For a real man, Alan Flasser. A guide to men's clothing styles. "Gentleman. A guide to style and fashion for men "

A few decades ago, men's fashion consisted of several styles and varieties of outfits, and today it is in no way inferior to women's fashion in variety and alternative trends. In addition to the undying classics and everyday style, men are offered a lot of new developments by designers in the form of all kinds of styles.

Style is a three-dimensional concept that implies a complex image of a man, consisting of personal preferences, age, lifestyle, profession, functionality and relevance. To make the style harmonious, all the details and little things are selected taking into account all these parameters, from clothes to accessories.

Each style already known to men for a long time today has several branches and subspecies thanks to new ideas and developments from designers, stylists and fashion designers. These can be restrained and laconic options, or they can be very eccentric and outrageous styles for fashionistas and dandies. It remains only to get acquainted with the features of each style and choose your own version.

There are several styles of men's clothing, and which ones, now we'll figure it out.

Classical

Classic (formal, business, official) style - this outfit is appropriate for business and festive events, as well as as a dress code for job professions. It is usually expressed in a business trouser suit, shirt and tie, and polished shoes.

Sports

Sporty style is a comfortable and varied style that is not limited to sportswear. It can be a variety of T-shirts and T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, as well as sneakers, loafers. Jeans, down jackets, shirts, windbreakers, sneakers, boots and shoes can also be performed in a sporty style.

Casual (casual)

Casual (casual) style is the most common style among modern men, which is appropriate in everyday life. A casual style is formed depending on the lifestyle, work, temperament and personal preferences of a man.

There are no clear restrictions in it, and therefore the casual style was divided into subspecies:

Romantic

Romantic style is a style for true romantics, in which there are no straight and strict lines and seams, as in the classic style, but there is multilayer, light carelessness and ease. There are pastel shirts, jumpers and blazers, different models of trousers, interesting accessories.

Military

Military (military) style - this style borrowed the lines, shades and style of clothing from military style and uniforms. Today it is preferred by brutal men, connoisseurs of professional recreation (fishing, hunting, etc.). The main characteristics of the military are camouflage shades, dense coarse fabrics and seams, a certain categorization and reliability of clothes and shoes.

Safari

The safari style is a style reminiscent of the workwear of African hunters, but moved into casual wear. It can be raincoats, vests, jackets, T-shirts, trousers with rivets and patch pockets in natural shades (khaki, beige, green, olive, etc.). Accessories are hats, harnesses, leather belts.

Denim (denim)

Denim style (denim) - this style is appreciated by lovers of denim fabric. From it can be both shirts and trousers, and jackets, windbreakers, shorts, vests and jackets, as well as hats and accessories.

Ethno

Ethno style - if earlier people wore ethnic costumes of their nation, today ethno style has retained some elements from past centuries and traditions. Today, this style includes sweaters with ornaments, various sweaters and T-shirts with hieroglyphs, sandals, shorts, breeches and different styles of pants.

Vanguard

Avant-garde style is a style for extraordinary personalities with creative thinking and a vision of the world. The main features of the avant-garde style of clothing are complex geometric lines, asymmetry, shocking and versatility. There are no clear canons here, and a wide range of choice and realization of all fantasies opens up for the designer and the man. You can combine incompatible styles and fabrics, materials and colors, which is beneficial to stand out from the crowd in the future.

Hipster

Hipster style - it is more often preferred by young people in the struggle to create an anti-fashion and unique style. The principle of hipsters is independence from fashion trends and design decisions. Young people usually mix democratic clothing brands with vintage items from the last century.

Grunge

Grunge is the style of rebels who do not want to follow fashion laws, preferring ripped jeans and a stretched oversized sweater to a stylish suit. In simple terms, the grunge style is called the “urban bum” style, but its prerequisite is an elite perfume.

Brutal

Brutal style - ripped jeans and leather jackets are not a consequence of the past, but an excellent opportunity for men to demonstrate their character, disposition and protest against the foundations of the public.

