Short two-piece Snow Maiden costume

The proposed version of the suit consists of a fluffy short mini skirt and a figure-fitting jacket with a fluffy peplum.

What you need to prepare

We will not make long and obvious enumerations of threads, needles, etc.; a simple appeal to logic will help here. Important information is about how to sew a Snow Maiden costume, as well as the choice of material that can be made from the following list:

  • fleece;
  • brocade;
  • dense satin;
  • thick silk;
  • thick satin.

And, of course, the color of the fabric plays a role:

  • all shades of blue or cyan;
  • white;
  • light gray.

It’s easy to calculate the cut size: skirt length + jacket length to the waist + sleeve length + peplum size on the bias.

In addition to the main material, you will also need white faux fur; its number of centimeters is calculated in the same way.

Preparing patterns

Making a pattern yourself is a troublesome task, so we download the main bodice pattern of our size from the Internet, and then based on it we will model our pattern for a suit. In addition, we also need to measure:

  • desired skirt length;
  • waist height;
  • waist circumference;
  • desired width of the peplum;
  • neck circumference;
  • sleeve length.
  1. To learn how to sew a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands using patterns, it is important to familiarize yourself with a fairly large amount of information, including how to correctly measure the waist height. Waist height is measured from shoulder to waist, passing through the highest point of the chest. We cut the main pattern of the front and back to the waist height we received.
  2. Since our shelf will consist of two parts and will be fastened with an overlap, we make a duplicate of the shelf pattern. We place the pattern on the paper, retreat 3-4 cm from the middle of the shelf, draw a vertical line along the entire length, trace the new pattern and cut it out.
  3. We immediately prepare the peplum pattern; it will consist of three parts, putting on paper a length equal to a quarter of the waist width multiplied by 1.5. One side of the pattern will be straight, this is the middle of the peplum from the back side, along this line we put 2 cm down and put a dot. On the other side of the peplum pattern, we draw an inclined side line, like a trapezoid. We connect the two upper points with a smooth line, put down the intended width of the peplum, connect all the lines, and get a pattern for a quarter of the peplum.
  4. We prepare the skirt pattern by laying down on paper a quarter of the width of the waist, multiplied by 1.5, laying the side of the pattern on the bias, getting one of the sides of the trapezoid. We lay the middle line in a straight line and cut out a quarter of the pattern, the measured length of the skirt.
  5. To model a sleeve pattern, we make several cuts along the sleeve cap at a distance of 3–4 cm, the length of the cuts reaches the line of the height of the sleeve cap. We place the pattern on the paper, move the slits apart and trace a new sleeve round, further along the lines of the main pattern to the desired sleeve length. We get our modeled sleeve pattern, becoming more and more familiar with the process of how to sew a costume for the Snow Maiden.
  6. It is also very easy to make a pattern for a stand-up collar; we draw a horizontal line on paper equal in length to half the circumference of the neck. We put down the desired height of the stand-up collar, approximately 5-6 cm, connect all the lines and cut out the pattern.

Photos of Snow Maiden costume patterns for adults and children:

Cutting out the details of the costume

  1. Having passed the important stage of preparing the pattern, we proceed to cutting the fabric. Fold the fabric in half along the entire length, apply the back pattern, make seam allowances and cut it out.
  2. When cutting out a skirt, we place the pattern on the fabric along the bias line, having determined it in advance and folding the fabric in half. We alternately cut out two parts of the skirt - trapezoids, cut “on the bias” with an increased waistline to obtain gathers.
  3. Similarly, we cut out all the other details of the Snow Maiden’s costume, making sure that the directions of all the details match, this is especially important if there is a print or pile.
  4. Now we begin to cut out the finishing parts from fur, for which we measure the resulting length of the hem of the skirt and immediately set this size aside on a piece of faux fur. We put the desired width of the finishing fur strip down and cut out the resulting part, leaving allowances for the joints.
  5. When cutting out a collar, make the fur part 2 cm wider than the fabric part.
  6. Similarly, we cut out strips of fur to trim the bodice of the suit, as well as details of the collar - stand and cuffs on the sleeves.
  7. The sequence of connecting the bodice parts.

