Tracksuit fabric: what to choose. How it is done, how it works, how it works

The main requirement for sportswear is the convenience and comfort of its use. A little earlier, almost all sports suits were considered such comfortable clothes. However, now that store shelves are simply overflowing with sports items made from a wide variety of materials, the choice of product must be approached wisely.

First, you need to understand that there are only two types of materials for the manufacture of sportswear:

Artificial include:

  • Acrylic
  • Microfiber
  • Nylon
  • Elastane
  • Spandex
  • Antibacterial fiber

Natural materials include:

  • Canvas

In this case, the emphasis will be on natural fabrics.

When sewing sports suits from natural fabrics, cotton is most often used. It has a large number of advantages, which include: resistance to fading, great strength, hypoallergenicity, high levels of moisture permeability and air permeability. On the other hand, cotton does not have the ability to control heat and moisture exchange. Over time, cotton products will stretch out and lose all attractiveness.

The next material is canvas. Canvas is a fabric made from fibers of the same cotton. One of its main characteristics is density. Elements of sportswear, sewn from canvas, have only one advantage: hygiene, wear resistance, wind resistance. A canvas tracksuit will retain its original appearance for a long time without stretching or fading in the sun.

Wool is often used as a fabric for sewing sportswear. First of all, it is good in compliance with all sanitary requirements for this type of product. And its main drawback is the difficulty of leaving.

In its pure form, silk is never used to tailor a tracksuit. But it is quite often added to other materials, which increases the strength, durability and attractiveness of the finished product.

With regard to artificial fabrics, it should be noted that all such materials have high elasticity. This has a positive effect on the durability of the suit and its comfort. However, in some cases, artificial material can cause an allergic reaction.

A sports suit is a comfortable and practical thing, which has become familiar and for many an indispensable component of everyday wardrobe. A variety of models, materials and originality of design allow using a tracksuit not only during training, it will come in handy at a picnic or while doing housework. An unusually wide range of sports suits for children and adults is constantly updated with new modern models.

If you are going to purchase a tracksuit for yourself or someone from your family members, you should not only decide on the color scheme and style, but also learn as much as possible about the material from which the thing is made and its features.

A traditional tracksuit is a set of pants, usually called pants, and jackets. Some models involve the separate sale of components, but the sellers themselves, it must be admitted, rarely offer such a service. The length of the jacket and sweatpants can be very different, the suit can consist of a jacket, shorts, capri pants or full length trousers. Tracksuits are made from a wide variety of fabrics, which for the most part can be divided into two main categories: natural and synthetic.

Natural fabrics

They, in turn, are divided into the following types:

  • Cotton: this fabric can be one hundred percent or half of natural cotton. Cotton is perfect for summer tracksuits, lightweight and breathable.

  • Viscose: Traditionally, viscose is classified as a natural fiber, but, in fact, it is a synthetic fiber. Viscose is soft and flexible, but such a fabric has a number of disadvantages: it does not absorb moisture well enough, it wrinkles a lot and tears easily.

Synthetic fabrics

The most popular representatives of synthetic materials are the following:

  • Polyester: this fabric is quite wearable and practical, it can be washed well both by hands and in a machine, practically does not tear.

  • Spandex, also known as Lycra, is a spandex fiber made from 85% polyurethane. Spadex stretches very well, mainly used for sewing tight-fitting models.
  • Acetate: Acetate fiber is composed of cellulose. Not the most practical and pleasant material for the body.

  • Viscose: here you can only add that outwardly this fabric is very similar to silk, but much cheaper due to its synthetic nature.

Modern technologies for the production of fabrics are aimed at developing new types of fibers that allow the fabric to be maximally adapted to the needs of athletes and the requirements of practicality and comfort. Today on sale you can find sports suits with thermal protection, sets of waterproof fabrics, from materials with increased moisture absorption and so on.

How to choose the perfect tracksuit

The choice of a tracksuit is primarily due to the main purpose of its use. If you consider this thing not as sports equipment, but as extremely comfortable clothes for the home, then the choice is best to stop on models made of cotton. For those who are actively involved in sports, it is better to choose suits made from modern synthetic fabrics, durable and elastic. For outdoor sports, specially designed models made from waterproof fabrics are ideal, which, in addition to being protected from rain, also provide good ventilation.

