What to do in childbirth. Special breathing techniques. How to behave for a mother-to-be during the period of uterine contraction

This chart is best printed out and kept in front of your eyes when labor begins. The table is based on the lectures of the childbirth preparation school at the Spaso-Perovsky hospital.

This cheat sheet summarizes instructions on how women should behave in labor. Childbirth has five stages, called phases:

  1. latent (latent) phase, which some women do not even notice - during it, the cervix begins to open and reaches 3-4 cm;
  2. the active phase (contractions), during which the woman in labor usually comes to the hospital - the opening gradually increases to 8 cm;
  3. a transitional phase, during which full dilatation of the cervix is achieved;
  4. the phase of expulsion, or the persistent period in which the child is born;
  5. birth of the placenta.

Each phase of labor has its own characteristics. In the latent phase, contractions are rare, short-lived and almost painless; at the beginning, they last about 30 seconds with an interval of 20-30 minutes; at the end of the latent phase, contractions last up to a minute and the interval between them is reduced to 5-7 minutes. In this phase, you can do household chores, walk, take a shower. You should not sit or lie down - this can slow down contractions and weaken labor. Reducing the interval between contractions to 5-7 minutes is a reason to go to the hospital.

In the active phase, contractions intensify, they become more painful, so it is useful for the woman in labor to start using slow deep breathing. As the intensity of the contractions increases, rapid breathing (like a dog) can be used at the peak of the contraction. Anesthetic massage of the lower back helps many people.

In the transitional phase, the cervical opening is completed, reaching full, the baby's head enters the birth canal. You cannot push at this time, because you can tear the cervix. The midwife asks the woman in labor to breathe several contractions, for a woman this is the most difficult moment of childbirth. But not everyone has it, often the active phase is immediately followed by attempts.

Attempts bring relief to the woman in labor, since with vigorous activity, the pain is more easily tolerated. In addition, the climax has come when the baby is about to be born. Usually, the tugging period does not last long, in 3-5 attempts the child is born. During a fight, it is important to listen to the midwife's commands, push down as if in a hard chair, and not strain your head. During standard childbirth on a chair, the chin of the woman in labor is pressed to the chest, when the contraction approaches, you need to take in air and push, then smoothly (not abruptly) release the air, take another breath and push again. Usually, in one bout, a woman in labor manages to make three attempts. In the interval between contractions (which became very short, about 30 seconds), you need to try to relax and build up strength.

As a rule, in a few attempts, a head is born, in the interval the midwife makes a turn, directing the shoulders, and on the next attempt, it is already much easier, the whole body of the baby is born. the oviparous is laid out on the woman's stomach, it is still connected by the umbilical cord to the placenta, which is still inside the uterus. After a few minutes, the umbilical cord stops pulsing, the baby can already breathe on its own. The umbilical cord is cut, often the father is allowed to do it. The baby is taken to wipe off and suction mucus from the respiratory tract, then the newborn is swaddled and helped by the mother to attach it to the breast. Sometimes babies will take the breast right away to suck up a few drops.

At this time, the midwife ask the woman to push again, and without much effort is born... It is examined to make sure it is intact (parts of the placenta should not remain inside the uterus, so you should not pull on the umbilical cord, the placenta should be born spontaneously).

So, you understand that you have begun labor. What actions are prohibited during childbirth?

* With the onset of childbirth, one should not panic, rush about the apartment, or rush. It is very important to keep your composure and tune in the right way. It is good if all things are collected in advance, because rushing around the apartment in search of what is needed in childbirth is not a pleasant pleasure, especially since at the end of pregnancy the sense of balance is disturbed, weakness and dizziness may occur. Careless movement, especially when taking a shower, is fraught with a fall, as a result of which placental abruption may occur. And this is already an extremely dangerous situation that can lead to significant blood loss in the expectant mother and threaten the baby's life.

