The process of making home curlers

Many people make curlers without using paper, but paper curls hold the curl better and at the same time create it larger. Therefore, it is better to do with paper, especially since everyone definitely has it.

Hair curling technique with home curlers

As a rule, it is better to curl your hair before going to bed in order to be with beautiful and stylish curls in the morning. As we have already noted, sleeping on such curlers is very convenient and comfortable. If you need a hairstyle for the evening, then on average, the time for wrapping up is about 6 hours. This time is highly dependent on the type and structure of your hair.

  1. If your curls do not lend themselves well to styling, then it is better to use a styling agent before winding or using the folk method: dilute 2 tablespoons of sugar in one glass of water.
  2. Next, comb your hair well along the entire length.
  3. Select a section of hair and, starting from the ends, roll it with curlers to the very roots if you want a curl along the entire length of the hair, or to the middle to create light curls.

  4. Tie the curlers with the ends of the fabric, fixing it well on the curl. Better to tie it in a knot or make a bow.

  5. The simplest and most pleasant thing about this method of curling is that you can randomly curl your hair, using curlers of different lengths and widths.
  6. In about 6 hours, your curls will be ready!

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in this method. Therefore, do not deprive yourself of the opportunity to be beautiful and at the same time do not harm your hair at all!

Making hair curlers with your own hands is very simple, it only takes a few minutes. They are comfortable, gently curl, without tangling, without injuring the curls, allow you to sleep comfortably, cost nothing.

Many women love the curl effect.

How to make curlers out of paper, fabric or foil? There are several ways, the most unexpected things are suitable as a basis: wet wipes, insulation, elastic bands, hairpins, fabric trimmings, ribbons. Consider simple and quick options for making homemade hair curlers.

Fabric long curlers: how to use them

Rags are familiar to all schoolgirls

The technology for making soft papillotes from pieces of fabric is simple. It is better to take a non-slippery, sufficiently dense material, cut strips from it of 20 cm long and 2-3 cm wide. Sprinkle each strand of ribbons with water, tie the ends with a strip. Then we twist the fabric with a curl into a spiral, fix it with the end of the strip.

The more workpieces you wind, the more curls will be, and the hair is fluffier. To obtain a light wavy styling, 6-10 soft papillotes are enough, depending on the thickness of the hair. This method differs in that you can randomly wind workpieces of different lengths. After 6 hours, the curls are ready.

You can curl your hair with ordinary rags.

3 options for how to make paper curlers: this is not magic leverage for you

Not many people use paper curlers, nevertheless, they fix the curl better, allow you to make a larger curl. Therefore, among all the materials at hand, paper is considered the most preferable.

    Method 1 using thick, not rigid, flexible paper. Landscape will do. We make paper bundles or tubes, the size of which depends on the length of the hair. We wind the blocks on them. We fold the tourniquet, tie the ends. When all is done, we put on a headscarf for tight fastening.

    Method 2. Papillots made of toilet paper or napkins. Along the perforation, we tear off strips of four rectangles in each, fold in half along the line. We twist the paper rectangle along the long side into a tight tourniquet. The result should be a rope. We make papillotes in the right amount, depending on the thickness and length of the hair. Having twisted the strand onto the tourniquet, we tie the ends with a knot.

    Method 3 is very convenient, simple and harmless. These curlers will take a little more time to make, but they can be used several times, they are also suitable for curling babies. We combine two materials: strips of fabric and paper. It is not advisable to use old newspapers. We prepare 12 strips of 4 sheets, cut ribbons 15 cm long.Place the fabric strip on a piece of paper, fold in half, twist. We wrap the paper tubes around the tape, fix. For large curls, thick rollers are required. We wind the strands on paper tubes, tie the ends of the tape.

Before the curling procedure, it is not recommended to apply fixing agents to homemade blanks. If the hair is naughty, does not lend itself to styling, use the folk method: 2 tablespoons of sugar in 1 glass of water, stir and sprinkle on the strands.

Do it right and the results will be obvious.

Foam curling with soft spiral curlers

Scraps of foam rubber, insulation are quite suitable for soft papillotes. You can use a film with air bubbles. We cut the workpiece from the selected material. We choose the parameters depending on the thickness of the hair. It is advisable to make the strips wider, but so that they do not take up too much space on the head. Curling thin hair, we select thicker curls, for thick ones we prepare larger curlers.