Choosing a suit design is a purely personal matter, since the modern assortment offers the widest variety of styles and colors. The feeling of complete comfort is a decisive factor in choosing a tracksuit, even if the most fashionable and modern tracksuit is too tight for you, restricts movement, restricts breathing, and so on, immediately put it back on the shelf in the store and look for what you will feel in convenient and easy.

Tracksuits as everyday clothes are often chosen by women with an imperfect figure, whether it is right or not, it is up to stylists to decide, but, for example, for pregnant women, a tracksuit is an indispensable thing, loose fit and soft fabrics do not hinder movement, special models for expectant mothers, as a rule , have a wide elastic support belt.

A few years ago, velor tracksuits experienced a real boom, all fashion-conscious ladies, from Hollywood divas in the person of Eva Longoria and Sarah Jessica Parker to fashionistas of the "local spill" sported velor tracksuits. Today, the velor tracksuit has certainly surrendered its trendy positions, but many women are in no hurry to part with this comfortable and practical thing.

Velor tracksuit: how, with what and where

Everyone knows that a tracksuit is an everyday thing, but some ladies try to present it as an elegant weekend set, accompanying a tracksuit with model high-heeled shoes and expressive jewelry ... Such combinations look extremely ridiculous, if not tasteless. Low-cut shoes and minimal day-to-day jewelry (if needed) are all you need to make your tracksuit look stylish. Soft velor gives a feeling of comfort and coziness, in such a tracksuit it is quite possible to take a friend at home, run to the nearest supermarket to shop or walk your favorite dog in the morning.

Even if you just adore your velor suit , it is strongly not recommended to wear it on a date or in a restaurant, even if your old friends and close people will be present there. Whether it's a cheap suit or the latest in Juicy Couture's velor "masterpiece," the tracksuit is designed for either sports or home wear.

However, you should not take a tracksuit as a thing that does not require a stylistic approach. Accompanying the velor set with modern sneakers or comfortable flip-flops (in summer), you may well be able to look stylish and harmonious even in the most casual and prosaic setting.

When choosing sportswear, you need to pay attention to the fabric, cut features, the presence of special inserts made of mesh material and other parameters. Let's take everything in order.

Fabric and special technology

Previously, cotton was recognized as the best fabric for sportswear. Now it is also used in production, but, as a rule, in combination with polyester.

The fact is that cotton quickly gets wet from sweat and retains moisture on the surface of the fibers, so you can catch a cold after an intense workout.

16 times less water droplets are retained on the surface of polyester fibers (PE, PL, Polyester), so synthetic clothing dries faster. Elastane (EL, Elastane, Spandex) provides good breathability, stain resistance and fade resistance.

Polyester and elastane leggings

Also, in the production of sportswear, microfibre polyamide (PA) is used, also known as Meryl or Tactel. This fabric does not stick to the body and is breathable.

Sportswear often uses a two-layer fabric structure. They take two different synthetic threads (for example, polyester and elastane or cotton and polyester) and create a special structure when the weave is thicker inside the fabric and thinner outside. Due to this, moisture is removed from the body, removed to the surface, evenly distributed over it and evaporates quickly.

Well-known brands are constantly developing new ones, but their essence, as a rule, is not disclosed. Manufacturers limit themselves to mentioning functions and do not go into details. Here are some examples:

  • Climacool - the fabric brings moisture and heat to the surface, provides micro-ventilation.
  • Climalite is a blend of polyester and elastane, a lightweight, breathable fabric that wicks moisture away from the skin. In such clothes it is really cool, it dries quickly.

Climalite Tee
  • Quik Cotton is a double weave cotton and polyester fabric. The percentage can vary. For example, 63% cotton and 37% polyester.
  • Speedwick is a sweat-wicking synthetic fabric made from polyester and elastane. Feels like cotton.

Items created with Speedwick technology
  • ActivChill is Reebok's pentagon-shaped weave technology. The fabric is breathable and provides good ventilation.

Moreover, sportswear made from synthetic fabrics is very practical. After many washes, T-shirts, leggings and shorts do not lose their shape and color, they do not need to be ironed. If you train often - every other day or every day, this will be a big advantage.

Style and compression

Previously, I associated sportswear with rather spacious things: stretched T-shirts and wide pants that do not press anywhere or press. Now the views on this issue have changed.

