What will help a runny nose during pregnancy. The most common causes of a cold during pregnancy. Homemade drip recipes

Pregnancy is an amazing condition, since at this moment two hearts are beating inside a woman. Unfortunately, this period does not always go smoothly. During this time, the immune system is very weakened, which makes the body susceptible to viral infections. One of the symptoms of the disease is a runny nose, which brings a lot of inconvenience. In addition, it is forbidden to use many medications that will quickly eliminate the problem that has arisen. Future mothers are often interested in: "How to treat a runny nose during pregnancy?" The answer to this question is in the article.

The reasons for the appearance of a runny nose and its danger, what to do

The main cause of rhinitis is viral infections that enter the woman's body. In addition to a runny nose, they can cause sore throat, fever, joint aches, and other symptoms of the common cold. However, in addition to the main cause of the unpleasant complication, there may be others that depend on the duration of pregnancy. Rhinitis brings a lot of unpleasant sensations not only to the expectant mother, but also to her child.

1 trimester of pregnancy

In the early stages, nasal congestion accompanies one in three pregnant women in the world. This complication is especially manifested at night, which prevents proper rest. If rhinitis is not a symptom of colds, then it does not pose a serious health hazard.

During this period of time, a runny nose appears for several reasons:

  • colds, can provoke cough and runny nose;
  • injury to the inner mucous membrane;
  • an allergy that worsens during pregnancy;
  • dry indoor air.

The main way to get rid of rhinitis early in pregnancy is to eliminate the root cause of it.

Short-term rhinitis in the 1st trimester is not dangerous, since it does not harm the development of the fetus. However, if it becomes chronic, then you should be wary and take measures to eliminate it. It is forbidden to treat rhinitis with medications that are incompatible with pregnancy. They have a detrimental effect on the formation of the organs and systems of the child.

2nd trimester of pregnancy

Rhinitis in the middle of pregnancy begins due to hormonal changes in a woman's body. At 12 weeks, the fetus begins to actively grow, so it requires more nutrition. For this, the endocrine system begins to produce more hormones (progesterone and estrogen). They dilate all blood vessels in the body, including the nose. Such changes provoke a runny nose.

In the early stages, the perception of surrounding objects is aggravated, which can cause an allergic reaction. Allergens provoke an unpleasant runny nose, which complicates a woman's life. The appearance of an unpleasant symptom due to viral infections that can enter the body was no exception.

A prolonged runny nose in the 2nd trimester is very dangerous. If a woman cannot breathe freely, then the required amount of oxygen is not supplied to the fetus. The wrong process causes serious disruptions in the development and formation of the unborn child. Breathing oxygen through the mouth leaves behind harmful infectious particles that can infect a child.

3rd trimester of pregnancy

In late pregnancy, almost 50% of women suffer from a runny nose. This is due to the increase in hormones. Sometimes rhinitis begins a week before childbirth and is accompanied by a hoarse voice and impairment of hearing and smell. However, after childbirth, all symptoms disappear.

Prolonged rhinitis in the 3rd trimester is very dangerous for the normal development of the fetus. Lack of oxygen does not allow the child's organs to develop fully. A runny nose caused by acute respiratory infections can provoke premature birth, as well as go to the newborn baby. In addition, a variety of allergens can cause the unpleasant symptom.

Important! The use of many drugs at any stage of pregnancy is strictly prohibited. The components of the remedy freely penetrate the placenta and poison the child. It is necessary to consult a doctor for advice. He will be able to give recommendations on what can be done to pregnant women from a cold.

Treatment of a common cold during pregnancy with medications

A variety of factors can trigger a runny nose during pregnancy and require specific treatments. During this period, it is forbidden to carry out therapy by any permitted means, since they disrupt the full development of the unborn child. In the treatment of a cold, a woman should be selective and be sure to consult a doctor. How to cure a runny nose using approved drugs?

  1. Drops from the common cold for pregnant women. Prescribed in extreme cases, if the woman's breathing is difficult. All drugs penetrate into the blood vessels, including the placenta, which adversely affects the fetus. Vasoconstrictor drops are contraindicated for expectant mothers. A woman should pay attention to baby drops or herbal preparations. Among the most common medications, doctors recommend:
  • Nazivin, Vibrocil, Nazik-spray, Rinazolin;
  • sometimes naftizin, Galazolin are prescribed;
  • Pinosol.

