We sew parts D to square F, and after that we sew parts C. We iron it with an iron.

Step 3: compiling the composition

Block of triangles

On the short side, we sew part B (a triangle of fabric for the base) and part B (a triangle of yellow fabric). When doing this, make sure that the background part is on the left and the yellow part is on the right. The result is a triangle, which we sew with the red triangle E - along the long side. You should get 4 blocks, as in the figure below:

square blocks

We sew the blocks according to the scheme:

Step 4: border

We proceed to the implementation of the border.

  • To do this, we need to cut out 4 strips. The length of the strip is equal to the length of the side of the pillow.
  • Sew strips for the border to each side of the square. We fold the strip with the side of the pillow so that its ends equally protrude beyond the edges.
  • Sew the strip to one side of the pillow. We repeat for each side.

Classic patchwork pillow

If you want to sew sofa or decorative pillows, then patchwork is the perfect option. Made in a classic patchwork style, sofa cushions will wonderfully fit into any interior.

Patchwork is a completely simple technique, but it requires accuracy and perseverance. To sew a sofa cushion, for example, for a living room, first pick up shreds that will match the color scheme with the upholstery of your upholstered furniture. The front side of the pillow can be made from flaps, and the wrong side - from plain fabric. To begin with, we cut out squares of fabric with sides of ten centimeters: You can cut out eight multi-colored and eight plain patches. Then we fold two different parts with the front side, sew them together and smooth the seam. After this, we repeat the same steps with the remaining squares. The result should be four stripes, which consist of four squares. It remains to sew the resulting strips into a solid canvas. It is best to arrange the stripes so that the squares on the pillow are staggered.

For the second side, we use a patch of plain fabric, the size of which should correspond to the stitched fabric plus twenty centimeters, this difference will go to the hem. We bend this hem to the wrong side and sew it. After that, fold the two parts of the pillow with the front sides and sew them together. That's it, the pillow is ready!

Patchwork denim pillow

Another way to implement the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a pillow with your own hands is patchwork from old denim items. First of all, we collect all the jeans that you no longer wear, cut off and rip the legs from them, wash them and iron them. Then we cut out squares or rectangles from jeans using a template prepared in advance. Then we sew the resulting squares according to the same principle as in the classic pillow, made in the style of patchwork: we sew the parts in pairs, folding them with the front side, then we sew strips from them, and the resulting stripes into a single canvas. We iron the seams. Thus, the two parts are square in shape. After that, we fold the two resulting canvases with the front sides, sew them on three sides, smooth the seams again, carefully turn them inside out. We stuff the resulting pillowcase with padding polyester, and sew up the fourth side.

Here are some ideas you can use if you want to decorate the interior of your home and sew throw pillows and cushions. Sew, craft, create! Let your home become even more comfortable, and the craftsmanship is improved!

TOTAL

In this master class, you will find detailed patterns for sewing patchwork pillows with your own hands, with detailed photographs.

In addition to the usual quilting tools, you will also need a ruler with 30 or 60 marks on it.

Before you start, pay attention to a few points:

A. Following this instruction, you will get a pillow about 50 cm wide.

B. This will show you how to make TWO sides of the pillow., which will be mirror images of each other. In this tutorial, they are used as the back and front of ONE pillow, but you can also use them to make the front of TWO pillows.

But at the same time, you should NOT be lazy and try to sew only ONE side. You need to do both sides to get the right amount of correct pieces. Once you have sewn all 12 squares, you will understand! Just realize that by making only half of this sample, you will NOT get the same result as in the photo.

V. Both sides are designed in the same way.

G. You can make this pillow in any size you want. Just make sure you cut enough strips to end up with 12 squares.

D. There will probably be remnants of the fabric:

  1. The ends of the strips from which the pattern will be combined can be used for other work, since the remains will be rectangular.

  2. From scraps of the main structure of the pillow, you can assemble the BONUS PART. How to do this will be shown at the end of this tutorial.

Instructions for sewing a patchwork pillow with your own hands + patterns

Step 1:

Prepare the fabrics from which you will sew the pillow. It is best to lightly starch them before work. Later, you will need to combine different pieces diagonally to create the desired pattern, so the fabric should not stretch.

Make 3 sets of strips of the indicated sizes (cut along the width of the fabric):

  • fabric 1: 3 strips 10 cm wide;
  • fabric 2: 3 strips 6.25 cm wide;
  • fabric 3: 3 strips 10 cm wide.

fabric strips for patchwork pillow

Lay out the fabrics from left to right: first, second, third.

Step 2

Sew three strips together. Do this for all three sets of strips.

Smooth the seams in one direction each time, they should go in the same direction (up-up, or down-down). It doesn't matter which way you iron the seams, the main thing is that they do NOT look at each other or in different directions.

Step 3

Measure the height of the resulting strip, it should be about 24 cm, but it can be a little less (depending on the width of the seam allowances). In any case, use the height of the strip to cut into SQUARE.

Remember to trim the edge of your strip regularly so you end up with squares. You should have enough fabric so that you can do this after each use. Sort the resulting cuts into 2 piles of 6 pieces.

Step 4

The next step requires your special attention! Fold the squares from the first pile diagonally as shown in the next photo.

And fold the squares from the second pile diagonally like this:

Step 5

Take the right side from the first pile and the right side from the second pile and put them together. Repeat this for the remaining flaps (those you don't work on yet, then set aside).

Align the two triangles diagonally, as shown in the photo below (the lines do not need to be drawn yet). For accuracy, use pins and a basting. Then sew the flaps and cut off the excess, the seam needs to be smoothed out.

Step 6

Now take a ruler with 30 or 60 divisions, place it as shown in the following photos. Make sure that it recedes from the main seam to the right by 30 divisions, make a mark. Then flip the ruler over and repeat for the left side.

