The double English elastic band looks original, noble. It is knitted according to a simple pattern, which is slightly different from the classic one. To do this, you just need to dial the loops, the number of which should be divisible by four, and additionally add two edge loops.

How to knit a scarf with an English elastic pattern

Required materials and tools:

  • 200 g cashmere yarn;
  • Knitting needles number 3.5.

  1. Cast on thirty loops.

Simple and voluminous English gum: what is the difference

Even visually, examining a sample of a pattern, it is not immediately possible to notice the difference between a simple and voluminous English elastic band. In fact, there are still differences. For a volumetric one, an odd number of loops is typed, and for a simple one - an even one. In addition, a more luxuriant product will turn out if you use a bulky elastic pattern. At the same time, a simple scheme is more understandable for beginners. There is no need to make yarn overs and simply toss stitches from knitting needles to knitting needles. It is impossible to get confused here.

Even visually, examining a sample of a pattern, it is not immediately possible to notice the difference between a simple and voluminous English elastic band.

The simple gum scheme is as follows:

  1. Cast on an even number of loops.
  2. Remove the edge, and then knit a pair of front and the same number of purls.

Ways to knit Polish gum

  1. Cast on a multiple of three the number of loops, one additionally for symmetry and a couple of edging.
  2. The odd lines are knitted in a clear sequence, starting with one purl loop, followed by one not knitted and front loop. After that, the front skip is done.
  3. The ending loop in this row should be purl.
  4. All even rows are performed in a different sequence. The front goes first, then one not knitted is removed and the purl immediately follows. Not knitted is returned to the left knitting needle and is knitted with a purl loop. This row should end with a front loop.

The whole product is knitted according to this principle.

The subtleties and secrets of knitting a beautiful English elastic band

  • To get an even fabric and avoid skewed edges, a set of loops must be made with a thickened edge. It is imperative to complete the finished product with a double thread.
  • The pattern of the English elastic band is completely unsuitable for items of clothing that "keep" their shape, for example, sleeve cuffs or the bottom of a sweater.
  • Select threads with needles proportionally, the thicker the thread, the thicker the diameter of the needles should be.   • Be sure to remember and keep in mind that a scarf that is tied with an English elastic band really stretches a lot after washing. To get started, we collect loops. The number of regular loops must be naturally odd. For the sample, we cast 35 stitches.
In order for the edges of the product to be even, the first loop, naturally of each row, must be completely removed, without knitting at all, the corresponding thread should remain behind the product. The last loop must always be knit purl, regardless of the pattern.

The first row - we make one single yarn, then we completely remove one loop, without knitting at all, the thread remains behind the product, one loop is knitted with the front one.
We turn the product over to the wrong side.
The second row - we make one single yarn, then we completely remove one loop, without knitting at all, the thread remains behind the product, then we knit two small loops, be sure to knit together. Here you should pay attention to the drawing, which clearly shows which two loops should be knitted together - this is a yarn, as you understand, from the previous row and a loop that was removed without knitting.
We turn the product over, knit the next row.
The third row - we carefully knit two loops together with the front one, then the yarn over, removes one loop, the thread remains behind the product.
Next, we repeat the pattern from the second row.

Having knitted about 5 centimeters, you can already clearly see the structure of the knitted elastic.
It is important to finish the products from the English elastic band correctly, otherwise if we make a scarf. Its edges will be of different widths.

So, we knit the last row of the English elastic in this way: we remove a single loop, as well as in the pattern, we knit 2 together, but we do not make a yarn. This allows us to reduce the number of loops to 35, as it was originally.
Now we finish the product from the English elastic band in the same way as any other product.

For the sample, cast on an even number of loops. In order to get a strip of a given color with a height of 1 pigtail, you need to knit 2 rows with a thread of this color. For example, to get a blue stripe one pigtail high, we knit as follows:
1 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (1 person, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 loop without knitting), 1 chrome;
2 row (blue thread) - 1 chrome, (knit 1 face together with the adjacent yarn, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 wrong yarn without knitting), 1 chrome;
To get the same white stripe, we knit the next 2 rows in the same way, but with a white thread:

Accordingly, to get a strip with a height of 2, 3, 4, ..., n braids, it is necessary to knit 2 * n rows with a thread of a given color.
According to this principle, using the appropriate descriptions, you can knit English elastic bands 2x1, 2x2, as well as multi-color horizontal stripes.

CIRCULAR KNITTING OF ENGLISH RUBBER

For the sample, we collect 33 loops. We distribute them 8 for each knitting needle. There should be 9 loops on the 4th knitting needle. We reshoot this 9th loop on the 1st knitting needle and knit one of the first two loops (there are 8 loops on the 4th knitting needle). So we closed knitting in a circle. Now you can start knitting the main pattern:
1 circular row - (1 front, 1 purl);
2 circular row - (1 front, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 purl without knitting);
3 circular row - (1 reverse yarn, 1 knit yarn off without knitting, 1 purl loop with an adjacent yarn knit with a purl loop);
4 circular row - (knit 1 front with an adjacent yarn with a front loop, 1 reverse yarn, remove 1 purl without knitting);
Then the pattern is repeated from 3 rows.