The foam perm is very popular

We wind the curls onto ready-made strips according to the same principle as in the previous methods. We tie the remaining ends or fasten them with invisible ones at the hair roots. Up to 8 pieces of foam curlers will help create soft waves.

Foil-based hairstyle: how to wind curls with it

Foil is a flexible material that allows you to create bendable curlers. In addition to it, you will need cotton wool. From the foil, you need to prepare strips of 5-7 cm wide. Put a piece of cotton wool rolled into a bundle in the center of each workpiece. Twist the foil blank into a tube. You should get something like boomerangs. We wind the strand in the direction from the ends to the roots, tie the ends, fasten. For large curls, thicker boomerangs are required.

Curling created with homemade curlers is natural and light. The steepness of the curls can be adjusted by changing the thickness of the blanks. If you wind your hair gently, the result will please the eye more than once.

Girls love to experiment with their appearance, so almost every cosmetic bag has these accessories! It remains only to find out how to wind your hair on curlers, and go to create a luxurious styling.

Basic principles of using curlers

To get beautiful curls without harm to your hair, remember these simple rules.

  • Rule 1. Styling on wet hair lasts much longer, so do not forget to moisturize the strands before wrapping. Of course, in the case of thermo and electric curlers, this should not be done.
  • Rule 2. The thinner and rarer the hair, the smaller the strand for winding should be. Thanks to this, the curls will turn out to be voluminous, and the hair will visually become thicker.
  • Rule 3. It is recommended to start curling hair from the middle of the head.
  • Rule 4. There are two ways to arrange the curlers - vertical (inclined) and horizontal.
  • Rule 5. Short hair should only be twisted from above. If you are wearing a side parting, then curl only those strands that are on the larger side of it. But do not twist the smaller part at all. This will give your haircut a trendy asymmetry.
  • Rule 6. Do not go to bed with curlers (except for foam rubber) and do not leave them for more than an hour. It is bad for hair.
  • Rule 7. Unfold them only after drying / cooling, along the way taking apart the curls with your hands. Do this very carefully so as not to ruin anything.

Rule 8. Pay special attention to the size of the curlers:

  • Small - for short strands;
  • Medium - for medium length hair;
  • Large - for long strands.

Ideally, you should have accessories of different sizes in your arsenal - by combining them, you will get an unsurpassed result. For example, in the middle part of the head, the hair is twisted on the largest curlers, medium-sized devices are used on the back of the head, and small strands at the face and neck are twisted onto the smallest ones.

Rule 9. Curlers with elastic will leave creases on the strands. It is better to use devices that are fixed with clamps, special skewers or pins.

Rule 10. If your hair is long, wind it in as thin strands as possible. This will dry them faster and hold the curls better.

Rule 11. Short strands will wind up easier if you put a strip of paper on the curlers.

Rule 12. When curling your hair, try not to break the ends.

Rule 13. Remember, too frequent curling dries out and weakens the hair, which can cause hair loss.

How to wind curlers of different shapes

How to properly wind different types of curlers? We offer you detailed instructions.

Boomerangs

Suitable for hair of any length. Boomerangs can be of different shapes and diameters, therefore they are able to cover even a very long and wide strand. Another important advantage of boomerangs is their density. Thanks to the dense foam rubber, the strand will be fixed in one position - this will protect it from deformation.

How to use boomerangs?

  1. Sprinkle clean hair with water from a spray bottle.
  2. Comb and part your hair into thin sections.
  3. Apply fixer to the area around your face from mid-to-ends.
  4. Attach the boomerang to the tip of the strand and twist it from bottom to top.
  5. At the desired level, wrap the boomerang with a pretzel.
  6. In the same way, process all the remaining strands, winding them alternately from the left, then from the right side.
  7. When your hair is completely dry, gently unwrap the boomerangs and style your curls.
  8. After an hour, they can be sprinkled with varnish.

One of the latest innovations is electric boomerangs. They are first heated and then wrapped around the hair. When the strands are heated to the desired temperature, a light indicator on the boomerangs is triggered, indicating that it is time to remove the curlers.