  1. Spray for the common cold. It is worth choosing medicines based on natural ingredients that effectively relieve a woman of an unpleasant symptom. Many experts prefer a nasal spray that contains sea water. There is a whole series of Aqua-Maris preparations, which not only prevent rhinitis, but also increase immunity. Doctors identify several drugs based on seawater:
  • Aqualor Norm is used to eliminate allergic and infectious rhinitis;
  • Aqualor Forte - prescribed for severe rhinitis, as well as chronic rhinitis;
  • Aqualor Soft - used for nasopharyngeal congestion and dryness in the nasal passages;
  • Aqualor Extra is a drug with enhanced effects on the body.

The qualitative properties of sea salt allow you to effectively flush out infectious bacteria from the nasal cavity, moisturize the mucous membrane and relieve puffiness.

  1. Ointment for rhinitis. As a rule, in pregnant women, a severe runny nose is always accompanied by additional symptoms of colds. Often not only the nose needs treatment, but also the throat. Doctors recommend that women use ointments that effectively restore the health of the expectant mother and do not harm the baby. Usually doctors recommend:
  • Oxolin;
  • Dr. Mom;
  • Evamenol;
  • Star;
  • homeopathic medicine Tuya;
  • Fleming.

Important! Any pharmacological agent should be prescribed only by a doctor. Before use, you must carefully read the instructions.

Treatment with folk remedies

The old "grandmother's" methods are more relevant today than ever for the treatment of rhinitis in pregnant women. They contain natural ingredients that facilitate the condition of the expectant mother and do not harm the baby. There are many traditional medicines, but below are the most effective treatments.

This method allows you to remove accumulated mucus, clear the nasal passages of dust and eliminate infection. For the procedure, you can use various folk remedies:

  • saline solution. Dilute 1 tbsp in 250 ml of warm water. a spoonful of sea salt. The solution is used to wash the nose 3-4 times a day;
  • camomile tea. To prepare broths, take 2 tbsp. spoons of chamomile flowers and pour 250 ml of boiling water. The mixture is infused for 30 minutes, and then filtered. You can rinse your nose with a decoction and just bury it. The procedure is carried out up to 6 times a day.

The prepared medicinal solution can be stored for no more than 24 hours.

Inhalation of the nasopharynx during pregnancy

Inhalation effectively affects the respiratory tract. The procedure loosens mucus and flushes it out naturally. However, it can only be done at normal body temperature. If its level is increased, then inhalation can provoke a miscarriage.

The procedure is allowed to be carried out on the basis of such medicines:

  • pharmacy chamomile;
  • eucalyptus leaves;
  • thyme;
  • coltsfoot;
  • potato.

If a woman is worried about a runny nose and throat, then it is necessary to breathe through the nose and mouth at the same time.

Warming up the nose with rhinitis

Warming up can be done at home. It stimulates blood flow to organs, including the nose. The blood contains immune cells that spread throughout the body and destroy viral infections. Folk remedies offer several effective ways to carry out the procedure:

  • boil a hard-boiled egg and apply it to the nose;
  • heat the salt well, put it in a cloth bag and apply to the nose.

During warming up, it is important to use objects that are not too hot, otherwise you may get burned.

It is important for expectant mothers to make efforts to keep their health normal. It is necessary to purchase a humidifier to maintain the humidity in the room, and also try to avoid colds. Observing simple rules, a woman will preserve her health and protect the unborn baby.

During pregnancy, many women develop cold symptoms. Especially often expectant mothers complain of a runny nose. The mucous membranes of the nose become inflamed for various reasons, usually this is due to a decrease in the protective functions of the immune system while carrying a baby. It is the mucous membranes lining the nasopharynx that are a barrier to bacteria, viruses, allergens and temperature effects.

In ordinary life, it is not difficult to overcome a cold, but in anticipation of the birth of a child, you cannot use many of the usual drugs. How and how to treat a runny nose during pregnancy? What tools can you use to keep your child safe?

How dangerous is a cold during pregnancy?

The degree of danger of colds during pregnancy depends on the intensity of their course, the woman's immunity, the timeliness of treatment and correctly selected medicines. The greatest risk arises when inflammation of the respiratory system and a runny nose begins in early pregnancy. In the first trimester, the formation of vital systems occurs in the embryo.

With an increase in the duration of pregnancy, the potential harm to the baby from the diseases suffered by the mother decreases. This is due to the growth of the placenta and the work of the fetus's own immune system.

