Balls of thread and glue and balloons. Learning how to make a ball of thread with your own hands. With balls of thread

As a beautiful and unique home decoration, balls made of multi-colored threads are suitable. Balloons can be of various sizes and colors, they will easily amuse and interest both children and adults.

Making a ball with thread

  1. 1. Take glue (PVA is best), a long needle, scissors, balloons and scissors.
  2. 2. Before creating a ball of threads, inflate a balloon - you will get a frame. Tie the end of the balloon so that it does not release air.
  3. 3. Take a bottle of glue (you need it to be plastic, with thin walls), tie a thread to a needle and pierce the bottom of the bottle with a needle. Pull the needle through the bottle of glue, and then untie the thread from the needle. Start winding the thread soaked in glue around the ball.
  4. 4. Continue winding the ball until it is completely hidden under a layer of thread. On the side where the ball is tied with a thread, leave a small hole.
  5. 5. Once the outer layer of the balloon is ready, hang it by a string in the desired location. Take a needle, pierce the balloon and pull it out through the hole you left.

Party balloons

  1. 1. Before the manufacturing process, determine the future size of your ball. Inflate the balloon, place it so that it does not touch various objects. Coat the balloon with cream or petroleum jelly - so the threads will stick to the balloon worse.
  2. 2. Choose the threads of the color you like, soak them in glue (best in silicate) for an hour. You can take several threads of different colors.
  3. 3. As soon as the threads are soaked in glue, wrap them around the ball - do this “cross to cross” so that the threads intersect each other more often.
  4. 4. You can also use homemade glue - dilute three large spoons of starch in one glass of cool water. Then boil the mixture.
  5. 5. Wait until the balloon is dry and only then pierce the balloon. You have to get a strong outer frame, otherwise everything will go down the drain.

Decorative balls

  1. 1. Choose thin threads, the color of which matches the interior. For such threads, silicate glue is perfect. In the future, the finished ball can be decorated with various accessories.
  2. 2. Take a long needle and do the same with a can of glue, as in the first method, which is described in our article.
  3. 3. Inflate the balls and start wrapping them with a thread soaked in glue. Before this action, the balls can be smeared with petroleum jelly. Create a dense layer of threads around the balloon and leave everything to dry. Once the threads are dry, pierce the balloon and pull it out.
  4. 4. To decorate decorative balls, you can use sparkles, beads, rhinestones, cardboard flowers.

Balls of thread beautiful, airy and will decorate any interior. Moreover, this method can be used to make almost any three-dimensional object, for example, a lampshade, vases, animal figurines, etc.

We'll need :

Balloon;

PVA glue;

Dense cotton threads;

food film;

Petrolatum;

A plastic cup.

To balls turned out to be even and dense, you need to be very careful about the quality of PVA glue and threads. I used this glue from Tury - PVA glue Profi - I advise. Do not take PVA glue from the stationery department. Many of them do not adhere well to paper.

Threads are needed so that their composition is mainly made of cotton. This is a more porous material and it is better impregnated with glue. In no case do not use fully synthetic threads, they will not be well saturated with glue, and your ball will be soft and do not hold its shape well.

I bought knitting threads "Peony" of the St. Petersburg factory named after. Kirov. Their composition: 70% - cotton, 30% - viscose. They are dense, but quite voluminous and take a lot of glue (this is good for keeping the shape). The second batch I had was from the floss of the same plant. balls from the threads "Peony" I liked more.

