Potholder Sunflower

We knit the front side using the same principle. Only now we add another yellow thread to create a variegated surface.

When the second circle is knitted, you need to take both parts and connect them along the edge to each other using two yellow threads (in 2 threads) with single crochets.

The sunflower is almost ready, there are still petals left. The petals are knitted in the round. To do this, we knit with a yellow thread in one loop - 2 dc, 1 dc2h, 2 dc. Having skipped one stitch, fasten it in the next one. We knit this way along the entire edge. All that remains is to knit a loop by which you can hang the sunflower. To do this, between the petals you need to knit a chain of 20 VPs and then tie it with an RLS and secure it well. The sunflower is ready!

Potholder Sunflower video master class

Now we knit the head. We start knitting from the edge of the circle. We knit 8 sc, turning over, we knit another 8 sc. Turn it over again and knit 6 sc, making one decrease on each side, turn it over and make 2 more decreases along the edges. The thread was secured.

Now we make the binding and loop. We start on the opposite side of the ladybug's head. We tie the sc in a circle, and, having knitted in a circle, we make a loop of 10-15 VP. Knit six spots, each of which has three circular rows (based on the principle of knitting the base of a potholder). Sew on circles and make eyes from either beads or white yarn. The Ladybug potholder is ready!

Potholder Peacock

2 r. – we make increases (17 SSN).

We tie it with the same thread that was used to tie the body.

If you know how to crochet, creating cute and original things for your home is no problem. DIY oven mitts will add a pop of color to your kitchen and make great gifts for any occasion.

And, considering that most of them are knitted very simply, you will enjoy the needlework process and make an original gift for your mother or grandmother on March 8th with any subject (fruits, animals, simple geometric shapes).

We suggest starting with the most common and simple crocheted decorative potholders with diagrams, videos and descriptions.

Round potholders

If you are just starting to master the skill of knitting, you will find useful diagrams with descriptions of round crocheted potholders for beginners.

Crochet potholders, photo

They are great for pots and can even be used as convenient trivets. It is very important that DIY crocheted oven mitts are wide and have good density. Since their patterns don't involve changing rows (round shapes are created by spiral knitting), you won't spend a lot of time on this work.

So, let's start crocheting kitchen potholders for March 8th in several techniques with diagrams and descriptions.

  • When knitting, make increases in such a way that there are no waves, bends or other defects that distort the shape on the surface of the product. The potholder should lie completely on a flat surface;
  • To prevent homemade potholders from looking boring, use several rich shades. You can choose a gradient palette, that is, use yarn of colors that differ from each other by several levels;
  • If you have been knitting for a long time and know interesting techniques, you can knit drawings of animals, flowers and other motifs on a round base. Well, or sew them on a knitted potholder;
  • One of the latest fashion trends is lace home decorations. We crochet potholders for the kitchen using this technique - and this area will definitely look stylish!

Advice: Additional elements can be connected to a round potholder. For example, it’s easy to make a ladybug potholder: modify the head and black circles for red or other bright wings.

Despite their simple shape, round potholders turn out to be very impressive: you can get design ideas from photos and diagrams, and video tutorials on crocheting potholders will help you understand the process itself.

Square knitted potholders

You can make square pot holders for the kitchen with your own hands very quickly and easily. They are created according to the principle of knitting with single crochets from the corner.

How to crochet a square pot holder step by step for beginners:

  • cast on three air loops, close them in a ring;
  • knit a stitch in the first loop, three stitches in the second and one stitch in the third;
  • to form a corner in each row from the middle column, knit three additional ones;
  • then an elastic band is knitted, its reliefs are sometimes tied with bright chain loops;
  • tie the edges of the product with a shell;
  • do not forget to make a knitted loop to secure the potholder to the hook.

Another simple way to crochet a potholder for beginners is a technique that involves making a braid with any required number of loops. Using an elastic band, make single crochets along the braid. In this case, the potholder will periodically turn inside out and vice versa.

You can choose the size for potholders of this shape yourself. To knit similar patterns, there is no need to use special patterns, since even basic skills and knowledge of the techniques used will be enough to quickly and easily complete such a decorative product for the kitchen, having only a pattern or description for crocheting potholders.

Strawberry potholder

The next master class on crocheting is creating a product in the shape of a strawberry. The classic pattern of this crochet - strawberry - is made with red and green yarn using a No. 5.5 hook.

Crochet details with diagrams and descriptions of potholders with a shape like a strawberry:

  • knit in a circle. Using green threads, start knitting a chain of 16 air loops, then connect them into a ring;
  • in the first row, knit four chain stitches in the center of the ring, an arch of twelve chain stitches, three double crochets, an arch of three double crochets, six double crochets, an arch of those chain loops, three double crochets, an arch of twelve chain stitches, three double crochets, an arch of three double crochets, six double crochets, an arch of three double crochets, two double crochets - and complete the stage with a connecting loop;
  • in the second row you need to knit four chain stitches, twelve double crochets under an arch of twelve chain loops, four chain stitches, three double crochets under an arch of three chain loops, three chain stitches, three double crochets, five chain loops , in the next arch - three double crochets, three chain stitches, three double crochets, four chain loops, thirteen double crochets under an arch of twelve chain loops, four chain loops, three double crochets under an arch of three chain stitches, three chain stitches, three double crochet stitches, five chain stitches, three double crochet stitches in the next arch, three chain stitches, three double crochet stitches and four chain stitches. Complete the row again with a connecting loop;
  • In the third row, according to the pattern, a loop is knitted in green. Next, a chain of eighteen air loops is assembled, which are combined with the first loop and tied with 25 single crochet stitches;
  • The fourth row is performed by joining red yarn and knitting according to the pattern for the 18th row.