Sewing video:

Back

  1. First we have to work by hand, and only after we connect all the seams with a basting stitch and make adjustments to them after trying on the suit, we sew the parts together on a sewing machine.
  2. We begin preparing the parts for basting by manually sewing all the darts on the back and front, getting acquainted with the process of how to sew a costume for the Snow Maiden.
  3. We baste the details along the shoulder line and connect the side seams, do a preliminary fitting, and, if necessary, adjust the armhole, neckline and overall width of the bodice.
  4. If we are satisfied with everything, we sew all the basting seams on a machine.

Basque

  1. Now we make the peplum, sew all three parts, then along the waist line we make two parallel lines with wide spacing. By pulling the ends of the threads from the resulting seams, we assemble the peplum into gathers, ensuring that the size of the waist line matches the size of the bodice.
  2. If the resulting basque does not seem too fluffy to you, then we baste it along the waist line to the bodice, otherwise we adjust the degree of gathering.

Sleeves

  1. We baste the sleeves, first gathering the sleeve cap into an assembly, just like we did with the peplum.
  2. We sew the sleeve cap into the bodice armhole using a basting stitch, do a preliminary fitting, correct the result and sew it on a machine.
  3. At the bottom of the sleeves we sew finishing cuffs made of fur fabric. We did not make a special pattern for this part; we simply cut out the cuffs of the desired width and a length equal to the length of the sleeve bottom line. Next, we apply the cuff so that we sew its edge from the wrong side to the wrong side of the bottom of the sleeve, fold the cuff to the front side, fold it and stitch it.

Collar

  1. We prepare the stand-up collar by sewing together two pieces cut out for it, one from the main fabric, the other from fur. If the fabric is too soft, then we also cut out a special paper spacer for the collars to maintain their shape.
  2. We turn the resulting design right side out and baste the fur side to the neckline of the bodice. Cover the top with the fabric side and sew on the machine.
  3. We sew a fur trim strip along the entire length of the front shelf, starting from the top of the neck, passing along the bottom of the peplum and ending at the neck of the other shelf. For greater effect of the costume, we also sew silver braid along the entire finishing strip.
  4. You can use Velcro as a fastener, the bodice of the costume is ready, you can try it on, because you already practically know how to sew a costume for the Snow Maiden.

How to sew a skirt

  1. We sew the two parts of the skirt that we received when cutting the fabric along the side seams. We make two folds at the top, one 0.5 cm along the entire length of the waist line, and sew with basting. Then we bend it again to a width determined by the width of the prepared elastic band, baste it and stitch it on a machine. We take an elastic band for the skirt that is not too wide, 1 - 2 cm will be enough, measure the length equal to the waist circumference and thread it into the skirt.
  2. We sew the prepared finishing strip of fur from the bottom of the skirt from the inside out, similar to the operation that we carried out with the cuff. Next, we wrap the fur strip onto the front part of the skirt in exactly the same way and sew it first with a basting and then with a sewing machine.
  3. So we made with our own hands an excellent stylish costume for the Snow Maiden, in which you can not only go to a children's party, but also to any adult party and be the center of attention. Such creativity will definitely not go unnoticed and will create a sensation.

How to make a kokoshnik

This headdress can be made in several versions, we offer the simplest one, but you will have to tinker a little with its manufacture.

Having prepared:

  • cardboard;
  • paper;
  • glue gun;
  • main fabric;
  • beads and beads.

Let’s start making a kokoshnik for the Snow Maiden’s costume step by step with our own hands:

  1. Having made the desired shape of the kokoshnik on paper, transfer the pattern to cardboard, trace it and cut it out.
  2. Next, we place the kokoshnik pattern on the main fabric from which the suit was sewn; if this is a problem, then you can quite easily use another fabric, choosing a suitable color.
  3. We cut out two parts from the fabric according to the shape of the pattern, but one part should be 1.5 cm larger than the other, this is one of the small nuances of the process of how to sew a costume for the Snow Maiden.
  4. We glue both received parts to a cardboard base, then decorate the resulting kokoshnik as your imagination dictates.

The photo shows that this is a very real and quite exciting task. If you use the advice of master classes on needlework in terms of weaving with beads, then you can weave a mesh of beads characteristic of this headdress on your forehead.