We take an ordinary rubber ball, inflate it to the size we need. I had a conveyor, so I immediately inflated 6-7 pieces. Pull off the pimpka well so that the ball does not deflate during drying, otherwise the whole structure will warp :)

Wrap the inflated ball in cling film. I left the tail open, so that later it would be more convenient to blow off the balls. Yes, I didn’t pierce them, but blew them off, because if you do everything carefully, then the rubber ball can serve us more than once or twice :)

Then we take Vaseline and spread the ball wrapped in cling film. This will prevent the threads from sticking to the ball and not damaging their shape. Yes, it’s vaseline in the photo :) I took pictures in the process, so my hands were dirty, the camera in my hands was shaking and jumping :)

Now the important point. How to prepare a thread for wrapping. So that the thread does not get tangled and is not too wet from the glue, it must be passed through a glass of glue. Creating the first ball of thread, I put the threads in a bowl of glue, that is, I simply dipped them there. The threads were too wet, constantly tangled and folded into knots. And, of course, everything around was in glue :) There was more glue on my hands than on threads :) So I took a plastic disposable cup, with an awl on both sides (closer to the bottom, but not quite low) made two holes and passed through them thread. Then I poured PVA glue to cover the thread. The photo shows how the thread passes through the glass. Such a system allows the thread not to get tangled, to absorb glue as much as necessary. The ball itself was placed in a large mug so that it does not jump around the table :)

I just dragged the thread through a glass of glue, gradually wrapping it around the ball.

Here is such a design. An important element is a good series or movie :)

The ball is wrapped. Wrap evenly without leaving large holes.

I hung all the blanks in the bathroom to dry. I dried all night, although you can remove it earlier - after 3-4 hours.

After the final drying, I blew off the rubber ball and pulled it out along with the film. These are the thread cocoons turned out.

Hollow balls of thread look unusual and very beautiful. Today we will tell you how to make them and offer some ideas for making Christmas accessories using this decoration.

Balls of thread can be used as an independent decoration for the Christmas tree, turn them into a sparkling garland, build a New Year's character from them, and much more. So arm yourself with threads, and then your imagination will do everything for you.

What will we need?

  • threads of any color and thickness (fluffy should not be taken)
  • Balloons
  • PVA glue
  • starch

Progress

Earlier we told you how to make a lampshade from threads. The technique for making these balls will be similar.

The main difference is that you do not need to inflate the balloons too much. Make them very small - the size of a fist. Inflate as many balloons as you need. And tie them somewhere so that it is convenient to wrap and dry the future craft.

In a bowl, mix one and a half cups of glue with a half cup of starch and a quarter cup of water. We dip the thread into a bowl and wind it around the ball in random order.

You can pre-lubricate the balloon with Vaseline to make it easier to separate it from the thread. However, you can do without it.

When the glue dries and the threads harden, you just need to pierce the ball with a needle and carefully pull it out through the hole.

Make as many balloons as you need to make the desired accessories. You can use them in different ways.

Balls of thread for the Christmas tree

This area of application is the most obvious, but no less significant.

Just attach the loops to your balls and decorate the Christmas tree with them. Additionally, various beads can be strung during winding. Before drying, the balls can be generously sprinkled with dry sparkles.

The thinner the threads, the more beautiful the jewelry. Regular sewing thread will work too.

Christmas tree from balls

We have already told you what beautiful compositions can be made from various Christmas balls. In any of the techniques described, you can use not only standard ready-made balls, but also homemade balls of thread and glue. For example, you can collect a Christmas tree from them. If not all, then at least part of it.

When making such Christmas decorations, it is better to use balls made from thicker threads - they are stronger.

New Year's interior decoration

Despite the obvious simplicity of the idea, the effect is simply amazing!

Make several balls of different sizes and simply place them on the windowsill. Scatter between them pieces of tinsel, various stars, gold ribbons. Place a few simple candles nearby (in this case, take precautions) or arrange a garland (less fire hazard, but still be careful). Turn off the lights and turn on the lights - the house will be filled with magic!

balloon snowman

And even your favorite New Year's character in this technique turns out to be somehow especially beautiful.

Fasten the balls with glue, and the hands need to be done separately. To do this, we need a thin wire and red threads. Fold the wire in the form of mittens, coat them with glue and wrap them tightly with thread.

Ready-made snowmen can be decorated with knitted hats, beads and other accessories.

Garland with balls of thread

One of the most beautiful accessories that can be made from these balloons.

