Skillful needlewomen often knit their products using the "English elastic" pattern. This is due not only to the simplicity of knitting, but also to the practicality and beauty of the connected things. It is extremely important for beginners to learn how to knit English elastic in order to master this simple technique. After a very short time, they will be able to create amazing masterpieces with the help of knitting needles and yarn.

Skillful needlewomen often knit their products using the "English elastic" pattern

With the help of a simple scheme, even a beginner can knit an English gum.

It is enough just to choose a suitable, thick yarn and you can start knitting:

  1. On the needles, cast on loops (odd number).
  2. Knit the first row in strict sequence: one front loop, then yarn over, the next loop is not knitted, and the thread is pulled from the back of the work.
  3. The next row begins with a straight crochet, the next loop is removed, then there is a front loop, which is knitted together with the crochet of the first row.
  4. At the next stage, first a loop and a yarn are knitted together, the next loop is removed.
  5. After that, you just need to repeat the scheme of the second and third row.

Important! The first and last stitches of each row are considered edge stitches and do not need to be taken into account when knitting according to the pattern.

Double English elastic: how to knit correctly

The double English elastic band looks original, noble. It is knitted according to a simple pattern, which is slightly different from the classic one. To do this, you just need to dial the loops, the number of which should be divisible by four, and additionally add two edge loops.

The double English elastic band looks original, noble

After that, you can start knitting the original pattern:

  1. Knit a row alternating between two front and two purl loops.
  2. On the next row, make a yarn over, remove and do not knit a pair of loops, then knit a couple of knit loops.
  3. The third row begins with a crochet and knitting one front loop along with the crochet of the previous row, then there is one front and one crochet, a pair of loops is not knitted.
  4. Next comes the yarn, two not knitted and a loop with a yarn together, knit again.

How to knit a scarf with an English elastic pattern

The simplest product that can be knitted with this pattern is a scarf. To cope with such a task is within the power of not only experienced needlewomen, but also beginners. The result is a soft, beautiful and warm scarf, pleasing to the eye and warming in the most extreme cold.

Required materials and tools:

  • 200 g cashmere yarn;
  • Knitting needles number 3.5.

The simplest product that can be knitted with this pattern is a scarf

Progress:

  1. Cast on thirty loops.
  2. Tie the first line with a simple elastic band, by alternating the front and back loops.
  3. The second line begins by removing the hem and front loop, yarn over and transferring the purl to another knitting needle. Thus, complete the line.
  4. Follow the pattern until the end of the scarf knitting.
  5. It remains to close the loops and make brushes on the finished product.
  6. Cut the threads into twelve centimeter strips and fasten to the scarf using a crochet hook.

Important! It should be borne in mind that after the first wash, the scarf will become significantly longer.

Simple and voluminous English gum: what is the difference

Even visually, examining a sample of a pattern, it is not immediately possible to notice the difference between a simple and voluminous English elastic band. In fact, there are still differences. For a volumetric one, an odd number of loops is typed, and for a simple one - an even one. In addition, a more luxuriant product will turn out if you use a bulky elastic pattern. At the same time, a simple scheme is more understandable for beginners. There is no need to make yarn overs and simply toss stitches from knitting needles to knitting needles. It is impossible to get confused here.

Even visually, examining a sample of a pattern, it is not immediately possible to notice the difference between a simple and voluminous English elastic band.

The simple gum scheme is as follows:

  1. Cast on an even number of loops.
  2. Remove the edge, and then knit a pair of front and the same number of purls.
  3. Thus, finish the first line.
  4. All the following lines are knitted in the same way.

Ways to knit Polish gum

Scarves and snoods, knitted with a pattern of Polish elastic bands, look original and impressive. Its airy structure is just perfect for making warm baby clothes. There are two ways to knit such an elastic band.

In the first version, the scheme will be as follows:

  1. It is necessary to dial a multiple of four the number of loops and a couple of additional, edging.
  2. Tie even lines alternately with two front and two purl.
  3. Odd ones start with one purl, then alternate a pair of front and back, and knit the last one with the front.

Scarves and snoods, knitted with a pattern of Polish elastic bands, look original and impressive

The scheme of the second method is no less simple:

  1. Also, a multiple of four the number of loops is typed and a pair of edging is added.
  2. Outside lines are tied by alternating one facial, one purl and a pair of facial
  3. On the reverse side of the product, make one purl loop, and then three front loop.