By attaching the mesh to the kokoshnik, you can also decorate its sides with small, eye-catching pendants. The top of the kokoshnik can be decorated along its entire length with a beaded ribbon or fur trim, or you can use both. The richer the kokoshnik is decorated, the more it will give the entire costume the brightness and color of the New Year’s character.

Now that the kokoshnik is sufficiently decorated, it is necessary to take measures to securely fasten it to the head. There are several options for this, one of them is fastening with wide tapes.

We cut out long wide ribbons from the main fabric, or purchase ready-made wide satin ribbons of the required length and suitable color. We fasten the ribbons on the back sides, put on the kokoshnik and tie a large, spectacular bow.

It’s not difficult to make a DIY Snow Maiden costume using patterns for adults and children! Therefore, be sure to try to sew such a New Year's look.

A A

According to tradition, the Snow Maiden costume is a dress (fur coat) made of white, silver or blue material, elegant boots, and a hat or kokoshnik.

Snow Maidens who have left childhood usually choose their outfits for the New Year in stores. For little Snow Maidens, costumes are usually sewn by caring mothers.

Before you start making the Snow Maiden costume...

To begin with, you should look in the closet and on the mezzanine. For a children's Snow Maiden costume, any dress made of elegant, preferably thick and shiny, material is quite suitable.

All that remains is to decorate it with a fur trim (or tinsel), create an elegant collar and decorate the hem with rhinestones, snowflakes or beads - in general, whoever has enough imagination for what.

Snow Maiden costume for kindergarten

For this outfit, wear white tights and a white turtleneck (badlon, long-sleeved blouse).

Basic materials for a costume are available in almost every home, every woman. So there shouldn't be any problems finding them.

Costume materials:

We sew a sundress for the Snow Maiden:

  1. To create a pattern, take a sheet of wallpaper. Trace your daughter's T-shirt on a piece of paper and draw it to make a dress.
  2. Trace the pattern onto the material of the old shirt. When tracing the back side of the sundress, make the neckline cutout less deep than on the front side.
  3. Make a seam allowance (at least one centimeter) and, cutting out patterns from the fabric, sew both sides, leaving cutouts for the sleeves.
  4. Along the neck of the sundress, along its hem and cutouts for the sleeves, make a piping from the straps and trim of the shirt.
  5. Cover the bottom of the sundress with shiny tinsel (fur).
  6. On the front side of the sundress (from the throat to the bottom of the hem) sew large snowflake sequins or fur in two even vertical stripes.
  7. Sew large tinsel snowflakes between the stripes instead of buttons.

Cape for the Snow Maiden:

  • To create a pattern, again, take a sheet of wallpaper. Draw a large circle, and in its center a small circle, which will be the neck. Three quarters of the resulting circle is the cape pattern. Cut out.
  • Trace the pattern onto the fabric (on a shirt, or other existing fabric that matches the main fabric), taking into account seam allowances, and cut out again.
  • Finish the edges of the cape with the existing piping and trim it with shiny tinsel (fur).
  • On the front, sew tinsel snowflakes on each side of the cape.
  • Sew a couple of straps at the neckline - the ties of the cape.
  • The cape, if desired and possible, can be painted with fabric paint. For example, create a light frosty pattern with silver. Or embroider large snowflakes on fabric with sequins.

Snow Maiden's Crown:

Costume for school

As you know, nothing is impossible. And sewing a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands is not at all as difficult as it seems. This outfit will consist of a cape, an upper and lower dress - and, of course, a headdress.

It is preferable to choose a fabric - white or blue brocade, but if it is not available, you can choose other options available in cabinets and mezzanines.

The trim of the sleeves and hem in this case is white light fur.

Costume materials:

  • Tulle (or other lightweight fabric);
  • Tracing paper for patterns (wallpaper);
  • Brocade (or other elegant and dense fabric);
  • White light fur (faux). In its absence, the fur is replaced with shiny tinsel;
  • Trim (strip of fabric for finishing);
  • Beads, sequins, beads, foil;
  • Tools (scissors, thread, needle, glue).