The impact of any infection can adversely affect the development of the child at any stage of his development:

  • Complications of respiratory infections in the early stages often lead to pathologies in physical development. Fetal death or spontaneous abortion may occur.
  • The harm from ARVI during the second trimester can be expressed in improper formation of bone tissue, pathologies of the baby's nervous system, hypoxia. In addition, premature labor may begin.
  • A cold in the third trimester carries the danger of infecting the baby from the mother. Fetoplacental insufficiency often results from colds. The likelihood of premature labor increases.

Experts identify a number of important stages of pregnancy, when the influence of a cold can be especially dangerous. So, in the 3rd trimester for a period of 28 weeks, there is a high probability of changes in the composition of the amniotic fluid and intrauterine infection of the fetus. At 30 weeks, maternal illness can cause premature birth. Colds suffered by a woman at 35 weeks sometimes reduce the intensity of milk production after the birth of the baby.

At 36–37 weeks, the placental barrier weakens, so toxic substances are more likely to penetrate the amniotic fluid. At the end of the third trimester, at 38–39 weeks, the baby is susceptible to infection from his mother. Also at this time, the risk of entanglement with the umbilical cord increases if, due to the woman's condition, he feels discomfort and is excessively active.

A runny nose during pregnancy can be due to physiological reasons, but sometimes it is one of the signs of infection and then becomes dangerous for the fetus. How, when nasal discharge appears, to determine their true cause and distinguish pathology from physiological rhinitis? It is extremely important to correctly and timely establish the source of the common cold.

Unlike the common cold, chronic vasomotor rhinitis during pregnancy is not accompanied by fever, inflammation and intoxication of the body. The expectant mother does not have a feeling of fatigue, she does not lose her appetite and is in a good mood.

In viral or bacterial diseases of the respiratory tract, green snot is released from the nasal passages. To them are added such manifestations as headache, sore throat, muscle aches, cough, chills, watery eyes, severe weakness, fever.

Allergic rhinitis is associated with a feeling of pain in the eyes, skin reactions, and frequent sneezing. With allergies, the nasal discharge has a watery consistency.

Symptoms of rhinitis during pregnancy are mild. The main signs of physiological rhinitis include:

  • a feeling of nasal congestion;
  • small transparent mucous discharge;
  • sneezing;
  • dryness in the nasal passages;
  • decreased sense of smell.

Rhinitis of a physiological nature gives a pregnant woman constant discomfort, but does not harm her unborn baby. All signs of this condition disappear without additional therapy immediately after childbirth. To smooth out the manifestations of rhinitis while carrying a child, you need to contact a specialist who will select a treatment for a cold that is safe for the fetus and mother.

Medication treatment

If a woman is worried about snot during pregnancy, it is necessary to take measures to eliminate the runny nose and restore natural breathing through the nose. This will help avoid possible complications and the spread of the infection. It is important to remember that most drugs have a toxic effect on the fetus in the womb and lead to serious consequences. For this reason, it is very difficult to find the right treatment for a pregnant woman.

In some cases, folk methods help to cope with rhinitis. If with their help the desired effect is achieved and breathing is normalized, then it will be enough for a woman to take vitamin complexes for some time in order to maintain immunity.

However, folk remedies do not always help with colds, especially when the infection is of bacterial origin. In this case, the snot turns green or yellow. In order to prevent the deterioration of the future mother's condition, the doctor has to use drug therapy. For women in position, medications should be taken in exceptional cases when infection or complications pose a more serious danger to the baby than taking medication.

Pharmaceutical preparations of general action

If a pregnant woman has a cold and is not helped by treatment according to folk recipes, she may be prescribed drugs that stimulate the immune system. Usually, doctors try to avoid using these substances in the first two trimesters of pregnancy, but in the last weeks of bearing a baby, immunomodulators are prescribed quite often. At the same time, one should not forget about the risk to which the fetus is exposed to drug treatment.

Among the means used in pregnancy include medicines, the action of which is based on interferon. It is this substance that is produced by the human body during the periods of fighting infections. For this reason, this group of drugs is one of the safest drugs. They come in a variety of forms. So, Viferon suppositories are intended for rectal administration, and Genferon - rectally or vaginally. In tablets, you can find drugs such as Anaferon and Cycloferon. There are also interferon ointments, such as Infagel, and Interferon nasal drops.