Velcro

This type of curler is ideal for adding volume and volume to your hair. It seems to many that using Velcro or hedgehogs is incredibly easy. In fact, this is not so - in long hair they easily get entangled, and on short strands they do not always hold tightly. The ideal length is a bob or bob haircut.

To curl your hair beautifully with Velcro, use this instruction:

  1. Divide clean, damp hair with a horizontal parting into several parts - frontal, middle and occipital. You need to start cheating with the last one.
  2. Place the tip of the strand over the Velcro and roll it down. No additional fixation is required.
  3. Blow dry your hair to speed up the process.
  4. Remove the curlers and shape the curls.

Tips to teach you how to properly roll any type of curler around your hair:

Thermo curlers

Hair styling with heat rollers is considered the fastest and most effective. But they have one big drawback - it is this type that harms the hair the most.

How to apply correctly:

  1. Dip the heated rollers in boiling water for a few minutes.
  2. Comb and apply heat protectant to hair.
  3. Divide dry and clean hair into thin strands.
  4. Starting from the bottom zone, screw them onto the curlers and secure with a clip. To achieve volume, this must be done from the base of the strand, to obtain spiral curls - from the ends to the roots.
  5. Wait 20 minutes and remove the curlers.
  6. Spread the curls with your hands and sprinkle with varnish.

Spirals

Spirals are made of wood and plastic. With their help, you can get elastic vertical curls. It is very easy to do this:

  1. Moisten clean hair with water from a spray bottle.
  2. Divide the hair into several horizontal parts.
  3. Separate a thin strand and gently wind it from top to bottom. Secure the tip with a special clip.
  4. Let your head dry completely.
  5. Remove the clamp and unwind the spiral by pulling it down.
  6. Parse the curls with your hands.

Bobbins

Bobbins are plastic curlers in the form of sticks with elastic bands at the end. They give a very fine curl and are most often used for chemical and bio-curling. But they are also useful for ordinary winding.

  1. Apply a fixing agent to damp hair.
  2. Divide it into thin strands.
  3. Screw them onto the bobbins, fixing with elastic bands.
  4. Wait until the hair is completely dry and remove it from the head.
  5. Style your curls into your hair.

Foam curlers

Accessories of this type are made of foam rubber.

They are very simple to use:

  • Wash your hair and apply conditioner to your hair.
  • Dry a little with a hairdryer - the hair should be slightly damp, but not wet, otherwise it will dry for a long time.
  • Start curling with the strands around your face. Apply styling mousse or styling spray, place the tip of the strand on a foam roller and roll up to the base. Fix securely with an elastic band. By the way, some girls manage to replace store curlers with the smallest dishwashing sponges.
  • Now divide the hair into 3 sections (top, side, back) and wind all the hair. It is important that all strands are the same thickness - then you will get uniform curls. The width of the strand depends on the width of the curler.
  • If you want a body wave effect, place the curlers horizontally. If you want spiral curls, place them vertically.
  • After the hair is dry, remove the accessories and distribute the curls with your hands.
  • Fix with varnish.

Electric curlers

Using electric curlers at home is quite simple:

  1. Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
  2. Dry it with a hairdryer.
  3. Plug them in for 15 minutes. Some models have a special indicator that determines whether the curler is ready for use.
  4. At this time, prepare your hair yourself - apply a thermal protective agent and let it dry. Hair must be absolutely dry!
  5. In the case of electric curlers, the strands are wound in the same way as on the thermo. It is better to use large curlers near the forehead, small curlers on the back of the head and on the sides. Make sure that the width of the strand does not exceed the width of the curler, otherwise the curl will not be too neat. Secure them with a hairpin or clip.
  6. Once the curlers are completely cool, remove them from your head.
  7. Don't comb your curls for another 15 minutes.

The process of making home curlers

This time is highly dependent on the type and structure of your hair.

Despite the abundance of tools and hair products in stores, sometimes situations may arise when it is necessary to make curlers from scrap materials. For example, you went to the sea and forgot your curling iron, but you want to curl your curls.

Making hair curlers with your own hands is not difficult at all, besides, they have a number of advantages over finished products: they do not injure the hair, do not entangle them, you can sleep in them all night. And of course, they cost free, because you can use materials at hand for them.

