We clean blinds made of various materials from dirt. How to quickly wash blinds at home, the best folk and chemical remedies How to wash blinds at home

Horizontal blinds are a spectacular comfortable curtain consisting of many plates (lamellas) located parallel to each other. Blinds are especially loved for the mechanism that allows both to ensure the penetration of light into the room, and to completely block it. Plastic blinds are an inexpensive and beautiful decor option for an apartment, home and office. Today it is easy to purchase plastic curtains of any color and choose the option that suits the most sophisticated interior.

Some difficulties in operation arise when it is necessary to clean horizontal blinds. After all, dust settles on each lamella (especially in light transmission mode). If the structure is used in the kitchen, dirt from grease, carbon deposits mixed with dust and dirt forms on the lamellas. For regular cleaning of blinds from simple dust, a vacuum cleaner or fanning with a dust brush is enough. But when stubborn dirt forms, it becomes necessary to thoroughly rinse the plastic curtains.

How to clean horizontal plastic blinds without removing from the window

So that the structure has to be washed as rarely as possible, they carry out regular preventive cleaning of dust with a vacuum cleaner or a special dust broom:

  • to remove dust with a vacuum cleaner, use a small nozzle and a low suction speed (so as not to damage the lamellas);
  • fluffy duster is designed to brush away dust from furniture and interior items.

If the contamination of the lamellas is not significant (or it is not possible to dismantle them), the blinds are cleaned without removing from the window:

  • before washing the structure, dry cleaning is carried out (with a vacuum cleaner or a whisk);
  • then each lamella is wiped with wet wipes, gripping the "round" plate, immediately from above and below (napkins are recommended to be used for furniture and interior cleaning of cars, they are immediately impregnated with antistatic and polishing agents)
  • instead of a damp cloth, you can use an ordinary clean rag (seasoned housewives advise using old gloves or socks), a liquid or foamy detergent for cleaning the house in a spray bottle (for washing glass, furniture);
  • shops sell special brushes for wet cleaning of horizontal blinds; the design consists of several separate fabric (or fur) brush rollers, which simultaneously capture several lamellas (from 2 to 7); after use, the brush is washed from dirt.

If necessary, wet cleaning of the plastic curtain is carried out several times. Hooks and fasteners are wiped separately.

How to dismantle a structure and hang it back

Sometimes light dry or wet cleaning is not enough for high-quality cleaning of the blinds and they must be dismantled for a more serious procedure. For example, the blinds were not washed for too long, they were covered with an impressive layer of dirt. Horizontal curtains located on kitchen windows, over time, together with dust, accumulate grease stains, soot, and these contaminants are particularly persistent and cannot be wiped off with a simple damp cloth.

It is important to properly dismantle and hang back horizontal plastic blinds so as not to damage their mechanism:

  • Place the lamellas in the "closed" position.
  • If the top panel (fastening) is covered with a decorative element, carefully remove it.
  • On the upper bar there are latches (or clips) that fix the curtains themselves on it, you need to open them.
  • Remove the curtain from the strip.
  • Wash in the chosen way.
  • Put dry, clean blinds back on the fastenings of the upper strip.
  • Close the clips (or tighten the clips).
  • Reinstall the decorative element, if any.

Usually, horizontal blinds can be removed and installed back easily, just once, without rushing to figure out the scheme of their attachment.

Deep cleaning methods

When the structure is removed from the window, deep cleaning of the horizontal slats can be carried out. Modern blinds are made of high quality plastic that easily transfers any detergent. However, it is still worth clarifying the possible "contraindications" from the manufacturer.

