What is dry body butter made of?

Additional Ingredients

Sometimes manufacturers add some additional ingredients to dry oil, for example, a golden shimmer or small sparkles for a delicate glow of the skin, as well as various bronzershelping to give the skin spectacular swarthy tones. And sometimes dry oils are enriched with various vitamins and a number of other, no less useful components!

Dry Butter Benefits for the Body

Dry body butter:

  • Intensively nourishes, softens and moisturizes the skin, making it shiny, smooth and healthy.
  • Contains antioxidants that rejuvenate skin cells.
  • Forms a weightless oil film on the skin, reliably protecting it from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, as well as helping to protect the skin from sunburn and preserve its youth.
  • Doesn't smudge and doesn't make skin greasy.
  • Does not clog skin pores.
  • It has the finest and surprisingly delicate aroma, combining notes of valuable plant extracts, amazing flowers and natural exotic oils. This fragrance lasts long enough on the skin (and even longer on the hair), so that lovers of unobtrusive and light fragrances can safely use dry oil instead of perfume or eau de parfum.
  • It is quite acceptable to use for hair care (though only some brands of dry oils). Dry oil helps to smooth hair and make it more manageable and shiny. It does not stick curls, does not weigh them down at all and does not leave a disgusting greasy film on them.

Dry body oil "Treasures of the East" with argan oil and lotus extract

Another undoubted advantage of dry oil is that both the skin and hair always remain dry after its application!

How to use dry body butter?

Dry oil is very convenient to use. Most often, it is available in the form of a spray, which is easy to apply to the skin in a matter of seconds. It is best to do this immediately after a shower, while the skin of the body is still slightly damp - this approach allows you to keep moisture in the skin to the maximum, and this moisture will generously nourish the surface layers of the epidermis.

This product is sprayed onto the skin with a thin, almost weightless layer, after which it is easily and gently rubbed into the skin with your hands - no greasy marks will remain!

And if you apply such oil on dry skin of the legs, you can achieve an incredibly attractive “glossy” effect, that is, you get as if invisible tights. This is especially convenient in hot weather. Moreover, with the help of this tool, you can also visually lengthen the legs - for this, it is enough to apply dry oil on the front parts of the shins and on the calves.

Some of the fair sex successfully use dry oil to remove makeup, which, in principle, is not surprising, because such an oil does not require rinsing. And a few “puffs” of this product in any facial skin care product or BB cream will help to significantly enhance their effect! However, you can use dry oil for face care and in its own form - it perfectly helps to provide the skin with a slight matte effect. Ideally, it should also be applied to well-cleansed, but slightly moisturized skin.

Dry oil is also excellent for use as a means to obtain an even tan - it is especially good to apply it to those parts of the body that tan the least, in particular, on the inner thighs or forearms. In addition, this oil is able to enhance the shade of already tanned skin, making it more shimmery and golden.

Dry oil is an unparalleled versatile and multifunctional product that helps maintain the beauty of the skin and provide it with proper hydration and nutrition!

What is oil?

Oil is the general name for a variety of substances that do not dissolve in water. There are mineral (refined products), essential (volatile aromatic substances of plants) and natural oils, more often of vegetable origin (oils are usually called fats). In cosmetics, vegetable oils are most valued. Essential oils are used in very small concentrations for perfumes and to add flavors and additional properties. not good for the skin.

Cosmetic oil, of course, is different from household oil - what you use in the kitchen. Before the oil is poured into bottles, it goes through several stages of processing: certain substances and natural waxes are removed from the composition, oil and deodorized.

What is in the oil?

Each oil has its own special molecular composition of vitamins, fatty acids, trace elements. Some oils are rich in Omega-3, 6, 9 and other complexes, while others are rich in fat-soluble vitamins. Therefore, in order to create the most effective skin care product, manufacturers often use mixtures / combinations of various valuable oils. Cosmetic oil is a complex combination of vegetable and essential oils. Sometimes even oil from different parts of the same plant (nuts, seeds, fruits) is used.