Snow Maiden's underdress:

Snow Maiden's top dress:

Snow Maiden's cape:

Snow Maiden's hat:

  1. Transfer the pattern details onto tracing paper, according to the size of the child’s head.
  2. Cut out pieces from thick fabric. You can use fabric for an outer dress.
  3. Fold the cut wedges of the cap with the wrong side out, sew one side. Then sew the second pair of wedges. Fold the resulting two parts right sides inward and sew the sides.
  4. Turn the cap inside out and iron it.
  5. A pompom for a hat can be made from fur by cutting out a circle (D=12cm), basting and pulling it along the edge and securing it with thread. You can also sew pompoms on ribbons.
  6. Sew a strip of white fur along the edge of the hat.
  7. The suit is ready.

Every girl dreams of being a princess. To do this, she needs special attributes: a beautiful dress and shoes and, of course, a real royal crown. A crown or kokoshnik will also be useful for a children's New Year's party, a fun New Year's party, a birthday celebration or a family performance.

Motherhood.ru reveals the secrets of making a real crown and kokoshnik for a little princess. We will look at different materials and manufacturing techniques: frame, knitted, models made from ribbons, plastic, fabric, birch bark and straw, beads, cardboard and even food.

Let's start with the easier-to-make royal headdresses for the festive masquerade, gradually moving towards more labor-intensive masterpieces.

Crown made of paper, cardboard and cardboard cup

A simple and quick crown to make is made from a piece of flat cardboard. In this case, you can use colored and holographic cardboard. We apply the image of the crown, cut it out, and glue it along the edge of the joints. We decorate with sparkles, paints, rhinestones, beads, and nail polish. We thread it with a thin hat elastic. Now the small crown will rest securely on the little princess’s head.

The same model can be made from a leftover toilet paper roll. Then it will not need to be glued.

Using a pressed paper seedling cup can make a stronger crown. Cut out the top of the cup to create teeth. Paint the base white. Then use a scouring sponge to lightly apply the gold paint using a dabbing motion. There is no need to paint with solid “gold”. Light white gaps will give the crown more elegance and transparency. We decorate the crown with rhinestones and “precious stones”. We glue a hairpin holder on the bottom side. Now you can pin it directly to your hair!

You can glue together a lightweight crown design from colored paper. Cut equal squares of paper. We make diagonal bends. Now we glue the resulting triangles together, as in the image. Even small children can handle this simple option. Get crafting together!

Crown made from ready-made semi-finished products: headband, three snowflakes, bright berries

We buy a white headband, several ready-made plastic snowflakes, bright berries or beads for decoration. Glue snowflakes and berries onto the base. If desired, we decorate with carved braid or lace, rhinestones, and gold spray. Instead of a headband, you can use a plastic wreath, hoop, or cardboard blank.

The result was an elegant tiara for a girl playing the role of the Snow Maiden, Snowflake, and Blizzard at the New Year's party.

Royal lace crown

To make such a crown you will need:

Beautiful carved lace braid 40-45 cm long. The length depends on the desired diameter of the final product.
PVA glue.
Wax paper.
Gold, silver, bronze or other colored spray in a can. Or acrylic paint.
Glue Crystal-moment or hot melt glue.
A sponge or cloth for applying and wiping off excess glue.

We place our lace on wax paper and coat it with PVA glue 2-4 times until completely dry. After complete drying, paint the workpiece in the desired color. Each layer of paint must dry well. Glue the crown along the edge, matching the pattern. We use hot melt glue or Crystal Moment glue. We decorate the crown as desired. It can be gold or silver:

Or match the tone of the royal outfit: soft pink, yellow, blue.

Plastic crown

As a material for this crown, you can take transparent packaging from children's toys or household appliances, or a large plastic bottle. We cut out the base of our crown. We apply a patterned design. We brush it with thick colored gel with glitter, paint, glue glitter or rhinestones, and paint it with nail polish. And the crown is ready!

Tinsel crown

The essence of making this crown is to wrap the wire base with shiny tinsel. It turns out bright, shiny and voluminous. It can be made gold, silver or colored.

Crown and kokoshnik using quilling technique

You can make a crown entirely using the quilling technique - from intricate paper curls. At the same time, you can use colored paper and a variety of designs: winter flowers, snowflakes, curls. It is very beautiful and unusual, although the work is quite labor-intensive.

You can make your work a little easier without reducing the originality of the product. We cut out the base of the kokoshnik from colored cardboard. We make fastenings from satin ribbons or bows of a suitable color. Now we decorate the dark kokoshnik with a snow-white pattern using the quilling technique. The result is a kind of frosty design.