French elastic: the basis of knitting

Despite the fact that the French gum is much less popular than the English one, using just such schemes you can make unusual, very beautiful things. In addition, following the instructions, everyone will cope with this task.

First way:

  1. First of all, dial the loops (a multiple of four and additionally a pair of edging).
  2. The first row is knitted by alternating two purl and two front ones.
  3. The next row starts with one purl, followed by a pair of knit stitches and another purl loop.
  4. Thus, alternating lines, the whole product is knitted.

The second scheme is no less simple:

  1. Cast on a multiple of three the number of loops, one additionally for symmetry and a couple of edging.
  2. The odd lines are knitted in a clear sequence, starting with one purl loop, followed by one not knitted and front loop. After that, the front skip is done.
  3. The ending loop in this row should be purl.
  4. All even rows are performed in a different sequence. The front goes first, then one not knitted is removed and the purl immediately follows. Not knitted is returned to the left knitting needle and is knitted with a purl loop. This row should end with a front loop.

The whole product is knitted according to this principle.

English knitting needles for beginners (video)

There are many ways to knit an elastic band. Each of them has its own characteristics. To choose the most suitable one, it is necessary to take into account not only the complexity or simplicity of these schemes, but also the desired result. For example, the English knitting pattern is more suitable for sweaters, hats and scarves, but the French one is just perfect for making bright warm blankets. The original Polish elastic band looks great on children's clothes, they turn out to be warm and tender. Regardless of which scheme is chosen, special attention should be paid to the yarn. Only from high-quality materials, pleasant to the touch, you can knit things that you never want to part with.

Knitting is one of the most ancient types of needlework, which for a long time was an exclusively male type of occupation. The most popular knitting technique, starting from the 17th century, is considered to be English knitting "Fisherman", which eventually became known as "English elastic band".

Even today, various types of hats, scarves, sweaters and other products are knitted with an English elastic band, because despite its simplicity, it looks very impressive. In addition to the classic English elastic band, there are several more of its varieties, which provide more opportunities for knitting a variety of products.

How to knit correctly

Before you start knitting the simplest things, we recommend that you work out the knitting patterns of the main types of English elastic bands step by step with a photo.

How to knit a classic English elastic band

Report:

  • 1st front row: remove the hem loop, 1 purl, 1 front.
  • 2nd purl row: remove the hem loop, remove 1 purl with a yarn over, 1 front.
  • 3rd front row: 1 front, 1 front with a crochet, remove 1 loop with a crochet, without knitting.

Knit the remaining rows according to the 3-row pattern.

Report:

  • 1th front row: Remove hem, 1 front, 1 front, 1 purl, 1 purl.
  • 2nd purl row: remove the hem loop, 1 purl, ** 1 purl, 1 front, 1 front, 1 purl **, the pattern between ** must be repeated until all the loops of the row are over.

Repeat knitting two rows alternately.

How to knit an English elastic with two colors of yarn

To knit with this type of elastic, you will need two skeins of contrasting color.

Report:

  • 1st front row (1st shade of yarn): 1 front, yarn, remove 1 loop.
  • 2nd purl row (2nd shade of yarn): yarn yarn, remove 1 loop, 1 front loop (knitted with a crochet of the first row).
  • 3rd front row (1st shade of yarn): we start knitting from the opposite end of the knitting needle - purl 1 (we knit a yarn over with a loop), yarn, remove 1 loop.
  • 4th purl row (2nd shade of yarn): yarn yarn, remove 1 loop, purl 1 (knit yarn with yarn).
  • 5th front row (1st shade of yarn): we start knitting from the opposite end of the knitting needle - 1 front (we knit a yarn over with a loop), yarn, remove 1 loop.

We repeat the knitting pattern, starting from row 2.

Examples of products related to the English rubber band

We offer you a selection of ideas for knitting various things with an English elastic band.

Such a voluminous takori hat can be knitted from merino wool or cashmere using a classic English elastic band.

To determine how many loops are needed, you must:

  1. Measure the circumference of the head from the frontal part to the back of the head with a measuring tape.
  2. Knit a small sample from the purchased yarn.
  3. Measure with a ruler 1 centimeter of the sample and count the number of loops.
  4. The result obtained is multiplied by the length of the head circumference, which will prompt the required number of loops.

  • With an English elastic band, you can knit a set of a hat with a lapel and a scarf, completing a striped pattern horizontally, alternately changing the colors of the yarn. A hat and a scarf, if you are planning a baby product, can be decorated with pom-poms from the same yarn.

