This natural breed is one of the oldest, but it was officially recognized only in 1971. Vans appeared in ancient times on the territory of modern Turkey, in the area of Lake Van, which gave the name to the breed.

This is a very large animal, with an elongated body, a powerful chest and a rectangular back, on strong limbs of medium length, and the front legs are larger than the hind legs. Adult individuals, depending on gender, weigh from 4 to 9 kg. Vans grow to such sizes by 3-5 years.

Van is a delicate, affectionate cat, which, however, can sometimes show temper. She is very active and even an excellent swimmer, as if water is her native element. She is also excellent at catching small fish in shallow water. She is very curious and sociable, although she usually singles out one friend in the family. Vans get along well with dogs, while remaining leaders.

Prepare the house for the arrival of a kitten and take safety measures:

  • remove all objects potentially dangerous to the curious, especially small ones;
  • close drawers, washing machines, washers and dryers, as well as narrow spaces between walls and furniture;
  • always close the kitchen;
  • put limiters or latches on randomly closing doors;
  • hide toxic and medicinal preparations;
  • securely fasten window screens;
  • houseplants that contain toxins are either completely removed from the house, or kept in inaccessible places;
Prepare your bed:
  • choose a place away from drafts;
  • prepare a house (a box or basket lined with warm bedding, or a ready-made bed from a pet store);
  • stock up on a tray, steel utensils for eating and drinking, a nail sharpener, a collar, a leash, hygiene products and toys.

The collar should have a strong clasp and an elastic section so that the animal can get out of it in an emergency, as well as a tag with your contact details.

In the first 3 weeks it is important:

  • accustom the kitten to healthy food;
  • teach how to use the tray;
  • make friends with him.
If the adaptation goes without stress, proceed with the vaccination according to the following scheme:
  • the first vaccination - not earlier than the 2nd and not later than the 3rd month;
  • the second vaccination - 3 weeks after the first;
  • regular annual vaccinations throughout life.

However, the decisive word in this matter is with the veterinarian.

Care

Care for long-haired cats should be especially thorough.

To keep the fur healthy, they need:

  • a whole set of special combs with different lengths and frequency of teeth;
  • a set of conditioners, balms and antistatic agents for wool.
They need to be combed out several times a week, and during molting - daily; otherwise they, licking themselves on their own, can swallow wool and clog the intestines.

If you do not follow the tangles on the stomach: do not cut them, if it is no longer possible to comb them, then they will cause pain to the animal, and you will have to contact a veterinarian or a groomer.

To maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract, fluffy cats require special food that allows you to remove hair from the intestines. For these purposes, they should also be given germinated grass.

Your cat needs regular ear cleaning. With a cotton swab dipped in vegetable oil or a solution of boric acid, excess sulfur is removed from the auricle.

Important! It is strictly forbidden to penetrate deep into the cat's ear canal! This can only be done by a veterinarian.

Care of the muzzle consists of daily rubbing with a damp soft cloth. Otherwise, the animal will have wrinkles near the eyes, which can turn sour due to tears.

You should also regularly wash the anus with warm water, especially in short-tailed cats.

Cutting should be taught from a young age, then the cat will not resist the procedure. To do this, the foot is clamped with the thumb and forefinger, pressing lightly, until the claws are released. Only the tips are cut off, without touching the pink skin. Nail clipping frequency:

  • kittens - weekly,
  • adults - once every two weeks.
To maintain oral health, the cat should be taken to the veterinarian annually and regularly self-examined. Kittens are also encouraged to brush their teeth and gums with a finger wrapped in gauze.
Remember: by adopting a cat, you make friends with a special creature. Therefore, treat your pet with care, pay more attention to it than to yourself. After all, living at home, outside the wild, cats cannot take care of themselves.

Fluffy and naked, affectionate and wayward, fidgets and couch potatoes - all these are our favorite purring pets. There are dozens of cat breeds in the world, each with unique characteristics. If you are lucky enough to own a kitten with an impressive pedigree, it is better to know in advance how to care for him, than to feed him, and what tricks to expect.