Note! After wet cleaning, metal structural elements (fasteners, clamps) must be treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

Soaking wash

If the size of the blinds allows, the curtain is soaked in the bathroom:

  • for soaking, water of medium temperature (about 50 degrees) is poured into the bath;
  • almost any liquid detergent will do (for washing dishes, detergent for hand or machine wash);
  • the detergent is diluted in water, beat the foam with your hands;
  • the blinds are carefully immersed in water;
  • the soaking time depends on the degree of dirt, for example, it will take several hours to remove kitchen grease;
  • after that, the blinds are washed with a large amount of running warm water using a shower;
  • if contamination remains, the procedure is repeated;
  • when the curtain is completely cleaned, the water is allowed to drain;
  • the lamellas are wiped dry;
  • the structure is mounted back to a window or wall.

Install, soak and wash plastic blinds very carefully. Lamellas should not be crumpled, twisted, bent - this may cause cracks or creases on them.

Particularly stubborn dirt on plastic is treated with kitchen agents to clean old fat. To do this, the product is simply applied to oily spots, as indicated on the bottle. Work is carried out with gloves, such chemicals contain chlorine, caustic soda, alkali, which, upon contact, will damage the skin of the hands.

Go to the address and read about how to hang a painting on the wall without drilling using materials at hand.

Washing under the shower

If it is possible to tightly fix the blinds directly above the bathroom or in the shower, and there is no serious dirt on the slats, you can wash with a shower:

  • fix the curtain over the bathroom or in the shower;
  • turn on the shower. A weak pressure of warm water is required, which does not deform the lamellas;
  • the entire curtain is thoroughly poured with water from top to bottom;
  • apply liquid or foamy detergent to the lamellas, the easiest way is with a spray bottle;
  • leave to influence the product for 15-20 minutes;
  • rinse with warm water several times;
  • if necessary, repeat the processing;
  • Leave clean blinds until the water completely drains off.

The final stage of work is the same as when washing blinds with soaking. When the water is completely drained from the structures, they are wiped dry, assembled in place, and the plates are covered with polish and antistatic agent.

Washing horizontal plastic blinds is not difficult. But often it is not recommended to remove the plastic curtain, so as not to damage the structure and lamellas during installation and "water procedures". The optimal solution is a preventive weekly cleaning that does not require removal of the structure. Then the "general" washing of plastic curtains will be enough to carry out 1-2 times a year.

Blinds are a great option for a home or office. It is always possible to close them in sunny weather and open them on a cloudy day, letting in a sufficient amount of light into the room. Over time, they become covered with dust (and also grease in the kitchen), fade and lose their original appearance. Dust can be simply brushed off, but to remove stubborn stains, follow the tips and tricks on how to clean your vertical blinds at home.

How not to wash vertical blinds

It is important to consider the material from which the strips are made so as not to spoil them. There are several rules and it is advisable to familiarize yourself with them before you clean the blinds yourself:

Important! In no case should you bend the blinds during washing. Creases will remain on them that cannot be removed on their own. It is forbidden to iron the products, it is necessary to clean and dry them so that wrinkles do not appear. However, there is a little secret that allows you to return a presentable look to fabric stripes, but more on that later.

Wet cleaning vertical fabric blinds

The lack of a steam generator or the ability to dry-clean the blinds is not a reason for refusing to wash. You can clean the products at home without using any equipment. All manufacturers warn that it is strictly prohibited to wet them. Many housewives successfully wash blinds, despite this rule. The following tips will tell you how best to wash your blinds at home:

With the right approach, the strips do not wrinkle and are well washed the first time. In cases where a stain remover is used, move a sponge or soft brush only in the direction of the thread, applying little effort. You can't iron the blinds, but a little trick will help. You can walk with steam from an iron or a steam generator at a low temperature from a distance of 10-15 cm.

Cleaning blinds with a steam generator

Professionals know how to clean vertical blinds from dirt and dust without water. With the help of a steam generator, it will be possible to quickly restore the original appearance of the products without removing them from the eaves. It is not necessary to buy equipment, some companies provide a steam generator for rent at a low cost.

Cleaning begins from the very top of the blinds, not forgetting about the fittings and cornice. Each strip is treated with steam, lightly pressing on a special brush. Even old stains are removed after the first time, but sometimes you have to walk over the dirt several times. In rare cases, steam softened dirt flows down, so you need to additionally use a damp cloth.