Loose clothing is great for the home, but when you exercise, the flapping sails around you will get in the way. This has a bad effect on aerodynamic properties and interferes with stretching. And if, for example, you roll your body on a spiked massage roller, the edges of the T-shirt roll up under it and this is very annoying.

Choose clothes that are snug but not tight. If you choose synthetic fabrics, you don't have to worry that a wet shirt will stick to your body and get in the way.

In addition to special fabrics and technologies, mesh inserts are often used in sportswear: in the armpits, on the back, on the chest. The nets provide extra ventilation.

Compression clothing is suitable for intense exercise. She not only looks good, but also helps you cope with unusually hard workouts. Intensive running, strength exercises with heavy lifting, preparation for a competition, as well as a tendency to edema and varicose veins are all indications for the use of compression underwear.

Light uniform squeezing of the limbs helps the vessels withstand heavy loads. In addition, the compression garment reduces muscle pain after exercise and helps you recover faster.

Nevertheless, compression items should be left in case of unusual excessive loads. Constant wearing of such clothes reduces vascular tone.

Underwear and socks

Cyclists and track and field athletes should consider compression underwear. It has no seams, so you can avoid chafing and discomfort during your workouts. In addition, the compression panties evenly squeeze the muscles of the thighs and buttocks, reducing soreness after training and accelerating recovery.

The right sports top is especially important for women. During running and jumping, the ligaments of the chest stretch, so that it quickly loses its shape. Age, pregnancy and lactation do not spare your bust anyway, help him at least during sports.

Sports bras are made from the same synthetic materials as clothing, but they are usually much denser. So it is unlikely that you will be able to avoid underwear wet from sweat (especially under the shirt, so the moisture evaporates not so efficiently).

There are several options for sports bras: from an elastic fabric without cups and with a division into cups. The first option will simply press the bust against the ribcage and fix it. I like these bras, although they seem to have no breasts at all.

Sports bra

The second option - with cups - is suitable for girls with a large size.

For the top to support the chest well and not squeeze the shoulders, it should have fairly wide shoulder straps and a wide elastic band at the bottom. Supports well the chest of the model with T-shaped and V-shaped backs. Mesh inserts can improve breathability a bit, but still don't expect your bra to stay dry after an intense workout (that's my experience, maybe someone's wrong).

There are also special socks for sports. They differ from ordinary socks in materials and some cut features. Like clothing, sports socks are not made from 100% cotton, but either from a combination of cotton with polyamide or polyester, or polyester and elastane. This means that they better allow air to pass through and remove moisture, last longer and do not lose their shape.

Sports socks have a tighter elastic to keep them from slipping during workouts, and a thinner and flatter seam in the toes. To follow the shape of the leg, the socks are divided into right and left.

Features of sports shoes

The choice of footwear depends on the sport. If you are heading to the gym to work with a barbell and dumbbells, you should not take sneakers with a reinforced springy sole. It should be low (no more than 2–2.5 cm) and without noticeable thickening on the heel. It is also advisable to choose shoes with a corrugated (so that the sneakers do not slip) and flexible enough (so that the foot is comfortable) soles.

If you're looking for a running shoe, consider the springy, thicker soles. When choosing a running shoe, you need to pay attention to several parameters:

  • foot structure;
  • the surface on which you will run;
  • the intensity and type of running.

To determine the structural features of the foot (degree of pronation), conduct a test with a sheet of paper and water. Wet your foot and leave a wet print on the sheet.

Pronation degree

If you are over-pronated and / or overweight, consider a shoe with good cushioning and instep support. The latter will soften the impact of the foot on the ground while running and protect the knees from injury. But if you have neutral or hypopronation, you should not buy shoes with an instep support: the risk of twisting your foot increases.

The greater the weight of the athlete and the less prepared his ligaments and muscles, the more he needs foot support and cushioning. Modern running shoes use different materials for cushioning: gel, foam, plastic inserts.

A high heel reduces the risk of injury, however, the hard parts of it should not press on the foot or dig into the leg: all this is fraught with pain and calluses after training.

The front of your running shoe should be flexible. In some modern sneakers, it is made entirely of synthetic breathable fabric. It seems that you are running in socks with springy soles. It is very convenient.

Sneakers with soft toe

Other sneakers have stiffeners in the forefoot, but the upper is mostly made of mesh fabric, which is great for breathability.