The oil will always nourish and moisturize the skin. In the nutritional effect, oil cannot be surpassed by any other product - it is it that is more saturated with useful substances, lipids, fatty acids, than other means. But it moisturizes the oil indirectly, since there is no water in its composition. It does not provide moisture, but "blocks" all the ways of moisture loss through the skin and "locks" it inside, while not interfering with "breathing".

Which is better: oil or cream?

Both tools do their job well. But oil has a number of advantages. Oil is the oldest cosmetic product known to Cleopatra. It is universal: suitable for all skin types. Oil is the most deeply penetrating product: its individual ingredients penetrate very deep into the dermis, and essential oils are known as conductors - they are able to “push” other components into the skin. At the same time, the oil is very economical: a small amount is enough to apply to the whole body.

How to apply oil?

You can combine body butter with your favorite cream. First, apply oil - in this pair it plays the role of a serum, a more intense remedy. A cream applied over the oil helps to remove, as if "sealing" the oil.

It is best to apply the oil on the body after a shower, on slightly towel-dried skin. Then the oil will not collect in drops, as on wet skin, and at the same time, the moisture remaining in the upper layers of the epidermis will be enough to moisturize.

Warm a small amount of oil (up to 1 ml) in the palms of your hands and apply to the desired area, moving upwards from the tips of your fingers or toes. On the abdomen, apply the oil in a clockwise direction. Do not use too much product - it should not run down the skin.

What is dry oil and how to use it?

"Dry" refers to oil with special properties - the absence of oiliness and stickiness after application. This oil gives the skin a matte finish,

and hair - a slight glossy shine. It most often consists of a combination of a variety of expensive herbal oils that are light in texture or light, refined and filtered.

The special component cyclomethicone (or ingredients similar to it) also helps to achieve this effect. This substance consists of a new generation of unmodified silicone. It combines well with many cosmetic ingredients and facilitates their penetration into the skin, and due to its volatility and fast spreading, it has a weightless texture. The molecules of cyclomethicone are large, therefore they do not penetrate the skin and hair, but form a protective invisible film on their surface, under which all the other components of the oil are found. This component retains moisture in the skin and protects against external influences (low temperatures, strong winds, dry air). Dry oils are versatile. They can also be applied to damp skin after a shower to retain moisture in the skin, and can be applied topically to dry areas. The oil can be used for body massage and as a hair mask.

Can everyone use oils?

The division by skin type applies only to oils for the face. Body oils are universal not only by skin type, but also by areas of application: they can moisturize and nourish body skin, restore damaged hair, strengthen nails and take care of cuticles. Note: the more natural the oil, the more versatile it is.

Oil, even the one that has the prefix “beauty-”, in the usual sense, is a sticky, greasy, oily, but super-nourishing substance, without which no full-fledged personal care is possible. Such a product was difficult to apply to the body and hair, it required long-term absorption, often left a greasy film, and instantly turned the hair into greasy tow. Now, with the development of the beauty industry, everything has changed dramatically! Conventional oils have been replaced by dry ones - a real “miracle of nature”, which is not inferior in its effect to greasy and sticky counterparts, with the only difference being that they do not leave any traces and unpleasant sensations after themselves.

What is dry oil?

Means labeled dry oil have firmly established themselves on store shelves and on the dressing tables of beauty bloggers. Almost all cosmetic brands have these in their assortment, and if someone else doesn’t have them, they will definitely appear in the near future, because this is a real “time bomb” that all girls dream of. The excitement is quite justified: everything and even more is subject to dry oil! It nourishes, moisturizes, protects, gives the skin and hair a well-groomed appearance, while leaving no sticky residue, oily sheen, or film feeling. The body and hair are simply enveloped in a weightless and silky coating that gives them a glossy shine, softness and matte finish with a dry effect.