  • A very fashionable set of snood and a beanie can be knitted with an English elastic band of two shades of woolen or acrylic yarn. For the male version of this set, use one shade of yarn.

  • This voluminous snood is knitted with an English elastic band in a circular manner. To do this, use special knitting needles with a fishing line no thinner than number 5 and thick woolen yarn so that the knitting is loose.

  • The photo shows an example of a sweater knitted with an English elastic band. In order to knit such a product, you first need to take all the necessary measurements. After knitting a small swatch from your chosen yarn, calculate the number of loops for each piece of the sweater. When all parts of the product are connected, they must be sewn and the neck is decorated with an elastic band. You can come up with the idea of such a sweater yourself or find a ready-made scheme on the Internet.

  • Using circular knitting, you can knit a simple mini skirt with a fake elastic band. To do this, you will need to measure the waist and hips with a measuring tape.
  • Using thick yarn and thick knitting needles, you can knit a very fashionable cardigan with patch pockets. To do this, you will need to make simple patterns according to the measurements that you take.

The English elastic band is a beautiful, voluminous, popular, but at the same time, simple-to-execute pattern, which even for novice needlewomen can do. This pattern differs from simple and familiar elastic bands in relief, lush volume.

The nakida used in the pattern add volume, but at the same time do not form holes at all, due to which the finished products are soft, free, with the effect of volumetric looseness. Therefore, the pattern looks perfect on items such as scarves, hats and berets, wide leg warmers, sweaters, including men's, and much more. The classic way of knitting an English patent elastic band looks the same on both the front and the wrong side.

Be sure to take into account before choosing this pattern that it will take an order of magnitude more threads than any other openwork pattern for knitting the same product.

The subtleties and secrets of knitting a beautiful English elastic band

  • To get an even fabric and avoid skewed edges, a set of loops must be made with a thickened edge. It is imperative to complete the finished product with a double thread.
  • The pattern of the English elastic band is completely unsuitable for items of clothing that "keep" their shape, for example, sleeve cuffs or the bottom of a sweater.
  • Select threads with needles proportionally, the thicker the thread, the thicker the diameter of the needles should be. Experienced needlewomen recommend knitting the front loops on the front wall, then you will save the pattern from distortion, and the product will turn out to be elastic and even (see more in the video below).
  • Be sure to remember and keep in mind that a scarf that is tied with an English elastic band really stretches a lot after washing. Moreover, the thicker the diameter of the spokes, the more it will stretch. If you plan to knit an openwork scarf with this pattern for a warmer period, then it is better to use mohair. And, for example, frills or luxurious ruffles are great from a ribbon fancy yarn.

How to knit an English elastic with knitting needles: all pattern options with descriptions, diagrams or photos

English gum 1x1

Double-sided pattern.

1 way, a detailed master class:

To get started, we collect loops. The number of regular loops must be naturally odd. For the sample, we cast 35 stitches.
In order for the edges of the product to be even, the first loop, naturally of each row, must be completely removed, without knitting at all, the corresponding thread should remain behind the product. The last loop must always be knit purl, regardless of the pattern.

The first row - we make one single yarn, then we completely remove one loop, without knitting at all, the thread remains behind the product, one loop is knitted with the front one.

We turn the product over to the wrong side.
The second row - we make one single yarn, then we completely remove one loop, without knitting at all, the thread remains behind the product, then we knit two small loops, be sure to knit together. Here you should pay attention to the drawing, which clearly shows which two loops should be knitted together - this is a yarn, as you understand, from the previous row and a loop that was removed without knitting.
We turn the product over, knit the next row.
The third row - we carefully knit two loops together with the front one, then the yarn over, removes one loop, the thread remains behind the product.
Next, we repeat the pattern from the second row.

Having knitted about 5 centimeters, you can already clearly see the structure of the knitted elastic.

It is important to finish the products from the English elastic band correctly, otherwise if we make a scarf. Its edges will be of different widths.

So, we knit the last row of the English elastic in this way: we remove a single loop, as well as in the pattern, we knit 2 together, but we do not make a yarn. This allows us to reduce the number of loops to 35, as it was originally.

Now we finish the product from the English elastic band in the same way as any other product.

For clarity and convenience, we will provide a diagram of how to knit an English elastic band.

Legend of the available loops for the above scheme.