* If you forget something of your personal belongings at home, do not be discouraged, because in all maternity hospitals, if necessary, you will be given hospital slippers, a dressing gown, a towel and a nightgown. And they will have time to bring the rest to you while you are in labor. But the documents must not be forgotten. Before leaving home, check that you have a passport, exchange card, insurance policy, and a labor contract, if it has been concluded. So, in the absence of an exchange card, doctors will not have confirmation of the necessary examination, which may serve as a reason for identifying you in a special observational department or for transferring to a special maternity hospital, where unexamined patients, infected and women with suspected infectious diseases give birth. Given that childbirth often begins suddenly, it is better to carry medical documents with you at all times.

∗ Under no circumstances should you get to the hospital by driving yourself. And although the first contractions are not painful, it will be difficult to predict their intensity after even a short period of time. And with strong pain, it will be problematic to get safely to the hospital. So if none of your relatives or friends can take you, then it is better to call the ambulance service.

* Immediately after arriving at the maternity hospital, filling out medical documents will begin, which will be used by doctors during childbirth. Some of the data will be taken from the exchange card, some will be written in according to your words. It is important to accurately answer all questions, in no case should you hide anything, even if it seems to you that this has nothing to do with the events taking place. Thus, a vacuum aspiration transferred 10 years ago can provoke bleeding during childbirth, and blood transfused in early childhood - hemolytic disease in a child. Of course, the doctor should be warned about such risks in advance.

The first stage of labor: you can not be afraid, scream and strain the muscles

* This period is the most painful and longest in time, and its duration, and the well-being of the woman in labor, and the condition of the fetus depend on the correct behavior. The main thing: you must not be afraid of childbirth and birth pain! The strength of the pain sensation depends on the individual characteristics, pain sensitivity, emotional mood of the woman and her attitude towards the appearance of the child. Nature has provided a woman with the pain relievers she needs for childbirth - her body releases hormones of joy and pleasure during labor - endorphins. They help the expectant mother to relax, relieve pain and give a feeling of emotional uplift. However, the mechanism of their production is fragile. If a woman experiences fear, then the secretion of endorphins is reflexively suppressed and a significant amount of adrenaline (stress hormone) is released into the bloodstream, which causes convulsive tension of the muscles, including the muscles of the uterus, which increases the pain.

* In addition, during labor, you must not contract and strain the muscles. With tension, the pain threshold decreases, the blood supply is disrupted, which increases the pain sensation. A vicious circle arises: tension - pain - delayed labor. If during childbirth the muscles are relaxed, then the pain is less, the cervix opens faster, and the child does not experience significant difficulties in moving through the birth canal.

* During the contractions, you can choose a position of the body that is convenient for you: it is allowed to lie on your side, walk, stand on all fours or on your knees. But there are two provisions that are prohibited during childbirth: you cannot lie on your back and sit. In the supine position, the heavy pregnant uterus compresses the large vessels passing behind it, disrupting the blood flow to the heart. In response to this, blood pressure reflexively drops sharply, causing fainting and impaired blood supply to the placenta and fetus. If for some reason you have to lie down during childbirth, then it is better to choose the position on your side.

At the beginning of the first period, sitting is not harmful. However, by its end, the baby's head already enters the birth canal, and, sitting down on a hard surface (chair, bed), the expectant mother creates additional pressure on her. But you can sit on a fitball or toilet - in these cases, such pressure is excluded.

* Practically all maternity hospitals prohibit food and drink during childbirth. This requirement is justified by the fact that during labor, the need for general anesthesia may arise, during which there is a risk of throwing the contents of the stomach into the mouth, and from there into the lungs. This can lead to the development of severe pneumonia. In addition, during contractions, due to the reflex connection existing between the cervix and the stomach, vomiting sometimes occurs. The more contents are in the stomach, the more likely this unpleasant phenomenon is.

* You must not shout during contractions. While screaming, you continuously exhale air, and the breaths are shallow and short. It is known that for the maximum enrichment of the blood with oxygen, which is necessary for both the mother during the period of difficult labor during labor, and the baby, so that he does not experience oxygen starvation, a deep breath is needed. Therefore, instead of screaming at a height, slowly, deeply and rhythmically inhale air through your nose and exhale it through your mouth. If the contractions become very violent, frequent shallow breathing, which also inhales through the nose and exhales through the mouth, will help. But you can't breathe deeply with your mouth in labor, this will lead to rapid drying of the oral mucosa, which is quite painful to bear with the current ban on drinking. If the mucous membrane is still dry, you can rinse your mouth with water without swallowing it.