The expectant mother should take these medicines in accordance with the instructions, without exceeding the recommended dosage. The result of using such drugs is an increase in the activity of the immune system and a victory over the common cold.

If the disease is caused by the penetration of the virus into the body of a pregnant woman, then you will have to resort to antiviral medications. Kagocel, Ergoferon and similar substances are considered relatively safe. However, they should not be taken in the first trimester. Only a doctor should prescribe these drugs.

The most harmless medicine approved for use during pregnancy is Oscillococcinum, which belongs to the group of homeopathic remedies (we recommend reading :). It consists of natural ingredients, therefore it is not capable of harming the embryo and the expectant mother. In accordance with the instructions of the instructions, the substance is taken no longer than 3 days.

Topical remedies for rhinitis and nasal congestion

Popular vasoconstrictor drugs that are used for nasal congestion with or without heavy discharge are not recommended for a cold during pregnancy. Such well-known sprays and nasal drops, such as Sanorin, Galazolin, Nazivin, quickly relieve the symptoms of a runny nose and eliminate nasal congestion, but at the same time they can cause impaired blood circulation in the placenta and harm the developing baby.

An effective method of getting rid of nasal secretions is flushing, which helps eliminate mucus. You can rinse your nose with pharmaceutical preparations made from sea salt (Aquamaris, Aqualor, Salin, Quicks, Rinolux). An alternative version of the composition for washing is a saline solution or a decoction of chamomile flowers (for more details, see the article :). To eliminate a runny nose, rinse the nasal passages with saline solution 4 times a day. If you do rinsing regularly, then the runny nose goes away quickly enough.

Some doctors, in addition to washing with saline, prescribe drugs with a vasoconstrictor effect to their pregnant patients, used in childhood. These drugs are characterized by a reduced content of the active ingredient. They are prescribed for chronic and severe rhinitis in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, so that a woman carrying a child can get enough sleep.

How to get rid of sore throat and cough?

To get rid of a sore throat, pregnant women should not use sprays that include ethanol. To eliminate pain in the throat, it is allowed to use Miramistin spray, as well as a decoction of chamomile and Chlorhexidine for gargling (we recommend reading :).

Expectant mothers can suck Lizobakt lollipops. Their main active ingredient is lysozyme. This natural enzyme poses no threat to the embryo. Mint and eucalyptus lozenges are also allowed during pregnancy.

You can get rid of a cough with the help of homeopathic medicines. Often, pregnant women are prescribed Gedelix, Doctor Mom, plantain syrup. In addition, Mukaltin, produced in the form of tablets, effectively copes with dry and productive coughs.

To cure a dry cough, the doctor recommends the woman inhalation, which helps to thin the bronchial mucus. For inhalation, it is better to prepare a decoction with camphor oil or thyme. With a productive cough, drugs are not used, since liquid sputum freely leaves the bronchi.

What to do with an elevated temperature?

To bring down the temperature during pregnancy, you can take Paracetamol. It should be remembered that the medicine should be used only when the temperature rises above 37.5-38 degrees. Smaller thermometer readings indicate that the immune system is working and fighting infection. If you take a drug for fever with insufficiently high values of the thermometer, then the condition can be aggravated, since the infection will continue to attack the body.

Traditional medicine help

Green snot during pregnancy and swelling of the nasal mucosa at home can be eliminated with onion drops. The medication recipe is pretty simple. Onions are chopped and mixed with honey in a 1: 1 ratio. It is advisable to use lime honey for the preparation of drops. The mixture is infused until the juice separates. The resulting liquid must be poured into a glass container and used up to 4 times a day.

You can treat a runny nose with gauze tampons dipped in medicinal tinctures. Vegetable and essential oils are used as ingredients of the medicinal mixture. It is based on corn, olive or sunflower oil in the amount of 1 tablespoon. It needs to be slightly warmed up in a water bath. Then add 2 drops of essential oil (eucalyptus, tea tree) to warm vegetable oil. This composition is well impregnated with tampons, which are inserted into the nasal passages. The exposure time is from 15 to 30 minutes.

What to do with a runny nose during pregnancy? Many women, while awaiting the birth of a child, are wary of pharmaceutical drugs, preferring proven home remedies. Home treatment does not require parting with the usual comfort, which means it eliminates the likelihood of stress from changing living and resting conditions. At the same time, the body of a pregnant woman can react differently to medicines, even if they are prepared with their own hands. This requires confidence in the safety of any of the homemade recipes. How to cure a runny nose during pregnancy at home and what you need to know while doing this?

