As for brunettes, on the contrary, they need to choose an eyebrow shade 1-2 tones lighter - in accordance with hair color and skin tone. This editorial test confused me, since I ignore any eyebrow products, never visit brow bars, do not tattoo my eyebrows, do not dye them or even pluck them. I was attracted by the unusual format of the product: this is not a classic pencil that needs to be sharpened, but a mechanical one, with a retractable flat lead with a thin tip that allows you to draw thick and thin lines, ensuring accurate application. The pencil is soft, you do not need to press on it, the color is even, and the special formula prevents the product from spreading: it is quite difficult to even wash it off the first time. The only "but" - the first time, due to lack of experience, I overdid it a little with color. Later, I learned to highlight the brows with light strokes instead of trying to draw a line that creates the effect of "drawn" brows. A spiral brush on the opposite end of the pencil allows you to blend the color and shape the brows perfectly. By the way, I tried the whole assortment of four beautiful shades (Soft Brown - light brown; Stromboli - volcano; Chestnut - chestnut; Mocha - mocha), and amazingly - each one suited me! Depending on the selected shade, I adjust the intensity of the application and get a variety of options, from natural to bright.

Although my eyebrows are naturally okay - both with the color and with the shape - I always have an eyebrow pencil in my cosmetic bag in order to give them a very perfect look. For the test, I deliberately chose the two most different options - the dark Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil and the light (ash) Yves Rocher Couleurs Nature Eyebrow Pencil with brush - to test the products in comparison.

Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil

This creamy, blendable pencil gives a firm, soft line. Eyebrows instantly become more expressive and well-groomed thanks to the correctly chosen shade (I took it darker). The Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil is easy to use, color-release and natural looking by combining powder coating with precision (included with a sharpener helps keep the pencil sharp). Adjusting the brightness is also easy: with minimal pressure, you can achieve a natural effect or add graphics. With a pencil, you can emphasize your own shape, or you can draw a new one, in addition, the pencil captures capricious hairs - not much, but quite enough. By the evening, the eyebrow slightly loses color. In general, a worthy thing from a respected cosmetic brand, which can quickly and beautifully shape eyebrows, but with a slight drawback: it is problematic for them to draw very thin elements, since it gives a slightly floating line.

This pencil looked lighter (in shade 02 "ash"), which did not bother me at all. I'm sure it is more suitable for blondes, on the other hand, my eyebrows require a very gentle correction - due to their natural brightness and clarity of shape. This pencil is of medium length, so it is convenient to hold in hand and store in a cosmetic bag. It has a transparent protective cap, and on the other end there is a convenient brush with which you can comb your eyebrows and remove excess if you suddenly overdo it. The color is universal, brownish-ash, but it changes somewhat depending on the lighting: in bright light it is warmer and darker, in low light it is colder and ashy. The pencil is quite firm, while it gives off color well, you don't have to strain your hand. As for durability, the paint can easily last the whole working day (if not touched by hands). Overall, I liked it, I'll buy more when it's over; a very decent choice for a practical price, I recommend it.

One of the most important components of my makeup is shaping the brows. Mandatory morning pencil drawing allows you to balance facial features and give your eyes expressiveness in a matter of seconds. Despite regularly working on my eyebrows, I have never used anything other than a pencil, so testing with other tools allowed me to look at my daily routine in a new way. But first things first.

Ciel brow stylist

The first thing I tried out was Ciel's Brow Stylist Modeling Mascara. Color mascara with a light gel texture is designed to give a natural shade to the eyebrows and fix their shape. Immediately, I would put a huge plus for the most convenient brush, similar in shape to mascara, but having at the same time a fundamental difference - uneven bristles. With a long nap on one side of the brush, you can fix the hairs to create a thin and graceful shape of the eyebrows, and with a short nap, paint over the skin under the hairs to give the eyebrows a fashionable width. Perhaps it turned out to be my skill, or rather, my inability, but after several attempts I did not manage to draw clear and correct eyebrows with ink. In addition, the declared light brown color of the mascara turned out to be a deep dark shade. In general, I decided to use the product for fixing the shape in combination with the pencil I was used to.

The second tool that I got for the test turned out not to be a separate product, but a whole set for eyebrow care - Le Sourcil De Chanel Perfect Brows from Chanel. It includes three shades of eyeshadow to achieve the perfect natural eyebrow color, and three special accessories - a brush with a beveled bristle brush, a comb brush and tweezers that allow you to grab the shortest hairs. However, you still need to get used to it: the accessory is frankly small, but the ability to manage it is a matter of habit. Cream eyeshadow in shade 20 brun gives the brows a soft but deep color, which turned out to be a little unusual for me after using a "concrete" pencil. Delicate shades are perfect for both blondes and brunettes, so I can safely recommend this palette to anyone who gives eyebrow makeup the same meaning as I do.