Method 2:
For the sample, an even number of loops plus 2 edge loops are recruited.
1 p - 1 chrome., (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting, 1 worn out.), 1 chrome.;
2 p - 1 chrome., (1 reverse yarn, 1 person. Remove without knitting, 1 worn. Together with the adjacent yarn, knit purl), 1 chrome.;
3 r and all subsequent ones - as 2 rows.

English gum 2x1

One-sided pattern. For the sample, dial the number of loops, a multiple of 3 plus 2 edging.
1 p - 1 chrome., (2 persons., 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop), 1 chrome.;
2 p - 1 chrome., (1 person. Together with the adjacent yarn, knit a person, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 chrome.;
3 p - 1 chrome., (2 persons, together with adjacent yarns, knit with the front ones, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 worn out without knitting), 1 chrome.;
4 p and all even - like 2 rows;
5 r and all odd - like 3 rows.

English elastic band 2x2

Double-sided pattern, it turns out to be embossed, it seems more dense. Suitable for wide leg warmers, hats and scarves. Knit on 5 knitting needles or circular knitting needles with fishing line. It is convenient to knit hats from thick threads with such an elastic band. They come out seamlessly and knit quickly.

For the sample, dial the number of loops, a multiple of 4 plus 2 edging.
1 p - 1 hem, (2 persons, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without tying, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 hem;
2 p - 1 hem, (knit 1 front with an adjacent yarn over, knit 1 front yarn together with an adjacent yarn, 1 back yarn, 1 back yarn off without knitting, 1 back yarn, 1 back yarn off without knitting), 1 hem ;
3 r and all subsequent ones - like 2 rows.

Semi-English gum

One-sided pattern. The seamy side of the semi-English gum looks like a real English 1x1 gum. Therefore, its seamy side is used as the front side, and the front side is used as the seamy side.
For the sample, cast on an even number of loops plus 2 edging.
1 p - 1 edge, (1 front, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 edge;
2 p - 1 edge, (1 front together with the adjacent yarn to knit the front, 1 purl), 1 edge;
Then the pattern is repeated from the beginning.

FALSE ENGLISH RUBBERS

False English rubber bands were invented to save yarn and knit products faster.

False English gum # 1

For the sample, cast on an odd number of loops plus 2 edging.
1 p - all facial;
2 p - 1 hem, (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting, while the thread is at work, 2 front), 1 hem;
3 p - 1 edge, (2 purl, 1 front, reduced to the right), 1 edge;
4 p - as row 2;
With 5 r-a, the drawing is repeated from the beginning.

False English gum # 2

For the sample, cast on an even number of loops plus 2 edging.
1 p - 1 edge, (1 front, 1 reverse yarn, 1 loop is removed without knitting, while the thread is at work), 1 edge;
2 p - 1 edge, (1 front, reduced to the right, 1 purl), 1 edge;
3 p - 1 edge, (1 front of the previous row, 1 reverse yarn, 1 loop is removed without knitting, while the thread is at work), 1 edge;
From row 4, the pattern is repeated from row 2.

Simplified English gum

Double-sided pattern. For the sample, cast on an arbitrary number of loops.
1 p - 1 edge, (1 front, 1 purl), 1 edge;
2 p - 1 edge, (1 front from the previous row, 1 purl), 1 edge;
3 r and all subsequent ones - as row 2.

Faceted elastic band

Double-sided pattern. There are many ways to knit this pattern. Here are a few of them.

Method 1:
For the sample, dial the number of loops, a multiple of 4, plus 1 loop for symmetry, plus 2 edging):

2 p. - 1 chrome, (2 worn out, 2 persons), 1 worn out, 1 chrome;
3 p. - the drawing is repeated from the beginning.

Method 2:
For the sample, dial the number of loops in multiples of 4 plus 3 additional loops.
1 p. - 1 chrome, (2 persons, 2 worn out), 1 person, 1 chrome;
2 p. and all subsequent ones - as 1 row.

Method 3:

1 p. - 1 chrome, (3 persons, 1 worn out), 1 chrome;
2 p. - 1 chrome, (2 persons, 1 worn, 1 person), 1 chrome.