* During contractions, urination should not be held. Go to the toilet often - at the first urge. Firstly, frequent urination stimulates contractions, and secondly, the overflowing bladder inhibits the movement of the fetus along the birth canal.

Second stage of labor: you can not sit down and push "in the face"

In this period, a woman is more able to control the process of childbirth than in the first. Although the attempts occur involuntarily, a woman can control them to a certain extent, strengthening or restraining if necessary. However, unauthorized actions can harm both mother and child. That is why during this period it is necessary to get together and clearly follow all the instructions of the doctor and midwife.

* When very little is left before the baby is born, you will be escorted to the delivery room. When moving to the birth bed, you cannot sit down - in fact, it means to sit on your child's head. While on the delivery bed, in no case should you squeeze the hips. All of these actions can result in serious injury to the newborn.

* If you have received the "go-ahead", do not spare your efforts. But it is not only the applied force that matters, but also where it is directed. It is important to do it right, you cannot push "in the face". At the same time, the woman in labor greatly strains her face, puffs out her cheeks, small hemorrhages may even form in the eyes and face, but the push is ineffective, the fetal head does not move along the birth canal. The push should be directed downward, towards emptying the body (like the intestines with a stool). In this case, you need to strain the abdominal muscles as much as possible.

* If you do not feel the pull or it is too weak, a doctor and midwife will guide you. It is very important to follow all their instructions exactly. During the birth of a fetus, there are times when it is necessary to reduce the force of attempts. Sometimes, to better promote the child, the doctor may prohibit pushing during one or more contractions. You will not be able to stop the pushing, but you can significantly weaken it in your power. It is necessary to relax and breathe very often and superficially, slightly opening your mouth - "like a dog", or like "inflating a balloon" (upward, into the face, pulling the lips with a tube). Just as in the first stage of childbirth, one should not scream, since the screaming occurs on the exhale, and during the pushing it is necessary to hold the breath. In addition, when screaming, muscles, including the pelvic floor and perineum, contract, which increases the risk of rupture. In addition, screaming interferes with the full interaction of the woman in labor with the medical staff, which is the key to the normal course of the second stage of labor and helps to avoid rupture.

Third stage of labor: you cannot completely relax

After the baby is born, you cannot completely relax, believing that your work is over. After all, the afterbirth has yet to be born, followed by the procedure for examining the birth canal. The baby's place, or placenta, includes the placenta and fetal membranes. The period of its separation can last from 5 minutes to half an hour or a little longer. After a while, you can feel it lasting no more than a minute. This is one of the signs of separation of the placenta from the walls of the uterus, after which the woman is asked to push. But it is worth noting that usually the afterbirth is born without any difficulties.

Important!

During all childbirth, you cannot refuse the necessary medical procedures. For example, in the first stage of labor, vaginal examinations and recording of the fetal heart rate are necessary, which are often uncomfortable for the woman in labor. But these actions help the doctor determine how the childbirth is progressing, assess the child's condition, and, if necessary, prescribe some drugs. Do not strain yourself during doctor's examinations, as stress will only increase the discomfort.

At the time of the vaginal examination, try to relax, breathe frequently and shallowly, do not strain the muscles of the perineum.

Many women are wary of prescribing medication during labor. You have the right to express your attitude to this procedure and a wish not to use it if possible, but remember that sometimes only with the help of medication it is possible to end childbirth with minimal risk to the child.

If any actions of the staff cause you doubts, ask them to clarify the need for certain manipulations.

Greetings my dears! Inessa is back in touch with you. Today we will talk about a topic that many women are even afraid to think about: Childbirth how to behave correctly. If you are already lucky enough to experience all the delights of childbirth, then you understand what it is about, and if you just have to go through this test, then I wish you good luck and patience. Let's start with the fact that childbirth is usually divided into 3 stages, which have their own time frame. Next, we will consider each of these stages separately, and I will give you recommendations on how to behave in each of them.

