How to make glitter from paper. And let the whole world shine! (dry glitters, master class). Gallery: matte varnish and glitter

There is not much time left before the New Year. It’s too early to buy a fresh Christmas tree, but now is the time to start creating a festive atmosphere in your home.

We all know very well that the main symbol of the New Year is the Christmas tree, which you can make with your own hands from various materials. You can decorate your apartment or holiday table with these Christmas trees. They can also be a wonderful souvenir gift for your loved ones, friends and work colleagues.

I would like to offer you another very interesting version of the New Year symbol - Christmas trees with glitter.

Glitter is a very interesting material for decorating crafts (especially New Year's). But usually they are used only partially - as decoration. We'll try to do it with you Christmas tree completely covered in glitter. We'll see what comes of it soon.

I would like to show you the master class on a more complex Christmas tree made of sparkles with a curved top.

To work you will need:

  • a cone made of polystyrene foam or floral foam,
  • some wire with a diameter of 3mm,
  • dry glitter,
  • PVA glue,
  • brush,
  • 2 or 3 ply napkins,
  • scissors,
  • building plaster (alabaster),
  • a cache-pot, a small jar or any other suitable container,
  • 2-3 skewers for shish kebab,
  • hot glue gun,
  • decor: decorations for the crown, ribbons, beads, etc.

First we need to prepare the trunk of our Christmas tree...

We saw off the skewers to the required length and fastened them together with hot glue. We dilute the building plaster with cool water to the consistency of thick sour cream and place it in a previously prepared container. We place our “trunk” exactly in the center and wait a couple of minutes until the plaster hardens completely.

We immediately decorate the trunk a little with ribbon.

Now time to work on the cone….

In order for the Christmas tree made of sparkles with a curved top to look like a single whole and there is no transition between the top of the cone and the wire, it must be done as follows...

At the top we attach 2-3 wires of the length we need, and on one of them we make a loop for future decoration. Immediately bend the crown evenly, symmetrically to the cone itself. Try to do it carefully right away.

Why am I fastening more than one wire... this way you’ll have to wrap it with napkins less, and the transition will be smoother. We distribute the wires evenly on the top of the cone, piercing it. If necessary, you can secure it with hot glue.

Carefully place the cone on the skewers, this will be much more convenient.

And now the most interesting thing, preparing a cone for our Christmas tree... This is my personal idea, born through experiments, so don’t judge strictly.

Cut the napkins into 2cm strips.

We wrap them around the top of the head, coating everything with PVA glue. It’s better to wrap them with dry cloths and then coat them with glue, otherwise they will tear.

At the junction, you can make several layers to achieve a smooth transition.

I also use a brush with PVA glue to smooth the napkins over the entire surface of the foam, including the bottom, so it will be better to apply glitter later.

We are waiting for the glue to dry.

Let's check the top of the head again, everything should be nice and even, this is the last chance to correct minor defects.

We dilute 1:1 water and PVA glue, generously flavor this mixture with dry glitter.

Let's mix!

Apply with a brush to the entire surface of the cone we have prepared.

We are waiting for the glue to dry. This is how it should turn out!

All that's left is to decorate a little and, voila, the glitter Christmas tree is ready...

As you can see, everything is not so complicated. Be sure to try to create an original one DIY glitter Christmas tree.

I was glad to help!

Today I want to talk to you about my latest scrapbook hobby - dry glitter. Its main difference from liquid glitter is that it produces a thicker, pleasant shine; the main thing is not to overdo it with such shiny elements in your work, and you will get a stunning decorative element! I want to tell you about how I use it.
When I first bought glitter on sale, I didn’t know why I did it or what to do with it :) Then there were several unsuccessful attempts to use it, and in the end I came up with the scheme that I still use today. I use special glitter glue from Martha Stewart for gluing. The jar is quite large, there is a brush on the inside of the lid, the glue itself is like very, very thick PVA.

So, let’s prepare everything for work in advance, so that later we don’t waste time searching for what we need. I will cover these deer cuttings with glitter.
I'll take two sheets of paper - I'll smear glue on one, transfer it to the other and sprinkle it with glitter. When I use glitter and embossing powder, I fold the sheet in half in advance that I will sprinkle it on, so that later it is convenient to return the excess back to the jar. We will also prepare, of course, the glue and the glitter itself. And an awl. An awl is convenient for transferring a figure coated with glue, as well as removing excess glue that gets into the small bends of a die-cut or chipboard.