Woman with runny nose

Pregnancy is a special period during which the woman's body is rebuilt in order to provide conditions for the full development of the child. Changes occur, including in the immune system, so it is necessary to be careful, avoid drafts, dress for the weather, and not come into contact with people who carry SARS and other infections. In this case, a runny nose in a pregnant woman may be:

  • infectious;
  • traumatic;
  • allergic;
  • vasomotor.

It is not worth treating allergies at home, especially when carrying a child - it is not known how the body will react to home remedies. However, the same applies to any type of rhinitis - before using alternative methods, it is better to consult with your doctor. Home remedies cannot be considered a priori safe, far from it. In addition, unlike pharmaceutical preparations, it is difficult to calculate the exact dosage, to predict what the effect will be and when it will appear during the preparation of the product at home.

If a pregnant woman has a cold, a runny nose alone is unlikely to be enough. It is worth paying attention not only to the restoration of nasal breathing, but also to the fight against fever, intoxication, sore throat, and cough. The expectant mother is responsible not only for her own health, but also for the health and proper development of the child, therefore, in this case, you should first consult a doctor who will determine the severity of the course of the disease, possible risks and advise which of the alternative methods can be safe.

We must also not forget that during pregnancy a special type of rhinitis may occur -. This is a type of vasomotor, or vasomotor disorders, due to which the turbinates swell, the nasal passages narrow, and breathing through the nose becomes much more difficult or stops altogether. Such rhinitis is not associated with infection and not with the inflammatory process in the usual understanding of it. Its development is due to the presence of autonomic dysfunction, changes in the endocrine system. It must be treated under the supervision of a doctor; folk remedies, as a rule, are ineffective. Treatment of a common cold during pregnancy at home depends on the cause of its occurrence.

Folk recipes

What home remedies can you make to get rid of rhinitis? Most often we are talking about a cold rhinitis. In this disease, you can use anti-inflammatory components, plants containing antimicrobial substances - phytoncides.

Onion

Onions are very often used to treat the common cold, as they contain a significant amount of phytoncides. The disadvantage of treatment with it is the risk of burns to the mucous membrane of the nose and throat, the development of an allergic reaction.

Onions can be treated in different ways, but during pregnancy it is worth choosing the safest options. It is better to refuse to instill even diluted onion juice into the nose. Alternatively, it is suggested to breathe over a plate filled with chopped onions. In this case, it is necessary to protect the eyes, keep the dishes at a distance of 40-50 cm, and continue the procedure for no longer than 5 minutes. During the day, it can be repeated several times, preparing a fresh onion.

Carrot

Plain carrots can be a useful aid in the fight against rhinitis. During pregnancy, it is used:

  • lubrication of the mucous membrane with clean, strained juice;
  • gargling with carrot juice (rhinitis is often combined with pharyngitis, so this method will not be superfluous);
  • breathing over a plate of chopped carrots for 20 minutes, you do not need to close your eyes.

Lemon

You can use sliced lemon by adding it to tea or water. Essential oil is also useful - treatment is carried out by adding it to the aroma lamp. Before the procedure, you should make sure that there are no allergies.

Honey

During pregnancy, you can combine several home treatments for a common cold, but take breaks between treatments.

Home methods

It is worth treating a runny nose not only with the help of medicinal plants, honey or vegetable juices. It is necessary to combine the use of folk recipes with non-medicinal methods that can be successfully used at home even during pregnancy:

  1. Providing comfortable humidity and temperature in the room.

In a room where a pregnant woman spends most of the day, it is necessary to maintain the humidity level within 50-70%, and the air temperature - 20-23 ° C. At the same time, it is important to focus also on your own feelings - you should not freeze if these parameters are not comfortable. At the same time, it must be remembered that sufficient moisture and moderate temperature conditions help to facilitate mucus excretion, prevent dryness of the nasal mucosa, and are important in the fight against edema.

  1. Rinsing the nose.

If there are no contraindications (for example, otitis media), to facilitate nasal breathing, you can rinse the nose with a saline solution (for example, 0.9% sodium chloride solution). The procedure is carried out several times a day, it helps to cleanse the nasal cavity from secretions, eliminate dryness and burning sensation, and avoid too frequent use of vasoconstrictors. However, it is forbidden to flush if nasal breathing is completely blocked - infected mucus can get into the auditory tube, which will cause a dangerous disease - tubo-otitis.