Two-tone English round elastic

For the sample we cast 33 loops with white thread. We distribute them 8 for each knitting needle. There should be 9 loops on the 4th knitting needle. Straight and back rows, while you need to dial an odd number of initial loops. The first and last thread bows are edging, they form a neat edge of the product, but they are not taken into account when describing the pattern!


The beginner will need to make a few samples of the rubber band, measuring 10 x 10 cm, before starting to create the main canvas. It is important to make sure that the pattern is neat, without errors, the loops are even and the same. The sample will allow you to calculate the size of the future product.


The simplest English elastic band for is performed by alternating front loops and straight yarns. Knit the first row of the pattern in the following sequence:


Knit stitch and yarn;


Remove the next thread bow on the right knitting needle, but do not knit;


Make sure the thread is behind the knitting;


Continue these alternations to the end of the row.


Start the next row of English elastic with a yarn over, remove the next string bow, leaving the thread behind the knitting. Now in front of you is the loop and yarn of the lower row. Grab them together with a working knitting needle and knit with the front one. Repeat these manipulations sequentially until you finish the second row.


Start the third row of the pattern by knitting the stitch and crochet together, followed by a new crochet and a removed loop. Next, continue to knit an English elastic band, alternating the second and third rows according to the described pattern.


What is a Fake English Gum


If you have mastered the English gum, you can create an imitation of this spectacular pattern. The technique of knitted fabric will be even more simplified, while outwardly distinguishing a fake English elastic band from a regular one will be impossible.


Cast on straight knitting needles any number of loops that will be a multiple of four. Do not forget about edging. In the first row of the pattern, alternate three knits with one purl. In the second row, repeat sequentially:


A pair of facial;


Purl;


Facial.


Follow the pattern by repeating the first and second rows, which make up the rapport of the fake English rubber band.


How to knit a scarf with an English elastic band


Knitted scarves made with a double-sided pattern are very convenient because they can be wrapped around the neck and created. The knitted fabric does not "light up" the unattractive seamy side, as is the case with one-sided reliefs. The product turns out to be elastic and at the same time rather loose.


That is why it is recommended to knit a scarf for beginners with an English elastic band, regular or fake. First, complete several rows of the future product and decide on its width. It is better to choose long knitting needles, their thickness should correspond to the diameter of the working yarn.


Cast on the required number of loops and continue to knit a scarf of the required length with an English elastic band, for example, 1.5 m. Close the final row of the product very carefully, without tightening or deforming the edge. Cut the working thread so that the tail remains about 7-10 cm. Carefully thread it into the fabric of the scarf using a crochet hook.


As you can see, knitting an English elastic with knitting needles for beginners is not such a difficult task. Now you can make a hat, a scarf-snood in the same style and continue to improve in knitting.

And, and now I will show how to knit an elastic band for beginners. We will learn to knit an elastic with 1x1 and 2x2 needles.

An elastic band is one of the most common and versatile, and at the same time, the simplest patterns that every novice needlewoman can easily knit. The elastic is often used for knitting cuffs, collars, sweater edges, jumpers. Vests, in a word, it is used where a springy tight knitting is needed. The elastic is also good for knitting turtlenecks, often used for scarves.
There are many variations of knitting elastic bands, from the simplest to the most complex ones like English elastic, elastic with braids, etc. Consider examples of knitting the simplest elastic band.

Elastic band 1x1.

To knit a 1x1 elastic, you need to dial an even number of standard loops. As an example, we cast on 24 loops, this is enough to see the pattern.

1. Cast on 24 simple loops.

As in any other pattern, the first loop of each row should be removed without knitting, and the last one should always be knitted with a purl. This is necessary so that the edges of the product are even.
We simply remove the first loop, without knitting in any way, knit the second with the purl, the third with the front, and the fourth with the purl. So we continue to the end of the row.

We easily knit the first row as follows: the very initial one, we remove the first loop for the edge, then the front loop, then two purl, two front and again two purl.

So we continue to the end of the row, if you calculated everything correctly, typing the number of your loops, a multiple of four, according to the pattern, the last loop will come out the second purl.

In the same way, you can knit variants of elastic bands 3x3, 2x3, 3x4 if the product is large, etc. As you can see, in terms of elasticity and appearance, they are absolutely not inferior to each other. The choice of the type and how to knit elastic bands with needles should be based on the size of the product, with which pattern the pattern is combined and, of course, which type is more to your liking.