The disadvantage may be the time spent on making the curlers, but with the advent of experience, this process will take little time, and the design of homemade curlers is simple. In addition, you will have to spend a lot of time in such curlers (you may even have to sleep in them), but beauty, as you know, requires sacrifices.

The curls obtained from homemade curlers come out natural and light, and you can adjust the curls of the hair with the thickness of the curlers. In any case, the result of curling with homemade curlers is always pleasing to the eye, and for this it is worth spending a little time on making them.

To achieve the best result, the hair must be washed, dried, carefully calculated and divided into strands. You can fix the curls after curling with hairspray, so they will last longer.

There are several options for homemade curlers, and for all of them, you can take improvised means as materials - fabric, paper, foam rubber, insulation, etc. This allows you to make curlers with your own hands, not only while at home, but also on a hike, business trip or on vacation. Consider the most affordable options for homemade curlers.

Fabric curlers

To make them, you will need fabric, preferably non-slip and fairly dense. It is cut into strips approximately 20 centimeters long. On these ribbons, you need to wind the hair in the following way: strands of hair are moistened slightly with water and the ends are tied with a fabric ribbon. Then the fabric, together with the hair, is twisted into a spiral and secured with the end of the tape. The fluffiness of the curls depends on the number of such curlers, that is, the more such "rolls", the more magnificent the curls will be, and light waves can be obtained using 6-8 homemade curlers.

Paper curlers

What is needed is paper - thick, but soft enough to be comfortable to work with. Cardboard is too hard and will not work for this purpose. You can take sheets of A4 paper or any other size, the main thing is that it is suitable for the length of the hair.

Tubes or flagella are made of paper and strands of hair are wound around them. After folding, the ends of the paper flagellum must be tied, and in order to additionally secure the structure, it is better to tightly tie the head with a scarf so that the curlers hold tightly to each other.

You can combine the two materials and wind a roller of paper around the fabric strip. Then a strand of hair is wrapped around it and fixed with the ends of a fabric tape.

Curlers made of foam rubber or insulation

If the house has leftovers of foam rubber or insulation left after repairs, then they can also be used to make curlers. You can also use a dense film with air bubbles. Its advantage is also that the hair is tightly adhered to such homemade curlers.

The material is cut into strips of the desired width and length and the hair is wound on them according to the same principle as with the rest of the curlers - twist around the strip, fix the hair at the roots with the ends of the foam strip. Unlike previous materials, such homemade curlers can last longer, because they can be used many times.

To create soft waves, 7-8 foam rubber curlers are enough. They should be wide enough, but at the same time should not interfere with each other. If the hair is thin, then the strands of hair for wrapping can be taken thicker, and vice versa, for thick hair you need more curlers.

Foil curlers

These curlers differ in that they can easily bend in different directions. To make such curlers you need foil and cotton wool. Strips 5-7 centimeters wide are cut out of the foil, and cotton wool twisted into a flagellum is placed inside each such strip. The foil is wrapped in a tube and you get curlers that look like a boomerang. Further, the strands of hair are wound, starting from the ends and moving towards the roots, and then fixed by tying the ends.

With any type of curler, the principle is always true, according to which the thicker the roller, the larger the curls are. For greater strength of the curls, before wrapping them, they should be moistened with a styling agent - foam, gel or wax.

Curlers are the most popular and easiest way to create beautiful curls. Modern manufacturers provide a large selection of these devices. However, not always a wide assortment can satisfy specific desires and requests, because every girl wants to make a unique hairstyle that suits her. The process of applying them is similar to the fabric version. Please note that paper curlers do not hold well on long hair, so after winding them, tie a scarf or towel around your head.

Curlers made of paper and fabric

This option combines cloth and paper curlers. In order to make a beautiful home hairstyle, you need to cut the fabric and paper into equal strips, and then join the two materials together and twist the tubes. It is important that the strip of paper is inside. To make curls, use the pattern above.

