What a gift to bring from America. What to bring from California: gifts and souvenirs. Wonderful American Jewelry

What to hide, in the USA there is excellent shopping - a huge selection, very nice prices. From time to time arriving in Europe and entering a store, I automatically counting "how much it costs in the USA" I start to get upset and sometimes, to be honest, I go out without shopping. In Europe, of course, there is something that the United States does not, and vice versa. This post is about pleasant little things that have been tested by me personally and have been donated and appreciated by friends and relatives more than once, and answer the question "what gifts to bring from the USA" or "what to buy in America."

For those who do not live here and who do not have the opportunity to fill an endless series of suitcases in the style of Arab sheikhs, the question inevitably arises of what to bring with them from America, or maybe what to send to relatives and friends in a small parcel.

Here is my list of tested and recommended for "exploitation" little things that can be found only here, or the prices for which in the United States are significantly lower (I have to disappoint intersants in buying American brands or equipment, the article is devoted to something completely different).

So, let's imagine that we are collecting a small package for relatives in Russia (the key word here is "small") that I would put there:

Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

The only obvious problem is the sockets. Nevertheless, I buy such brushes in the USA, even if I have to carry an adapter with me, I don't like the European options so much. Perhaps this is a subjective opinion, but ...

2. Continuing the "dental series", the second number is whitening strips... Personally, I prefer the old and trusted brand. "Crest"... The strips may not completely replace whitening in salons, but they are undoubtedly much cheaper, they have a more delicate effect on the enamel, and give a very good effect at home. They are different. You can do “all the work” in one go. But personally, I, the owner of sensitive teeth, do not like it, because the teeth then "groan" for a week. You can whiten your teeth in a week or 10 days. I usually prefer a very delicate one month course. These are two invaluable bonuses for me: suitable for sensitive teeth, the whitening effect lasts longer, because it "builds up" more slowly. By the way, I forgot to say that you need to keep the strips for only 5 minutes.

A few words why I love this scrub and highly recommend at least trying it: it helped me a lot during pregnancy and immediately after childbirth, after it there really is an effect, the skin is evened out, especially if you use it regularly, a very pleasant smell, and such a delicate structure that I even apply it on my face (I just use it not as "vigorously" as on my body).

4. Peanut butter. I myself am not a fan of this product, although I periodically make a sandwich with it when “I’m very hungry, but there’s no time to cook”, but many of my friends and relatives in Russia are just crazy about it. For example, for my dad, this is a traditional Christmas present that he invariably receives in the package or in person if we spend Christmas together. This oil is natural, very nutritious and healthy, and also something that cannot (as far as I know) be bought in Russia.

It is also very popular among lovers of this oil. Reese`s cookies.
I myself eat cookies with pleasure :) Especially tasty I find the cups of liver, filled with peanut butter and poured with chocolate on top. Judging by the report from my mother, who received several packages of these cookies for last Christmas, not me alone, because they were eaten instantly.

5. Clothes and gadgets for newborns.
In my humble opinion, baby products are better and cheaper than anywhere else in America. For three reasons: a huge CHOICE, very affordable PRICES, many of them for the baby's mother are simply life saving.
Yes, I really like the clothes for children in Europe. She is beautiful and of high quality. I would even say that fashion already exists in Europe for babies a few days old. But is it so important when the baby grows in the literal sense of Pushkin, that is, by leaps and bounds? In America, there may be clothes for babies with less show off, but you can buy a few dollars 'worth of a few months' supply for babies. At the same time, it will be soft, natural and cute. If you want cheap options, go (or order on-line) to Wallmart and Target, if you want more expensive ones, go to any store.

Of the additional products for babies, I recommend buying a thermometer that measures the temperature along the forehead (and no tears and inconveniences for you), nail scissors, a "comb" for the gums, children's Tylenol (when the baby's teeth start to cut or the temperature rises, it helps like nothing ).

Yes, maybe this is not a “cool” gift, but I have not met it in Russia, and in America I just became addicted to such packages “with lightning”. They are very comfortable. There are different sizes from small, to quite large. I remove vegetables that have already been cut into them, which are useful for salad or soup, but which I have not used today. Peeled fruits, cheese, biscuits…. and a lot more. I especially like bags with plastic zippers (for example, these), in them I remove shampoos and other liquids when we travel - very convenient! In general, I recommend them to all housekeeping girls. It will also be a great gift for moms!