Both daytime and evening makeup require beautiful and well-groomed eyebrows. Today, beauty brands offer a lot of tools for every taste, with the help of which you can give the desired shape to the eyebrows and make them more expressive. So, having pretty much experimented with various shadows, mascaras, gels and other means for eyebrows, I opted for good old pencils. I have a lot of them in my beauty arsenal, and each one performs under a certain make-up.

For the editorial test, I got the chance to try Givenchy's best-selling eyebrow pencil Eyebrow Show. And after the very first use, it firmly established itself in the top three pencils in my personal rating. Thanks to the creamy texture, which turns into a light powder when applied, the eyebrow tone is soft and natural, like after using eyeshadow. And for best results, you can use the brush on the other end of the pencil. It will help separate the hairs and shape the eyebrows. What else is there to add? An excellent honest product in a convenient format!

As the owner of some of the most expressionless eyebrows in the editorial office, I got three correction tools at once: two gels with a brush - Yves Saint Laurent and Urban Decay, as well as a Make Up For Ever tube. I'll tell you about all three in order.

The manufacturer promises that due to the gel fixtures and translucent pigments, the product will reliably hold each hair and independently adjust to the desired eyebrow color. With fixation, everything is really at the highest level, but there are a number of questions to the second point. I often focus on the eyebrows, darkening their color a lot. YSL gel copes with this task, but immediately contradicts the theory that the gel will allow you to achieve a color that is as close to natural as possible. As a result, both of my eyebrows were firmly set and dyed an honest dark brown that doesn't wear off or peel off throughout the day.

Urban Decay produces brow gels in five color variations, making it easy to choose the perfect shade. I got a gray-brown, as close as possible to my natural eyebrow color. Unlike the previous candidate, this pencil has a short, tapered brush that looks like an mascara brush. This complicates the application of the gel a little: it strives to paint the area under the eyebrow, and at the same time far above it. Nevertheless, for the everyday make-up of the "eyebrow tamer" the product is perfect: the eyebrows look well-groomed, smoothed and firmly fixed. In addition, the formula of the gel does not contain parabens - for this product is a separate plus.


The last product on my list, the Make Up For Ever eyebrow concealer, confused me with the complexity of the format. The texture looks more like a concealer or tint. To understand how to create the perfect eyebrows with it, I had to turn to tutorials on Youtube. It turned out that fear has big eyes. The set with a tube of concealer comes with four brushes that make the process of eyebrow makeup a simple matter even for make-up neophytes like me: two mini brushes for visual correction, a beveled one for coloring, and a brush for combing and styling. As a result, the process, although it takes a long time, is worth it: with a certain skill, there is a chance to get perfectly dyed eyebrows that are not afraid of rain, snow or swimming in the sea.

I have graphic, wide, bushy eyebrows - they say this is fashionable this season. Needless to say, eyebrow shaping is optional for me. I can use a pencil or eyebrow shadow for one purpose - to correct the asymmetry of the contour. In this regard, the main problem is the choice of a suitable shade: not too dark (for those who have dark eyebrows, do not dye them black), not too light and not too brown (it often gives off red). So let's get down to the test.

I tested Sisley Phyto-Sourcils Perfect, brun. It suited me perfectly: not too bright and without a reddish undertone, it will not be dark even for brown-haired women. The lead is so soft that on the first stroke I decided to re-read the writing on the pencil to make sure it was for the eyebrows, not the eyes. It turned out to be not very convenient to draw a clear outline with such a stylus, but it is shaded very easily (you can paint over the space between the hairs). I liked the brush on the back of the pencil less: it looks like a comb with sparse teeth. It is much easier to shape the eyebrows with an ordinary fluffy "brush", like in mascara brushes. In short, a five with a minus for a pencil - and a minus for a brush.


To be honest, I never liked my eyebrows - two completely straight lines without a hint of any shape, which I had to model on my own since the age of 13. Needless to say that during all this time, in addition to the traditional tweezers, all kinds of pencils and brow-liners have become my faithful assistants. That is why I was especially excited to take on a new editorial assignment, choosing two completely opposite products for testing.