Note! Hot steam negatively affects the impregnation; this method should be resorted to in extreme cases. For example, when there are streaks or greasy stains that are difficult to clean on your own. If there is a fear of spoiling the lamellas, it is recommended to entrust the matter to a professional. He will correctly select the temperature regime and carefully carry out the processing, without leaving a single spot.

Household chemicals for washing vertical fabric blinds

As already mentioned, you cannot wash vertical fabric blinds with ordinary powder. Small granules can remain in the material and cause streaking or lightening of the material. You also need to forget about harsh bleaches. It is not recommended to use various sprays that contain wax. Such substances give a temporary effect, but after a few days dust settles on the wax.

Preference is given to liquid detergents for washing clothes or detergents for washing dishes - they are quickly washed off with water and do not leave streaks. You can use substances for cleaning carpets or upholstered furniture. Experienced housewives sometimes choose an ordinary powder, but first dissolve it in warm water and wash strips of fabric with the resulting solution.

Every housewife should know how to clean fabric blinds from stains. It is possible to remove contamination with wet, alcohol-based wipes. However, you do not need to rub the dirt too hard - you need to move from the center to the edges of the speck, pressing lightly.

Blinds are a good alternative to the usual curtains, but they cannot be washed quickly in a typewriter. Products require careful care; they are advised to wash them no more than several times a year. The rest of the time, the lamellas are cleaned with a damp cloth.

If earlier blinds were used only in offices, then thanks to the variety of types and materials, they have become a real decoration of any living space. However, over time, dust, traces of grease, yellow spots appear on them. Various methods can be used to remove dirt from blinds, depending on the material, type, and degree of contamination.

Regardless of the design and material, any blinds get dirty over time and need high-quality care. However, how they are washed will depend on the materials used.

Important! If the blinds are treated with a special impregnation, it is necessary to take care of them so as not to damage the protective layer.

General tips for caring for your blinds:

  1. Choose your detergent carefully. When choosing it, take into account the material from which the blinds are made. When in doubt, it is best to use dish soap or liquid soap.
  2. Regularity is the key to cleanliness. Tough stains and thick layers of grease are difficult to remove. Therefore, it is better to regularly shake off dust from them and carry out wet cleaning.
  3. Antistatic treatment. A great way to get rid of the need to wash the blinds often is to treat them with an antistatic agent after washing. So much dust and dirt will not sit on them, so cleaning can be done less often.
  4. Wash from top to bottom. Wash the blinds correctly from top to bottom. So on the lower lamellas there will be no drips from dirt and detergents.
  5. The wood cannot be washed with water. To do this, it is better to use a special cleaning agent and a soft cloth.
  6. Professional dry cleaning. If you have doubts about the modern forces, it is better to entrust the cleaning of blinds to professionals. And some types of structures, for example, products with photo printing, are simply prohibited from washing at home.

To clean the blinds at home, you must strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the structure of the blinds and slats.

How to remove blinds for washing

With a small amount of dirt and dust, you can clean the blinds without removing them. However, serious pollution requires general cleaning. And the method of removing the blinds will depend on the type of construction used.

Vertical

Removing vertical blinds is easier if you first understand their design. The lamellas are hung on the cornice, and there are plugs on the sides. If you need to remove vertical blinds for washing, you should adhere to the following procedure:

  1. Open the blinds fully to avoid damaging them when removing.
  2. Collect the sipes together using the control rope.
  3. There is a chain on the weights, which must also be removed by gently grasping the locks with your fingers.
  4. Remove the plastic parts from the lamellas.
  5. Remove the slats that are located on the runners of the cornice.
  6. Find the longest part that belongs to the slider clip by grasping it with your fingers. Move this area slowly and carefully.
  7. When the shoulder of the lamella comes out of the grip, the part can be easily removed, after which the shoulder must be carefully put in place.
  8. Repeat these manipulations for all elements.