Just be sure to check the garland for serviceability. In addition, it must be of high quality, and best of all - with additional protection against heating. Be careful not to overheat the bulbs. If you doubt that your garland meets all safety requirements, it is better to refuse this idea.

To make a similar garland with your own hands, you just need to push the threads a little, put the light bulb in and move the threads back. The main thing is that the light bulb does not come into contact with the threads.

Such a garland looks very beautiful on the Christmas tree, and on the wall, and on the windowsill.

Hanging decoration

Balls of thread can simply be hung from the ceiling.

If you don't feel like putting in the extra effort, just hang all your balloons over a table or door. It looks very unusual and impressive, adds comfort to the house.

Choose any of the proposed ideas or come up with something of your own. This Christmas decoration can be used in dozens of different accessories. And each will be beautiful in its own way.

This year, one of the most popular crafts were those that use the method of thread cocoons, that is, crafts made from thread and glue.

So Tatyana Tkachenko decided to return to this method again. To fix this material, and at the same time to see its unlimited possibilities and all the secrets of work and material selection.

Crafts from threads and glue, tips and secrets

Although the simplest and most common crafts made of thread and glue are balls, this method can be used to make not only them. I suggest you admire the works that can be done using the method of thread cocoons.

Admire this beauty, and only then we will move on to a master class in which Tatyana will reveal absolutely all the secrets of making crafts from threads and glue with her own hands. Do you agree?

Some subtleties in the manufacture of crafts from threads and glue

At the competition, as you probably noticed, there were balls of thread, each of the participants made them in their own way. Of course, there were operations that cannot be bypassed, but each of them has its own trick. That's what I wanted to talk to you in this article.

So, what do we need to make balls of thread and glue:

1. Threads.

But there is a little trick here too.

The threads should be loose so that they can be easily “glued”, i.e. absorbed the glue.

This is a very important condition.

Dense, silky, tightly twisted threads are poorly impregnated with glue.

So thread or yarn is an important factor for successful work and high-quality results.

2. Glue.

This is the second factor affecting the quality of work.

This glue is good, but if it is very thick, then it should be diluted with water in the proportion: 1 part water to 3 parts glue.

There are options when needlewomen replaced PVA glue with regular stationery glue and the result was no worse.

You can make another version of the glue.
To do this, you will need PVA glue, cornstarch and water. Take a bowl, pour 1.5 cups of PVA glue into it, gradually add 1/2 cup of starch and 1/4 cup of water and stir.

The proportion of glue, starch and water can be different depending on the density of the PVA glue. The mixture should be quite liquid (liquid sour cream) so that the threads are well saturated with it.

3. Ball.

At the heart of most crafts made of thread and glue is a ball. So take a balloon. But don't make it too big. Experienced needlewomen recommend a ball diameter of no more than 15 cm, and for small Christmas or Christmas balls, you can take a fingertip and thus get a ball with a diameter of 6-8 cm.

We will also need: scissors, a Gypsy needle, petroleum jelly or cheap fat cream, a bowl.

Master class "Crafts from threads and glue with your own hands"

Here, too, not everything is simple. Do you think that you can just take and wrap the ball with thread? Not! There are several options for preparing threads for making thread cocoons. Let's look at all the options.

Option 1. Threads can be soaked in a bowl, especially woolen ones, and then wound around a ball.

Unfortunately, this method has many disadvantages. You will need to unwind the threads and carefully place them in a bowl. I assure you, no matter how carefully you put them in the dishes, you have a chance that the threads will get tangled.

Cut the thread into short pieces? It is possible, but this also leads to inconvenience.

Let's consider another way. I just want to clarify that the threads are soaked only in PVA or in PVA glue diluted with water.

Option 2. We pass the thread through the bottle. To do this, we take a “Gypsy” needle, thread a thread into the eye and pierce a plastic bottle with glue with this needle. We do it close to the bottom. Glue can be either PVA or clerical. And we put the threads in a jar.