Next, let's get to work. We carefully coat the figure with glue; I prefer to do all the operations one at a time in this case, so that the glue does not have time to dry, otherwise there may be areas where the glitter will not stick. Then we transfer the figurine to a prepared dry sheet and sprinkle it generously with glitter.

I recommend not pouring off the excess immediately, but drying it right away so that the maximum amount of glitter sticks and the shine is uniform. I harvest all the deer and put this sheet on the central heating radiator. You can dry it in the air, but the battery will significantly reduce the drying time, 15 minutes will be enough.

When everything is dry, shake off the excess, you can even tap lightly on the back of the figure. Previously, I stopped at this stage, but there was one point that made me very sad - if you touch the glitter, it remains on your hands and still crumbles a little. After some experimentation, I developed a small additional step for myself. It roughly doubles the processing time of the glitter die cut, but it's worth it.
Let's prepare the necessary tools. I allocated an unnecessary small plastic container for this. Pour some water and dissolve in it the same glue that was used to glue it. Glue from one brush will be enough. Stir thoroughly and coat our preparations. And again we dry it on the radiator.

As a result, we will have wonderful shiny cuttings! So elegant and somehow sophisticated. And most importantly, now these sparkles will not remain on your hands and drive everyone at home crazy! :)

And some of my work as an example using glitter:

One of the current fashion trends in the world of fashion and beauty is the use of glitter. Clothes, paper crafts, and nails are decorated with shiny elements.

If you approach the decoration of a product or manicure from a creative point of view, the result can be an original addition to a stylish image. And in order for the product to turn out flawless, you need to know the features of gluing glitter to various surfaces.

About fastening methods

Sequins or glitter can be glued to different surfaces using several different adhesives. Designers prefer one of the following methods:

  • Textile glue.
  • Hair fixation spray.
  • Manicure polish or gel.

Each of these options can be used individually or in combination with each other.

We use PVA

Knowing what glitter can be glued to, you need to choose the most successful option for a particular material. If you need to glue glitter onto fabric or paper using office glue, it is recommended to use transparent PVA. It will securely attach small decorative elements to the surface without changing their color.

The application technology is extremely simple:

  • Lay out the fabric or paper on a perfectly flat surface.
  • Apply transparent glue to the area that you plan to decorate with glitter.
  • Sprinkle glitter on the adhesive base.
  • We wait until it dries and once again apply glue to the area with glitter.

Transparent PVA glue holds glitter perfectly on fabric and paper. Designers often use this method when decorating outfits and crafts. If you need to decorate a dress or suit with sparkles for long-term wear, it is better to use textile adhesive.

We use textile glue

This version of the adhesive composition is ideal for creating a bright carnival outfit. Textile glue securely fixes the glitter to the surface, keeping the decor in place even after washing. You can purchase this adhesive solution at a craft supply store.

How to glue glitter to fabric using textile glue?

  • For reliable fastening, it is better to mix a small amount of glue with glitter.
  • Apply the finished mixture using a small spatula onto the fabric base.
  • Having spread the decor over the surface, wait for the glue to dry completely.
  • Once the glue has dried, you can use the product.

Glue on hairspray

If you need to quickly decorate a paper or fabric craft with glitter, you can use regular hairspray to fix the hairstyle. Every woman will have this product at her disposal, so she won’t have to spend money on purchasing a separate bottle. Designers recommend treating it with transparent stationery glue before gluing glitter onto thick fabric. For thin fabrics we use only hairspray.

For decoration, arrange the shiny elements in the desired order. From a distance of 50-70 cm, we treat the prepared surface with strong fixation varnish. It is important to choose a high quality product that dries quickly. If the varnish is of poor quality, there is a high probability that it will wet the fabric, but will not securely fix the glitter.

But no matter how high-quality the hairspray is, this method of gluing glitter to fabric is not durable. During washing, the adhesive will dissolve and the decorations will fall off.

Decorating your nails

Sequins today occupy a leading position in the creation of original, decorative products. Designers use shiny elements to decorate dresses, suits, and crafts. In the world of makeup and manicure, glitter is also popular.