Look what they wear with this kokoshnik. This is a “winter” snow-white fluffy cape, decorations in the Russian style.

When choosing a kokoshnik uniform for a carnival costume, you should be inspired by ancient paintings and photographs of Russian beauties in rational clothing.

Royal crown made of wire and ribbons

We make a wire blank in the shape of the crown of the Russian Empire. We decorate it with white and gold ribbons, braid, large stones and pearls. Use the basics of the macrame technique to weave ribbons and braid. Such a masterpiece will be remembered for a long time by all participants of the New Year's holiday!

Birch bark or straw crown

Products made from birch bark and straw are not only bast shoes, hats, boxes, but also crowns. Here, for example, is a luxurious crown in eco-style!

The essence of the kanzashi technique is the production of masterpieces from fabric “petals”. Petals are often made from satin ribbons, which are cut into 5x5 cm squares. They are used to make round petals, simple sharp open petals. Watch a step-by-step master class on making a red satin crown using the kanzashi technique.

The kanzashi technique produces delicate winter flowers that can be used to make hairbands, small or large crowns.

A kokoshnik for the New Year's holiday using the kanzashi technique is made from satin petals fastened with wire and threads. They are attached to the rim. Look how beautiful it turns out!

Crowns made using macrame technique

We all remember flowerpots, funny dogs and owls made using the macrame technique. However, this is far from the limit of skill. You can make a crown from macrame for a little or big princess.

The simplest option is to weave a headband for the crown using the macrame technique and decorate it with additional details. This can be a ready-made flat crown, a wire model with ribbons and beads.

Real craftswomen will be able to create truly royal works with gold threads, woven stones and beads, and figured designs.

Wire crown

The crown can be made from “gold” or “silver” wire. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to overload it with decorations. It is enough to make an ornate lace pattern and decorate it with several large stones. It turns out concisely and tastefully. But do not forget about safety - all ends of the wire must be perfectly bent.

Crowns made of beads and stones

The royal crown can be made from “golden” beads. To do this, we string it on a wire and give it the intended shape.

The crown can be literally “studded with precious gems.” Abundant decoration made of beads, bugles, beads, and pearls will create an atmosphere of royal luxury. The crown can be made in accordance with the color scheme of the festive dress.

A crown made of beads and stones can be soft snow-white. This is a great option to complement a New Year's carnival costume and for a wedding ceremony. This way, once you make a masterpiece, you can use it over and over again.

The crown can be monochrome, like in chess. You can organize a party-tournament on this topic: “Whites versus Blacks.” Come up with various competitions: active and intellectual, comic tasks. This New Year's Eve will be remembered for a long time! Make the crowns in a fancy shape.

Such black and white crowns will also be useful for creating the image of Odette and Odile from Swan Lake.

Knitted kokoshniks

Craftswomen and skilled knitters should pay attention to the theme of kokoshniks that suits them. We crochet individual elements in winter colors - snowflakes, curls, flowers. We starch them and attach them to a base rim or kokoshnik with a wire base.

Frame kokoshniks

We make the frame of the kokoshnik from wire, wrap it with tape, and sew on a transparent fabric base. For example, tulle or tulle. We apply a Gzhel style ornament to it. This painting fits perfectly with the winter theme. But you can also use other folk paintings. We color the ornament, decorate it with a ribbon of beads along the edge, and make a fastening in the form of a half-cap or satin ribbons. Large rhinestones can be glued to the fabric base.

An original kokoshnik hat in the shape of a green spruce is an excellent themed accessory for celebrating the New Year. Extravagant, stylish and to the point!

You can make a kokoshnik professionally according to the following scheme: make a frame out of wire, cover it with a base fabric, glue brocade to it using paper clips, decorate the kokoshnik with pearl thread, sparkles, rhinestones and bugles, and tulle.

You can combine a frame kokoshnik with a cardboard one. Make carved designs in cardboard and glue translucent fabric over it. Decorate to your liking and the kokoshnik is ready!

And this kokoshnik would look great on the head of Nastenka, the heroine of the fairy tale “Morozko”.

We make a real costume for the Snow Queen from a wire base and fabric decor. We decorate the outfit in the same style. The stand-up collar with large “cold” decorations is especially chic.