Potholder in the shape of a flower

We suggest using patterns and descriptions of chamomile potholders when crocheting. Cute kitchen details are very easy to knit because they have a repeating element. Use a size 2 hook and about 50 grams of yarn in two shades.

To make the crocheted Chamomile potholder made according to the pattern look even more beautiful, consider our recommendations:

  • do not combine shades that contradict each other. Also, do not make the potholder too bright or pale in color;
  • it will be better if you make several potholders of the same type at once - and hang them next to each other;
  • change the color of the yarn after the fourth row, and then every couple of rows;
  • decorate the finished potholders with ribbons, braid or beads.

Do you think that knitted potholders are a thing of the past, that no one decorates the kitchen with such accessories anymore? But you are mistaken, on the Internet we found many beautiful potholders, potholders of unusual shape, the kind that any needlewoman would not be ashamed to show off. We bring to your attention a selection of the most interesting models of knitted potholders.

What materials should I knit a potholder from?

The purpose of any oven mitt in the kitchen, in addition to aesthetic beauty, is to protect the housewife’s hands from hot pots and pans. Therefore, when knitting potholders, choose threads of medium thickness; they are most suitable for our purpose.

It is better to make the tack two-layer, i.e. you need to knit the front and back sides and sew them together. If, in your opinion, the resulting potholder is a bit thin, then insert a layer of 2 layers of flannel or 1 layer of padding polyester inside for compaction.

Don't forget that each potholder must have a loop. It can be knitted with knitting needles from a hollow cord and sewn to the main part.

Knitting techniques for potholders:

  • knit or purl stitch, so you can knit potholders from fashionable T-yarn;
  • jacquard potholders (look especially impressive with New Year's patterns);
  • potholders with shadow patterns;
  • potholders knitted in a circle;
  • potholders with arans and braids;
  • potholders combined with fabric.

We do not urge you to knit potholders, because now such a selection of different kitchen accessories is presented in stores. We just want to emphasize that knitted accessories in the apartment emphasize the unique style of each housewife and create coziness in the house.

Knitting for beginners

For knitting you will need threads of 2 or 4 different colors, you can take leftovers and knitting needles of suitable size.

How to determine the size of the knitting needles?

Twist the thread slightly in half, the thickness of the knitting needles should be equal in thickness to the twisted threads.

Cast on 11 stitches and knit 1 row with knit stitches, 1 row with purl stitches. There are 80 rows in total.

If you want to knit a two-color potholder with knitting needles, then knit:

  • 20 rows in color A
  • 20 rows in color B
  • 20 rows in color A
  • 20 rows in color B

If you want to knit a four-color potholder with knitting needles, then knit:

  • 20 rows in color A
  • 20 rows in color B
  • 20 rows in color C
  • 20 rows in color D

Fold the potholder according to the diagram. You should get a size of 16*16 cm. Using the same principle, you can knit a washcloth from polypropylene yarn.

If you need a larger potholder, then cast on more stitches on the knitting needles. The main thing is to maintain proportions when knitting. You should end up with a square of each color. Those. if you cast on 20 stitches with color A, after 20 rows you count that the 20 cast on is 20 stitches. width = 16 cm, then knit 16 cm in height with color A.

Combined potholder with knitting needles

On the website of the Crafts Fair, I really liked the master class on combining fabric and stockinette stitch with knitting needles. Individual motifs look like finished potholders. Therefore, I provide a link in the article to a master class from Svetlana Gordon. The most difficult thing in this technique is to carefully and imperceptibly connect the fabric and knitted fabric.

Shadow patterns for knitting potholders

Maybe many of you know about the existence of shadow patterns, or maybe not. In any case, it is worth recalling that there are many patterns of square-shaped shadow patterns on the Internet that are ideal for knitting potholders.

Shadow pattern, what is it?

This is a type of knitting technique in which a pattern is created by moving the stockinette stitch to the purl stitch and back again. As a result, you can knit a whole picture and place it not only on a potholder, but also on a blanket, for example. Shadow patterns are easy to make; to knit them you need to know the knit and purl stitches, and you also need to be careful to count these same stitches. If you miscalculate, the drawing may move to the right or left.

In purl rows, there are two possible options for knitting a pattern: the first - all loops are knitted according to the pattern, and the second - all loops are knitted with a purl stitch. In the second case, the drawing turns out to be more voluminous. As a result, a relief pattern is obtained on the front side of the canvas, and its “negative” or “shadow” reflection is obtained on the back side. Hence the name of the technique – shadow patterns.

For shadow patterns, it is important to choose the right yarn: it should be smooth and not fluffy.

