes there are situations when, after wearing polyester clothing, rashes or diaper rash occur. Therefore, doctors recommend people with sensitive skin to buy clothes made from natural fabrics.
  3. Long-term wearing of polyester clothing disrupts normal sweating and the processes that occur through the skin pores.