If you are not yet giving birth on the other side of the screen, then let's go!

Stage 1 of childbirth: how to behave?

How long does labor last and how does it start? This question will not leave indifferent any primiparous girl. After all, the unknown scares us most of all, this is how we are made.

Usually a woman learns about the onset of labor with a decrease in the interval between them, and also if she has . As a rule, a reliable harbinger of a speedy birth is a situation when a cork has come off, which looks like a clot of mucus streaked with blood.

The first stage of childbirth, or as it is also called preparatory, is the most unbearably long and painful, which is divided into 3 phases:

  • latent or latent phase - neck 3.5 cm;
  • active phase - up to 8 cm;
  • decline phase - full disclosure.

During this period, not only the cervix opens, but the birth canal for the baby is softened and smoothed. For all women, this stage takes a different amount of time, although doctors have adopted an average duration of 8-12 hours, and with subsequent childbirth 6-8 hours. What can not be said about impetuous and quick childbirth, when the whole process lasts from 2 to 4 hours.

What do we have to do

If you realized that this was the beginning of labor, and not another training of the uterus, then you need to perform certain actions:

  1. Your first and wisest decision will be get some rest... Why rest? The fact is that a colossal supply of energy will be required further away from you, and by the end of the first period and the beginning of attempts, you will simply be exhausted.

  1. When it is no longer possible to rest, and the contractions become more intense, then you need more upright... You can stand, walk, sit in a special chair with a hole or on the toilet. All this will help the neck to soften and open under the pressure of the baby's weight.
  2. Are the contractions already painful enough? Hooray! We are coming to the end of the first stage. In the meantime, concentrate and relax, accept each contraction with open arms, don't panic and don't be afraid so you will not delay the delivery process.

If you think so, why be afraid? If childbirth has begun, then they have only one way out - to end! And fear will only slow down the process. You don't want to suffer any longer, do you? Then free yourself from the chains of fear and take all this torment for granted that very soon you will meet a new person who will enter this life thanks to your patience and efforts.

  1. Go to the toilet on a small need as much as possible more often, which will facilitate the work of both the uterus and your baby, even if every 5 minutes.
  2. Helps to relax well breathing exercises... Can you do it? If not, then I'll teach you.

Latent phase

In the latent phase, you need to apply the tactics of economical breathing. How to do it? Lie flat on your back and place your hands on your stomach. Inhale deeply through your nose, and then exhale slowly “into the tube”. Did your hands go up first and then go down? If yes, then you are a very clever girl - the technique is done correctly! Such breathing helps to tune in the right mood and accelerates the opening of the neck.

Then the active phase begins, when even and calm breathing becomes simply impossible. How should you breathe correctly in such a situation? Probably everyone has heard about breathing "like a dog", during which a woman quickly breathes superficially through her nose during a fight. At the beginning and end of the contraction, you must take a deep breath in and out.

As a result of performing these actions, the process of giving birth to a puzzler will not only speed up a little, but you will also be able to mentally prepare and endure fights more easily with less loss of energy and strength.

Stage 2 of childbirth: how to behave?

With the beginning of the second stage, the forces leave the body at an incredible speed, and when it seems that there are no more forces, it appears - the whole meaning of your life. The first baby's cry, a storm of emotions, happiness, joy and fear, all this now overwhelms mommy, pain and emptiness go nowhere, and the third stage of childbirth, examination, stitching are trifles that no longer bother a woman.

How to behave correctly so that the meeting with the baby occurs as soon as possible and without negative consequences for both the mother and the baby?

Correct breathing is again the main helper during pushing. The most common mistake many women make is pushing in the face. It turns out that in fact the woman is pushing, but wrong. Such attempts are not able to lead to the advancement and release of the child from the birth canal. Therefore, the answer to the question: "How to push correctly?" - lies in the special breathing technique:

At the time of the contraction, take a deep breath, then exhale slowly and direct all the effort into the stomach. To understand that breathing is done correctly, pay attention to whether you feel tension in your head or face as you exhale? If you do not feel tension, then you are doing everything right.