Foam curlers

To make homemade hair curlers to create a beautiful hairstyle, you can use foam rubber, insulation and film with air bubbles. Everything is very simple:

  • It is necessary to take a piece of foam rubber or other similar material and cut it into narrow strips, the width of which depends on the desired size of the curls;

The curling process is very simple:

  1. First, the hair must be slightly moistened with water, comb well and sprayed with styling spray;
  2. Separate a small strand and place the straw underneath it. Start winding from the roots and work your way to the roots, applying a slight pull;
  3. Fix the tube using the invisible one. Fold over the other end and pin it down as well. Repeat all steps with all strands;
  4. The minimum holding time is approximately one hour. After that, you need to remove the invisibility and tubes. It remains only to separate the curls with your fingers and you can fix them with varnish.

First, apply a little foam to your hair, and then, separating the strands, wind them around your finger, remove the curl and secure it with a hair clip. When all the curls are fixed, you need to hold it for half an hour. To speed up the result, you can dry them with a hairdryer. Finally, sprinkle everything with varnish and unwind the curls;
  • Hairdryer + hairbrush. Beautiful, large curls can be obtained using a hair dryer and a large round comb. First, sprinkle the hair with water and wind the curls, fixing them with varnish;
  • Braids. Braid your slightly damp hair in pigtails, just one or two. It is best to do everything in the evening and sleep with them all night. In the morning, undo the braids and distribute them with your fingers, and then fix with varnish;
  • Harnesses. Divide the strands into equal parts and apply foam to each and twist them into bundles. After that, form a tight bun, securing it with a hair clip. You need to leave them for several hours, or better for the whole night;
  • A bundle. If you want to add volume to your hair and get sloppy waves, then you can use this option, which is ideal for medium length hair. Wet hair must be collected in a ponytail, twisted into a tight bundle and laid in a bun, fixing it with hairpins. You can unwind everything after 6-8 hours. Spread everything with your fingers and fix with varnish;
  • Socks . For work, take a sock or golf from cotton fabric. You need to cut off the toe to make a tube, and then roll it up to make a donut. Tie dry hair in a ponytail at the crown of the head, pass a sock through it. Wrap around it and hide the ends of the curls. You need to wrap it up until the sock is near the head. Leave the bunch overnight;
  • T-shirt . For this original method, a regular T-shirt is suitable, which must be twisted with a tourniquet. Using an elastic band, secure the ends to form a donut. Apply styling product to damp and combed hair. Distribute them evenly over the entire head, that is, combing not only along the sides, but also forward. Place the "donut" on your head like a crown, and then twist each wide strand around the T-shirt, securing it with invisibility. With such a design, you need to go to bed in order to get a beautiful hairstyle in the morning;
  • Handkerchief . Divide wet hair in half, parting it in half. Tie two high ponytails, securing them with silicone rubber bands. Fold the scarves diagonally and tie them around the tails so that the ends are the same length. Divide each tail into two parts and wind each tail tightly in a spiral onto the hanging part of the scarf. Secure the curls with an elastic band. As a result, you should get 4 spirals. Go to bed, and in the morning untwist everything, distribute with your fingers and fix with varnish.

Now you know how you can make beautiful curls without having a curling iron and store curlers at hand. Try all the options to find the one that works best for you, as each method may produce different results on different hairs.

Homemade curlers are made from foam rubber, paper, fabric and foil. The availability of materials makes them indispensable for creating a light, romantic look. Making hair curlers with your own hands is easy and cheap, practically for nothing. Home appliances do not tangle your hair, let it breathe. Once made, it can be used many times. We will consider how to make hair curlers at home later in the article.

In what cases are applied

Various styling products affect the structure, especially heat treatment. Curling on homemade papillotes is long in time, but does not damage the hair scales. The result is beautiful, easy styling without compromising health.

Pros of using

Never comb your hair with a comb after unwinding the curls. The curls will lose their shape and increase many times in volume. The romantic image will be replaced by a resemblance to a poodle. Gently spread the curls with your hands, dividing into several small curls. It is generally better not to touch large curls - they will fit beautifully by themselves.