Removing vertical blinds most often does not cause difficulties, but if problems arise, it is better to order them to be cleaned by professionals. This will ensure high quality cleaning and no risk of damage to the plastic surface.

Horizontal

In case of improper dismantling, horizontal blinds can be damaged by breaking the lamellas or damaging the box structure. Before removing the structure, it is necessary to wipe the lamellas with a soft cloth to remove dust. To dismantle the structure, you must prepare a screwdriver, and when re-installing, you may need spare screws and bolts.

The dismantling process is quite simple, the main thing is to perform all actions slowly and carefully. Carrying out the work requires preliminary closing of the window. The main stages of dismantling:

  1. Removing the box if the blinds have a decorative cover. To remove the mount, you must pry them with a screwdriver.
  2. Raise the slats by supporting them with your hand.
  3. Find the clips on the bracket, which are usually tabs on the edges, pull them towards you and remove them from the mount. At this stage, it is better to do the work together: one bends the tabs of the fasteners, and the second holds the lamellas.

If you have problems with bending the clips, you can remove the blinds together with the mounts. However, it is prohibited to wash together with the blinds. It is important to carry out all work carefully and carefully so as not to damage the structure.

Roll

Roller blinds are washable, so it is best to clean them when they are removed. This will require:

  1. Roll the curtains into a tight roll.
  2. If a guide line is present, detach it.
  3. Remove the weight caps.
  4. Remove the protective capsule.
  5. Using a screwdriver, you need to remove the tube on which the blinds are wound.

Most models of roller blinds are easy to disassemble, so the problem of removing the blinds is rare.

Cleaning of various types of blinds

For the manufacture of blinds, both natural and synthetic materials can be used. It can be plastic, wood, textiles, metal. Depending on the design and material of the blinds, different types of maintenance are required.

Tissue

For regular maintenance of fabric blinds, it is best to use a vacuum cleaner with a special nozzle for upholstered furniture. If the fabric blinds have a high density, they can be additionally wiped with a special fabric brush.

But when heavy dirt appears, you need to remove the blinds and wash. In this case, do not wash the blinds in the washing machine. This can lead to a loss of the appearance of the lamellas. Therefore, it is better to do it manually or take it to dry cleaning. For washing, use dishwashing detergent or liquid soap. After washing, the lamellas should be thoroughly rinsed and dried.

If stains appear on the fabric slats, it is not necessary to immediately remove them in the fasteners. You can use a non-chlorine stain remover. After removing the stain, the area should be rinsed thoroughly.

Important! The fabric blinds have a protective coating that is washed off during washing. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid washing them for as long as possible.

Dry fabric slats in a horizontal position. Do not iron the fabric blinds after washing. But if they are strongly deformed, you can gently iron them at a low temperature and through cheesecloth.

Plastic

Plastic blinds are unpretentious and easy to clean. To return them a fresh and clean appearance, you must adhere to a certain sequence of actions:

  1. Dry cleaning. First, you need to remove the dust from the lamellas with a vacuum cleaner using a soft furniture brush.
  2. Wet cleaning. To make them shiny and clean, wipe them with a microfiber cloth or other soft cloth dampened with window cleaner. The wipes should be changed as they become dirty.
  3. Spring-cleaning. If the structures become very dirty with grease and dust, it is recommended to remove them and wash them in the shower or soak them in the bathroom for 30-40 minutes. After washing, the slats should be wiped thoroughly with a paper towel or clean dry cloth.
Important! Be careful when cleaning plastic blinds. On them, inaccurate handling, creases and other signs of deformation are formed on them.

The hardest part to clean is the plastic blinds that hang in the kitchen. A fatty coating appears on them, in which dust and other contaminants adhere. To wash them, it is best to use dishwashing detergent, which quickly dissolves grease and returns shine to the lamellas.