  1. Dust removal, ventilation.

It is necessary to ventilate and carry out wet cleaning with a cold in a pregnant woman regularly, but in her absence in the room, otherwise the whole point of the event is lost - the patient cannot breathe the rising dust and be in a draft.

If the doctor determines that a runny nose is associated with an allergy, a hypoallergenic diet will be required, the appointment of special antiallergic drugs. Home methods in this case provide for the maximum release of the surrounding space from allergens - dust, feather pillows, household chemicals.

During pregnancy, a woman is prone to colds, which require compulsory treatment. Folk remedies for the common cold during pregnancy are increasingly used as the safest therapeutic methods. Getting rid of a cold includes the use of local remedies, which are based on natural ingredients.

Despite the safety and rather high efficiency, folk remedies have a certain therapeutic specificity, therefore, their use must be coordinated with the attending physician. Today, expectant mothers use the direction of traditional medicine as a method of treatment and prevention.

Types of medicines for the common cold

Standard methods are used based on the application of:

  • vasoconstrictor drugs of pharmacological production;
  • saline solutions;
  • plant-based nasal drops;
  • homeopathic preparations of a wide spectrum of action.

In addition, vasoconstrictor drugs that are prescribed by doctors for a cold - Naphthyzin, Tizin, Oxymetazoline, with prolonged use, can have an effect on nasal congestion, but also cause vasoconstriction in the placenta. Drugs in this group can cause fetal hypoxia - a violation of oxygen metabolism and, as a result, abnormal development of the child.

Plant-based drops are allowed to be used by pregnant women, but their treatment does not always give a positive result. The drug Pinosol is recommended as the safest of all nasal agents during pregnancy, but, as statistics indicate, it does not help all women.

In the treatment of rhinitis, much attention is paid to ensuring that the components that are part of the medicines do not harm the fetus and the expectant mother. In the treatment of rhinitis, local remedies are often used in the form of ointments (Evamenol), sprays (Euphorbium Compositum).

Among the remedies for the treatment of pregnant women, saline and sea solutions, which are sold in the pharmacy network, help well. The safest are Aquamaris, Otrivin, Aqualor, Marimer and others. Many women prefer to make homemade salt solutions, which are used instead of medications for a cold.

Dangerous for pregnant women are such drops as Nazol, Nazivin, Ferveks, Fazin, Galazolin, Xymelin, Naphtizin, Naphazolin.

Due to the fact that a runny nose can have a different nature of origin, it is treated in different ways. So, vasomotor rhinitis appears as a result of hormonal disruption, in which swelling of the mucous membrane begins, which provokes nasal congestion. This type of rhinitis does not require treatment; it goes away on its own when hormones return to normal. When an allergic rhinitis occurs, which occurs as a result of exposure to an allergen-pathogen, it is urgent to exclude contact with it.

If a viral infection has become the cause of the common cold, treatment is carried out in a comprehensive manner to prevent complications. Here, doctors recommend using not only gentle drug therapy, but also traditional methods of treatment.

Home remedies

Traditional medicine methods, in view of the fact that pharmacological drugs with a high degree of probability can have a negative effect on the fetus, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy, are the most in demand. To treat a runny nose with folk remedies, which are based on natural ingredients, are preferred not only by pregnant women, but also by nursing mothers. Among the most common methods that provide a therapeutic effect for a cold are:

  • rinsing the nasal canals with saline solutions (1 teaspoon per 50 ml of water);
  • use for rinsing and lubricating the nose of infusions and decoctions of medicinal herbs;
  • adherence to the drinking regime during a cold;
  • inhalation;
  • acupressure face massage.

In addition to common methods to cure a runny nose, the following recommendations help to alleviate the condition of a sick pregnant woman:

  1. The head of the bed should be raised during sleep to facilitate breathing.
  2. The air in the room where the pregnant woman is located must be humidified. It is advisable to carry out wet cleaning daily.
  3. You can put a chopped onion at the head of the bed at night.
  4. In the absence of elevated body temperature, it is necessary to warm up the legs by making foot baths with herbal infusions.
  5. Never self-medicate. Only after a doctor's examination and his recommendations can you start treatment.
  6. If the cause of the common cold is a cold, it is imperative to start treatment with anti-cold remedies.

