How to use rhinestones and sequins for a spectacular manicure. How to stick rhinestones on your nails

It has long been no secret that most girls are not indifferent to a variety of stones and shiny accessories. And if you are one of those glitter lovers, then you have an amazing opportunity to place a few glitter on your nails.

To begin with, before you decorate your nails with rhinestones, you definitely need to do a manicure. After all, there is nothing worse than a shiny element on an uneven, slightly yellow surface. And such a manicure will not bring you health!

Now that you have already understood that the presence of at least one layer of varnish under the overlay elements is a prerequisite for a successful manicure, let's figure out what rhinestones are. And these are nothing more than small decorative pebbles, ground off on one side.

They can be attached to the nail plate with glue. Of course, some craftsmen use varnish for fastening, but pebbles fixed in this way fall off the nail much faster.

Rhinestones are the perfect solution for any girl who wants to match modern fashion trends. And if you have enough patience and creativity, then you can create a similar manicure at home.

But before we study with you how to attach them to the nail plate, let's see what these small decorative elements are made of. So, most often you can find rhinestones made of glass, crystal or plastic in cosmetic stores.

A feature of such decorations is a completely flat and smooth one side, on which glue is applied. But on the reverse side we have a full-fledged stone, thanks to the edges of which a beautiful shine is obtained.

How to glue rhinestones on nails: basic rules

In principle, the procedure itself is quite simple, but you still need to know a few basic rules. I would like to say that you will not need to buy any accessories in order to create such a manicure.

To decorate you will need:

  • The rhinestones themselves;
  • A thin brush or a small wooden stick;
  • Special cosmetic glue;
  • Fixing varnish.

At these four points, the list of necessary things for decorating marigolds with sequins ends. As you can see, such materials do not require special investment, so you can easily acquire them.

Now for the general rules of the fastening process itself. Never try to fix the shiny stone immediately after applying the last coat of varnish. So you spoil the drawing, and you will not be able to fix the rhinestone normally. Therefore, it is worth letting the surfaces of the nails dry out a little.

It is best to use a special cosmetic adhesive for fastening. If you don't have one at hand, and you need a beautiful manicure right now, then you can replace it with an ordinary transparent varnish.

But there are several nuances here. For example, if we attach to varnish, then later you will need to apply a fixer on top of the varnish. And because of it, the pebbles themselves may fade a little, and the whole composition will no longer look bright. This is especially true for rhinestones made of plastic.

If you want to apply several patterns after the pebbles have been glued, then use a toothpick or a thin brush for this, the tip of which must be dipped in varnish. And the last thing: in no case should you touch the pebbles until they are completely dry.

As soon as you move the rhinestone at least a millimeter and the whole composition is instantly disturbed. In addition, after such a shift, the varnish may bubble or even crack.

How to glue rhinestones: decorating rules

As you can imagine, having the ability to attach pebbles to a nail does not mean being able to do beautiful makeup. Indeed, in addition to the technical part of creating a manicure, there is also a creative one. This means that you also need to learn how to come up with beautiful patterns that will look spectacular, but not vulgar.

First of all: remember that too many rhinestones can ruin even the most beautiful ideas. So don't overload your nails with glitter. Besides, you and I think that these small shiny elements are very lightweight.

But for our nail plate, such a load is quite significant. Therefore, if you overload the marigold, it will break very quickly.

As for the color, if you have a classic manicure - pay attention to transparent or beige rhinestones. If different colors are present in the manicure, then the color of the shiny pebbles should either repeat the shade of one of the main elements, or be contrasting with respect to the base. Otherwise, you will end up with complete bad taste!

You should not glue large rhinestones on short nails, as this will visually shorten them even more. In this case, it would be more appropriate to pay attention to very small rhinestones. And small pebbles will practically not cling to clothes.

And one more thing: if you decide to use rhinestones, then you should not use small flowers, feathers and any other decorations to decorate your manicure. Since in this case, the manicure will turn out to be smeared, and this is ugly.

We glue rhinestones on a manicure: features of the procedure

As we already said, if there are two ways to glue something to the nail: using varnish or cosmetic glue. Since today you and I are interested in a more durable option, we will focus on cosmetic glue.

