There are a large number of interesting and beautiful surnames in the world, among which each person has the right to choose the appropriate option.

How many people, so many opinions. For this reason, it is impossible to say exactly which are ugly and which are beautiful foreign surnames. All of them contain certain information; when translated into our language, they can mean some kind of craft, the name of plants, animals or birds, belong to a geographical area. Each country has its own euphonious surnames, so you need to choose the best of them for each region separately.

What surnames can be called beautiful?

Most people are proud of the name of their kind, although there are those who are not averse to changing it to a more harmonious one. Each country has its own surnames, but their origin is almost the same. The family received a personal name on behalf of its founder, his nickname, occupation, availability of land, belonging to some kind of status. Animals and plants are also often found. Nevertheless, we choose the most beautiful foreign surnames according to their euphony, and not according to the meaning of the content, which is not always known to us. In some cases, the name of the genus begins to be liked if its bearer is the idol of millions, a historical figure who has done something good and useful for mankind.

Aristocratic surnames

Noble families always sounded solemn, proud and high-flown. Rich people were proud of their origin and noble blood. Beautiful foreign surnames are mainly found among the descendants of noble families, and people who left a significant mark on history should also be included here: writers, artists, designers, composers, scientists, etc. The names of their genera are harmonious, often heard, so people are imbued with sympathy for them.

In England, the names of earls and wealthy nobles can be attributed to the beautiful: Bedford, Lincoln, Buckingham, Cornwall, Oxford, Wiltshire, Clifford, Mortimer. In Italy: Barberini, Visconti, Borgia, Pepoli, Spoleto, Medici.

Surnames derived from the names of birds, animals, plants

From the world of flora and fauna, many euphonious surnames have come that cause tenderness. Their owners were mainly people who liked certain animals, birds, plants, or they were similar in appearance or character. There are a huge number of such examples in Rus': Zaitsev, Orlov, Vinogradov, Lebedev, there are also in other countries. For example, in England: Bush (bush), Bull (bull), Swan (swan).

Beautiful foreign surnames are often formed on behalf of the ancestor: Cecil, Anthony, Henry, Thomas, etc. A lot of names are associated with a specific area with which the founders were associated: Ingleman, Germain, Pickard, Portwine, Kent, Cornwall, Westley. Of course, a huge group of family names are those associated with professions and titles. Some surnames arose spontaneously. If they evoke positive associations in people, then they can be attributed to beautiful, harmonious and successful, because they are greeted by clothes, so a good generic name helps many people to win over when they meet.

Spanish euphonious surnames

In Spaniards, family names are mostly double, they are connected by particles "y", "de", a hyphen or written with a space. The father's surname is written first, and the mother's surname is written second. It should be noted that the particle "de" indicates the aristocratic origin of the founder. Spanish law provides for no more than two given names and no more than two surnames. When getting married, women usually leave their family names.

Beautiful male foreign surnames are not uncommon for Spaniards. Fernandez is considered one of the most common, Rodriguez, Gonzalez, Sanchez, Martinez, Perez are not inferior in attractiveness to her - they all came from names. The harmonious Spanish surnames also include Castillo, Alvarez, Garcia, Flores, Romero, Pascual, Torres.

The nickname contained information about the place of birth or residence of a person. For example, the ancestor of the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci lived in the city of Vinci. Most Italian surnames were formed due to the transformation of descriptive nicknames, and they end in. All English family names can be conditionally divided into four groups: nominal, descriptive, professional and official, by place of residence. The most widespread group is made up of genealogical names of genera derived from personal names, or combinations of the names of both parents. Examples include: Allen, Henry, Thomas, Ritchie. Family names of a descriptive type reflect the physical or moral qualities of a person: Moody, Bragg, Black, Strong, Longman, Crump, White.

All genus names are unique and attractive in their own way. It should be remembered that it is not the surname that paints the person, but the person the surname. Studying the history of the emergence of certain family names is a very interesting and exciting activity, during which many secrets of individual families are revealed. And a few male names

Where did Russian surnames come from?

The curious history of Russian surnames goes far back to the 13th century. Previously, they were more like nicknames or nicknames given to each other by the nature of a craft or occupation. Already later, by the 16th century, real surnames began to appear, but this concerned only families of aristocratic origin.

The origin of such surnames mainly came from the names of the area or the possessions of wealthy gentlemen. Ordinary peasants did not have surnames until the beginning of the 19th century, but after the abolition of serfdom, they became mandatory for everyone. Nicknames given by occupation began to be recorded as surnames.

It is likely that your last name carries some very interesting historical meaning that can completely change the past opinion about yourself. Along with how Russian surnames arose and changed in the historical course, in other countries the story is a little different.

Origin of German surnames

For example, the first German names are found in the chronicles of the 6th century BC. They consisted of two parts and had a magical meaning, that is, the name endowed its bearer with certain powers and character traits. Much later, Italian names with a Christian meaning began to “flow” into the German language, for example, the name Adam meant “original”.