Option 3. Use a Kinder Surprise Egg. To do this, use a red-hot "Gypsy" needle to make two holes in the egg, from the ends. Pour glue into the egg, close it and stretch the thread all with the same needle. Passing through the egg, the thread will be smeared with glue. Any glue, either PVA or clerical.

After you have chosen one of the options for preparing threads, we proceed to the process of making thread cocoons:

Inflate the balloon to the required size (diameter);
lubricate the ball with petroleum jelly or oil, or cream;
tie the thread to the base or glue it with tape;
we wind the threads so that there is a sufficiently “thick” layer.

The ball after drying should keep its shape;
dry the ball, at least a night, and better, as needlewomen advise 1-2 days;
when the glue is thoroughly hardened, gently pierce the ball with a needle;
carefully remove the ball, being careful not to damage the threads;
decorate the ball with sequins, rhinestones, sparkles, tinsel, etc.

I hope that I have described the main stages, but who, if he wants, can supplement my article with his experience. But how to make a flower out of a thread ball? I am sure that the photo below fully answers this question.

I think that by March 8 it is worth making a bouquet of tulips using the thread cocoon method. This craft made of threads and glue will look just great and will please the one to whom you want to give such a bouquet.

From ordinary threads, you can make many different crafts, and not only those that will gather dust on the shelf, but also useful gizmos. For example, it can be a doll, bracelet, flower, slippers, lampshade. Probably the simplest and most common craft are balls of thread. The tutorial in this article will be about how to make them with glue.

Materials for making a ball

Before making a ball of thread, consider what we need. All or many materials are likely to be found in every home. If something is not available, you can always buy it. Thread balls are good because they need the simplest and most inexpensive materials.

- Threads. In principle, any will do: for sewing, wool, floss. Someone even manages to make such a ball of twine or wire. However, when choosing a material as a winding, several nuances must be taken into account. Different threads absorb glue in their own way. With some, the ball will dry faster, while with others it will be slower. It is also worth considering that the frame made of thin threads will not be so strong, it can even be washed somewhere if you handle it carelessly. The craft is most effective if you make a ball of threads of different thicknesses, textures and colors. Usually, for the manufacture of such crafts, yarn of the “iris” type is taken.

- Balloon. Also suitable for any size, color and shape. But since we will be making a balloon, then, of course, it is better to give preference to a round balloon, the diameter of which, when inflated, is 10-15 centimeters. These dimensions are the easiest to work with. If you plan to make miniature balls, then even fingertips, which can be purchased at any pharmacy, will do.

- Glue. Again, any glue is suitable: pencil, stationery, construction. But the latter turns yellow after drying, and the former is not so convenient in our case. The best option would be stationery glue. It comes in two types: silicate and PVA. Both suit us. Both become transparent after drying. But PVA glue is not recommended to be used in its pure form, since the design may not be as strong. Usually a mixture is prepared from glue, water (prevents the appearance of white marks on the threads) and sugar (gives the ball more rigidity). For 100 milliliters of glue, two tablespoons of water and 14 teaspoons of sugar are enough.

Instead of glue, you can prepare a starch paste according to the following scheme. In a saucepan, mix 200 milliliters of cold water and 3 teaspoons of starch, bring to a boil. After cooling, you can use.

- Vaseline, sunflower oil or fat cream. Before you make a ball of thread, you need to lubricate it with something so that after the glue dries, it can be freely removed and not spoil the craft.

- Needle quite thick and long. You will need to pierce a bottle of glue.

- Scissors. Useful for cutting threads and a tail from a ball.

- Gloves and apron. You can do without them if you act very carefully.

- Newspaper. It is better to lay it on the table on which we will make, so as not to stain it.

- Saucer or glass. If the jar of glue is not stable enough, you can put it in something.

- Details for decorating the ball. To do this, you can use anything: ribbons, sparkles, rhinestones, semolina, beads.

So, now let's go directly to how to make a ball of thread.