Well, as they say, everyone has their own addictions. But many connoisseurs, both men and women, consider Henessy to be one of the best cognacs. In Russia, I don't even know if it is possible to buy it now, due to sanctions and other policies. It is also a great gift for dads, brothers, colleagues, and this cognac will never be superfluous in the home bar.

8. Local chocolate... No, not Hershy, as someone might have thought, but "Ghirardelli". His homeland is San Francisco, there, practically opposite the embankment, there is a factory, where in a company store you can first choose by tasting all in a row chocolate that your taste buds like, and only then buy what you like.

But you don't have to go to San Francisco. Chirardelli can be bought at any grocery store or ordered on Amazon. There are many different flavors of this chocolate, so you can take a platter as a gift to "taste".

9. Pulmers- a very popular series of body oils and creams in the USA, especially among women in position and in the process of postpartum recovery. This is perhaps the only thing that I have not tried on myself, I just watched the effect on my friends and relatives. The problem for me is the smell. He is strong, and you can't hide from him anywhere. But my relative, a mother of three children, by the way, claims that it was this product line that saved her from stretch marks. I heard the same responses from more than one young and not very young mother here.

10. Well Bobby Brown. You can buy everything. The facilities are just good. In addition, it is impossible to find such prices as in America, in Europe on Bobby Brown.

11. For those who are going to get married in the foreseeable future, I would advise you to bring Wedding Dress. I bought mine in America due to the fact that the wedding was organized there, but in the process of searching I found that there is just a great selection of charming wedding dresses. The prices are amazing too.

12. And for those who have children or who want to improve their English quickly and cheerfully, it is worth buying books by Dr. Seuss... This is just a wonderful find. You can buy absolutely any, they are all easy and rhythmically read, phrases are instantly remembered. The books also contain almost all of the most important rules of the English language. My child is not even a year old, and she already listens to them with pleasure, to me, well, I'm a little more, but I still correct my English according to them. The books are written in rhymed form and contain funny illustrations. In general, in my opinion, this is a great gift for friends and children, and for themselves! :)

That seems to be all that comes to mind now, if someone has experience buying other curious and useful things in the USA, I would be grateful for tips and comments.

Updates .

(December 2015). Now I go shopping in search of gifts to fill, I came across a few pleasant little things:

13. Family car stickers... Car glass stickers are very popular in the United States and, to be honest, I have wanted one for a long time. They are very diverse. I bought a "family" one. They also look different, who have enough imagination and a sense of humor. The price is the most pleasant (about $ 6). They are sold everywhere, from Walmart, to specialized services, where you can put any imagination into pictures.

14. Wall stickers decorations... Inexpensive, great looking and easy to apply and remove wall decorations (stickers). I bought some for the nursery.

They cost about $ 10-20, they look great, and when they get bored, they can be removed instantly. They are produced by different manufacturers, I would advise you to buy those made in the USA, the quality is better than that of Chinese or Korean counterparts. You can also find it on amazon.

(Summer 2016). With the move to Spain, the charm of some American products showed not just their desired side, it turned out that they (personally to me) are necessary, and it is simply impossible to find them in Spain. So numerous requests were sent to relatives and friends. So, what am I ordering now myself from America?

First of all, medications:

DayQuil & NyQuil for colds and flu.

In Spain, for such cases, pharmacies offer mainly paracetamol and it cannot be compared with these drugs. The first is for daytime, the second is for nighttime. I will not describe the advantages, try it and see for yourself: quickly, safely, efficiently. And the price is very reasonable.

For a child, without fail, I make an order for Tylenol... To my great surprise, despite all the praises of Spanish medicine, the choice of antipyretic and pain relieving drugs for babies under 2 years old in Spain also boils down to the only type of paracetamol.

And it tastes so disgusting that my child flatly refuses to drink it. In any form and in any mixtures. Meanwhile, there is a need for medicine for the baby - and when teeth are being cut, and when she has a bad cold. In this case, the American Tylenol for babies with various flavors helps me a lot. Our favorites are cherries and grapes.