Crown of food

You can decorate the cardboard base of the kokoshnik with almost anything. There would be a desire to create! Small, “grainy” products are perfect: peas, corn, lentils, rice, beans, buckwheat, millet. We glue our future “stones” to the base. We color it with pearls and precious stones.

Now let's get down to business! After all, before the New Year you need to have time to build your own crown or kokoshnik design. We wish you creative inspiration and good mood!

Kokoshnik is an ancient Russian headdress - a symbol of Russian traditional costume! The secret of sewing a “flat” kokoshnik is simple: it is sewn with a backdrop, a sort of “cap” on which it rests. Large decorative bows are also sometimes placed on the backdrop.

1:983 1:988

5:1016 5:1021

First, a silhouette is cut out from thick cardboard or glued in several layers, it is also the front part of the kokoshnik. Its inner arc is first cut out in a newspaper sketch, the optimal shape is found experimentally.Then comes the turn of patterns, the most painstaking part of the work.

5:1545

5:4

ATTENTION! All sizes are given here just for comparison! (and without seam allowances) - You will still have to measure them again. The kokoshnik is a very individual thing, and if you try to put it on even a similar-looking head, you won’t succeed. But it will sit like a glove!

5:508 5:513

6:1017 6:1022

The patterns consist of a tracing paper of the front side, the “face” of the kokoshnik, a long panel of the top and the “back”. Everything is in at least 2 copies.

6:1272 6:1277 6:1282

Measurements:

6:1304 6:1309

In the figure, the lines along which measurements are taken are indicated in red. The cross is the approximate "top", the corner point of the head. In practice, the distance up and down from it is approximately equal.

7:383 7:388 7:393

Open the top of the backdrop:

7:443 7:448

8:961 8:966

It is most convenient to first sew the backdrop separately using the first measurements, and then, putting it on your head, adjust it, pinning it with pins along the way - this is the origin of the sharp cutout, indicated by a dotted line on the cutting of the top. Once fitted, it can be stitched straight away.

8:1439 8:1444 8:1449

Open the back of the back:

8:1501 8:4

9:517 9:522

Place a cardboard base on a tightly stretched, ready-made backdrop and draw chalk along the contour of the contact of the fabric to the cardboard. (This is easy to do in front of a mirror.) As a result, you will get an oval notch on the long top panel. It can be cut out and hidden in the seams, or it can be left as a “visor” covering part of the forehead (but then it will be a little more difficult to sew on the front part).

9:1204

The backdrop is sewn in at least two layers (if the fabric is very thick, you can do it in one, but you will have to hide the reverse), with thin fabric or a very heavy top (for example, heavily decorated with stones) - in several layers.

9:1597

9:4 9:9

Reveal faces:

9:46 9:51

10:564 10:569

The face of a kokoshnik comes in a wide variety of shapes and depends only on the imagination of the author.

10:734 10:739

11:1247 11:1252

2 parts are cut out from the main fabric according to the finished cardboard silhouette (don’t forget the seam allowances). It is not necessary to make a lining for the back part, but for the front part it is simply necessary. Whether the kokoshnik is decorated with embroidery and beads or rhinestones and stones, it will all look much better on the backing. As such, it is good, for example, to use flannel - it is thick and soft, and besides, it can be lightly quilted so as not to bulge and there are no seams along the edges.

11:2138

11:4

If the main fabric is thin and see-through, the backing should be matching or white.

11:155

Then you sew the backing to the main front fabric along the contour (that is, without going into the territory of seam allowances), and sew the first (inner) backdrop along the edge of the inner contour. You perform the same operation with the second copies, with the only difference that here one layer is enough for the backing - it’s still worth doing it, because all the seams will be drawn back. To prevent the edges of the material from puffing up, it is better not to hem it, but to stitch it with a zigzag.

11:983 11:988

Now both parts of the “face”, turned inside out, are stitched along the entire length of the kokoshnik arc: on the one hand - from the top (center) down to the bottom corner, and on the other - in the same way, but bending over this corner and including the lower part, to from the very beginning of the backdrop. Next, all the “excess” fabric of the seams is brought to the back, where it is carefully straightened out and masked behind the backing. This is the last moment to ensure that everything is done correctly.