Draw lines along the marks left. You should end up with a 60 notch wedge with a seam down the middle.

Before you cut the fabric along the lines, make sure the marks are accurate and symmetrical.

Cut off the excess, SAVE THE RESIDUE!

Step 7

Well, now it's time to trim the ends of the seams at the top of the wedges.

Place three identical wedges on the table.

Fold two of them right sides inward. On one side, fasten them with pins, make a mark.

Make sure that the seams on the wedges exactly match each other, to do this, connect their tops with a pin.

Sew the wedges together. Stop in the middle, reaching the seams in the center.

Unfold the resulting block and smooth the seam.

Now sew the last of the three remaining wedges to the block in the same way.

Step 8

Now follow the same steps to make three more blocks.

And finally, we collect the blocks so that a circular pattern comes out, and we cut them off with pins, sew them together.

In the end, many seam ends gather in the center. They can be stacked on top of each other and sewn on. But you can also use any other method that suits you.

Don't forget to iron the seams.

Step 9

Well, here you have made one flower in the shape of a star. Now assemble the rest of the pieces in the same way to form the second star. See how they mirror each other?

Step 10

Now you need to stitch the resulting details. Muslin can be used as a lining. You can stitch the stars however you want. Below are two examples (an easy way and a hard way).

Step 11

Trim the protruding tips of the stars. You can use tape or any other round object for this, circling it around the edge.

Now fold both quilted pieces right side in and sew the ends (along the blue line). This option is designed for sewing one pillow. If you want to make two, use a different fabric for the back of the pillow. Sew the details around the perimeter, leaving an open section of 18-20 cm.

Turn the pillow inside out.

Smooth it out.

Step 12

Start stuffing. To do this, you can use a standard bag with pillow filler. It is better to start from the top of the star.

Sew the rest by hand.

Step 13

If you like, you can decorate the center of the pillow with buttons. Attach the button pieces to each side of the pillow, and then firmly press them together. This will make the pillow look like a real flower.

Or you can leave everything as it is.

READY!

The approximate size of the pillow is 50 cm, the height is about 16 cm. The red and blue pillow is larger, it uses strips of fabrics of 10 cm each. Therefore, its width was about 62 cm, respectively, and the filler consumption is also greater (about one and a half standard packages).

BONUS PART

All the scraps that are left of the squares can be brought together and form the front part for another pillow. This is slow and painstaking work, but at the same time exciting.

Align the pieces together.

Stack them together like pizza slices. Assemble 3 "slices" into square blocks.

Now be careful. You will have to play around with the 4 square blocks you made. They are NOT the same, only 2 pairs match.

Please note that it turned out 2 large sectors of yellow and gray colors. This frequency must be taken into account and observed if you want to make a beautiful symmetrical pillow.

As you can see, the center of this block is cut out because it is too bulky.

The resulting circle can become the front of another patchwork pillow. Its width is about 35 cm. But you can find other uses for it, for example, to make a cup holder or a rounded cosmetic bag. It depends on your imagination.

In order to choose work according to your level, you can use numerous patchwork-style pillow patterns. In our article you will learn all the necessary information to create them!

An interesting idea of using patchwork for home comfort

This article will describe a master class for making the pillow shown in the photo in the style of patchwork:

To make this particular pillow, you will need a silk fabric of two colors, blue and gray. Other colors can be selected upon request. To make hearts, you need to take red felt. Threads should be selected in the color of the fabrics. For filling, you need a synthetic winterizer. A white satin ribbon will be a great addition to decorating a pillow. And, of course, you can not do without scissors and needles.

Before you get started, you need to cut out nine strips of gray and blue fabric. They should be six centimeters wide and forty centimeters long. All strips are sewn together, after which you need to iron one side well. When stitching the stripes, the colors must be alternated.

Further, the ribbons that turned out after cutting must be sewn in a checkerboard pattern and only one side should be ironed again. A square is cut out of the finished canvas, which should be thirty-five by thirty-five centimeters in size.

To edging the pillow, it is necessary to cut out strips, the size of which will be six centimeters wide and fifty centimeters long.

To decorate the pillow, a satin ribbon is used, which is sewn diagonally and tied into a beautiful bow.

The lower part of the pillow is measured along the upper part and sewn on. When everything is ready, the product can be turned out and filled with padding polyester. The resulting hole is sewn up with a hidden seam. At the last stage, the pillow is decorated with hearts. To do this, hearts are cut out of red felt and sewn over the finished product.

DIY classic home accessory

This article provides a detailed description of how to sew a patchwork pillow.

The patchwork technique is perfect for making cushions for sofas. They will fit into absolutely any interior.

In order to sew a patchwork sofa cushion, you need to choose pieces of fabric that will match the tone of the furniture upholstery.

The front side will be sewn from patches, and the wrong side can be made from plain fabric. To make the front part, it is necessary to cut out squares, the side of which will be ten centimeters. You can make eight squares of brighter colors and eight calm shades. Pieces of different colors are folded together with the right side and grinded. After that, the seams are well ironed. Next, you need to stitch the flaps in two pairs, but so that there is a correspondence between the stuffed flaps and the one-color ones. The result should be four stripes, which will consist of four squares. Further, all the stripes are connected into a whole canvas, while do not forget that the squares must be staggered.

To make the wrong side, you need to take a plain fabric, which will be the same size as the patchwork. Just add twenty centimeters on one side to hem the pillowcase. This hem is folded over to the wrong side and sewn on a typewriter to make a pocket.

Finally, you can grind both parts, while folding the front sides inward. You need to grind on three sides so that the part with the hem is open. Iron the seams gently. You can fill the pillowcase with padding polyester and close with a blind seam, or you can simply put it on any pillow that fits in size.
