How to sew seams on a knitted garment. How to sew knitwear flawlessly. Single crochet with air loop

Often, knitted things after washing and drying cause the owner to ask the question of how it is now dry and clean By the way, to give it a neat look, because you cannot iron it with an iron, like a regular fabric product. In this case, it should simply be steamed, it is quite easy to do even for a person, rarely stands behind an ironing board.

If you wash the finished product, then the loops will fit evenly, this is necessary when the canvas looks untidy. This is very often observed in beginners, the hand is not trained and the loops come out of different sizes.

Also, after steaming, the knitted fabric becomes elastic and after that it is easier to sew. In knitwear ateliers they always said: " After steaming, the product takes on a presentation «.

You will need:

  • A piece of gauze cloth

Attention! Before steaming a knitted garment, be sure to test the steaming process on a knitted sample. Instruction.

1. For steaming at home with an iron of the previous generation, that is, it does not have any other modes besides the mode of ironing itself (such irons are still preserved), set the iron heating sensor to the maximum temperature.

2. Carefully lay the knitted item prepared for steaming on an ironing board or other flat surface (first place at least a four-fold blanket under the item, if steaming will be carried out not on a special surface of the ironing board).

3. Moisten abundantly with water and squeeze the prepared piece of gauze cloth to a light moisture state, through which steaming will be carried out.

4. Place a piece of gauze over the knit.

5. Pick up a heated iron and bring it as close to the surface of the gauze as possible without touching it. The distance from the sole of the iron to the gauze should be about 0.5-1 cm.

6. Run the iron gently over the surface of the damp gauze. In this case, the water from the gauze will evaporate, and the threads of the product will take on a neat appearance. Also, you can use an iron with a steaming function. To do this, pour water into the special compartment of the iron, set the steaming mode and move the iron over the surface of the knitted garment.

In especially difficult cases, you can use the steam boost function, in which a strong jet of steam is supplied from the soleplate to the item you are using, which then takes on the appearance of a neat product.

If the knitted pattern has not broken the shape of the part of the product, then the paired parts are pinned together and steamed with a hot iron on a very soft mat through a damp cloth. It is steamed, not ironed! DO NOT use the iron, just touch.

Some patterns distort the shape of the part, narrower or smaller than the specified pattern. In such cases, the knitted part is pricked into the pattern with the wrong side up and steamed in this form, then you need to leave the part to dry right on the pattern.

A soft bedding is necessary for steaming, so that the pattern does not flatten.

It is not recommended to steam very convex patterns (braids, bumps).

Details with such patterns are best washed and wrung out without squeezing, then put on an absorbent substrate. Put the pattern of this part on top and spread the part over the pattern. Let dry.

Only after these procedures start assembling the product.

1. We sweep ironed products with bobbin threads on the wrong side " over the edge". In the process of sweeping, do at the same time landing along the lines of the shoulder, side lines. Next, the details need to be sewn on a sewing machine. Remove basting thread.

2. Seam to the needle, or stitch .

In appearance it resembles a machine line.

A seam for a needle is very often performed by craftswomen, such a seam is practically invisible, but the disadvantage is that small extra edges remain, and that this seam is not elastic.

Such a seam can be made both from the seamy side and from the front side of the product.

From the seamy side, we lay the seam like this:

We compose two parts with the right sides inward, and sew on the wrong side according to the scheme. It is better to take the thread with which the main product was knitted and insert it into a needle with a large eye and a rounded end. Make the stitches as small as possible, even and of the same length.

On the front side, such a seam is performed when there are open loops. The figure shows an example of such a seam when connecting horizontal and vertical knitting.

3. You can manually sew parts on the front side .

Such a seam is made correctly, completely invisible. There are several options for the execution of such a seam, the implementation of which is presented in the figures.

First way: "Stick the needle inside the edge loop"

Second way: "For broaching"

4.bottom hem skirts, dresses can be sewn with a buttonhole, but crocheted. To do this, bend the part along the hinge column, so that its direction is from left to right. Crochet a row (half-column) from right to left in each loop of the buttonhole.

I put a gauze in a bowl of water. I turn on the iron at maximum heat. I lay out the part on the table. The gauze is slightly squeezed out and applied to the part. With one hand, lightly touching the gauze, I lead over the product. My other hand is under the gauze and gently straightens the edge of the product. After one such "trip" on the part, it becomes almost equal. I iron on the part until the gauze dries out a little. Then, carefully, with both hands, I lift the part and move it to a place where it, along with other parts, can lie until it dries out. It is important to remember that a damp and hot part can be easily deformed. To avoid this, I lift the part by placing both hands, palms up, so that the part rests on the area up to the elbows.