First of all, you need to apply a base polish to the nail, and then one or two coats of colored polish. After the top layer has dried, you need to apply a few drops of glue to the places where you plan to place the rhinestones. You need to take a small amount of glue on the brush, otherwise it may flow over the nail plate and ruin the entire appearance.

And one more thing: so that the rhinestones do not cling to your hair or tights, you should make sure that the varnish is evenly distributed under the rhinestone. You can even make it so that it extends slightly beyond the edge of the pebble. And, of course, you should polish your nail with a fixative after the final touch has been applied.

How to glue rhinestones on shellac

For many women, as they studied our article, most likely the question arose: how to fix rhinestones on gel polish, because this is a special case of creating a manicure. The first thing to say about this: you shouldn't even experiment and try to fix rhinestones with ordinary transparent varnish. The pebbles in this case will only stick to the glue.

Also, if you use shellac, you must remember that with this type of varnish, the nail plate retains its flexibility. And this is not very good when applying a pattern with rhinestones, since this will peel off much faster. So if you want a long-lasting manicure, then the pebbles need to be fixed in those parts of the nail where it practically does not bend.

The application procedure is the same as if you glued rhinestones on natural nails: put a small drop of glue on the nail and press the rhinestone to it. But before that, be sure to let the gel polish dry a little, otherwise the rhinestone may press into it too much.

The design of nails with rhinestones looks very impressive, bright and brilliant, but the experience of using them on varnish is not always positive: rhinestones quickly fall off, and they simply interfere in everyday life. But with rhinestones on gel polish, everything is completely different: if you properly glue the rhinestones on the gel polish (even on the entire nail), then it will not only look great and wear well, but, as I have seen from my own experience, it is very convenient - you hardly notice them in a sock, only a little constant glitter distracts the eye. :)

How to glue rhinestones on gel polish?

To demonstrate the process, I made a simple design, where I completely decorated one nail on the ring finger with rhinestones.

I did the inlay with rhinestones using In'Garden gel polish, you can read its review. And rhinestones were used by Swarovski (Swarovski). It is they who create the special shine due to the fact that they are cut.

How to glue rhinestones?

Rhinestones on gel polish can be attached with different materials. This largely determines their wear period.

  1. Top for gel polish. This is the easiest option when nothing else is at hand. It should be borne in mind that small crystals and beads can “float away” (especially if the top is liquid) while you place them in a drawing, so they will need to be corrected before drying.
  2. Top for rhinestones... Such a finish for attaching rhinestones can now be found at many manufacturers. They are usually much thicker and really enhance adhesion to the jewelry due to this. Its plus is that the top for rhinestones does not have stickiness, which is difficult to remove from a regular top without leaving lint on the rhinestones. It is applied not on the entire surface, but pointwise under rhinestones or under a strip of rhinestones, after which beads are installed on it.
  3. A mixture of top and acrylic powder... It is convenient to make such a blank for large rhinestones and any other voluminous jewelry. The proportion of the top to acrylic powder is about 1 to 3, so that the finish becomes a little thicker than it really is, but does not turn into mush. A drop of this mixture is placed in the place where the decoration will be located. The size of the drop should be slightly larger than the rhinestone so that it “drowns” in it, forming a barely noticeable rim. Then you do not need to do an additional top stroke around the rhinestones.
  4. Glue... Rhinestones on gel polish can be glued not only to the top, but also to the glue, however, it dries quickly, and you will not have the opportunity to correct the arrangement of the beads, as is the case with the top.

Technique for attaching crystals to gel polish

  1. The creation of a gel-varnish coating is no different from the usual process, and I wrote about it in more detail with all the subtleties. Both single-phase and three-phase gel varnishes can be used under rhinestones. So you've gotten to the stage where you applied the color coat in two coats, but haven't used the top yet.
  2. We apply the top on all nails that do not have rhinestones, and dry them in a lamp.
  3. On the nail, where the rhinestones will be located, we apply a top, and without drying it, freshly put the beads on it in the order we need. The rhinestone needs to be well pressed so that it is a little "drowned" in the top.
  4. Dry in a lamp for two minutes
  5. Next, using a thin brush, we go through the top between the rhinestones, carefully distributing it and trying not to climb the stones themselves. We process the side lines last.
  6. We send the top to dry in the lamp.
  7. We remove the sticky layer with a special tool, if any.