Metallic

Most often, aluminum is used for the manufacture of metal blinds, which tolerates well the effects of non-abrasive detergents and water. For regular cleaning, it is enough to vacuum the lamellas or wipe them with a soft cloth. However, in case of heavy dirt, it is recommended to remove the structure from the window.

When cleaning aluminum blinds, consider:

  • when cleaning, you need to be careful not to bend the lamellas;
  • do not use alcohol to clean white aluminum blinds;
  • until the blinds are dry, do not hang them on the window;
  • work should be done carefully so as not to cut yourself with sharp edges.

For quick cleaning of aluminum blinds, use soapy water and a soft cloth. After that, the blinds must be thoroughly rinsed and wiped dry. A great way to clean quickly is to use wet wipes. In this case, you can use both special household wet wipes and ordinary hygienic ones. You can also use a window cleaner.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are the most difficult to maintain. They require the most careful care and the use of only special products. It is forbidden to wet them, use abrasive detergents and washcloths. For high levels of dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but it must be wiped dry immediately afterwards.

Important! For regular maintenance of wooden blinds, it is best to use a plush rag and polish.

For the care of such blinds, it is best to use special preparations developed for wooden products. They must have neutral acidity, free of silicone and aggressive components. If the surface has scratches or other minor damage, you can use furniture wax to repair them.

How to clean blinds without removing from windows

For light dirt, you can quickly wash the blinds without removing them. The easiest way to do this is to use a vacuum cleaner or dry soft cloth. But if this is not enough, you can use other cleaning methods.

The easiest way to clean the blinds on the windows is to use a soap solution, after which their surface is thoroughly rinsed and wiped off. However, after that, you will have to spend a lot of time cleaning the window, window sill and even the floor from the soapy spray. Therefore, it is better to use less dirty ways:

  1. Wet wipes. They are suitable for all materials, are easy to use and do not require rinsing.
  2. Special brush. Ideal washing solution for horizontal and vertical products.
  3. Steam generator. It can be used to clean any kind of blinds except wooden ones.

When choosing the best way to wash the blinds, do not forget about the services of a professional cleaning company. In this case, you can achieve maximum results without removing the structures.

Removal of various types of contamination

Regular cleaning of blinds is usually straightforward. Problems can begin when tough stains need to be removed. Therefore, you should try to prevent their appearance. But if, through negligence, stains of coffee, fruit, juice, wine, tea, fat appear on the blinds, it is better to remove them immediately.

The easiest way to remove any stains from the blinds is to use a stationery eraser. However, do not rub it too hard so as not to damage the surface, especially if it has an ornament or colored coating.

If the leaf does not help remove the stain, you can use other methods. Chlorine bleaches and harsh stain removers should not be used. It is recommended to pay attention to natural stain removers, which are distinguished by their delicate effect. Before buying and using any product, you must carefully study the label. To play it safe, it is recommended to check the safety of the product in an inconspicuous area.

What you need to know

Before cleaning blinds, you must carefully evaluate their design and material. This will allow you to choose the best care method. Depending on these indicators, there are general recommendations for the care of blinds:

  • it is forbidden to wash any blinds in the washing machine;
  • drying should be carried out in a horizontal and flattened state;
  • ironing fabric blinds is allowed only in extreme cases at a minimum temperature and through gauze;
  • Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth such as microfiber to clean the blinds.
  • wooden blinds must not be wetted, and special wood products should be used to polish them;
  • drying should be done in a natural way without the use of a hair dryer, iron, battery and other thermal devices;
  • the blinds should be removed with particular care so as not to damage the structure and lamellas.

By adhering to simple maintenance rules, you can ensure the cleanliness and long service life of blinds of various types and materials. In order for the blinds to last as long as possible, the surfaces should be cleaned regularly. This will help to avoid the formation of stubborn tough stains. Even if the condition of the blinds is catastrophic, you should not despair. Using specialized detergents or professional dry cleaning will get rid of most of the dirt.