In these cases, one of two options for sparkles is used:

  • Dry glitter.
  • Liquid.

Dry glitter is a bright, multi-colored powder that is applied to the nails on a damp layer of varnish or gel. A fixative is not applied over the glitter, although in some cases craftsmen fix the glitter with a finishing gel polish. Dry glitter comes in different shapes, colors and sizes. Some of them are applied individually using tweezers.

The second option is glitter already mixed with gel polish. This coating is applied to nails previously coated with a base gel. For reliable fixation, a finishing gel polish is applied on top of the decorated plate.

We use it for makeup

Every day, before leaving the house, women paint their lips, eyelids and eyelashes, creating a special look. But in most cases we do not use bright colors, remembering that the everyday look should be modest. For a festive event, you can deviate a little from the usual makeup option and decorate your eyelids with bright sparkles. How to do it right?

  • Prepare the skin by cleansing it with toner or lotion. Afterwards, the skin needs to be moisturized with the usual cream.
  • Apply makeup base to the lower and upper eyelids.
  • Next, apply powder and blend.
  • If you plan to make arrows, now is the time to start doing them. We use liquid eyeliner or a pencil to create arrows.
  • Finally, decorate the eyelids with glitter. It is better to apply them with a damp brush from the inner edge of the eye.
  • At the last stage, apply mascara to the eyelashes.

In custody

Shiny decorative elements are great for decorating fabrics and crafts. Glitter is also used to decorate nails and eyelids. In order to glue glitter onto paper, fabric, nails or any other surface, you need to know the nuances of the technology for attaching decorative elements to various materials. As practice shows, having once mastered this technique, subsequently everyone can easily decorate any product with bright sparkles.

Using tinsel

If you are seriously thinking about how to make glitter at home, we can recommend using sharp scissors and New Year's tinsel. You can buy packages of direct rain, as in the photo below, or you can use terry garlands, old decorations that no longer look good on the tree. You can use any shiny items.

Before you make small sparkles at home, you need to put a sheet of clean paper on the table, take a pack of even rain and hold it tightly in your left hand. Then, using scissors, retreating 1-2 mm from the edge, cut into small squares.

These little sparkles can be made in different colors. Chop golden scraps onto one piece of paper, silver scraps onto another, and if necessary, cut colored ones as well.

Using small glitter

Many girls use small glitter for manicure. The cut squares are mixed with varnish and spread on the nail plate. It can be done differently. First, a layer of varnish of the main color is applied, then glitter is sprinkled on the nails, and the excess is shaken off back onto a sheet of paper. Then a layer of colorless varnish is spread over the glitter so that the pieces do not fall off.

If you know how to make glitter at home, you can create your own Christmas tree decorations. These can be figurines of Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, cardboard crafts of animals, stars or bells. Any toy will look beautiful if you add sparkles cut from tinsel to its surface. It's easy to do. The finished toy is coated with PVA glue and sprinkled with glitter. Press down a little with your hand and shake off the excess back onto the table.

You can decorate attributes for the New Year's holiday - a crown for a princess, a kokoshnik for a girl in a Russian national costume, a headdress for the Snow Queen or the Snow Maiden.

Sequins made from multi-colored foil

From thin and crisp foil of different colors you can cut glitter into any shape. For example, we will tell the reader how to make heart-shaped glitter at home. You buy red foil, fold it in several layers and cut out a heart shape.

It turns out that there are many elements at once. Such details can be used for pasting, for example, “Valentines” for Valentine’s Day, designing a wedding album or Christmas decorations made of papier-mâché or cardboard. For boys, you can cut out small Christmas trees or blue cars from green foil.

Figured hole punchers

Nowadays there are special hole punchers on sale that punch holes of different shapes. You can buy a whole kit for cutting out different figures. If you don’t know how to make glitter at home, then purchasing such convenient devices will solve the problem in no time.

Shaped hole punches can also be used in making paper crafts. Children love to paste small parts made using these machines into appliques.

This is much more convenient than cutting out a figure by hand. For example, you are unlikely to be able to cut out stars evenly, but you can squeeze out a whole pack of them with a hole punch in a minute.