How to remove rhinestones from gel polish?

Yes, this question will also appear with you over time - do not even expect that they will disappear during the process of wearing! The rhinestones hold onto the top very reliably: I wore them for 5 days and only 3 pebbles at the tip fell off during homework.

It will help to remove rhinestones from the gel polish, or rather its reverse side with a sharp hatchet. This is the fastest and easiest way. You can, of course, try to cut them down, remove them with a milling cutter or soak them with a nail polish remover - all these methods are quite acceptable, but costly in time and effort.

Each rhinestone is removed in turn. To do this, pry it off with a hatchet with a little pressure. If this is difficult, then try to approach it from the other side or leave it for later when there is more space around. Well, if he does not want to go to any at all, cut him down with a file.

So, the rhinestones were removed, but a thick layer of the top remained, with which we filled in the distance between them. It is cut down with a hard file (about 100 grids), like the top on all other marigolds.

Then we act according to the standard scheme, I talked about it in detail. We make a compress for 10 minutes and remove the remaining gel polish with an orange stick. That's all! Removing rhinestones is no more difficult than any other gel polish design.

Design with rhinestones on gel polish: photo examples

I will show some more of my examples of nail design on gel polish using rhinestones of different sizes and shapes. Links to tutorials for each design are given below the photo.

I love all kinds of decorations for nails, stickers, rhinestones, adhesive tapes, etc. I don’t always wear colored varnish, and I often don’t have enough time to paint on my nails. And if you paint your nails in a bright color for a long time, they begin to fade and break. And a good foundation does not help. Therefore, I do this. First, a standard grooming manicure, and then apply some kind of medicated varnish. It can be transparent, or with a slight shade. And if you leave it that way, then the manicure looks a little boring. This is where all kinds of decorations come to my aid.

So, how to glue rhinestones on your nails at home. I tried two ways. The first is for glue, the second for varnish.

I also apply it to the nail plate in two ways. I have special thin tweezers for these purposes - this is option number one. Well, the second option is to take a regular orange stick for manicure. You can, of course, just apply rhinestones with your finger, especially when they are large, but it does not always work out exactly. Therefore, I use tweezers for large rhinestones, and a stick for small ones.

They stick well when two layers of varnish are applied or one thick and the varnish has not yet time to dry. If rhinestones are glued immediately after application, then they can move out of their place.

Apply, dry and cover with another layer so that the rhinestones hold better.

If I use the glue from the kit to glue the rhinestones on my nails, then I get the following picture. Firstly, tweezers are required here, since the slightest touch of glue with a finger and a strass will remain on your finger, and not on the nail. But even when the rhinestone hits the nail plate covered with a protective varnish, it sticks very badly. Maybe, of course, I came across not very good glue and everything will be different for you. If you know what kind of glue to glue the rhinestones so that they hold well - write in the comments. I would appreciate that.

Surely every girl who looks after her nails tried to make a gel polish coating in a nail service salon.

Many girls are against this procedure, they believe that during the preparation for applying the coating, the nail is injured, especially if it is done over and over again.

One of the advantages of gel polish is that rhinestones can be applied to it, which will decorate a girl's nails for a long time.

Gel polish: at home or in the salon?

It is almost impossible to carry out such a procedure on your own. Even if it is possible to carefully stick the rhinestones on one hand, difficulties will arise: the layer of gel or varnish has not yet dried out, but it is necessary to deal with the other hand.

It is best to make an appointment with a manicure master, where professionals will do everything as required. Moreover, it is unlikely that a girl has a special lamp at home with which the layers of gel are dried. And without this lamp, it is impossible to do a manicure. All masters know this as well as gluing rhinestones on nails. Gel polish is no exception. But there is a nuance. Only manicurists from salons know how to glue rhinestones on gel polish.