I am also uploading a small video that one of my friends sent me, and at which I laughed heartily. So Amazon.com vs. Post office:

What things come to your mind when you talk about America? Freedom! Democracy! Jeans! You can argue endlessly about American democracy, but their jeans are really famous all over the world, and every self-respecting tourist brings at least a pair of them. I was no exception, but apart from them brought something else.

What to bring from America

On the first day, I could not resist and bought I love New York mug, a bunch of magnets and T-shirts with provocative inscriptions. Later, having curbed the base impulses, I nevertheless found way to spend money in the USA more intelligently and acquired:

  • clothes and shoes;
  • cosmetics;
  • sweets;
  • vinyl.

Clothes and footwear

It's no secret that american brands they are cheaper than in Russia. Most often, things are two, and sometimes three times cheaper. But I found the lowest prices on the net vintage Buffalo Exchange stores.

They sell brented clothes, shoes, bags, accessories at obscenely low prices. I got mine Levis for $ 18 instead of $ 100. In addition to the mass market, you can also find luxury brands there. If you are near New Jersey a must visit Jersey Gardens Mall and go there at Victoria's Secret(a global lingerie brand offers customers prices starting at $ 2). Also don't pass by New balance- sneakers there are more than three times cheaper.

Cosmetics

With cosmetics - a separate song. Personally, my eyes fled in different directions, and my legs became wadded, as soon as I saw the assortment, going into the first Sephora store... Choose brands Anastasia Beverly Hills, Urban Decay, MAC, Benefit- their product lines are much wider than Russian ones, and prices, of course, are lower.

American sweets

Bring american sweets I decided not for the sake of taste, but as a souvenir. For example, candy m & m's in the USA, they are represented by dozens of flavors and an incredible number of packages that you will not find anywhere else.

M & m "s store in New York

As well as Hershey "s and Reese "s... The latter, by the way, are added to chocolate peanut butter is a popular product of the American table. If you want to buy that very peanut butter, pay attention to the inscription on the package - it can be both salty and sweet.

Vinyl

If you love music, and you or your friends have a turntable at home, you simply cannot leave America without vinyl record! In almost every city you can find a small vinyl shop selling iconic music albums, collections, new items and many different vintages.

The Rolling Stones double LP was added to my collection for just $ 20!

Thinking about what souvenirs to bring your friends from America? Here's a quick tip.

What products or products do you associate with the United States of America? It is clear that this is the birthplace of "apple" devices, that Reebok or Levays are much cheaper here, that cosmetics and vitamins are just as wildly popular among women as good alcohol is among men.

But what if you have a lot of friends, and you are a budget tourist and you won't be able to fork out for American whiskey, iPhones and Tiffany for everyone? Yet America is an expensive country. Therefore, I offer a simple selection for mere mortals.

1. Souvenirs

If you don't have much time to find gifts, the easiest thing to do is to go to any gift shop. There you will definitely find a thousand little things that correspond not only to the topic of the United States in general, but also to individual states in particular (or even cities). For example, in New York, on the shelves of souvenir shops, you will find figures of the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty; in San Francisco - smaller copies of the Golden Gate Bridge; in Los Angeles - mini-Oscars; in Philadelphia - miniatures of the Liberty Bell ... And also T-shirts, mugs, magnets, key rings with images of these symbols or decorated in the colors of the American flag. However, this point has one small drawback: a good part of the goods from gift shops are of Chinese origin.

I decided to highlight t-shirts as a separate item, because this is such a classic gift that all travelers who have visited New York bring. In other large American cities, you can find the same T-shirts, only with different names (which is logical). If it is winter in your homeland for 9 months a year, then you can take a bike with a commemorative inscription - they are also available in large quantities and in any color. The idea of T-shirts and hoodies can be developed a little: clothes with the names of local universities or sports clubs are popular in America.