Of course, the most important thing at this stage is to listen to the doctor and the midwife, because who, if not them, knows how and when to push, and when it is necessary to be patient and wait. So keep your mind clear, don't panic, and listen carefully to the directions!

Stage 3 of childbirth: how to behave?

This period is the easiest and most painless in comparison with the two previous ones, but no less significant, since the further health of the woman in labor depends on it. Usually, at this stage, the woman reacts rather calmly to all the instructions of the doctors, and in general she clearly perceives everything that is happening.

Why is this happening, because the pain of childbirth has not yet been forgotten, contractions, albeit less painful, are still present, and tears, tears and cuts hurt, and the whole body aches. But nature is known to be a skillful and intelligent creator. Immediately after childbirth, the hormone oxytocin is released into the woman's blood in large quantities, which, in addition to its many functions, is designed to cause a feeling of happiness and joy, the woman is in euphoria, so it does not prevent the doctor from performing further manipulations. Even suturing is perceived quite calmly.

If you are reading this article, then this is already the first step towards a safe and easy childbirth. Next, you need to learn how to breathe correctly and understand your body so as not to lose composure in stressful and extreme situations. Yoga, gymnastics for pregnant women, special courses for expectant mothers will help you with this. Start by engaging in breathing exercises for 10 minutes a day. Also practice directing the pushing force not to your face, but to your stomach.

Features of behavior in non-standard situations

There are situations that are quite rare, such as breech delivery. Usually, in such a situation, a decision is made to perform a caesarean section. However, it may also happen that childbirth will take place naturally. In this case, pain relief is recommended because:

  • at any time, a decision can be made about the need for a cesarean section;
  • during natural childbirth, they almost always resort to dissection of the perineum;
  • pain from contractions can simply cloud the mind, which is unacceptable, because a woman needs maximum attention and effort.

According to statistics, most often breech presentation occurs during early childbirth, when the baby is still not large enough and has the ability to "surf the open spaces" of the uterus.

Another situation is late childbirth, when the baby resists leaving his cozy warm house. In this case, labor is often stimulated.

What stimulates labor activity:

  • oxytocin or prostaglandin is administered intravenously;
  • pierce the fetal bladder to drain water;
  • a tampon soaked in hormones is inserted into the vagina;
  • use special drugs.

In any case, stimulation is an intervention in a natural process, which sometimes, alas, is indispensable. How long is labor stimulation used? If by 41 weeks you have not yet met your baby, then you will be put in a maternity hospital, where you will be under the strict supervision of doctors, who will decide your further fate, based on the situation.

How to tune in to stimulate labor?

The most important thing is not to panic and not give up stimulation, because if the doctors decided on such an appointment, it means that they had a good reason for this. You can wait until childbirth begins on its own for no more than 42 weeks with an ideal pregnancy. Otherwise, you simply risk harming your baby and yourself. Therefore, trust the doctor, relax and tune in, all your knowledge and skills will be required from you, because artificial births are often more painful and difficult.

If you have personal positive experience in how to relieve pain during labor and how to behave in general during childbirth, then be sure to share in the comments. I will be very grateful to you.

The birth of a baby is a happy event for every family. However, many women have to recover for a long time due to the healing of stitches, and the joy can be clouded by poor health, discomfort and pain. Those who have already given birth to one or more children have an idea of labor, but primiparous mothers, especially, are interested in how to behave during childbirth and contractions in order to give birth easily and without breaks.

The fear of a woman about the upcoming birth is quite understandable, but one should never forget that this is, first of all, the joy of having a long-awaited child. Therefore, first of all, a woman in labor should push aside negative thoughts and try to think positively. Of course, hard work lies ahead, but the reward will be a meeting with your baby.

In fact, the mood of the mother is transmitted to the baby in her womb, and when the fear goes off scale, the child also begins to get nervous. There is no need to think about pain - this is a transient phenomenon, it is better to remember those who are worried about their mother and are looking forward to her return from the hospital.

You should know how to behave during childbirth and labor, and then, thanks to the presence of mind, childbirth will be easier and faster. Usually, labor is divided into three main stages:

  1. Preparing the uterus and baby for birth during labor;
  2. Childbirth through pushing;
  3. The final phase with the loss of the placenta.