Blinds have long been an integral part of the interior of many homes and offices. They close windows, create shade, complement the design. To make the appearance of the room always attractive, do not forget about the windows during cleaning. They require regular cleaning because they accumulate a lot of dust and dirt.

How to clean horizontal aluminum blinds

Horizontal aluminum blinds are the most popular. Despite their simplicity, they require frequent maintenance, because a lot of dust gets clogged between the lamellas, and it turns into a dark, dense coating that is difficult to clean.

For regular washing (once a week) you will need:

  • clean water and detergent gel;
  • sponge, sock or rag glove.

First, wash each lamella with a sponge dipped in water and detergent, and then wipe dry. It is most convenient to do this with a glove or an old terry sock worn on your hand.

How to clean vertical blinds

The washing method for horizontal structures depends on the material from which they are made. Plastic products can be cleaned with many products, as long as they are not abrasive. When choosing chemistry for fabric roller shutters and blinds, you need to select powders that do not contain chlorine, otherwise they will spoil the color.

Plastic

There are several ways to clean plastic blinds:

  1. Chemicals that are available in every store. For plastic products, preparations for furniture, windows and car washing are suitable. What they have in common is that they remove all types of dirt from smooth surfaces. Before using chemistry, you need to carefully read the instructions for use and protect your hands so as not to dry out and damage the skin.
  2. Folk remedies, proven over the years. Their advantage is that they do not require large expenses, but at the same time they effectively and quickly wash away any kind of contamination. One of these: 3 tbsp. l. baking soda, 6 tbsp. l. 9% vinegar, 1 tsp. dish detergent (washing gel, shampoo or liquid soap). Pour soda into a container with a spray bottle and pour vinegar. When the reaction has passed, add a little water and liquid. Foam and use to clean plastic blinds. Apply a small amount to the lamella, leave for 5 minutes and rinse with water, and then wipe dry.

Textile

To clean blinds and fabrics, use a mild detergent or laundry detergent. Before cleaning, you should remove the alternative curtains, because they cannot be washed efficiently by weight. Then they need to be vacuumed first (it is better to use a vacuum cleaner for cars or a nozzle for upholstered furniture).

Then you need to prepare a soap solution (you can use washing powder, gel or washing soap, crushed on a grater or in a blender), into which the curtains are lowered for half an hour. If there is obvious dirt, it should be rubbed with a brush. Each strip must be washed, rinsed, and dried over the bathtub to allow the water to drain. You can hang vertical blinds when they are completely dry.

How to clean blinds without removing from windows

You can wash horizontal blinds without removing from the windows, and there are several ways to do this:

  1. Pipidaster. It is a fluffy brush made of natural material or synthetic material and is widely used for sweeping dust.
  2. Special brush for cleaning. It looks like kitchen tongs, only the head is covered with a sponge or microfiber, which quickly and effectively removes many types of dirt.
  3. Socks and gloves (one of the most comfortable ways). They need to be soaked in water and put on your hand, and then wipe the blinds hanging on the window. Do not forget about the mountings, because a lot of dust collects there too.

Wet cleaning

Plastic blinds can be washed without removing from the windows. To prevent the accumulation of dirt, it is recommended to wash the dust once a week. It is better to wash horizontal aluminum blinds with a damp method, but at the same time they must then be wiped dry to avoid the appearance of fungus or corrosion.

In addition to constant wet cleaning, it is necessary to carry out periodic cleaning, in which it is necessary to remove the blinds from the windows and soak in a container with water. You can use the bathtub to quickly clean any type of curtain. The water should be warm with some detergent added. It is not recommended to use powder, because its particles can scratch the lamellas, especially if they are made of plastic.

To clean your bathroom blinds, you first need to protect the plumbing fixture to avoid scratching it. To do this, a towel or diaper is placed on the bottom, and a structure is placed on top and filled with water.