What is the complexity of such a manicure?

The difficulty of coating with gel polish is that you have to remove the top layer of the nail and apply several layers of gel, waiting for it to dry. A manicure takes over an hour.

But girls are still ready to endure such torment in order to make their nails beautiful and eye-catching. In addition to applying various patterns, manicurists often apply rhinestones. How to glue rhinestones on gel polish? It is very simple, but it requires a lot of preparation.

In addition, you can apply a pattern. A girl can choose a separate pattern for each nail, but it is not recommended to overdo it with this. It is good if only two, maximum three nails are filled with a pattern, otherwise the manicure will be too overloaded.

How to properly glue rhinestones on gel polish?

First you need to pick up rhinestones of a certain color or shade. If a girl is going to wear jewelry made of gold or gilded jewelry, rhinestones should be in harmony with them, have a yellowish tint. If the image is dominated by silver, the rhinestones should be colorless.

It should be remembered that rhinestones are not so easy to remove, so their choice must be approached with some care.

It is good if glitter is not present in the manicure. It looks beautiful without additional decorations on the nail, but if you add large rhinestones, the manicure will look vulgar.

Moreover, if there are rhinestones on the nails, which are already jewelry, you should not put rings and bracelets on your hands. Excess jewelry will also look vulgar. There should not be a lot of jewelry on gentle female hands, this makes the image overloaded. The girl herself chooses the color of the varnish and the pattern, as well as the rhinestones, but they know how best to glue the rhinestones on the gel varnish only in the salon.

Procedure

Usually rhinestones are attached after the main part of the manicure has been completed, all the necessary layers have been applied. If a girl does a manicure not for the first time, then the nail, which will be decorated with rhinestones, does not need to be painted over.

It should also be remembered that if you cover all your nails with rhinestones, it will also look vulgar. Most often, two, maximum three nails are covered with rhinestones in a symmetrical pattern, and the rest are not touched. So it is more beautiful and more practical.

You need to start applying carefully, and take rhinestones with something thin, but at the same time reliable, for example, tongs that will not release the rhinestone if your hand trembles.

It is better to lay them out from the side of the cuticle, smoothly moving towards the end of the nail. The layer on which the rhinestones are laid should be thick enough so that the jewelry does not blur. How to glue rhinestones on gel polish, any girl who has gone to a similar manicure at least once will understand.

After distributing the jewelry between them, the top layer is carefully applied. It often happens that there are gaps between small rhinestones that are not in harmony with the rest of the nail. And such gaps need to be filled with a top. This is done with a thin brush with care so as not to get on the rhinestones, otherwise it will ruin their shine.

Are there reliable fastening methods?

How to glue rhinestones on gel polish? In sets with rhinestones, which you can buy yourself in a store or choose those offered in the salon, there is glue, and they are "planted" on it. The shelf life of such a manicure does not depend on the methods of attachment, but on how to care for your nails. You need to make sure that nothing happens to the rhinestones, then the manicure will look as if it was done just yesterday.

There is only one way how best to fix rhinestones on gel polish - carefully and carefully.

For a more reliable manicure, you only need to monitor whether the remaining layers have dried out enough, whether the drying time under the lamp has been sustained.

Does gel polish have serious disadvantages?

How long will the rhinestones last? The manicure will last for two to three weeks. But be careful. When doing housework, the girl must wear gloves that protect against the effects of detergents, and hot water must not be used.

Hot water steams the nail, and rhinestones may fall off prematurely.

If you carefully handle the manicure, then it will last a long time.

When it's time to remove the rhinestones, you should go to the salon for correction. Coating with gel polish is bad only because it needs to be constantly restored, which takes time and costs money.

The rhinestones in the nail salon will be removed with a special pusher, and if you cannot separate them from the nail, they are cut off with a file.

Gel polish has only one drawback: if you regularly do such a manicure for a long time, removing the top layer of the nail, over time the nail plate will become thin and brittle, the nail will begin to exfoliate. But for girls with strong nails, this problem is not terrible, especially if the gel polish is rarely done.