In this regard, during preparation for childbirth, a woman should:

  • Master the technique of correct breathing;
  • Find the most successful posture that helps to give birth, and, at the same time, safe for the condition of the fetus;
  • Learn to push correctly so as not to injure the child and avoid tearing.

Primiparous mothers may not know, but screaming during childbirth is not desirable, since the baby may experience oxygen starvation, and it is also difficult for him to move along the birth canal. In addition, fear, although it is a psychological condition, can exacerbate real pain.

Correct breathing, pushing and posture

It is better for a woman to learn how to breathe in advance, moreover, it is necessary to learn this, so she will have to practice during pregnancy.

This can be done by enrolling in special courses that she can attend with her husband. It is important that a specific breathing should correspond to each stage of labor.

Of course, the doctor will also tell her how to behave, but a woman must master three basic techniques in advance:

  • At the initial contractions, breathing should be used with a count - you must inhale during a spasm, and exhale very slowly in just a few seconds. Usually, when inhaling, count up to four, and when exhaling, up to six.
  • When strong and painful contractions are present, breathe like a dog - inhale and exhale quickly and rhythmically.
  • During the birth of a child, breathing is characterized by deep inhalation and strong exhalation with pressure directed to the lower abdomen - the uterus and vagina.

Competent breathing provides the fetus with a normal oxygen supply, reduces pain, and contributes to the rapid completion of the labor process.

When discussing how to behave during labor and labor, it is not only about breathing, but also about the optimal posture of the woman in labor. There is no single ideal position for everyone for the most convenient expulsion of the fetus, since the body of every woman has its own characteristics, both physiological and anatomical.

But it has been noticed that some women find it more convenient to give birth in a position on all fours, although everything is in the same horizontal position - for this, the woman in labor should try to take this position on her back, pulling her knees as much as possible and tilting her face forward to her chest. Sometimes a woman can intuitively feel how she should turn or lie down. If this does not threaten the child, the doctor will tell you how best to do it during the contractions.

It is very important to do the pushing correctly. The intensity of pain, the appearance or absence of tears depends on this. In addition, pushing incorrectly can result in injury to the infant.

What not to do when trying:

  • When pushing, you should not strain the muscles, as this inhibits the passage of the child through the birth canal - if the muscle tissue is relaxed, the uterus opens much faster, and the pain is not so strong.
  • Do not put pressure on the head or rectum - only in the lower abdomen.
  • It is forbidden to push with full force until the uterus opens, as this leads to rupture of the perineum and damage to the baby.

On average, one fight should have two or three attempts. A woman in labor should not rush things - in any case, the child will be born at the right time, but the mother needs to unquestioningly listen to the doctor's instructions.

How to behave during labor and labor to give birth easily and without tearing

So, the very first stage is, in fact, contractions, the purpose of which is to open the cervix in order to let the baby in.

How to behave during contractions

This period can take from 3-4 to 12 or more hours. In women giving birth for the first time, the process can take 24 hours. Usually, contractions start every 15-20 minutes, gradually increasing over time. At the same time, the intervals between them are reduced. A woman needs to control their onset, since the doctor can deduce a certain labor algorithm from these calculations and help the woman in labor in time. If the contractions are repeated every 15 minutes, it's time to go to the hospital.

When the contractions of the uterus are repeated every 5 minutes, this can mean an imminent expulsion of the fetus, that is, the birth of a baby. Usually, severe cramps occur in the lower abdomen, as well as in the lumbar spine. Expectant mothers cannot eat at this moment - they can only drink water.

The third phase of contractions can last up to four hours or more. A woman should definitely rest in short intervals between them. When the pain is especially severe, you can drown it with rapid breathing.

How to push correctly during childbirth so that there are no tears

Attempts are the most important and crucial moment when a baby is born. The contractions accelerate, repeating every minute, and the woman in labor begins to feel powerful pressure on the anus. At this time, a woman needs to get together and make every effort to help her child. To hold on, the woman in labor can grab the special handrails of the table. Next, she will need to take a deep breath, hold her breath, and press her head in an elevated state to her chest.