Folk remedies

Decoctions of medicinal herbs help well with a cold. It is used for treatment as an infusion for internal use and as a topical agent for instilling the nasal passages. To prepare a medicinal one, you need to take 2 tbsp. tablespoons of chopped leaves of St. John's wort and plantain. Pour the mixture with 1 cup boiling water. Let it brew. Drink the cooled broth several times a day.

As a natural remedy for rhinitis, carrot juice is used, which is instilled into the nose several times a day.

Inhalation is an excellent anti-cold remedy. They help relieve the condition of a pregnant woman after the first procedure. Decoctions of calendula, St. John's wort, sage, thyme are an excellent basis for inhalation. It must be remembered that it is not recommended for pregnant women to do inhalation if they have a threat of miscarriage, problems with the cardiovascular system and increased body temperature. The decoction for the procedures is done as follows: 2 tbsp. spoons of any specified herb or herbal collection are boiled in 500 ml of water for 5 minutes. Use by cooling a little and letting it brew.

Home-made medicinal drops, which are prepared from black tea, help with a cold. Put 1 teaspoon of tea in a glass of boiling water, evaporate the infusion for 15 minutes over low heat and add half a teaspoon of baking soda to the ready-made infusion. You need to bury your nose with these drops 2 times a day, 8 drops in each nostril.

You can rinse the nasal passages with a decoction of herbs: licorice, mountaineer, calendula, plantain. Herbs are taken in equal amounts, 2 tbsp. collection spoons are poured with a glass of boiled water, brought to a boil and allowed to stand for 2 hours. The infusion is filtered and used for instillation with a syringe or pipette 5 times a day.

An excellent antiviral and antiseptic agent is calendula. Her infusion (2 tbsp. L. Per glass of boiling water) wash the nasal passages several times a day. Especially this remedy helps with a viral rhinitis.

Expectant mothers in the first months of pregnancy are only suitable for natural remedies for the common cold. One of these is honey. One tablespoon of honey is mixed with 3 tbsp. tablespoons of beet juice. Several times a day, the resulting composition is instilled with this remedy, three drops into the nostril.

Help with a cold, prepared ointment from vegetable oil, honey, butter, soda. All components are mixed in equal proportions. Ointment is smeared with a cotton swab and laid first in one nostril for 40 minutes, then in the other. If a woman is allergic to honey, you can substitute it for aloe.

Kalanchoe juice, which is instilled into the nose several times a day, helps to quickly clear the nose of a large accumulation of mucus.

It is very aggressive and causes a sudden attack of the common cold, so you should not use it all the time. You can alternate between aloe and Kalanchoe juice.

A runny nose during pregnancy is a trifling phenomenon at first glance: well, think of it, a runny nose! However, this is not very pleasant, and besides, it is not so rare that a runny nose becomes chronic - if only because almost all drops from a runny nose for pregnant women are contraindicated, since they have a vasoconstrictor effect.

So the treatment of a cold during pregnancy may not be as easy as it might seem at first glance.

Causes of a cold during pregnancy

A runny nose during pregnancy is quite common. There is a completely logical explanation for this: firstly, a pregnant woman immunity decreases and she becomes more susceptible to various diseases. Secondly, the reason for this phenomenon is hormones progesterone and estrogen, which are intensely produced during pregnancy. Their "side effect" is swelling of the mucous membrane and a decrease in its thickness.

Another reason - drying out of the mucous membrane due to an increase in the amount of blood circulating in the body. The mucous membrane can dry out for other reasons: due to the low level of humidity in the air you breathe, or due to various allergic reactions.

It can also be an unpleasant consequence. overgrowth of nasopharyngeal polyps or adenoids, or curvature of the nasal septum and sinusitis. In this case, it is necessary to consult an otolaryngologist.

By the way, it would be nice to visit him even before pregnancy, especially if you have already had problems with the nasopharynx, in particular, if in childhood you were constantly sick with sore throats and colds.

Runny nose in early pregnancy

If the cause of a runny nose lies in allergies or colds, then it is impossible to clearly answer the question of when it will manifest itself. But when it comes to the so-called hormonal rhinitis, everything is simpler here - it often appears in the second trimester. But a runny nose in early pregnancy is also not uncommon: it happens that a woman notices a stuffy nose even before she learns about her pregnancy.

It is also called "pregnancy rhinitis". In fact, it is - vasomotor rhinitis... Most likely, you will be able to get rid of it only after childbirth, when the hormonal background returns to normal. No special treatment for a cold is required, and yet you need to alleviate your condition, otherwise you simply will not be able to breathe normally and your blood will not be saturated with oxygen to the full. This is bad for you and for the baby, and besides, it is simply unpleasant.