Preparing the threads for work

There are two options for how to do this. Everyone chooses the one that is most convenient for him.

1. A skein of threads can be placed in a container with glue so that they are well saturated.

2. Thread the needle and make a through hole at the very bottom of the glue bottle. Glue can be poured into a plastic cup or into an egg from Kinder Surprise and pierced already. Then we remove the needle to the side. Threads in this way, passing through the bottle, will be saturated with glue. By the way, the holes need to be made a little larger than the diameter of the yarn, otherwise the threads at the exit will be without glue.

We prepare the ball

The balloon must be inflated to the desired size so that it is not too big, but dense enough. Then we tightly tie the tail from the ball into a knot, so that it does not untie in the process. Then the entire ball must be lubricated with oil, petroleum jelly or cream with a brush or cotton pad. This can be done with your hands if you are not afraid to get dirty.

Wrap the ball with thread

If you are right-handed, then take the ball in your left hand so that it is convenient for you to press the tip of the thread against the balloon, and start winding the threads with your other hand. Make sure they are not dry. It is recommended to wind the threads randomly to get an interesting pattern, but you can stick to a certain pattern if you have already come up with a pattern for the cobweb. Although it is certainly difficult to do so.

The more yarn you wind, the stronger the construction will be. If you want to get openwork and balloons from threads and glue, then the winding should not be so intense. However, too little yarn will not be enough for our craft to keep its shape during operation. In general, you need to find some kind of middle ground.

If you plan to attach something to the ball to hang it on, such as a ribbon, then it is best to do this in the middle of the winding. The ends can be smeared with glue and covered with the main thread several times to keep everything.

When the winding is finished, the end of the thread must be tied in a knot or simply generously coat this place with glue.

If you doubt that the ball of thread will be strong enough, you can additionally coat it with glue using a large brush or sponge.

We dry the product

Drying usually takes one to two days. It depends on the quantity and quality of thread and glue that are used. It is most convenient to dry the ball in a suspended state. Tie a long enough thread to the tail and hang the ball where it will not touch anything.

You can just leave the ball on the newspaper, but then you have to turn it over periodically, and drying will take much longer.

Extracting the ball

When the threads are completely dry from the glue, you can begin to remove the balloon. If it sticks, it must be carefully peeled off with your fingers, you can use a pencil with an eraser on the end.

There are two ways to pull out the ball.

  1. Untie or cut off the tail and slowly deflate the balloon.
  2. Pierce the balloon in several places, it will deflate itself.

If after that the thread ball is deformed, then it can then be given its original shape.

We decorate crafts

If you are completely satisfied with the appearance of the received craft, you can skip this paragraph. However, do-it-yourself balls of thread can be transformed in such a way that you get a real interior decoration that the designer himself would make.

For decoration, various details are suitable, for example:

Sequins for nails;

Beads or beads;

Ribbons, ribbons;

Bows;

Coffee beans and more.

The ball will become much more festive and stronger if sprinkled with glitter hairspray. The effect of transfusion in the light can be achieved in another way. Coat the ball with glue again and sprinkle with sparkles, leave to dry completely.

To attach small parts, it will be convenient to use a glue gun. If it doesn't exist, don't worry. This can be done with glue and a thin brush or cotton swab.

What can be made from a thread ball

A composition of several balls looks great. You can simply lay them out on the table in a beautiful dish or make a garland out of them.

If you wrap the balloon only halfway, you get a beautiful bowl. You can make a snowman by gluing one ball to another, a chicken or another animal.

If you do not wait for the glue to dry, cut the thread ball to the middle several times and bend the edges, you will get elegant openwork flowers. "Petals" can be decorated with ribbons or braid.

You can make other crafts from a thread ball if you turn on a little imagination.

Now you know how to make a ball of thread, which will be a wonderful interior decoration or a great present for friends or loved ones for the New Year. Such a craft is just a godsend when you want to please many people, but financially you are very limited. Even children can make such balls, and everyone will enjoy the process: both adults and kids.