11:1749

11:4

After this, you can insert the cardboard base inside and manually stitch the bottom of the second arc. If you sew the bottom on both sides at once, it will be difficult to insert and may even bend. Both backdrops are stitched manually, but very carefully, along the inner arc of the kokoshnik. The bottom of the backdrops can also be sewn by machine.

What does the suit consist of?

You can make your own Snow Maiden costume in different ways. Before starting work, think over its concept: what parts the image will consist of, what materials you will have to purchase.

If the child does not have clothes that can be used as a basis for cutting out a costume from fabric (for example, a dress or coat), find a pattern for a Snow Maiden costume and adjust it to the girl’s parameters.

A traditional Snow Maiden costume for a child consists of the following components:

  • long and slightly fluffy dress with large sleeves. It is advisable to decorate it with embroidery or rain;
  • coat of fur or similar material. Instead of a fur coat, a coat without buttons, widening at the bottom, is suitable;
  • white shoes or boots;
  • headdress: You can use a hat, a patterned scarf or a kokoshnik.

In most cases, the Snow Maiden's outfit is created from blue, light gray or white fabrics. But you can complement the image with other shades, especially since the costume of the modern Snow Maiden can be changed at your discretion.

For example, you can do without a fur coat if you sew a dress from warm material. And if it is planned that the child will jump, run and dance, we advise you to do without insulating elements altogether, as he will quickly sweat. It is better to take a warm jacket with you.

The dress may also not play the main role in the Snow Maiden costume for a child. Increasingly, it is being replaced with a set of a full skirt and blouse. Moreover, the length of the skirt can be short so as not to interfere with the child’s movement.

Instead of a kokoshnik, the creation of which often takes a lot of time, you can sew a Snow Maiden hat. For the base, take a thick blue fabric, and make the frill with fur, cotton wool, fluffy rain or other material.

Advice: the hat can be replaced with a regular crown: then the Snow Maiden will become a princess at the winter holiday.

As for shoes, any shapes and shades are allowed here. The main thing is that the child is comfortable, and the shoes or boots are in harmony with the main outfit.

As you can see, the Snow Maiden’s New Year’s costumes are distinguished by their diversity, despite the fact that many have an identical idea of this character.

Patterns for the Snow Maiden costume will differ depending on the age of the child. For small children, you will need less fabric, but it should be of higher quality, warm and cozy so as not to cause discomfort to the baby.

If you have enough time to prepare, try crocheting a New Year's costume for a girl. Prepare white and blue yarn, as well as fur elements to decorate the Snow Maiden’s children’s outfit.

Knitting a Snow Maiden costume for a girl is necessary using common techniques, so if you do not have experience in such work, first familiarize yourself with knitting methods.
In the same way, you can make a Snow Maiden hat so that the costume looks like a single whole.

Complete the look with homemade boots. Look for a pattern of boots for the Snow Maiden with your own hands or also make them from yarn, making the sole blue and the rest white.

As for the dress itself, here you can alternate the selected shades. An outfit decorated with wide stripes or geometric patterns will look impressive. Using more complex techniques, you can create puffed and double sleeves, ruffles and other decorative accents.

A Snow Maiden costume for 2 years and older will look even more interesting if you knit a print in the form of snowflakes or stars.

Advice: In order not to waste time on knitted patterns, sew beads and beads to the finished dress to create a themed winter ornament.

All that remains is to add the details: sew the fur to the dress in the area of the sleeves, lower frill and collar. Regular rain will help complement your outfit with bright accents. You can also use it when creating a Snow Maiden hat using a pattern with your own hands.

The second way to sew a Snow Maiden costume for a small child involves the use of tulle, satin, foil, ribbons, rain and beads.

We present to you a short master class on a do-it-yourself Snow Maiden carnival costume:

  • Using the Snow Maiden pattern, make a blank for a sundress or sleeveless dress. You can take a plain fabric, since at least two layers are supposed to be created, and the dress will be decorated later;
  • sew the dress, then start sewing on the top layer of tulle (most often it is used to decorate the area of the skirt and sleeves);
  • Decorate the tulle with foil snowflakes and other decorative elements;
  • complement the suit with white golf, which is worn under a sundress;
  • braid, satin ribbons, rain and fur are used to decorate seams and hems;
  • Sew a round Snow Maiden hat using the pattern. For decoration, use the same materials as on the dress;
  • Don't forget the white tights and pumps, which can be transformed into fabulous boots using leftover fabric.