3. Peanut butter and CO

For us peanut butter- is not a novelty at all. And yet there is a variety of it that I have not yet met here. In total, in the US, I have come across 3 types of peanut butter: simple, with peanut pieces (my favorite) and with jam. Yes, yes, Americans manage to pour salty pasta and sweet jam (or honey) into one jar. Manufacturers know their lazy target audience well and strive in every way to make their life easier. The fact is that locals love to eat peanut butter, spreading it on bread, and sprinkling it with a good layer of something sweet on top. It is this type of peanut paste that is worth bringing to friends. The combination, of course, is peculiar, but that is why this souvenir will be interesting. And this peanut butter looks beautiful in a jar.

Americans are literally obsessed with this product, so they use it in a very different way: they add it to homemade baked goods, use it as a filling for sweets. Sweets and bars of the company are very popular. Reese's. Personally, I love their peanut butter cups - small chocolate cups stuffed with peanut butter.

4. Sweets

This item has absolutely no restrictions: there are so many flavors in American sweets that you can't help but like them 🙂 But I'll still try to remember a couple of noteworthy brands.

  • M & M's. What is the fundamental difference between these sweets and those that you can buy from us? If you go to an M & M’s specialty store, you will understand everything yourself. Firstly, here you can buy sweets by weight, choosing any color and size of the dragee at your discretion. Secondly, they sell cool gift sets with symbols or plastic figurines filled with colorful candies. I wrote more about one of these M & M’s stores in the third part.

  • Ghirardelli Chocolate... This company also produces chewing gum, but it is chocolates and square chocolate bars that have proven themselves. You can buy products in any American supermarket. There are a lot of tastes, so there is plenty to choose from. And if you are in San Francisco, be sure to drop by the factory where this chocolate is made. In the company store, you will be allowed to taste the product before purchasing.

  • Twizzlers gummies. A popular sweet in America. All in all, tasty, except for the licorice. But this is just my opinion, because friends gobbled up any Twizzlers by both cheeks (I specialized in peanut butter more). This is another American brand that cannot be ignored. Sweets come in different flavors, so if you don't know which one to choose, go for the assorted one.

  • Salt water taffy Honestly, I don't know if you can find these sweets in any state. I myself saw them only in New Jersey, and it seems to me that this is a typical sweetness for this particular region of the United States. Nevertheless, sweet and salty toffee on sea water in a beautiful package will be a worthy present from the States.

5. Maple syrup

Not really an American product, but very popular here. It was invented, of course, by the Canadians. However, show me an American who doesn't pour maple syrup on his morning pancakes. It must be some kind of immigrant conspiratorial under the local. Maple syrup is a pretty healthy product. And you can buy a "subglacial" only in the USA and Canada, because the syrup is made from sugar maples that grow in North America. In other countries, there is a possibility of running into a "fake" (diluted syrup or prepared on a different basis with the addition of flavoring). Maple syrup is sold in supermarkets. Hope you can find the syrup in beautiful maple leaf-shaped bottles.

6. Coffee

The first brand that comes to mind when talking about the United States is Starbucks... It is believed that American coffee of this brand is significantly superior in quality to that sold under a franchise in other countries. In addition, souvenirs with the Starbucks logo are also a kind of great present from a trip to the States. Seasoned travelers also praise American coffee brands. Taster's Choice and Marshall.

7. Historical souvenirs

What are we all about food, but about food? Let's talk about serious things: what do you know about American history?

Indian theme... Do you want to bring home something authentic? Then this is your topic. The Indians in the States, of course, are no longer what they were before, but the hand-made of their production is something very unusual, and sometimes even magical. Of course, such handicraft products are best bought on reservations: it is there that you will find many more all kinds of amulets, jewelry, amulets and other outlandish things. But you can run into such souvenirs in some souvenir shops. The store where I worked in New Jersey (and it was called, by the way, American West) sold things made by Indians. Dreamcatchers, for example, dispersed like hotcakes. And personally, at the end of the summer, as a reward, I got handmade earrings in the form of feathers from the owner of our shop. But take a note: if you buy such a product not on reservations, then at least check that it does not say Made in China.

Cowboy theme... Cowboy paraphernalia is no less interesting. A hat, a bolo tie (a leather cord fastened with a decorative clip), a badge on a belt - and a gift for a movie lover with Clint Eastwood is ready.

Vintage stuff. If you come across an antiques store, don't walk by. Here you can find a lot of interesting things: old records, posters, pin-up pictures, signs, license plates, comics ... whatever.