The first is the L "Oreal Paris Brow Artist Professional Kit, a small, compact box with two universal shades from the Medium to Dark palette for dark brows. Without leaving the mirror, I tried the second product - Make Up For Ever Crayon Sourcils eyebrow pencil in a taupe shade. It took one single stroke to realize that I had gone too far with the color. The pencil leaves a very intense color that is not easy to wash off with a makeup remover the first time. A significant disadvantage is the lack of a brush for shading. However, I compensated for it using the applicator from the first set. As a result, my face was completely transformed: two beautifully defined arcs made my face more expressive. It seems that the new tandem of pencil and shadow for eyebrow design will take root well in my cosmetic bag.

How to use. Now in fashion wide eyebrows with a fairly clear outline closer to the tail and with feathering closer to the bridge of the nose, smoothly tapering off at the head. With a sharp pencil, draw lines along the upper and lower edges of the eyebrows, connecting them on the ponytail. Fill the outline with thin lines along the eyebrow hairs. We shade thoroughly, paying special attention to the head of the eyebrow. To make the contour clearer, we emphasize it with a light pencil or a corrector from the bottom and top of the eyebrow borders.

Dignity. Even without the 'waterproof' tag, the brow pencil lasts great throughout the day. With him, rain is not terrible, and even after swimming in the river, he will not spread over the entire face, unless the outline ceases to be so clear. It can be purchased at any beauty store. The prices for eyebrow pencils vary from less than 100 rubles to a completely undefined amount, depending on the brand. However, I did not notice the difference in using expensive and cheap pencils.

Flaws. Not all of us can draw. With a pencil, you can do both better and ruin everything if you overdo it. In addition, the drawn eyebrows are still visible at close range.

Powder (shadows, dry lipstick) for eyebrows. A fairly common make-up item, especially among those who like to use makeup brushes.

How to choose. First of all - by color. Just like a pencil. But it is worth remembering that, unlike a hard pencil, shadows can go softer, denser, and therefore brighter. The color should be neutral. If you choose not from special eyebrow products, namely from eye shadow, take a closer look at the matte shades of beige palette, which are used for smokey ice.

How to use. You will need an angled brush that is thin and stiff enough. With powder or shadows, you can either create a clear shape (just like with a pencil), or slightly shade, create a blurred background that will look less expressive, but more natural.

Dignity. More shades than eyebrow pencils. If, for example, you have red hair, and you want the same red eyebrows, then in the palette of pencils you will not find anything but brown, but in the shadows the color palette is practically unlimited. Firmness is also often pleasing, in the hairs of the eyebrows shadows hold much better than on a wet and mobile eyelid.

Flaws. Brush application. If you threw shadows into the cosmetic bag, but did not take a brush, then you will not be able to correct the eyebrow makeup somewhere other than at home. In addition, shadow application, although simpler, does not look very good on rare thin eyebrows (like mine).

Eyebrow mascara. This is a relatively new tool. Until recently, some girls used ordinary mascara for this purpose, which looked bulky and unnatural. Now cosmetics manufacturers offer a lot of options for mascara specifically for eyebrows, suitable shades, with a convenient brush.

How to choose. For price, durability and, of course, color. Similar products are available both in luxury brands and in the mass market.

How to use. Apply on the eyebrows with a brush in the direction of hair growth, like ordinary mascara. In this case, one part of the product colors the eyebrow hairs, while the other falls on the skin, creating a light shadow.

Dignity. Mascara dyes the hairs, and even if they differ in color from what you want to dye your eyebrows, there will be no noticeable difference between your own and drawn. Another huge plus of this tool is that it replaces the eyebrow gel. After application, the mascara dries out for a few minutes and fixes the hairs. This is ideal for those whose eyebrows do not grow neatly side by side, but stick out in different directions (like mine).

Flaws. You will not achieve a clear outline with eyebrow mascara, especially if your eyebrows are thin and sparse, like mine, and there is not much to dye in them. In addition, it is still mascara, and if water gets on it, it can flow. She will withstand a little rain, but you should not swim in the river or the sea with her. Another drawback is that not all cosmetic brands have such a product. Therefore, you will have to spend time looking for it, if you already decided to use mascara for eyebrows.

Eyebrow marker. Remember how in childhood you drew on yourself with a felt-tip pen? I don't know about you, but I painted. So, now this is a trend, and cosmetic companies are vying with each other to release eyebrow markers.

Dignity. The brush is very convenient for dyeing between the hairs of the eyebrow and for bringing out a clear outline. No sharpening required. Such a marker is enough for a long time.

Flaws. Contrary to expectations, an eyebrow highlighter cannot be called super-resistant. If you do not touch your eyebrows, it will last all day, but the skin constantly secretes fat, and by the end of the day it is enough just to run your finger along the eyebrows to make the contour "float". It will not be completely erased, but there will be no clarity.