Simple hole punch

There is another good option for making glitter at home. This is cutting out beautiful even circles from multi-colored foil with a simple hole punch. The material is thin, so you can fold the sheets in several layers. It will be quite quick to cut into slices.

This shiny confetti can be used to decorate your Christmas tree decorations. To do this, take a plain or transparent ball and coat it with PVA glue. All that remains is to sprinkle it with shiny circles and hang it by a thread to dry.

You and your child can glue a garland of flags on a string and sprinkle each flag with glitter. After hanging it on the wall or under the ceiling, the flags will sparkle beautifully in the light of the lamps.

Shards of glass toys

If you have not yet decided how to make glitter at home, then we can offer an option tested by many Soviet women. Take an old Christmas tree toy, but always a glass one (you can always find a cracked or bruised one in a box of toys) and, putting it in a thick plastic bag, beat it into dust with a hammer. Then you can use such small sparkles when making papier-mâché toys.

How to make glitter from CD?

To make shiny colorful balls for your Christmas tree or to decorate your room, you can use old, unwanted CDs. They need to be carefully broken into small fragments; you can also break them with a hammer or use pliers.

Then each piece is smeared with glue and attached to the ball. The product reflects light rays well, as it has a mirror surface. If such a ball hangs on a tree branch, the lights of the garland will sparkle even brighter.

Salt sparkles

Finally, we'll look at how to make your own glitter from salt crystals. For this work you will need a kilogram of coarse table salt. It is advisable to choose a salt so that the crystals are shiny. To color the salt in different colors, you can either use simple watercolor paints or buy food coloring. You can also use natural dyes by taking beetroot or carrot juice, using brilliant green or potassium permanganate.

For each color, select a bag or any other container. Dishes can become stained with salt, so it is best to buy thick bags.

Dyes are dissolved in water, watercolors are also prepared by adding water. Then a small amount of coloring liquid is poured into the bag and the bag is shaken thoroughly so that all the salt crystals are colored. Then the bag is opened to allow air access and the salt to dry. After complete drying, the salt can be poured into containers convenient for crafts and used to decorate New Year's toys for the holiday.

In the article, we talked in detail about all the methods for making glitter at home. It’s not difficult to do it yourself, the main thing is to want it. Good luck!

Currently, manicure can be considered one of the areas of art, the works of which are sometimes simply brilliant in the literal and figurative sense. If you have free time and effort, any fashionista can make beautiful nails with glitter.

What are the advantages of nail designs with shimmering elements?

  1. This manicure can be used for any festive event (birthday, bright party, wedding, dinner party, etc.), as well as for everyday life, with the difference that in the second version there should be fewer shiny elements.
  2. Shimmering nail art is distinguished by its versatility, because it can be used on nails of any length and shape, and in all cases it will look luxurious.
  3. Shiny manicure is characterized by many variations.
  4. Even a beginner can master the technology of decorating nails with such glitter.

How to do a glitter manicure at home

No matter what fashion dictates, most women continue to love shiny elements and decorate their image with them. Nails are no exception. Ladies enjoy using sparkling elements in their manicure.

Before performing brilliant nail art, your nails need to be prepared, namely: a hygienic unedged manicure. Use a special orange wood stick to push back the cuticle, and trim the tips of the nail plates with a nail file.

Advice. If your nails have been in a bath that softens the cuticles, they should not be filed, otherwise they will begin to peel off severely.

Using glitter for a sparkly design

Shimmering nail art can be created using ready-made shiny varnishes or glitter with a crumbly structure. The use of ready-made varnishes rarely raises additional questions. But dry shimmering particles can be applied in different ways.

Glitter is a sparkle that is specially created for shimmering manicure. The size of glitter can vary from fine to coarse.