However, a doctor should prescribe treatment for a common cold during pregnancy (and above all, make a diagnosis). Even if you notice that your runny nose begins in the spring, when everything is blooming, and you conclude that it is allergic rhinitis, do not diagnose yourself, go to the doctor, especially since if it is really an allergy, you will need a course of treatment.

But you need to go to the doctor even faster if, in addition to a runny nose, you also have a headache, fever, cough, sore throat - it is almost certainly a virus, and you cannot let the disease take its course, because any infections pose a danger to the baby , especially in early pregnancy.

Treatment of a common cold during pregnancy

A good effect is given by rinsing the nose - again, due to moisturizing the mucous membrane. For this, it is convenient to use ready-made preparations based on salt and sea water, but they are usually not cheap. Economy option - saline, chamomile or sage decoction.

Thermal procedures also help. Of course, you cannot put mustard plasters and soar your legs for pregnant women, but the local heat will not hurt at all: wear warm socks (preferably at night), warm your sinuses with a boiled egg or a bag of sand or salt. Warming up with a blue lamp also helps.

Inhalation is also good, especially onion-garlic: these plants contain essential oils that have phytoncidal properties, that is, they kill microbes. These inhalations are done as follows: chop the onion and garlic into a teapot, fill it with hot water, wait a little so as not to burn yourself with the steam, and then breathe over the spout of the teapot with both nostrils alternately.

Herbal infusions and essential oils of menthol and tea tree are also good for inhalation. Such inhalations can be done up to 4 times a day for 10 minutes - try it, this is a very effective, and most importantly, a safe way to treat a cold during pregnancy!

By the way, these same essential oils will come in handy when massage the nose: try to massage the points at the wings of the nostrils, the bridge of the nose, temples with the tips of your index fingers. Instead of oils, you can rub in Doctor Mom ointment.

Ventilate the room often, especially before bed. Try sleeping on a high pillow to help reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa.

Medicines for the common cold during pregnancy

The stumbling block is nose drops. Pregnant women are amicably forbidden to use them, and all the same, many women in this way are saved from nasal congestion ... Are drops from a cold during pregnancy so dangerous?

The fact is that they really constrict the vessels, and therefore the capillaries of the placenta, that is, the fetus receives less oxygen, and this cannot be allowed, since the consequences of hypoxia can be very serious. In addition, drops from the common cold can cause high blood pressure and even cramping. Well, and one more disadvantage: their effect, as a rule, ends quickly enough, and you have to bury them too often.

If you really cannot do without medicines for the common cold during pregnancy, give preference to various homeopathic drops, sprays and ointments based on oil. Nothing helps and you have to use vasoconstrictor drops? Remember the simple rules for their use: only in the acute phase of a cold, only 1-2 times a day (try dripping before bedtime to sleep better), only in a child's dosage and no more than 3 days. However, before taking drops, try other methods and consult your doctor.

Runny nose during pregnancy: treatment with folk remedies

You can try the treatment with various folk remedies. How do you like this recipe: instead of pharmaceutical drops, use ... apple or carrot juice? The dosage is 6-8 drops 3-4 times a day.

Drinking plenty of hot drinks is another effective treatment for a cold during pregnancy. It serves both to replenish fluid in the body, and as a general tonic. It is better to drink teas, decoctions of various herbs, fruit drinks, milk with honey, as well as teas containing vitamin C: weak tea with lemon, currant compote, rosehip decoction.

Prepare the latter like this: boil dry inflorescences for 3-5 minutes, adding a little sugar to the water - this will preserve vitamin C, which does not withstand prolonged heat treatment.

For more serious cases - severe rhinitis and sinusitis - try drinking a hot infusion of strawberries or plantain. The recipe is simple: 2 tablespoons. Pour 1 cup boiling water over any of these herbs. After half an hour, strain, drink half a glass 2-3 times a day. By the way, for these purposes, a mother-and-stepmother, willow bark is suitable.

However, many experts argue that herbs and other folk remedies are not completely safe, they can provoke a miscarriage or various pathologies. That's why be sure to consult your doctor.

Regardless of what caused a runny nose during pregnancy, treatment should not be postponed - why complicate your life? However, it is better not to resort to the help of purchased drops, but to be treated in natural, that is, in safer ways!