With the development of Christianity in the 15th century, they began to bear the names of saints or the names of biblical characters. German surnames began to appear in the Middle Ages, they were formed from the names of the places of birth of the carrier. Many surnames also came from nicknames, but here they reflected a characteristic physical trait of a person, for example, Frederick Barbarossa - Redbeard.

Origin of English surnames

The most popular in the world, and English surnames also have a very interesting history. They were built from a person's belonging to a particular family. As in most countries, the British did not have surnames until a certain time. In England, the same names were often used, which created a huge number of namesakes.

For example, in the 11th century, about 25% of the male population of England bore the name - John. This gave rise to the need to give individuality to each John, adding some nickname to the name. Historical analysis has deduced the main 4 groups of the emergence of English surnames:

  1. genealogical origin. Many were descended from the name of the father and did not change the form at the same time - Mark Anthony. There are also English surnames containing an additional explanation, such as - son (son). The result was: Thompson is Tom's son.
  2. Place of Birth. The family name was determined by the name of the locality, city or country. For example, Wales, Langley, Ingleman.
  3. Profession or position. Depending on what kind of activity a person was engaged in, he was given a family name that reflected this occupation: Spencer - the manager, Sayers - the one who tastes the food before being served on the royal table.
  4. Descriptive. This group reflects the physiological characteristics of a person, originating in nicknames. For example, Cudlipp is a cleft lip.

As we can see, the surname can tell very interesting information about its carrier. Perhaps you are a descendant of some aristocratic family - or your ancestors are from overseas countries, then the history of the surname can have a multinational meaning and an interesting story.

In conclusion about the family tree and features of surnames

As a result of a small analysis, you can see how interesting and informative it is to find out the origin of the surname. Such an analysis can lead to a respectful and responsible attitude to family history. Most grandparents keep a rich history of their own origin, the origin of surnames and family traditions.

The family tree may well turn out to be a luxurious historical chronicle. Changing a surname is a rather serious step that can change the life and the person himself. If a decision is made to take a new one, make sure it goes well with the name and patronymic. The surname should be in harmony, sound and echo with him.

By the way, I would like to note one more interesting fact. Any family, for sure, has a unique history of the origin of the name.

It is interesting to find out who exactly gave the name - mother or father, or maybe both parents came to a unanimous opinion. What names sounded originally and why the choice fell on one specific name. It often happens that a name is given in connection with family history, carrying a completely unique meaning. Some parents name their child after a deceased close relative as a tribute to their memory.

The name of a worthy person with incredible human qualities will give the new carrier the best qualities and positive energy. A child bearing such a name is always surrounded by care, attention and love of relatives. Over time, the child acquires a deep understanding of family values and traditions. Family cohesion and mutual assistance are instilled from childhood. A family that values inner peace, harmony and comfort always has a close family relationship that is passed down from generation to generation.

The opposite situation - the name is given according to the principle: like - do not like. This situation testifies to the fragile connection of each of the parents with their families, but the other side of the situation creates a circumstance that instills in the child the freedom to choose a life path.

There is such a belief that a change of Surname or Name entails a change in fate. Indeed, from the point of view of metaphysics, each Surname has its own vibrations.

An important moment is who exactly named the child. If this was not a unanimous decision, then one of the parents on a subconscious level takes leadership over the upbringing of the child.

However, we are talking about beautiful surname x that the fair sex would like to have. Here are the top 10 most beautiful, forcing their carriers to walk with their heads held high:

Zhuravlev himself admits that he cannot “somewhat accurately estimate the total volume of onomastic units that fell into the field of view, and, consequently, the proportion of those surnames in it that were included in the final list.

From the current flow of surnames, only those that fell into the preliminary 800-unit list (further shortened to 500 surnames with the most reliable statistics) were selected. The very same list of 800 units (i.e., surnames) was compiled intuitively. All this reduces the significance of the results obtained, but nevertheless the list of the 500 most frequent Russian surnames is interesting. The number of all carriers of the first 500 most frequent Russian surnames recorded according to various sources is several hundred thousand. Obviously, this list will still be refined, because, according to A.F. Zhuravlev himself, the given statistics “can be recognized as having only the most preliminary character, but in any case better than the Unbegaun table” (meaning the appendix to the book "Russian surnames" with a list of the most frequent surnames of St. Petersburg in 1910).

I decided to bring these 500 names to familiarize site visitors with them. Two graphs with data for comparison according to the statistics of the same surnames in St. Petersburg in 1910 were excluded from the material of A.F. Zhuravlev (they were taken from the work of B.O. Unbegaun). In the final table, to the right of the surname, there is a number showing the relative occurrence of the surname. It is obtained by assigning the total absolute frequency of a given surname to the total absolute frequency of the most common surname Ivanov among Russians.

So, the list compiled by A.F. Zhuravlev. During the preparation for posting on the site, it turned out that there are three more surnames in it (they are given without a serial number). Use your browser's search function to find the name you need.