Manicure with glitter is done in the following sequence:

  1. A colorless base is applied to the prepared nails, and then the selected colored varnish (you can get by with just the base).
  2. The next step is to use glitter. There are several ways to apply glitter to the nail plate:
    • Nails with a non-dried base can be dipped directly into a box of glitter, and then using a brush or cotton swab dipped in nail polish thinner, the residue should be removed from the skin around the nail plate. Only the tips of your nails can be placed in a jar with glitter. This will result in a luxurious version of the French jacket;
    • A dry cosmetic brush can be dipped into glitter, and then the glitter can be sprinkled directly onto undried varnish or a colorless base. This method is more accurate and economical compared to the previous one;
    • Dip the manicure brush first into a transparent base, and then into a container with glitter and cover the nail plate with the glitter mixture. Thus, you can create a transparent manicure with an iridescent effect;
    • A small amount of varnish can be mixed with glitter, and only then applied to the nails. It should be noted that this option is recommended more for gel polish, which hardens under the influence of a lamp. Regular polishes dry too quickly, making it nearly impossible to mix them with shimmer powder outdoors.
  3. After applying the shimmering powder, the nails must be covered with a fixing base.

Manicure with confetti

Confetti in manicure are large-sized sparkles, mostly round in shape. Their use makes the nail design original and festive, although a manicure using confetti is quite acceptable in everyday life.

Creating such nail art is absolutely easy. It works like this:

Nail art with gel polish

Before you start working with gel polish, you need to do the following:

  • turn on the ultraviolet lamp;
  • open the package with dry glitter, because if you don’t do this right away, you may accidentally damage the coating in the future;
  • Prepare brushes for applying glitter and cotton pads for cleaning brushes.

A shiny manicure using gel polish is performed in the following sequence.

  1. The surface of the nail plate is sanded with a special finely dispersed stone, which is necessary for a stronger adhesion of the gel.
  2. Nails are wiped with nail polish remover; this is necessary to degrease them.
  3. The next step is to apply a thin layer of base coat.
  4. After the base has completely dried, varnish is applied directly to the nails in 2-3 layers.
  5. If for a shimmering manicure you do not use ready-made shiny varnish, but dry glitter, then one of the options described above is used to apply it.
  6. After applying glitter, the nails should be covered with colorless varnish and dried under a lamp.

Important! A shiny manicure with gel polish should first be done on four fingers - from the little finger to the index finger, and then only on the thumb. Otherwise (if you simultaneously apply gel polish and glitter to your entire hand), while drying under the lamp, the gel on your thumb will flow to one side.

How to make glitter polish yourself: instructions and step-by-step photos

The easiest way is to apply ready-made polish with shimmering particles on your nails. But sometimes it happens that the exact shiny shade that you would like to use in a manicure is not on sale. In this case, you can make the varnish yourself.

You need to purchase glitter of the desired color and size (you can experiment and use particles of different shapes and shades). Pour the shiny powder into a bottle with a colorless base through an improvised paper funnel and mix thoroughly with a wooden stick (you can use a toothpick). The varnish is ready for use.

Modern fashionistas are constantly striving to diversify their nail design, and even already elegant nail art with iridescent particles is also being improved all the time.

Gradient design

The transition from one shade to another is always interesting, because it gives the manicure a certain mystery. And glitter based on this enhances this effect.

The blue tint gives the design tenderness, and the pink one softens it. The combination of pink and purple makes the manicure mysterious. Sequins look great in contrasting color transitions.

Stylish French

By covering not the entire surface of the nail plate, but only its tip, with shimmering pollen, it is easy to create a kind of jacket that can have clear or blurred boundaries.

Gallery: shiny French

The blurred boundaries of the French coat soften the nail design. The French coat with glitter can be made with clear boundaries. A bright rainbow look is given to the nails by a multi-colored jacket. The glitter in this version is applied diagonally

Lunar option

Glitter can only be used to decorate the nail holes. This will give the manicure femininity and at the same time luxury.

Lunar manicure can be done with blurred boundaries. Shiny nail holes highlight the color of the varnish. Confetti effectively shapes the nail hole in a nude manicure.

And one warrior in the field

The nail design looks original and unconventional when only one nail on the hand is decorated with glitter. It is he who will attract attention.

Matte manicure

Shiny elements will look especially bright on a matte base. In this case, shimmering elements will favorably emphasize the depth of the color of the varnish and make the manicure luxurious.

The combination of lilac shade and gold sparkles is often used by manicurists.
An ornament made of gold confetti is a great option for special occasions. Gold sparkles look harmonious with black varnish

Glitter designs

Using glitter of different colors, shapes and sizes, you can create unique patterns on your nails. To do this, you need to apply a little imagination, and then the design gallery will be replenished with countless options.