Where to go with such a manicure?

Most often, girls turn to a nail salon with a request to cover their nails with gel polish and rhinestones in connection with some festive event: a wedding, graduation or an important business meeting for which you need to look your best.

Rhinestone-covered, neat nails are great for this. Having done a manicure once, you can not worry about it for two weeks, observing only precautions. Moreover, before removing the rhinestones, you can attend several events so that everyone will notice the beauty of the girl's nails.

And after that you can go for a correction and again enjoy a fresh, beautiful manicure.

Well-groomed nails and beautiful manicure have become as important elements of the image as a haircut and well-chosen clothes. Every year, nail design gurus come up with new ways to stand out from the crowd. However, shiny rhinestones and stones consistently occupy the top positions in manicure trends, along with the classic jacket and graphic design.

Using rhinestones has become much more convenient and practical with the advent of gel polish. Such a manicure remains presentable for a long time and, with the correct selection of glue, the jewelry is securely attached to the surface. In this article, we will analyze in detail how to glue rhinestones on gel polish so that they do not fall off. What adhesive to pick up and how to remove these rhinestones later without damaging the nail plate.

The modern market offers rhinestones for every taste: every possible size, color and shape. Often, the choice of one or another pebble is a matter of taste, but keep in mind a few points:

  • Better quality stones are made of glass or crystal, they are more durable, less prone to chipping, and look more expensive.
  • Plastic rhinestones are cheaper, but also of lower quality. On the other hand, if you need such a decoration for one evening, why pay more?
  • Smaller stones are easier to attach and hold better.
  • Don't go for the cheapest materials. Even good glue does not compensate for the poor quality of the stone.
  • If the rhinestone is not rubbed and has no chips, you can safely use it a second time. So for lovers of brilliant manicure, it makes sense to immediately dwell on high-quality pebbles.

Rhinestones made from Swarovski crystals are especially popular.

You can also glue beads on your nails (caviar manicure) and broths (small balls similar to beads).

Adhesive selection

A sure way to secure the strasses to your nails is to glue them. But which glue should you choose? Is it possible to take advantage of the ubiquitous moment, or is it worth getting a special composition?

On the one hand, nothing will happen to your nails from using household glue. But, on the other hand, not all rhinestones can survive it. There is a great risk of dissolving the shiny film at the base, then the stones will lose their attractive shine. The first at risk will be plastic samples.

Moreover, non-specialized formulations do not guarantee reliable adhesion of the stones with varnish, so you can lose all the beauty on the way to work or somewhere else.

Specialty glue characteristics:

  • Rhinestones and other decorative elements are effectively glued.
  • Convenient small bottles, equipped with a special brush.
  • Transparent composition of medium viscosity.
  • Affordable price.
  • Multifunctional: in addition to decorating, such glue can glue a nail crack, as well as glue extended nails or tips.
  • Some manufacturers claim that the composition additionally strengthens the nail and protects against UV rays.

By the way, special glue is often sold together with rhinestones.

On a note: an alternative to glue can be planting rhinestones on gel polish.

How to stick rhinestones on your nails?

You can glue rhinestones only on prepared nails, so first we remove all dirt, remove the cuticle, it is also advisable to polish the surface of the nail with a soft nail file / buff. The better the nail plate is prepared, the better the varnish and decorative elements on it will hold.

Stages of applying gel polish:

  • Preparation of nail plate.
  • Degreasing.
  • Application of a primer.
  • Application of a base coat of gel (curing in a lamp).
  • Application of color (2 layers, each layer of gel is dried in a lamp).
  • Decorating.
  • Fastening (drying in a lamp).
  • Removing the sticky layer.

The rhinestones themselves can be attached in two ways: on gel polish or with special glue. Below we will analyze these methods in detail.

For gel polish (shellac)

This method is very fond of both masters of the nail service and those who like to do manicure on their own. It provides a good grip and does not cling to the garment.

Important! If you decide to use this method, you need to come up with the design and layout in advance. Since in the process you will not have time for this.