Method 4:
For the sample, dial the number of loops, a multiple of 4 plus 2 edging.
1 p. - 1 chrome, (2 persons, 2 worn out), 1 chrome;
2 p. - 1 chrome, (1 person, 2 worn, 1 person), 1 person, 1 worn, 1 chrome;
3 p. - the pattern is repeated from the beginning;

TWO-COLOR ENGLISH RUBBERS

Two-tone English elastic band 1x1 vertical stripes

For the sample, we collect an even number of loops with a blue thread.
1 row - 1 chrome, (1 person, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 chrome;
Now let's return to the beginning of the row, moving the knitting to the other end of the knitting needle, attach a white thread there, and knit the next row with a white thread:
2 row - 1 chrome, (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 person without knitting, knit 1 worn with the adjacent yarn), 1 chrome;
Front side

3 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 person without knitting, knit 1 worn with the adjacent yarn), 1 chrome;
Let's go back to the beginning of the row, moving the knitting to the other end of the knitting needle (there we still have a white thread), we knit:
4 row (white thread) - 1 chrome, (knit 1 face together with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 wrong yarn), 1 chrome;

We turn the work, continue to knit:
5 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (knit 1 face together with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 wrong yarn), 1 chrome;
Let's go back to the beginning of the row, moving the knitting to the other end of the knitting needle (there we still have a blue thread), knit.
6 row (white thread) - 1 chrome, (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 person without knitting, knit 1 worn with the adjacent yarn), 1 chrome;

Two-tone English elastic band 1x1 horizontal stripes

For the sample, cast on an even number of loops. In order to get a strip of a given color with a height of 1 pigtail, you need to knit 2 rows with a thread of this color. For example, to get a blue stripe one pigtail high, we knit as follows:
1 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (1 person, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 chrome;
2 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (knit 1 face together with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 wrong yarn without knitting), 1 chrome;
To get the same white stripe, we knit the next 2 rows in the same way, but with a white thread:
3 rows (white thread) - 1 chrome, (1 person, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 chrome;
4 row (white thread) - 1 chrome, (knit 1 crochet with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 crochet without knitting), 1 chrome;
etc.
Accordingly, to get a strip with a height of 2, 3, 4, ..., n braids, it is necessary to knit 2 * n rows with a thread of a given color.
According to this principle, using the appropriate descriptions, you can knit English elastic bands 2x1, 2x2, as well as multi-color horizontal stripes.

CIRCULAR KNITTING OF ENGLISH RUBBER

English gum 1x1 round

For the sample, we collect 33 loops. We distribute them 8 for each knitting needle. There should be 9 loops on the 4th knitting needle. We reshoot this 9th loop on the 1st knitting needle and knit one of the first two loops (there are 8 loops on the 4th knitting needle). So we closed knitting in a circle. Now you can start knitting the main pattern:
1 circular row - (1 front, 1 purl);
2 circular row - (1 front, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 purl without knitting);
3 circular row - (1 reverse yarn, 1 knit yarn off without knitting, 1 purl loop with an adjacent yarn knit with a purl loop);
4 circular row - (knit 1 front with an adjacent yarn with a front loop, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 purl without knitting);
Then the pattern is repeated from 3 rows.

For the sample we cast 33 loops with white thread.
1 circular row (white thread) - (1 front, 1 purl);
2 circular row (blue thread) - (1 front, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 purl without knitting);
3 circular row (white thread) - (1 reverse yarn, remove 1 knit, knit 1 purl together with an adjacent yarn with a purl);
4 circular row (blue thread) - (knit 1 front yarn together with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 wrong yarn without knitting);
Then the pattern is repeated from 3 rows.

Straight and back rows, while you need to dial an odd number of initial loops. The first and last thread bows are edging, they form a neat edge of the product, but they are not taken into account when describing the pattern!

The beginner will need to make a few samples of the rubber band, measuring 10 x 10 cm, before starting to create the main canvas. It is important to make sure that the pattern is neat, without errors, the loops are even and the same. The sample will allow you to calculate the size of the future product.

The simplest English elastic band for is performed by alternating front loops and straight yarns. Knit the first row of the pattern in the following sequence:

Knit stitch and yarn;

Remove the next thread bow on the right knitting needle, but do not knit;

Make sure the thread is behind the knitting;

Continue these alternations to the end of the row.

Start the next row of English elastic with a yarn over, remove the next string bow, leaving the thread behind the knitting. Now in front of you is the loop and yarn of the lower row. Grab them together with a working knitting needle and knit with the front one. Repeat these manipulations sequentially until you finish the second row.

Start the third row of the pattern by knitting the stitch and crochet together, followed by a new crochet and a removed loop. Next, continue to knit an English elastic band, alternating the second and third rows according to the described pattern.