Dry cleaning

Before cleaning the blinds without removing from the windows, you can use the dry cleaning method. This method is best used on windows in a bedroom or living room, where there is no heavy pollution, such as in the kitchen.

Dry cleaning is carried out using a vacuum cleaner and a fine nozzle. Each lamella or vertical piece must be carefully processed. In hard-to-reach places, dust is cleaned with a brush; you can use a dentist.

Steam cleaning

To clean the blinds with steam, you need a special device - a steamer or a steam mop. Sometimes they can arrange a sink in the bathroom. Products can be processed with steam without removing them from the windows. You need to start from the top. If there is strong dirt, you need to walk over them with the steamer several times. It is recommended to first remove the dust with a dry cloth or brush.

How to clean wooden slats

Wood blinds are more difficult to clean than plastic or metal blinds because they are more susceptible to chemicals. It is easier to clean metal blinds, because wood tends to absorb moisture, greasy dust, odors and other types of dirt.

First you need to remove the dust with a sponge, brush or vacuum cleaner. The second stage is cleaning. The method must be chosen individually, depending on the contamination. You can use a steam cleaner, soapy water, or furniture polish. Before use, it is important to dry the blinds completely so as not to provoke flowering.

How to clean stubborn dirt

Sometimes it is not easy to clean the blinds in the kitchen due to the accumulation of fat that cannot be wiped off like dust. To do this, you need to use cleaning products. Stubborn dirt can be washed out in the following ways:

  1. Active foam of soda and vinegar will help to quickly eliminate fungus, darkening on a light-colored product, and dust accumulation.
  2. For plastic - you can use a light solution of bleach (Whiteness), in which the blinds are soaked for 1-2 hours, after which they need to be thoroughly rinsed.
  3. Fabric slats can be washed in an automatic machine, just select the manual or daily wash mode so as not to deform the curtain.
  4. From kitchen slats, dirt can be removed with acidic agents or dishwashing gel, which contains components that dissolve fat.

It should be remembered that all items sooner or later become unusable. Blinds are no exception, they tend to wear out. If they have a lot of dirt that cannot be cleaned, it is better to purchase new curtains and replace them. Otherwise, you can waste time cleaning, but still not achieve the desired result.

  1. Metal, wood and fabric structures require weekly cleaning, even if they are not visibly soiled.
  2. Fresh dirt should be wiped off immediately, because then it is more difficult to wash it off.
  3. If mold or mildew appears, you can use vinegar, lemon juice or Whiteness.

In order not to spoil the blinds, when using a new tool, you need to try its effect on an inconspicuous area. Some of the ingredients in the formulation can corrode color or even materials.

Lightweight compact blinds have gained immense popularity. They protect the room well from the sun and prying eyes. But even if you use them carefully, the lamellas become covered with dust and dirt, and those installed in the kitchen are also covered with grease and soot. To keep them looking neat, they need to be cleaned regularly. There are many ways to clean your blinds at home. Cleaning methods depend on product design and material of manufacture.

The panels can be cleaned both on and off the window. The first method is faster and easier, but the second is more effective. But if you clean the blinds directly on the window, then you will most likely have to additionally wash the window and sill.

Metal slats

Aluminum is the most popular lamella material. You can use window or dishwashing detergents to clean aluminum blinds. Choose products that do not leave streaks. You can quickly clean horizontal blinds without removing them from the window as follows:

For major cleaning, the blinds are removed after vacuuming. The lamellas are thoroughly washed under the shower. Aluminum products are well cleaned if they are soaked in the bathroom for a while. But you cannot leave them there for a long time, as traces of rust may appear. After soaking, the surfaces are cleaned with a sponge and detergent applied. The cleaned slats are wiped off with a napkin or towel and installed on the windows.

Aluminum panels can be easily cleaned with a non-contact car care product. The active foam quickly dissolves stubborn dust and dirt. Hang the removed slats over the bathtub, treat with car shampoo on both sides and rinse with clean water. Treat dried products with an antistatic agent.