Knitted jacquard potholders

Jacquard patterns are perfect for knitting potholders; due to the multi-layer weave of threads, the fabric is quite thick. And this effect is just very necessary for potholders. After all, it is designed to protect your hands from hot temperatures. Very beautiful potholders knitted in jacquard technique designed by Drops.

Today we will knit solar oven mitts for the kitchen. Do you know that orange is a must-have color in the kitchen? These potholders can also be used as hot mats.

Orange is the color of the sun, prosperity, attracting well-being.

Knitted potholders will decorate any kitchen, will be useful to housewives, and will create coziness.

NOTATION

VP - air loop

Dc - single crochet

RLS - single crochet

Description of knitting potholders.

We will start knitting potholders from the center. We make an amigurumi ring and put 12 double crochets (dc) into it. Then we knit in a spiral, that is, we move to the next row without connecting the beginning and end of this row.

We knit 2 dc in each loop.

In each next row we knit 2 dc in the loop between the two dcs, and 1 dc in the remaining loops. Having knitted to the required width (I got 8 rows), we make a loop of 8-10 air loops (VP) between two dcs (you can take absolutely any number of air loops, make sure that the loop becomes comfortable).

We make the binding approximately evenly, that is: when you have tied about half of it, count the loops and decide whether everything works out exactly. If not (as it happened for me), then we knit the DC not in the second, but in the third or in each loop, depending on the circumstances. So we knit up to our loop. We tie it with a sc so that it is not thick, but evenly beautiful. (I got 15 sc). We connect the row, tighten the loop tightly, cut the thread, hide the tip.

You can decorate the potholders by knitting a chain of air loops with a thread of a different color, attaching it to the main fabric. See how to do this in the photo below.

Here are some more adorable oven mitts from the internet. Connected in exactly the same way. Added eyes, flowers, beads, buttons, leaves and other decorative elements. Some are without strapping, others are strapped. Craftswomen, get creative! When making potholders, you can let go of your imagination. Potholders knitted in this way can also be used as hot mats.

In the next version of the potholder we use threads of three colors: orange, black or dark brown and red for the tongue. When tying, we form the ears.

Hot stand

I took needlework thread, hook number 4. If we knit a potholder, we take the yarn in 2 - 3 threads. For a hot stand, it is better to take stiff yarn, cord, or braid and a larger hook.

We will knit in the round. We use chain stitches, single crochets and half double crochets.

First we knit a ring, by which we will then hang it.

Hamburger potholder

You will need: leftover yarn in beige, green, brown, yellow, red and light green colors, hook number 4.

Using a beige thread, tie a chain of 20 VPs and then knit according to the pattern from bottom to top.

Then use red and light green thread to tie the parts in half-columns on the finished potholder, as shown in the photo.

Crocheted oven mitts are wonderful things! What's so great about these common kitchen accessories? There are several answers to this question. Firstly, a beautiful potholder, as well as one connected in the same style with it, will decorate and complement the overall interior of the kitchen. Secondly, it is an indispensable assistant when working with hot pots and pans. Thirdly, while knitting these products, the craftswoman will improve her needlework skills. Another plus is that these kitchen accessories do not require a lot of thread. Therefore, this is a good option to use leftover yarn. The scope for imagination and creativity in making these gizmos is simply unlimited. You can come up with models and patterns yourself, or you can use ready-made ones.

If you are a beginner knitter and are not confident in your skill, do not despair. First, learn how to knit, then study our step-by-step master class for beginners and feel free to get to work. You will succeed.

The first way to create crocheted potholders with patterns

We invite you to knit these fun potholders with your own hands.

For two potholders you will need 150 g of white yarn, 150 g of green and 100 g of light green. Take 100% cotton thread. Hook No. 4.

Making useful household items with your own hands is a delightful hobby!

It is advisable to knit such potholders in 2 threads, otherwise they will turn out thin and will heat up quickly. Knitting potholders is carried out only by one type of loops - single crochet. Each next row is turned 1 vp.

Model No. 1 “Small cage”. Using green thread, knit a chain of 35 chain stitches. plus 1 v.p. rise. Knit in b/n stitches.

Rows 1 - 5: *5 loops with green thread, 5 loops with white thread* - 3 times. Finish row 5 stitches with green thread.

6 – 10 rows: * 5 loops with white thread, 5 loops with light green thread * - 3 times. Finish row 5 stitches with white thread.

Repeat from rows 1 to 10 until you have a total of 35 rows. You can clearly see how to change colors in the photo. Decorate the binding with green thread in 1 circular row of b/n columns. In each corner, knit 3 tbsp from one corner loop of the previous row. b/n. For the loop at the end of the tying circle, perform 15 ch. and tie them st. b/n.

Model No. 2 “Large cage”. Dial 15 v.p. green and white thread and knit 19 rows st. b/n. On the 20th row, swap the color of the threads - green to white, and white to light green. Knit in single crochets for another 19 rows and finish knitting. Perform the binding and loop in the same way as in the description for model No. 1.

As you can see, everything is very simple. By spending just a couple of hours of your time, you can knit delicate and beautiful potholders.