We sew the Snow Maiden's outfit for school

Now let's figure out how to make a Snow Maiden costume for an older girl. In this case, it is important to pay attention to details, since your daughter or granddaughter will probably want to look her best at the holiday.

We will talk about how to sew the Snow Maiden with your own hands using patterns and how to knit a Snow Maiden costume from yarn.

Let's start with a dress for the Snow Maiden made of fabric. We will make the outfit separate, that is, it will include a skirt and a blouse.

When creating such a Snow Maiden costume for a girl, you can use several colors at once: for example, make the top blue and the bottom blue, or dilute the look with snow-white inserts.

Advice: You can also start with separate elements when creating a pattern for the Snow Maiden’s dress: after completing all the work, all you have to do is sew the jacket and skirt.

The blouse should be quite loose, as sometimes a warmer jacket is worn under it. Often, to create a pattern for a children's costume, the Snow Maiden takes a shirt, leaving even the collar, but making it more rounded. If the top of the outfit is expected to look like a coat, take a warmer and thicker fabric.

It’s better to make the skirt in the Snow Maiden’s New Year’s costume fluffy with your own hands. To do this, take organza or similar fabric, as well as elastic to assemble the skirt. Cut the organza into 10-12 cm strips - and start tying them to the elastic so that you get two layers of the same length.

The ribbons should fit tightly to each other: this will make the skirt fuller. Use a wide ribbon or belt to hide knots.

Also make your own boots for the Snow Maiden. Take a warm and thick fabric and make a blank using the pattern of wide socks. Seal the base of the boots with a cardboard insole.

If you decide to crochet the Snow Maiden costume, also make the top and bottom separately. The lace look will be even more spectacular with a combination of shades. You can take several colors of yarn and create an image with a smooth gradient transition from light to dark.

Advice: To add fluffiness to the bottom of the suit, use thick fabric.

Some knitting techniques involve creating a “see-through” suit, so it will be better if you wear a light satin dress with such an outfit. It is advisable to make it shorter than the outerwear (about 3-5 cm).

It is better not to make a neckline on the dress, as well as sleeves, as these details will look unnecessary, peeking out from under the knitted components of the outfit.

And, of course, don’t forget about additional jewelry: a “winter” necklace, earrings or bracelets that will make the Snow Maiden’s costume for the New Year even brighter.

Cape for the Snow Maiden's dress

Now you know how to sew a Snow Maiden costume yourself, but sometimes such an outfit involves creating a cape on the dress, so let's dwell on the features of this process. What do we need? Just a long fabric, a raincoat for the frill, decorations, and an elastic band or ribbon to be able to secure the cape on the shoulders.

Here's how to make a cape in just a few steps:

  1. Prepare your pattern. Cut a large circle from the fabric with a radius equal to the planned length of the cape. Make a hole inside for the head.
  2. On one side, cut the circle to the middle. If you want to create a wrinkle-free cape, cut off some of the fabric.
  3. Sew hooks or buttons onto the free edges of the cape. Hem the borders of the fabric with bright threads, rain or tinsel.
  4. Don't forget to decorate the collar of the cape: use cotton wool or faux fur for this.
    The cape is ready. Now you don’t have to worry about your child being cold in a smart dress. And with additional decoration, this element will only emphasize the solemnity of the created image.

Kokoshnik for the Snow Maiden

How to make a kokoshnik for the Snow Maiden with your own hands? To do this, you will need a thick base, as well as fabric and additional materials for decoration.

You should not give it an overly complex shape: cut out of cardboard an elongated figure with a semicircular base so that the headdress does not fall off.

The cardboard base is covered with fabric that matches the outfit. Beads, beads, and foil elements are sewn on top. Decorate the edges of the kokoshnik with rain or ribbons. Sew ties or elastic to the bottom corners.

Advice: some decorative elements can be sewn on only one side so that the beads hang freely on the headdress.

Think about the theme of the patterns in advance: on the front of such a decoration you can depict snowflakes, waves, zigzags and other ornaments. For convenience, you can immediately choose a fabric with a winter pattern: then the kokoshnik will look elegant without additional processing.

Here are all the details on how to make the Snow Maiden’s kokoshnik with your own hands.