Plastic and wood

The horizontal plastic blinds can only be washed thoroughly if you remove them from the window. The fittings are removed, and the panels are washed under hot water with a sponge and detergent. Each lamella is cleaned on both sides. The blinds are thoroughly rinsed with clean water, dried, then hung on the window. If necessary, they can be cleaned right on the window in the same way as aluminum products - with a sponge or a damp cloth.

Wood panels are usually carefully finished and varnished. They must not be washed under running water - the lacquered surface could be damaged. Strongly wet wooden products can warp - the tree does not tolerate temperature extremes and hot water. Manufacturers offer to clean wooden panels with a vacuum cleaner, but this method does not always remove dirt.

Heavily dusty lamellas can be wiped with a damp cloth. Grease and insect stains are removed with furniture care products, if allowed by the manufacturers.

Cleaning methods for vertical products also depend on the material of manufacture. They are usually made from fabric, wood or polymer materials. There are general rules for cleaning vertical blinds that are used for products made of any materials:

Blinds made of jacquard fabrics or printed products cannot be cleaned by yourself - they should be taken to dry cleaning.

Fabric and polymers

Fabric blinds can be vacuum cleaned well. It is not recommended to use a brush - its bristles can damage the protective layer or the impregnation of the fabric. If the product is heavily soiled and stained, it will have to be washed. You can properly wash your blinds at home as follows:

  • the fabric is carefully removed from the guides;
  • all fittings are removed;
  • the strips are rolled up and placed in a bag for washing;
  • rolls are soaked in warm water with dissolved washing powder;
  • after an hour they are taken out and rinsed in clean water.
  • allow water to flow from the lamellas, after which they are fixed in their original place - the damp cloth will straighten under its own weight.

Fabric rolls can also be machine washed if the manufacturer allows it. Not all fabric blinds can be washed - some of them are impregnated with special compounds that repel dust. They are washed off when washed. In this case, dry cleaning products for blinds made of fabric, which are sold in stores, will help. They absorb dust and dirt well. The agent is applied to the lamellas and after a while washed off with a damp sponge.

Products made of polymeric materials are undemanding to cleaning methods. You can simply wash the vertical blinds in the washing machine by removing them from the windows and rolling them up. Washing is carried out in a gentle mode. Polymer items can also be hand washed by soaking in water, then rinsed, dried and hung in place. And you can also wash the lamellas directly on the window, for which they use a damp sponge dipped in a cleaning solution. Then they are wiped dry with a cloth.

Plastic panels cannot be rolled into rolls. They can be washed on the window, just like horizontal aluminum blinds:

  • closed panels are vacuum cleaned;
  • they are moved to the open position and the detergent is applied to both sides of the lamellas, for which it is convenient to use a spray bottle;
  • strips are cleaned with a soft sponge or cloth;
  • wipe the panels dry with an absorbent cloth without leaving streaks.

Wooden panels

When cleaning wooden blinds, follow the manufacturer's recommendations. They cannot be washed under running water; it is enough to wipe with a damp cloth. If the instructions allow, then you can use furniture polish. Bamboo blinds require special care. They also cannot be washed with water - bamboo stems crack from sudden changes in humidity. In addition, moisture-saturated bamboo swells strongly and shrinks when dry, which can cause the anchoring cords to stretch and loosen.

All fittings should be installed on the slats only after they are completely dry, otherwise rust will appear on the guides.

How to remove stains

Often, nicotine plaque remains on the snow-white lamellas. Yellowish stains can be cleaned with regular baking soda. Water is added to it and stirred to a state of gruel, then applied to the blinds. The alkali in baking soda dissolves nicotine stains.

If the nicotine plaque has eaten into the material and has acquired a brown tint, it can be washed off with a cleaner for plastic car panels. The composition is designed to remove nicotine stains. If this does not help, they use a radical method - they apply photo printing on the blinds, which masks the plaque.