What is a Fake English Gum

If you have mastered the English gum, you can create an imitation of this spectacular pattern. The technique of knitted fabric will be even more simplified, while outwardly distinguishing a fake English elastic band from a regular one will be impossible.

Cast on straight knitting needles any number of loops that will be a multiple of four. Do not forget about edging. In the first row of the pattern, alternate three knits with one purl. In the second row, repeat sequentially:

A pair of facial;

Purl;

Facial.

Follow the pattern by repeating the first and second rows, which make up the rapport of the fake English rubber band.

How to knit a scarf with an English elastic band

Knitted scarves made with a double-sided pattern are very convenient because they can be wrapped around the neck and created. The knitted fabric does not "light up" the unattractive seamy side, as is the case with one-sided reliefs. The product turns out to be elastic and at the same time rather loose.

That is why it is recommended to knit a scarf for beginners with an English elastic band, regular or fake. First, complete several rows of the future product and decide on its width. It is better to choose long knitting needles, their thickness should correspond to the diameter of the working yarn.

Cast on the required number of loops and continue to knit a scarf of the required length with an English elastic band, for example, 1.5 m. Close the final row of the product very carefully, without tightening or deforming the edge. Cut the working thread so that the tail remains about 7-10 cm. Carefully thread it into the fabric of the scarf using a crochet hook.

As you can see, knitting an English elastic with knitting needles for beginners is not such a difficult task. Now you can make a hat, a scarf-snood in the same style and continue to improve in knitting.

And, and now I will show how to knit an elastic band for beginners. We will learn to knit an elastic with 1x1 and 2x2 needles.

An elastic band is one of the most common and versatile, and at the same time, the simplest patterns that every novice needlewoman can easily knit. The elastic is often used for knitting cuffs, collars, sweater edges, jumpers. Vests, in a word, it is used where a springy tight knitting is needed. The elastic is also good for knitting turtlenecks, often used for scarves.
There are many variations of knitting elastic bands, from the simplest to the most complex ones like English elastic, elastic with braids, etc. Consider examples of knitting the simplest elastic band.

Elastic band 1x1.

To knit a 1x1 elastic, you need to dial an even number of standard loops. As an example, we cast on 24 loops, this is enough to see the pattern.

1. Cast on 24 simple loops.

As in any other pattern, the first loop of each row should be removed without knitting, and the last one should always be knitted with a purl. This is necessary so that the edges of the product are even.
We simply remove the first loop, without knitting in any way, knit the second with the purl, the third with the front, and the fourth with the purl. So we continue to the end of the row.

2. The first row of elastic.

3. Another type of the first row of elastic.

This is how the first row looks like, knitted with a 1x1 elastic band.

4. Completely the first row with a 1x1 elastic band.

We knit the second row in the same way. We pay attention to the sequence of loops of the first row, knit the front loop of the previous row with the front one, and knit the wrong one with the wrong one. It's easy enough to get lost here.

5. Two rows connected with 1x1 elastic band.

6. Elastic band 1x1.

7. Stretched 1x1 elastic band.

As you can see, its density and elasticity allows it to perform cuffs and other tight-fitting details of products.

Elastic band 2x2.

To knit a 2x2 elastic, we ideally need to dial a full number of loops, a multiple of four, but in extreme cases, you can just use an even number.

For example, we will type, as in the previous case, 24 loops.

We easily knit the first row as follows: the very initial one, we remove the first loop for the edge, then the front loop, then two purl, two front and again two purl.

8. We knit two front ones.

9. Knit purl loops.

So we continue to the end of the row, if you calculated everything correctly, typing the number of your loops, a multiple of four, according to the pattern, the last loop will come out the second purl.

10. First row with 2x2 elastic band.

We knit the next row in the same way - two standard front ones, two regular purl ones. Again, we make sure not to lose the pattern: the front loops should be strictly knitted with the front loops, the purl loops - with the purl loops.

11. Two rows with 2x2 elastic band.

Having knitted eight rows, we can already appreciate the pattern.

12. Elastic band 2x2.

13. Elastic band 2x2 stretched.

In the same way, you can knit variants of elastic bands 3x3, 2x3, 3x4 if the product is large, etc. As you can see, in terms of elasticity and appearance, they are absolutely not inferior to each other. The choice of the type and how to knit elastic bands with needles should be based on the size of the product, with which pattern the pattern is combined and, of course, which type is more to your liking.