It happens that the attempts are weak, in which case the doctor usually allows one or two contractions to be missed. At the same time, a woman should relax as much as possible and breathe often. Later, she will be able to perform the most fruitful expulsion of the fetus.

Doctors note that during childbirth, the expectant mother should not think of voluntary urination or even emptying of the intestines, since restraint and tension can harm both the baby and herself. Do not forget that childbirth is a difficult natural process and a huge load on internal organs, including the bladder and intestines. Moreover, during labor, a woman has a more important job than wasting extra energy on unnecessary thoughts and embarrassment.

After the birth of the child, it is still too early for the mother to relax, although, of course, leaving the baby seat is the most painless stage during childbirth. After a while, contractions begin again, but they are very weak. During the next push, the fetal membranes and the placenta should ideally separate. This can take a different amount of time - from a few to 30-40 minutes. It happens that the afterbirth does not come out completely, and then the doctor will have to remove its remnants. If the child's place has completely departed, an examination by a gynecologist of the birth canal will follow. As a rule, this process takes place without complications.

A woman needs not only to know how to behave during childbirth and contractions - in addition, all the recommendations of the obstetrician should be followed, vaginal examinations should be performed, if they are necessary to determine important points in the labor process. Often women in labor refuse to stimulate weak labor with the help of drug therapy, but sometimes such a doctor's decision is made not without reason. There are cases when the appropriate drugs helped the child to avoid injuries and health complications in the future.

Women who cannot get rid of negative thoughts about upcoming trials, pain and breakdowns can be advised to undergo training using special gymnastics, massage and breathing exercises so that she feels more confident. A good psychologist who can tune the expectant mother in a positive way will also help. In the end, the pain will pass, but the most precious thing in a mother's life will remain - her beloved child.

Throughout pregnancy, a woman thinks about the upcoming birth of a baby. Because, how much the expectant mother is aware of how to behave during childbirth, which is permitted and prohibited. The well-being of delivery depends on the actions of the woman in labor.

Several signs point to an early start. The body of every woman is different, therefore the harbingers may be different. Paying attention to them, the woman in labor will be able to arrive at the hospital on time.

Signs of the onset of labor:

  • the stomach falls;
  • the mucous plug leaves;
  • the cervix changes;
  • discharge increases;
  • fetal movement decreases;
  • training contractions appear.

When the stomach drops, the expectant mother needs to start preparing for the trip to the hospital. At the first childbirth of a woman, the appearance of the baby falls on the 10-20th day after she noted the prolapse. With the second - for 2-4 days, sometimes after a few hours. Under the influence of estrogen, the discharge becomes liquid, mucus is noted. See a doctor to confirm or deny amniotic fluid leakage. The mucous plug leaves at different times from two weeks before the time of the onset of the contractions.

Childbirth is a natural but painful process. The duration of delivery takes from two to twenty hours. The first time the period is 12 to 18 hours. The second time, less time passes, since the tissues of the birth canal are elastic and prepared for stretching.

According to Komarovsky, preparation is carried out in three directions:

  • women in labor;
  • partner;
  • places where the process will take place.

With contractions before childbirth, a woman needs to learn how to breathe correctly, take deep breaths, and hold her breath. This will reduce pain and prevent tears and cracks. Special trainings and training videos will help you to behave correctly.

Phased behavior

Despite the emotional state, a woman needs to behave calmly during childbirth, as this will help to tune in to a positive outcome. At this time, they remain calm, avoid actions that negatively affect the course of the process. The length of the period depends on individual characteristics. The uterus opens during childbirth, reaches 10 cm, the child begins to move along the birth canal. Each increase in the uterus is accompanied by contractions.

Childbirth behavior by stages:

  1. at the first stage of contractions, a woman suffers uterine spasms, breathes deeply, uses self-massage, affects biologically active points;
  2. during attempts to push three times in one contraction without pressing on the uterus;
  3. in the third phase of rejection of the placenta, the contraction must be breathed out once, then pushing.

Depending on the period of labor, contractions may be infrequent, then intensify and become frequent. A woman needs to record the duration of the breaks between them, so as not to miss the moment. At this time, painful sensations arise in the lower back, in the lower abdomen, in the legs. Anxiety, agitated state, uncertainty are noted in a woman in labor.