The history of the emergence of cat breeds

Some breeds appeared by chance, others are the result of long selection work, and still others have managed to retain the appearance and habits of their wild ancestors, for which cat lovers appreciate them. So, the independent Siberian cat was known to our ancestors long after the first attempts to somehow register it, and the plush cutie British Shorthair cat once just caught mice on the streets of London.

However, this cannot be said about most breeds. For example, the Persian cat looked very different when it was first introduced to Europeans. There is nothing to say about bald breeds: to some they seem to be aliens of the cat world, their appearance is so different from the usual Murchikov and Murok. And this is only a small part of all cats: according to statistics, only 1% of the feline brethren can boast of belonging to a noble family.

Purposeful work on breeding new breeds began only a century and a half ago. Most of the thoroughbred beauties that are known to people today were registered only in the last century. However, all of them have become so firmly established in our lives that it is difficult to imagine it without their funny tricks.

Varieties of cats

Cat breeds are usually divided into long-haired, short-haired and hairless:

  1. Persian, Angora, Turkish Van, Norwegian Forest, Sacred Burmese, etc. are considered long-haired. Most are credited with an affectionate and docile character.
  2. Most in the world. This is the Siamese, and Oriental, and Abyssinian, and Russian Blue, and many others. They are so different from each other that it is difficult to single out any special joint features, except for a short fur coat.
  3. Naked, bald or sphinxes awaken the most conflicting feelings. Photographs cause tenderness in someone, and disgust in someone. However, the owners of these unique creatures claim that these are the most ordinary cats, although without hair. But they are very attached to the owner, they play a lot and eat a lot, because they are always trying to keep warm.

But is there a significant difference between all these breeds? Lovers of cats of noble blood claim that they are clean, obedient, independent and quick-witted. Are the outbred street vagrants any less intelligent? Moreover, anyone who brought home a kitten from the street will prove that even yesterday's residents of the yards have a love for cleanliness, and there is no need to talk about cat independence.

A chic fur coat requires careful care so that it does not fall off in any case, and its tail does not resemble a shabby brush or broom.

Close attention to shaggy pets should be paid during their molting period. If you are not afraid of the daily care of an animal, then by all means get this sweetest creature. Those who have a shaggy animal at home should understand that this is another family member that requires special care. What breed should be preferred? The names of fluffy cat breeds, as well as their features, will be presented to your attention in the article.

Persian cat

Who is the shaggy champion? Persians are the most fluffy cats in comparison with other members of the cat family. They are very popular in our country.

Adults reach seven kilograms. The chest of predators is especially wide, like the back, the legs are somewhat short, and the head is rather large. The muzzle resembles the face of a child.

The fur of a cat is long and fluffy, like a dandelion, and incredibly thick. It is difficult to comb it, but it is necessary to do this, otherwise tangles will begin to appear, which will give the pet an untidy look.

The Persian breed sheds all year round, and in summer it is especially strong. It is necessary to brush its fur regularly, because there is a risk that the cat will eat its own hair, as a result of which blockage of the intestines will occur and stomach problems may occur.

ragdoll

This breed is also called the "rag doll". Without it, the description of furry pets will be incomplete. These beauties also need care, otherwise they are threatened with tangles that will have to be carefully cut with scissors. And this will negatively affect the color of this breed. If the cat is light, then at the cut site, wool of a darker shade will begin to grow. And for breeders, this is almost a disaster.

Representatives of ragdolls have a unique feature of muscle relaxation. If you pick up such a kitten, you can feel each of his relaxed muscles. This means that the cat completely trusts the person and is ready to be in his full power.

For this reason, you should try to treat the pet carefully, do not throw it sharply on the floor, otherwise it is easy to injure it. He cannot quickly orient himself and jump on his paws, changing the position of the body in the blink of an eye.

The character of thoroughbred individuals is calm, moreover, phlegmatic. They are very peaceful. On average, a ragdoll kitten can be purchased for 20 thousand rubles.