8. Christmas-themed souvenirs

Can you tell me who ate 101 Dalmatians to promote the Christmas brand and make a checkout every year? Right! USA. Therefore, Christmas-themed shops are open here all year round. In our little Cape May, I found at least 2 of these Christmas shops. And what was not there! Gingerbread men made of polymer clay immediately sunk into my soul. They have been decorating my Christmas tree for 6 years. Purchased in July in sunny New Jersey.

9. Books in English

If one of your friends is learning English, bring him a book as a gift. For example, the new "Harry Potter" in the translation "not from Rosman" is impossible to read, and in English we do not sell it. Classical literature in the original language is also a great gift. The same goes for comics. For Americans, these are not just illustrated magazines, but a real cultural phenomenon. Perhaps they could be attributed to historical souvenirs.

10. Sports-related souvenirs

Sports in the United States is an important component of national culture. Therefore, souvenirs with a reference to American football or baseball will speak. For example, if you are in Philadelphia, you can find souvenirs that say Phyllis (this is a local baseball club).

  • If you are thinking of buying equipment, keep in mind that the voltage in the United States is 110 V. Therefore, hair dryers, curling irons, irons, toasters, electric kettles, and coffee makers are most often suitable for use only in the United States. As for laptops, smartphones, tablets, epilators, electric shavers and wireless speakers, there should be no problems with them: they work quietly in the voltage range of 110-220 V. But since the sockets in the States are different, you will have to buy adapters for the plugs.
  • In-store prices do not include VAT. So be prepared for the price of the item at the checkout to rise slightly. Depending on the state, VAT ranges from 5% to 12%.
  • The further the store is from the tourist point, the lower the prices for souvenirs.
  • It is profitable to buy clothes in the USA in Outlets and Outfits. Outlet map: https://www.outletbound.com/outlet-malls.
  • It makes sense to buy alcohol in specialty stores - Liquor store - there is the largest selection of these products. The most popular alcoholic drinks that tourists bring from America are Canadian and American whiskey, bourbon, rum, pisco. Also look out for Root beer, a low alcohol drink made from the bark of the Sassafras tree. And remember that if you are under 21 years old, alcohol will not be sold to you either in the store or in the bar.
  • American-made vitamins and dietary supplements, as well as sports nutrition and cosmetics (EOS, MAC, NYX), have proven themselves well.

Are you going to the USA for a couple of weeks and do not know what to bring your friends and family? In this article, we will help you understand this issue. The United States of America is home to many brands and brands. Some of them are especially popular and, like nothing else, are associated in the minds of people with the United States. At the same time, many American products are difficult to find in other countries, they are often counterfeited or they are sold at unreasonably high prices. These are the ones you should pay attention to when you start visiting American stores in search of purchases.

An excellent gift for lovers of high-quality spirits will be American whiskey, beloved and famous all over the world. Strict quality control within the United States guarantees an almost zero likelihood of running into a fake, and the Duty Free shop at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) will delight in the price. A liter bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Sour Mash will cost about $ 35. For something more expensive and more prestigious, take the New Holland Zeppelin Bend bottle (from $ 70 for 750 ml).

Your gourmet friends will appreciate the gift of a can of real peanut butter. A product equal in quality to an American one can hardly be found outside America, the original homeland of this delicacy, which has a long tradition of production and use. Among the most established brands are Smart Balance, Skippy Natural, Trader Joe's. Prices are several times lower than in Russia or Ukraine: about 70 cents per 100 grams.

You cannot pass by the famous Starbucks coffee brand. This is a good gift for the coffee lover, as the quality of this coffee within the states significantly exceeds the quality of coffee sold by franchises in other countries. In coffee shops in the CIS countries, for example, you will find coffee made in Holland, which is easy to verify by reading the data on the packaging. Compared to American coffee, of course, this coffee loses a lot. Pack of 450 gr. Caffe Verona, bought in the United States, costs about $ 13.