Sneakers with mesh

Do not buy shoes back to back: there should be about 3 mm between the toe and the toe of the shoe. While running, the foot increases in size. And if your finger rests on the shoe, you can damage your nail.

When choosing shoes, you need to remember what kind of surface and what time of year you will be running. For summer jogging on tarmac, stadium or gym treadmills, sneakers with soft, thin soles and a fabric or mesh upper are suitable.

For trail running, such as forest paths, you need stiffer shoes with deeper tread to protect your foot. Off-road and trail running shoes have extra protection at the toe to keep you away from branches and sharp rocks, as well as deep tread and spikes.

Running shoes for fall, winter and spring are also heavier: the mesh upper is replaced by a denser, waterproof one.

Basic set for summer or gym

So, if you decide to practice outdoors in summer or early autumn, you will need a basic set of things for different weather:

If it's sunny and hot:

  • t-shirt and shorts made of synthetic breathable materials;
  • lightweight sneakers;
  • headdress;
  • sunglasses.

If it's raining and cool:

  • lightweight long-sleeved T-shirt;
  • shorts or leggings;
  • sneakers with waterproof upper;
  • a hat with a visor so that the rain does not interfere with seeing.

Basic set for spring and autumn

Running in light clothes is dangerous: you can catch a cold. Moreover, it should be borne in mind that after serious exertion, the immunity decreases slightly.

In warm weather, you can wear leggings, a long-sleeved T-shirt and a windbreaker. Sports windbreakers are sewn from a membrane fabric, thanks to which sweat does not accumulate under the jacket, but is brought to the surface. At the same time, the outer layer of the jacket is waterproof and keeps you warm. The hood will be a plus. If not, you need a light sports hat.

Thermal underwear is useful for late autumn and early spring. It is sewn from polypropylene or polyester, using a special weaving, due to which moisture is transferred from the surface of the body to the fabric. The seams of the thermal underwear are located outside, so you can not be afraid of abrasions.

Basic set for winter

The bottom layer is thermal underwear or synthetic sportswear that wicks moisture away from the body.

The upper layer is a jacket made of membrane fabric, which, thanks to micropores, allows water vapor to pass from the inside, but not drops of water from the outside. Vapors from the body penetrate through the first layer of clothing and come out to the surface as vapor.

This technology is used in the clothing of the famous Columbia brand. Omni-Tech branded jackets feature a waterproof and moisture-wicking membrane.

Also, the jacket may have additional ventilation in case the membrane cannot cope with the fumes. If you sweat a lot while exercising, consider this option.

There are several types of membrane jackets:

  • Single layer... The membrane is applied to the fabric and protected with a polyurethane coating. These jackets are suitable for spring, they are very light.
  • Double layer... In such jackets, the membrane is also applied to the fabric, but does not have a polyurethane protective coating. Instead, a mesh lining protects the membrane. These jackets will last longer.
  • Three-layer... In such jackets, the membrane is located between two layers of fabric: the outer layer and the lining. This is the most durable option.

One of the most famous membranes is. This material is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with a thin PU film and is highly waterproof. Clothes and shoes with this membrane are excellent for air permeability and moisture removal, but they are also quite expensive.

A more modern membrane is eVent. Together with a protective PU-layer, which reduces vapor permeability, an oil substance is used here, due to which the pores of the membrane conduct evaporation better. Pore-free membranes like Triple-Point and Sympatex are very good at protecting against precipitation, but rather poorly at removing body vapors at high humidity.

The ability of a jacket to wick away sweat is greatly influenced not only by the type of membrane, but also by what you wear under it.

Under jackets with a membrane, it is worth wearing clothes that wick away moisture: sportswear made of synthetic materials or thermal underwear.

If you put a thick cotton sweater down, it gets wet. Sweat will not be effectively transported to the surface of the jacket, and you will exercise in wet clothes.

Another well-known technology for winter clothing is Omni-Heat. These are the aluminum dots on the lining of the garment, which are easy to recognize for Columbia jackets. The aluminum dots retain body heat and the space between them prevents overheating.

Omni-Heat

Sports jacket labels sometimes indicate the temperature at which you will feel comfortable exercising. For example, here is a jacket for -10 ° C and an option for 0 ° C.

Additional attributes

Sports hats are made from a combination of wool with synthetic materials: polyester, acrylic, polypropylene.