Siberian breed

These fluffy cats are considered the brave descendants of wild representatives of the breed living in the steppe. Their body is large, and their legs are very muscular. The weight is approximately twelve kilograms.

The head of the cats is wide, and the ears are slightly rounded, this is especially noticeable at the tips. The eyes are oval in shape. They are large and stand out on the muzzle. Their color can be either emerald green or amber yellow.

Siberian cats have retained all the hunting instincts that have passed from unusually wild ancestors. Bold, incredibly hardy and active, they are not afraid of anything.

But their character is calm, balanced. Representatives of the breed are very independent and restrained, and also perfectly amenable to training.

Siamese fluffy cat

Another fluffy breed. Its distinctive feature is that its representatives do not have an undercoat, which facilitates care. The coat fits snugly enough to the body and lengthens from the pet's head to its most fluffy part - the tail.

The body is slender, elongated, very graceful, and the head is wedge-shaped. The cut of the eyes of a pet is almond-shaped, which looks beautiful. And their color is most often azure, blue. The tail is longer than other breeds. It grows long, silky fur.

The weight of Siamese cats is small, only five kilograms. They live an average of 12 years, and bring four or five kittens per lamb. Babies appear white, and later begin to change color and acquire their own unique shade.

With the surrounding cats are very affectionate, sociable, excellent contact with other animals. Their friends include dogs, parrots, and even hamsters.

Siamese fluffy cats, whose photos you see in the article, become attached to their owners, often call them with a gentle meow, rub against their legs, and call for dialogue. They are always full of energy, cheerful and peaceful.

sacred burma

Representatives of this breed are incredibly shaggy individuals, they need special care, like other feline representatives.

You will have to comb your hair at least 2-3 times a day. They have an incredibly beautiful tail: very fluffy, with luxurious silkiness and an unusual color. Burma also boasts a similar collar.

By nature, cats cannot live without communication, they passionately love to play and make friends with people. But they are active - within reason, often resting on an easy chair in the shade.

Turkish angora

The oldest breed of cats. She is known all over the world for her snow-white color and amazing color and eye shape. Mostly thoroughbred individuals have eyes of a beautiful green hue, but there are owners of blue and even heterochromic combinations.

The coat of cats is soft, incredibly delicate, but very dense. Representatives of the breed are very smart, like to look into every corner, showing curiosity. They can easily learn to turn the lights on and off, open the door handles, and climb the refrigerator in search of their favorite sausages.

"Turkish women" quickly become attached to their owners, love when they are looked after. They need to be combed out at least three or four times a week. Once a month they need to be washed, but this should not be done more often.

Maine Coon

Maine Coons are real kings in the cat kingdom. This breed is the largest and, in recent years, very popular. In color, fluffy cats resemble a raccoon. Representatives of the breed weigh an average of about fifteen kilograms. The body of the Maine Coon is powerful and muscular. The chest is very developed compared to other breeds, and the muzzle in the process of mutation has acquired the shape of a rectangle.

The head is large, but the neck is not very long, medium in size. The ears are set wide apart, very cute tassels are visible on their tips. This makes them look like their relatives. It is believed that they have much in common with the graceful and beautiful lynx. The eyes of the breed are slanted and incredibly beautiful. The color is green or real gold, less often - sunny yellow.

turkish van

This breed is called "kiss of the sun". It is not suitable for Russian latitudes. The physique of the cat is muscular, the chest is highly developed, but the individual itself is quite elegant, graceful and incredibly plastic. It has a fairly short tail, thick at the base. The muzzle of the "Turk" is neat, the ears stick out vertically. The eyes are large, oval in shape, reminiscent of lakes in which the sun of Turkey is reflected.

Cats are respectable gentlemen who consider themselves full masters in the house. They love cleanliness and always keep it. And fluffy cats are very loving, appreciate affection and are happy with any attention. They do not know how to be alone without showing anxiety. "Turks" are thoughtful, unhurried, they like fresh impressions.