I put the knitted details, and not pinning on the pattern, on a fluffy bath towel (if openwork, then you can face up, if the pattern is more or less convex, then seamy side up), steam in the iron to the maximum, cover the details with double or triple gauze and without touching details, at a distance of 1-1.5 cm I process with steam, I did acrylic in the same way, but the size increased slightly. After stitching the seams, I also pass steam through the gauze without touching the iron. In the course of steaming, remove the gauze more often and smooth out the contour of the part. In my experience, this is the most successful steaming method.

1. Horizontal knit stitch: (loop-to-loop seam)

a) It is used to connect hosiery parts by open loops. Does not violate the structure of the knitted fabric and maintains its elasticity. When sewing with a loop-to-loop seam, an additional row is always formed on the fabric. If, for example, they knit a pattern with a rapport in 4 rows, then on one part they knit two rows (we see a finished row and a row on a knitting needle), and on the second part they knit only 1 row, the loops on the knitting needles will give us the 4th rapport row. The open loops of both parts are placed opposite each other and sewn from right to left on the front side with a thread of the same color and thickness with which the parts were knitted. For this:

  • the needle is inserted from the bottom up from the seamy side to the front side in the 1st loop of the bottom row
  • then - from top to bottom from the front side to the purl in the 1st loop of the top row and immediately bring it up from the bottom to the next standing 2nd loop of the top row
  • the needle is inserted from top to bottom from the front side to the purl into the 1st loop of the lower row and immediately withdrawn from the bottom up into the adjacent 2nd loop of the lower row. Then - from top to bottom in the 2nd loop of the upper row, and bring it out into the adjacent 3rd loop, etc.

The seam loops should be the same size as the fabric loops. Only under this condition will the seam be absolutely invisible. If the parts to be sewn are tied with a 1x1 elastic band, then the same method can be used when joining. To do this, by placing the loops against each other, only the front loops are connected to each other, skipping the purl. Then turn the product with the wrong side towards you and sew the remaining loops with the same seam (they are front on the wrong side)

When sewing from a knitting needle, insert the needle from bottom to top, first into the edge loops of the lower and upper parts. After that, insert the needle from top to bottom into the edge loop of the lower part and pull it out from the bottom up from the next loop. Then remove the 2nd loop from the knitting needle.

Insert the needle alternately between the upper and lower parts and withdraw from the next loop lying on the needle. After that, the thread is not tightened very tightly.

The loops on the knitting needle and the seam form a new row on the knitted fabric.

On the parts connected with the seamy satin stitch, the loops are sewn, bringing the needle out with a movement not from the bottom (from the wrong side) up (to the front side), but from above (from the front side) down (to the wrong side) and vice versa.

b) along open loops of the longitudinal and along the edges of the transverse web of parts

:

Details are sewn from right to left on the front side with a horizontal knitted seam, inserting the needle into the open loops of one fabric and capturing the arcs of the loops located next to the edge ones of the other fabric.
Such a connection is used, for example, when sewing sleeves into armholes.

v) on closed edge loops

Place the parts facing each other face up and fasten them. Sew the seam by pulling the thread evenly to keep the knit stitches at the same height at the seam.

2. Vertical knitted seam (aka "mattress seam")

Serves for joining knitted pieces along the edges of the fabric. performed on the front side of the work, which makes it possible to perfectly combine the patterns. The edges do not need to be creased or cleaved before stitching the parts.

Purl: Always pick up one cross thread on each side! Tighten the thread tighter; a winding line is formed on the canvas, well disguised in the purl loops:

3. For joining knitted parts, a manual seam "line" is also used (aka "back needle")

4. A short crochet hook is also used to sew parts together.

Not many beginner knitters know how to properly sew knitted parts of any product. In order for the thing to have a neat and presentable look, and most importantly, it looks perfect on the figure, it is necessary to be able to perform a suitable knitted seam, observing a strict sequence of actions. We will talk about all this in this article and consider the most common techniques for stitching different parts from photos and videos.