  • Further preparing the nail for applying gel polish: cleanse, remove the cuticle, shape, grind the nail plate.
  • The next step apply a base and two layers of gel polish(each layer is dried in a special lamp).
  • First, we apply the top (top coat) to the nails, which are not supposed to be designed. Dry in a lamp.
  • Next, we put the top on the nail, where there will be rhinestones, but do not dry it. Gently use tweezers (a thin brush, toothpick or orange stick to make a layout. At the same time, you need to press on the pebbles so that they drown a little in the varnish. Then dry in the lamp.
  • You can correct the position of the rhinestone using the same stick, brush or toothpick. Until the composition is frozen, it will not be difficult.

Important! You do not need to do all the nails with the design at once. We put a top on one nail, decorated it, dried it in a lamp, moved on to another nail.

  • After all the rhinestones are attached, take the brush and once again run the top over the decorated nails. Try not to get the material on the stones, carefully coat all the gaps between them.
  • Finally, dry in a lamp (at least 2 minutes).
  • We remove the sticky layer with a special liquid (some tops do not have a sticky layer, then nothing else needs to be done).
  • On special glue

The second effective method of attaching rhinestones to nails is a special glue:

    • First, you still need to do a manicure, cover your nails with a base and two layers of gel polish (each applied layer is dried in a lamp).
    • Next, you need glue and a sharpened orange stick (you can use a toothpick).
    • The glue can be applied either on the nail (with a stick to put the glue point in the right place), or on the rhinestone itself. Try it, see which method is more convenient for you personally.
    • We wait until the glue dries. Specify the drying time in the instructions of the glue (often on the tube itself).
    • Gently apply the top, smearing all the joints, but without getting on the stones. Dry in a lamp.

Important! It is better to choose a top coat without a sticky layer. Less likely to damage the structure.

If the rhinestones are glued with good quality, they should not fall off during wear. To remove jewelry you can:

    • Use a gel polish remover. The base will get wet and the rhinestones can be simply picked off with an orange stick or a manicure pusher.
    • Decorations set on glue can be removed with a special compound.
    • Mechanical stress is often sufficient. You can pick off the pebble with a nail pusher or old tweezers. Do not be afraid for the nail, there are several more layers of varnish between it and the rhinestones.

    Thermal stickers with rhinestones

You can simplify your life with the help of iron-on stickers (iron-on applications) with rhinestones. In fact, these are ready-made drawings made of rhinestones, laid out on a special thermal film. It is transferred to the nail using a heat press or a special thermal applicator for rhinestones.

To glue the rhinestones you need:

    • Prepare your nail (it should be clean and smooth).
    • Apply the sticker to the nail, heat it up and iron it with a heat press or a soldering iron applicator.
    • Wait 3 minutes until the glue has cooled.

This method saves time, plus the stones last longer. However, it requires additional equipment.

Finally, we have collected useful tips and life hacks for you to help you make a beautiful and high-quality manicure with rhinestones:

    • Be responsible for the choice of materials. Quality stones will look better, last longer and can be used a second time. Choose a good gel polish so it doesn't crack or bubble when dry.
    • When gluing rhinestones, it is better to use top coatings without a sticky layer, while the top should not be too liquid.
    • Manicurists prefer to lay out using an orange stick dipped in water.
    • Try not to get the top coat on the surface of the rhinestones. From this they lose their attractive shine.
    • Small stones hold better.
    • It is better not to get carried away with large rhinestones. A large number of large jewelry can make a manicure not only uncomfortable, but also vulgar.

There are a lot of options for laying out rhinestones. With their help, you can make a jacket, moon manicure, lay out graphic designs, inscribe rhinestones in art painting (for example, put a rhinestone in the center of a flower), cover the entire surface with rhinestones, etc. Try, experiment, but observe the measure.

    Finally

If you decide to glue rhinestones at home, carefully read all the recommendations. Do not skimp on materials, carefully prepare the marigolds, do not forget to cover them with a top at the end and dry them well in a lamp. Then the decorations on the nails will hold well and delight their owners for a long time.

And, of course, everything requires skill and practice. Therefore, it is better to do your first attempts with a simple design.