  1. Homemade curlers are often used to curl children's hair. They do not require additional funds in the form of varnishes and gels. Little fashionistas are crazy about beautiful little curls. It will not be difficult for mom to wind her daughter's hair in the evening and put the baby to bed. For long children's hair (for small curls), you will need 30-40 papillotes. 2. To give lightness and airiness to the image, women use large-diameter home curlers. Small curls are not suitable for everyone. You can curl the ends of long hair using 10-15 curlers. Fast, easy, with a minimum of wasted effort and time. If you need small curls, you cannot do without outside help.
  3. Carefully curl your hair near your face. These curls will set the tone for your entire hairstyle. The curls will fall and fall beautifully on their own. You need to remove the curlers from the lower curls, located closer to the ears and back of the head. This way, the small lower curls will not get tangled.
  4. If the curls don't stick, use cosmetic wax. Not to be confused with gel! For a long, thick hairstyle, a pea-sized volume will suffice. It does not stick hair together, the hairstyle will be lively. Curls will remain unchanged throughout the day. The jar is enough for 1-2 years.

Important! Varnish or wax must be applied before shaping each curl separately. Styling products dry quickly (especially varnish). Hair that is stuck together is difficult to disassemble into strands. Read more about tools for creating and fixing curls on our website.

How to make and use

By making curlers at home, you are adjusting the diameter of future curls. Manufacturing will take about 15 minutes. You can use it up to 20 times. It is possible to wind up in the evening and go to bed calmly. You will find many tips on how to wind wet hair at night on our website.

From fabric

Necessary:

Textile. Take non-slip, closer to cotton. The synthetic knot will easily untie and the curl will fall apart. Do not use ribbons, knots from them are easily untied. Waking up in the morning without a couple of ready-made curls will be a shame.

We cut the fabric into strips 25–35 cm long and 1–2 cm wide.

Subsequence:

Place the end of the strand in the middle of the fabric and curl the hair until it stops. Fix the strand by tying the ends of the fabric with a knot.

Made of paper and fabric

Using curlers made of paper and fabric, we get soft, light curls.

Necessary:

  1. Textile. Similarly, take a non-sliding one, preferably cotton. It's good if the fabric stretches. An old, unnecessary T-shirt made of soft jersey will do.
  2. Paper. The newspaper will leave marks on the light strands. Use notebooks (blank) or office paper.

We cut the fabric into strips 25–30 cm long, 1–2 cm wide. We cut A4 paper or a sheet of a notebook lengthwise to a width of 5–7 cm (small curls), 9–13 cm (large curls). Fold the strips in half. We wind the paper in the middle of the fabric into a roll. For curls from 3 cm - paper, you need several layers.

Important! After unwinding the curls, do not use fixing agents. Moisture will weaken the springiness of the curls (small and large) and the hair will deteriorate.

When using for the first time, the paper should be slightly moistened with water, pressed down and allowed to dry. It will become softer, stop unwinding. This will make it easier to curl your hair, the paper is stiff and soft hair will come loose. No need to wet the paper when reused.

Subsequence:

Curl the hair to the inside. For curls along the entire length - wind from the ends to the stop. Holding your finger at the base, pull the fabric, tie a knot.

If you need soft waves, we form the strands weakly, avoiding tightening.

Foil

Necessary:

  • foil;
  • cotton wool for volume.

Make rectangles from foil with sides of 8 by 18 cm. Place cotton wool twisted with a tourniquet inside, fix. This type of curler is easy to use.

Note, curling with foil curlers faster than fabric. They do not require a tie, they are fixed by compression.

Subsequence:

Place the strand in the center. Leave 5 cm and start winding. First, 5 cm around the foil. Then twist the foil itself, winding future curls. Secure the strands by compressing the foil. To get large curls, you need a large amount of cotton wool.

From foam rubber

Cut the foam rubber into strips of 20–25 cm. Thick foam rubber (from 4 cm) - large strands, thin (up to 2 cm) - coquettish small curls. For long, thick hair, you will need about 10-12 strips.

Subsequence:

In the center of the strip, wind 5 cm of the selected strand. We twist the remaining hair under the bottom. Hold with your finger and form a knot.

Foam locks - spiral waving

Necessary:

  • foam rubber;
  • elastic band for fixing.

For long strands, the length of the strip is 18–20 cm. The diameter of the curls depends on the width of the strip. Width 2–4 cm - small curls, 5–7 cm - large strands. You need to take a strip and cut it to length, not cutting to the edge 2-3 cm.

Subsequence:

When using locks, hair should be started to wind not from the ends of the strands, but closer to the roots. We start a strand in a cut. Wrap evenly along the entire length. We fix the tip with an elastic band. Spiral curls look gorgeous with different hair lengths.