Before starting work, you must prepare all materials. Of course, we need a thread with which various elements will be sewn. You also need a thick needle with a wide eye, knitting needles, a hook. Often, the product is sewn with the same thread that was knitted, or similar in color. The main condition is high yarn strength.

Mattress seam

Front surface

The mattress seam is suitable for those craftswomen who want the entire connection to be invisible during the vertical seam. This option is what you need. To complete it, you need to take a thread, even sewing will do. The connection must take place from the front of the part. Connect the edge loops with a grip on both sides.

On the side of the front surface, insert a needle and thread from the very beginning of the part, between the 1st and 2nd loops of one element, and then do the same on the other part. Sew until the very end. To make the seamy surface, it is necessary again on the faces. side to insert the needle into the buttonholes. Grab part of the link on one side, and the bottom part on the other. Everything should be sewn to the very end.

Purl surface

To ensure that the mattress seam is not noticeable when sewing the seamy surface, pick up only one transverse thread on each side.

Patent knitting

Patent-knit mattress seam: knit one purl on the front side. loop.

Jagged edges

The principle of stitching a scalloped edge with a mattress seam is to create a denticle one after the other, like a “zipper”.

Loop to loop

Knitted seam in sewing products

Such a seam is used to connect parts that were knitted in one direction. Place the elements right side up, joining the edges together. Then slide the threaded needle under the next buttonhole on the opposite side. Now you need to sew and you will have a horizontal knitted seam.

Another variation of this seam, the so-called "loop to loop". It is necessary if you need to attach knitted parts in the hosiery technique. You need to sew the open links of the two canvases. The yarn used is the same as when knitting. Thread the needle through the first buttonhole from the wrong side, starting at the top. Draw in the initial loop of the bottom and also lead along the bottom through the next st. Then thread the thread from the face of the top into the first st and lead through the second. Then pass the main tool into the next link of the lower part from the face, into the third loop along the bottom of the wrong side. Continue stapling in the same way as above. It is necessary to try to ensure that the loops of the knitted seam are as identical as possible with the links of the fabric itself.

The connection of the parts knitted with the front satin stitch is shown in Fig. 2, respectively, purl stitch - in Fig. 3.

Loop seam

This is the next way to connect parts. Execution takes place on the seamy side of the canvas. The work will need an auxiliary knitting needle. Thread it in the first person. n. on the upper instrument, and then in the first out. p. on the bottom. Then remove the same two buttonholes. Now pull the second stitch through the first. Repeat such manipulations until the moment, until you manage to connect everything to the end.

Turn the canvas over and remove 2 sts. Pull the second through the first. Again, remove 2 sts and stretch the 2nd through the 1st. At the end of the work, you need to secure the remaining link.

Connecting parts vertically and horizontally

This type of seam for joining parts is used if it is necessary to sew the sleeves to the shoulder bevel. If in your case there are much more rows than buttonholes, while sewing on the sleeve, sometimes you need to grab 2 broaches between the links of the edge part of one element and 1 loop of the other.

Knitted parts are connected as follows: pass the needle under the loop of the vertical fabric in the closed strip and bring it under the broach between the 1st and 2nd buttonholes on the horizontal fabric.

At the last stage of her work, every knitter is necessarily faced with the task of sewing parts of a knitted thing. This very important stage of needlework, because the appearance of the finished product will depend on it. There are several methods for joining parts. We will talk about them further.

How best to do it, what are the techniques

There are many or crocheted. But the technique of stitching finished knitted products is much less. Nevertheless, among them the following can be distinguished:

  • stitching with a needle;
  • crochet stitching;
  • stitching with knitting needles.

Descriptions of different techniques

What seam to sew knitted parts with is an individual matter. Nevertheless, in some cases there are certain recommendations for choosing a stitching technique. For example, it is convenient to sew hats with a needle with a weaving seam, and sleeves with a mattress seam. In general, a needle or a hook is used for stitching, in rare cases, knitting needles.

How best to sew knitted parts together with a needle

Loop-to-loop seam on open loops

The schemes often offer just such a method for stitching knitted parts. To do this, you need to connect the parts of your product in such a way that the left loops are butt butt. Next, insert the needle into the first loop of the lower part, and then into the corresponding upper one and bring it into the next loop. Now insert the needle into the previous buttonhole of the lower part and bring it into the next buttonhole.