Maple syrup is a very healthy and tasty product that, unfortunately, is very often counterfeited. This is due to the relative complexity of production and the limited number of sugar maples, which grow only in North America. In addition, the syrup harvesting season is only four to six weeks a year. Outside the US or Canada, the syrup you buy will most likely be half-diluted corn syrup with added flavors. Corn syrup, unlike maple syrup, does not bring any health benefits, and it is noticeably inferior in taste. The surest way to find real maple syrup is to buy it in the United States. Here it is sold everywhere in most supermarkets. For example, a 900 ml bottle of real premium Uncle Luke's syrup will set you back $ 23.

If you know the exact size of the person you are buying the gift for, buying that very piece of clothing may be a good option. There are several advantages here. First, there are many brands in the US that are not supplied to Russia and Ukraine. Secondly, local clothing far outperforms imported options in terms of quality of fabric and variety of colors and patterns. Thirdly, buying in the USA will cost you much less, thanks to all kinds of promotions and discounts that you will find everywhere. If you want to buy high-quality and inexpensive T-shirts, the American origin of which will be conspicuous, pay attention, for example, to the American Eagle and Abercrombie brand stores. Average price for a T-shirt: $ 20-30, and during sales periods, the price of such a T-shirt can drop to $ 5.

For those who decide to purchase books in English, there is a huge number of bookstores in the United States with an immense assortment and very affordable prices. Whether you are looking for an inexpensive edition of Harry Potter printed on newsprint or an antique deluxe edition of Charles Dickens's writings, you will find both without too much trouble. Prices vary greatly depending on the place of purchase.

If you are interested in traditional souvenirs, the USA is more than capable of meeting your needs. Souvenirs that are universal for the United States, such as M&M "s plush toys, cowboy hats, images of the American flag or" Indian "amulets can be found almost anywhere in the country.

Also, almost all US cities, from small resorts to megacities, produce unique souvenirs with local specific symbols.

In most large cities, you can find the so-called "snowballs" - Christmas souvenirs that depict a particular landmark of the city in three dimensions under a glass ball and with floating sparkles in the form of snow (from $ 20).

The list of possible souvenirs from the USA is endless, but now you know what and where to look, and do not waste your time. Enjoy the shopping!

Many people travel the world today. There can be many reasons: rest, job search, business trips. In most cases, these can be key chains, magnets, and other minor souvenirs. But what to bring from America if you managed to get to this wonderful country? In the USA there is absolutely everything that your heart desires, but if the task is to buy such things that you cannot find in your homeland during the day with fire, then you should think about it.

As a gift to family and loved ones, if not electronics. iPad, iPhone, Macbook in the US are much cheaper than in European markets, and their quality is excellent. Before buying, you should definitely look at the firmware language, so that in the future there will be no problems, you need to pay attention to the capabilities of the service. If the product is purchased at night, then a significant discount can be achieved.

What is profitable to bring from America is branded clothing and footwear. Victoria's Secret women's cosmetics and lingerie are much cheaper than in Europe or Russia. All clothes are of high quality, so you won't have to regret the money thrown away on new clothes.

What to bring from America as a gift for women if not jewelry. The American brand David Yurman deserves special attention. You can buy bracelets, braided rings and other jewelry in stores. It is worth purchasing silver items from the Tiffany trading house, the price is indicated from the manufacturer, and they are known all over the world. If you are interested in the question of what to bring a child from America, then you should pay attention to toys and clothes. Among the brands for children, Pumpkin Patch, Gymboree, Babysrus, Target should be distinguished. Very soft and high quality shoes are sold here, clothes are offered at a low price.

In the USA, many people buy remedies for colds, even in the midst of an epidemic, Nyquil, Dayquil will help to forget about the flu. Advil and Tylenol have good analgesic and antipyretic properties. Those with good, strong enamel can use Crest whitening strips, which also have decent toothpastes. Women will definitely love American cosmetics.

Tourists with large sums of money can be advised to buy a car. It's okay that you have to bring it from America with the help of specialized firms, but the purchase at the price will fully justify itself. Even taking into account all the costs, the car will still come out cheaper than in Europe. In addition, American cars have a large set of options, the real mileage is indicated and it is possible to use Russian brands of gasoline. In the United States, you can buy a lot of high-quality and interesting things that are either very expensive in Russia or which are absent at all. Therefore, if such an opportunity presents itself, it is necessary to purchase all the goods of interest.