The formula of dry oils is unique! As a rule, manufacturers mix up to eighty different natural oils, as well as herbal ingredients, into one consistency. The main role is assigned to cyclomethicone. This substance consists of a new generation of unmodified silicone, thanks to which the oil turns out to be dry. Cyclomethicone molecules, due to their size and chemical characteristics, are not able to penetrate the skin and hair, they simply form a film on the surface. But don't be alarmed, this is not at all the heavy and unpleasant film that we are all used to. Under the film of cyclomethicone are caring components that are gradually and evenly absorbed into the skin and hair, providing a powerful caring effect. Moreover, such a silicone barrier not only helps oils and extracts to be absorbed into the skin and hair, but also protects them from external damaging effects.

The versatility of dry oils is also impressive: they can be applied to any part of the body, regardless of skin and hair type, added to masks, scrubs, creams, lotions and other cosmetics. On the other hand, these oils provide the greatest cosmetic effect on wet hair and skin. This is due to the fact that water molecules do not evaporate from the surface, but are “sealed” with a film, being absorbed along with useful substances. Prolonged moisturizing effect guaranteed!

As befits dry oils, it is absorbed very quickly, does not leave a greasy sheen, and does not stain clothes either. You can safely dress up and go for a walk immediately after applying the product! The natural components in its composition provide the skin with proper care, plus everything else instantly softens the rough parts of the body (heels, elbows, knees). This oil is ideal not only for body care, but also for massage, including anti-cellulite.

It is perhaps difficult to find a woman who has never used vegetable oil for hair or body care. After all, many oils have proven themselves both in professional cosmetology and in home remedies. What could be easier: apply pure oil on the skin and enjoy the softness and smoothness of the skin!

But oil is oil. For full absorption, he needs time, during which there is a risk of leaving greasy marks on clothes. And we don’t always have time: we want to apply the product and immediately go about our business. Therefore, it is better to leave the use of pure oils for calm and measured SPA procedures, and use the so-called “dry oils” in everyday life.

What is dry oil?

First of all, it is an oil consisting of the so-called "light" fats, which include mainly linoleic and linolenic acids. Such oils themselves are quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving behind a greasy and sticky film.“Drying” or “semi-drying” oils include watermelon, primrose, poppy, sesame, hemp, flax, grape seed, camelina oil and some others. Oils containing mainly monounsaturated acids (for example, oleic acid) are absorbed much worse: olive, almond, castor, peach. True, here, as with any cosmetics, everything is individual, and much depends on the condition of your skin.

An obligatory component of dry oils are silicones or natural emollients. It is thanks to them that the oil (or a mixture of oils) acquires the property of being quickly absorbed, spreading over the skin or hair with the thinnest light layer.

- volatile silicone that does not penetrate the skin, but completely evaporates from the surface. It leaves a silky feeling on the skin. It is a neutral component that can not only significantly lighten oil mixtures, but also improve their absorption into the skin or hair.

An alternative to cyclomethicone for those who prefer natural herbal ingredients. Made from sugar and coconuts.

Dry oils market is very interesting for cosmetics brands in terms of profit . Almost all brands are fighting to capture at least some part of it. Some experts claim that one bottle is sold every 6 seconds in the world dry oil. And Nuxe, the unrivaled leader in this market, claims to sell 16 million vials per year .

Properties of dry oils

Brands claim that dry oils are ideal for moisturizing the skin, helping to restore hair structure and in general are a wonderful remedy for all cosmetic adversities. And most importantly, they do not leave greasy marks on the skin. Not like pure oils...

What is it really?

Traditional dry oils are a mixture of several oils.

They are based on esterified oils. , mainly caprylyl/capric triglyceride to which refined vegetable oils are added.

In mine, I talked about this variety of oils. As part of creams and other products that are emulsions, the use of esterified oils is justified. But using them in their pure form, even if pure oils are used in combination with them, does not make sense. Get empty products .