Hats for warmer weather do not have additional insulation. They are lightweight and wick moisture well. For severe cold weather, it is better to take a hat with fleece insulation. Also, in frost and strong winds, a balaclava, a woolen mask that covers your face, may come in handy.

If you don't want to train with wet hair, consider a Windstopper beanie. It is a pore membrane applied to the lining fabric. It passes water well in a vapor state. In addition to the lining and membrane, these hats have a top layer that protects from wind and cold, but allows steam to pass through. As a result, you will not be left with wet hair, but at the same time your head will be warm.

An equally important attribute of winter training is gloves made of wool and synthetic materials. There are options with non-slip inserts and special material on the fingers for using smartphones.

That's all. What do you train in? Share your observations about comfortable sportswear in the comments.

Over the past 50 years, the world of light industry has undergone tremendous changes. Synthetic materials have replaced traditional cotton and linen. In fact,

You probably know this feeling - after an intense workout, take off your cotton T-shirt. She stuck and does not want to leave your hot body in any way. In this case, cotton often does not stand up and tears either along the seam or along the fabric.

Let me tell you a little about the technology for the production of synthetic fabric. All synthetic fabrics are made from petroleum. As a result of processing, it turns into polyester fibers. Then, a thread of the required thickness and section is created from the fibers. The process is somewhat similar to a meat grinder - the fiber is exposed to high pressure and forced through the section in the unit.

After obtaining all the necessary threads, the weaving process begins. Several types of threads are fed to the most complex machine, which weaves them in a special way, depending on the tasks of future clothes, and, if required, burns or presses functional and decorative elements.

Think the fabric is ready to be sent to the cutting shop? No, because we still have at least three technological processes ahead!

After the fabric is woven, it should be washed to remove any remaining fibers and cut threads. For this, a special washing apparatus is used, through which the fabric is rolled.

Sports fabric is therefore called sports fabric, which is specially designed for active sports. Its main features are moisture removal from the body and ventilation. Moisture wicking is due to a special impregnation, in RK Sport, we use a fabric impregnated with ClimaCool, this fabric perfectly manifests itself in business.

After impregnation, the fabric is ready for dyeing. The main activity of RK Sport is a sublimation, exclusive form, therefore most of the fabric in our warehouse is white.

There are three types of fabrics on the market: natural, synthetic, blended (a mixture of natural and synthetic threads). These fabrics differ in structure, density and functional characteristics.

Let's dwell on the four main fabrics used for sewing sportswear.

  1. False mesh.

Engineered mesh is the most popular fabric used in sportswear. Fully synthetic, made of polyester. Due to the technological features, it is easily sublimated (the fabric is dyed through with special paper. It is highly wear-resistant, the application does not fade or wash out. Specially created for athletes, the fabric removes moisture and provides optimal ventilation of the body. To improve the athletic properties of the product, the fabric is treated with a special impregnation ...

In addition, this fabric is hypoallergenic, which makes it no doubt suitable for children.

We use dummy mesh in various densities for football, hockey, basketball and volleyball uniforms.

  1. Elastic

Elastic, better known in the vastness of Russia as Adidas, is a dense elastic fabric, smooth on the outside, but reminiscent of fleece from the inside. The fabric is also suitable for sublimation. The fabric retains heat, which makes it suitable for use in the autumn-spring period. The company RK Sport produces from such fabric.

  1. Duspo

Lightweight "windproof" fabric, polyester composition. Formal tracksuits and shorts are made of such fabric. Such fabric is sometimes sometimes called "rustling", although a high-quality Duspo does not rustle.

It happens with and without impregnation. For comfortable wear, the products always come with a lining.

  1. Footer
    The only natural fabric on our list. The footer is 100% cotton, although sometimes suppliers have a polyester outer layer. There are two types of footer - "two-thread", ie, a fabric woven from two threads, and "three-thread", woven from three threads. The two-strand fabric is thinner, with a soft fleece-like lining, the two-strand fabric is thicker and denser, making it suitable for use in the cold season.
    Natural fabrics are not suitable for sublimation, so the pattern is applied in three ways - embroidery on fabrics, embroidery on overhead products (stripes, chevrons) and silk-screen printing. Our recommendation is embroidery on fabric, this application will not lose its presentation and will not interfere with use.