Rock

Rock style is a subcultural movement for punks, heavy music and motorcycle lovers. Most often there are leather jackets, jeans and loose-fitting trousers, various metal elements and very strange fittings.

Club

Club style - these outfits are preferred by trendy party-goers with a predominantly nightlife. Here you can combine clothes of the brightest shades and prints, with decorative elements, stripes, gaps. A plain white T-shirt can balance such an outfit; men are also offered ready-made trouser suits in this style.

Boho

Boho - this style is characterized by original trousers of different colors, patchwork vests and knitted cardigans, shirts complemented by a bow tie or a scarf. Boho-style clothes look somewhat shabby and close to the casual style.

Output

In fact, the latest estimates of stylists indicate that there can be more than 30 names of men's clothing styles, but many of them are still little known in the post-Soviet space. Some are narrow-profile styles of subcultures and nationalities, others prefer rare, very extraordinary personalities. What is this book about
We all know that "they are greeted by their clothes, escorted by their minds", but for some reason many allow themselves to ignore this common truth. Meanwhile, a well-chosen suit gives a businessman of any rank a much-needed polish and emphasizes his confidence.

However, choosing the right costume is, without exaggeration, an art. Having made a mistake in the details, you can easily negate all efforts and spoil the image.

Allan Flusser, a fashion expert with over 30 years of experience, will help you master this skill. Using the example of celebrities, he tells what fabrics, colors and proportions are suitable for different types of appearance, how to dress correctly for a social reception, a protocol event or for the first meeting with your future business partners.

Why we decided to publish this book
Because we know how important the first opinion is. A well-groomed, tastefully dressed person gives the impression of being confident, collected and intelligent. It's a pleasure to deal with such.

Who is this book for?
For experienced businessmen, it is sometimes helpful to check and brush up on your knowledge of the business dress code.
For young managers, your career may depend on your appearance, not just relationships with girls. And they will only benefit if you look elegant.
In general, for everyone who wants to replenish their arsenal with another proven tool for achieving success.

I read a book on how to dress properly in clothes that I don't have.

Real Man is a large, solid, illustrated guide to how a real man should dress to be recognized as his other alpha males. It contains separate chapters on the correct selection of socks, the art of wearing a tuxedo and other things that are now half-forgotten.

Personally, it was interesting for me to read the book (up to a certain point), but practically useless. I don’t wear 99% of the clothes described in the book, and I wear the remaining pathetic 1%, from the point of view of its author, incorrectly. However, this does not negate the practical usefulness of the book for those gentlemen men who have to tie a tie every morning and put on a tuxedo every Saturday.

It was funny to observe such phrases in the book:

Check out the traditional mix of prints in a Prince Charles costume!

Riding jackets are usually sewn with one slit in the back.

Leslie Howard's shirt collar accentuates his narrow face.

And here is Doug Fairbanks Jr in a shirt with a stand-up collar and a Windsor knot tie.

"To a Real Man" is a book about a style of life that stayed far away in the 50s with its author, and now gentlemen are just playing this style, trying to follow the rules that they themselves do not understand. The book has practically no advice on contemporary fashion, contemporary fabrics, styles, and more. This guide is suitable for fashion historians, vintage enthusiasts, and as a gift for those who have stepped out of the fifties and want to come back.

The book can be advised to a man who wants to understand the foundations and causes of modern fashion, a hipster who wants to understand the right vintage, a photographer, illustrator or editor of a fashion project, some buyers or dressers. Well, you can also give such a book to a man with fashionable manners - let him read and be inspired.

"100 years of fashion for men"

Callie Blackman

Here is a book about how easily history is reflected in fashion. The 20th century - bright and carefree at the beginning - was soon drenched in the blood of merciless wars. The last century gave birth to fashion, which proclaimed the cult of freedom and joy of life. Callie Blackman analyzed in the pages of her book that amazing era when the collections of Armani, Louis Vuitton and Versace coexisted with the street fashion of hippies and punks. The book contains a large number of illustrations and photographs of those times, which will help to better imagine how men dressed in those years.