Nux oil

They deserve special attention because they Nuxe brought to market and was able to popularize dry oils . The very first oil Huile Prodigieuse appeared in 1991.

Initially, the composition of the oil included a cocktail of silicones and synthetic components. But in 2012, influenced by the growing concern of the population about the naturalness of cosmetics, Nuxe revised the composition of its oil.

Now in the composition Huile prodigieuse includes a whole set of esterified oils : coco-caprylate/caprate, dycaprylyl ether, caprylyc/capric triglyceride. And vegetable oils of borage, argan, magnolia, almond, macadamia nut, camellia, sunflower, and vitamin E. The new composition allows Nuxe to claim that their oil is 98.1% natural ingredients.

With this composition, one should not expect miracles from this oil. All it can do is create a protective layer on the skin.

But this oil has two features that made it iconic . And they concern not its cosmetic properties, but consumer qualities. This is an addictive product that is a pleasure to use.

Firstly, This oil is great to apply on the skin. . It is easily absorbed and leaves a velvety feeling on the skin.

And secondly, fragrance. You really can't compare it to anything. It is light, sensual and sunny at the same time, and evokes memories of the sea, summer and holidays... It has long been proven that smell is one of the most important stimuli that influences how a person makes a decision. It is the aroma of Nuxe oil that is its main advantage. And its popularity is so great that the brand has released a perfume called Prodigieux le Parfum.

And so that consumers do not relax, Nuxe periodically releases limited customized series of its oil.

There are many dry oils. Among those that I had to try:

Huile Fabuleuse by L'Occitane en Province

I avoid this brand. But I received the oil as a gift. Therefore, it was a sin not to try it.

Cost: about 26 euros per 100 ml

The base of this oil is sunflower oil . Plus all the same esterified oils caprylyc/capric triglyceride and coco-caprylate/caprate. And shea butter, carrot, date tree and baobab.

This oil is not light, it is difficult to absorb and leaves the skin oily, perhaps due to the high content of sunflower oil. Unlike Nuxe oil, it has a rather heavy aroma that is difficult to get rid of. But in principle, the smell is subjective.

Huile Divine by Caudalie

Cost: about 20 euros per 100 ml

Basically the same story. Esterified oils , including palm oil derivatives . And in addition to them, vegetable oils - primarily grape seeds (the brand obliges), sesame, shea butter, sunflower, hibiscus. Also vitamin E.

This oil is lighter than the previous one, but it is poorly absorbed and glides over the skin, as it were. And he has a rather heavy smell, for an amateur.

What is the success of dry oils?

All of the above brands give importance sensory characteristics its products, that is make them pleasant to use . And only then they customize the useful properties of the components used.

Among these sensory characteristics are: texture, color and smell . One of the challenges for brands is to ensure that during production, funds do not change their properties from batch to batch.

But when it comes to vegetable oils, their smell and color cannot be guaranteed. In addition, each oil has its own specific smell. In order to achieve a golden color, a transparent texture and no smell, vegetable oils are refined, as a result of which they lose all the beneficial properties of pure oils .

Ultimately, dry oils are only capable of creating a film on the skin.

Dry oils in natural cosmetics

So, thanks to the use of esterified oils in the composition, brands achieve good absorption and that “dry” effect that consumers appreciate so much. But in the world of natural cosmetics, there are oils that can provide the same properties in their pure form. Among the oils that are absorbed quickly:

- grape seed oil Vitis vinifera
- jojoba oil- Simmondsia chinensis
- macadamia oil Macadamia ternifolia
- sesame oil Sesamum indicum
- date tree oil - Balanites roxburghii

Compared to traditional dry oils, pure, unrefined oils are truly beneficial. The only thing you have to sacrifice is the flavor.... But even here there are advantages. So, using perfumed oils for the face is quite difficult. The oily texture allows fragrances to last longer. And if when used on the body a similar effect can be pleasant, then when applied to the face, in my opinion, it is quite difficult to endure this persistent smell.