Loop-to-loop seam on closed loops

If you want to join closed edges, for example, during, this seam would be a suitable option for this:

Mattress seam

This technology is often used to join sleeve seams or side seams. The back and in front of the knitted garment should be laid with the outer side up and parallel to each other. With a needle, grab the broach between the first loop and the hem, pull the thread. On the adjacent side, grab the broach lying opposite between the first and the edge loops, then pull the thread. Repeat these steps in turn: once on one side and then on the other.

  • After about 2-2.5 cm, pull the working thread so that both products connect to each other without a visible transition.

Weaving stitch

Weaving stitches often sew knitted parts of children's clothing, hats, mittens... Insert the needle under the hem tabs. And thus you need to pass the needle into the middle of each loop, which goes further. The stitches are somewhat reminiscent of a snake crawling forward. When sewing the seam, observe the golden mean: do not make it too tight or too loose.

How to crochet knitted pieces together

It turns out neatly enough to sew knitted things with a crochet. Experienced needlewomen the seam comes out like a machine. To achieve this quality, take the following steps:

  • Fold two knitted items together - facing each other with the outside.
  • Insert the hook into the first opening between the eyelets.
  • Make a loop of thread by grabbing the two pieces of the item to be sewn.
  • Then again you need to insert the hook, but already in the next opening and then pull out the loop.
  • Make one of the two resulting loops.
  • Insert the crochet hook into the next row of eyelets on the two pieces and then pull out a new buttonhole.
  • Connect the two resulting loops again with one. Continue doing this until you have completely connected both parts of the item to be sewn.

—Knitting for women — is a useful type of needlework and a good way to relax, abstract from the outside fuss. But for the result to be perfect, you need to have skills in working not only with knitting needles, but also crocheting. After all, it is with the help of the last tool that it is often necessary to connect parts of a knitted product. For information on how to do this, see the provided video tutorial.

We sew knitted parts with an invisible seam

Sometimes you need to sew knitwear in such a way that it is invisible. How to do this, see below.

How to sew knitted parts with knitting needles

In this lesson, you will learn how to properly sew knitted details with knitting needles. Despite the fact that this technique is less popular, in comparison with stitching with a needle or crochet, it is still not difficult to perform, and the result looks very nice and neat, as the heroine of this video will demonstrate to you.

Lovely needlewomen! Share your knit stitching secrets. Ask questions.

Part in the manufacture of knitted products, the most important question arises: how to neatly connect all the parts without visible seams. This is a problem for many, even for experienced craftswomen. When all the details of the future product are ready, you need to connect them imperceptibly and efficiently. A regular seam will not work for this. It is too rough and noticeable, especially on small items. For such purposes, there are special, almost invisible seams that do not spoil the future knitted product, but only decorate it.

This master class "Knitting: how to sew parts" will teach you unique seams that will be useful to any craftswoman. It is not at all difficult to master such seams, because the lesson shows in detail exactly how they should be done.

It often happens that in a product it is necessary to connect two parts of the product, connected by garter stitching. It is necessary to connect them end-to-end and as imperceptibly as possible, because any seam will quickly ruin the appearance of the thing.

Video lesson "Knitting: how to sew details"

Here are some tips on how to neatly and discreetly connect two connected parts:

  1. In order for the seam to be invisible, each part of the product should be finished with several rows of auxiliary thread.
  2. On one of the stitched parts, the last row must be tied on the front side, and the second on the wrong side.
  3. Before stitching, both parts of the future product should be steamed. This should be done only in the area of two or three rows, connected with the main thread and in the area of the rows connected with an auxiliary thread.
  4. When steaming, the weight of the iron should remain in your hand.
  5. Then the rows, connected with an auxiliary thread, must be carefully dissolved.
  6. We fold the stitched parts end-to-end to each other.
  7. Connecting the two parts, in the lower part you need to reproduce one row with the front satin stitch, and in the upper part - one purl groove.
  8. The seam is best done with a horizontal knit seam.
  9. The seam should be made with the thread of the same color as the product itself.

In this way, you can quickly and easily, and most importantly, completely imperceptibly, sew two knitted parts.

With a cruciform set, you can not only start the product, but also finish it. For this there is a special seam with a seam, which looks exactly the same as a cruciform set. Such a seam will decorate the product, add symmetry and accuracy to it. You can do it in a few simple steps, which are shown in this video tutorial.

These little tricks will help beginners and experienced craftswomen in knitting, make their products more beautiful and neat. Good luck!