How to behave correctly during childbirth for a woman:

  • keep track of time;
  • breathe correctly;
  • listen to the advice of a midwife;
  • do not shout;
  • relax;
  • find a comfortable position;
  • push.

Helpful advice will help the woman in labor prepare for the process. At first, you need to rest. It is better to sleep at night, to do household chores during the day: prepare food, pack a bag, tune in to a positive outcome of delivery and arm yourself with the support of relatives.

The next stage will begin in the maternity hospital, when it is necessary to take the correct posture. During childbirth, they practice an upright position, as the force of gravity acts. The uterus opens, labor passes quickly, does not drag on. Massaging the lower back and sacrum will help to relax the abdomen, relieve tension from the spine, which will lead to a decrease in pain. Regardless of the position chosen, the legs are placed so that they are wide apart.

At the onset of contractions, the woman behaves actively, but does not forget to rest. You need to save your strength, since the third stage is ahead, when you have to make an effort so that the fetus is born. During attempts to mobilize forces, listen to the midwife. Her tips will help you understand how to push and breathe correctly.

Actions during contractions

Many pregnant women do not know how to behave correctly at the first contractions. The stages of childbirth go in a certain sequence. The first period is the most painful and longest. Contractions pass, then attempts and natural childbirth begins. Correct behavior affects the duration, well-being of the woman in labor and the condition of the fetus.

How to behave during contractions:

  1. take an upright position and walk so that the uterus opens faster;
  2. perform circular movements with the pelvis using an inflatable ball;
  3. do massage of the sacral area;
  4. breathe correctly to eliminate oxygen starvation of the baby.

During contractions and childbirth, the woman in labor should not strain the muscles, otherwise the pain will only intensify. There is tension, the delivery process slows down. The severity of pain depends on the characteristics of the body, pain sensitivity, emotional mood of the woman. During contractions, endorphins are released, which help to relax and relieve pain. If labor has begun, with relaxed muscles, the cervix opens faster, there are no difficulties in moving through the birth canal.

What to take to the delivery room:

  • slippers;
  • socks;
  • compression underwear;
  • water;
  • mobile phone;
  • first clothes for a newborn.

During the contractions, choose a comfortable position. It is allowed to lie on its side, walk, and stand on all fours. You cannot sit and lie on your back. This leads to squeezing of large vessels, impaired blood flow to the heart. The woman's blood pressure drops.

What is the best thing to do during contractions:

  1. do not lie;
  2. move;
  3. take a comfortable position;
  4. massage;
  5. pay attention to breathing.

At the beginning of labor, when the contractions have begun, the woman can sit up. It is recommended to use a fitball. By the end of the process, the head is cut into the birth canal. Sitting down, additional pressure is created, therefore, preference is given to the lying position.

Can I drink during childbirth? Eating and drinking is prohibited in the delivery room. During childbirth, it becomes necessary to use anesthesia. The woman is often nauseous, so the stomach should be empty.

Pushing behavior

At this stage, the mother is in control of the birthing process. Although contractions occur involuntarily, they can be controlled by strengthening or holding them back. The woman is transferred to the prenatal ward, at this time and will need to remember the advice of doctors. It is necessary to prepare for the meeting with the baby.

How to behave when trying:

  • stay on the bed;
  • take a horizontal position;
  • do not squeeze the hips;
  • do not push in the face.

If the woman in labor strains, sulks, hemorrhages will appear in her eyes and face. The push is directed towards emptying the body. If a woman is weak, the obstetrician guides the persistent period in order to increase or decrease strength in time. To do this, they relax, breathe frequently and shallowly. You can't scream, as the muscles contract, which leads to rupture.

How not to harm your baby during childbirth:

  1. push with the permission of the midwife;
  2. do not raise the pelvis;
  3. collect energy in the area of the abdominal muscles;
  4. relax in time between contractions.

After the appearance of the baby, the mother is waiting for the third final stage - the birth of the placenta and examination of the birth canal. The separation takes 5-30 minutes. The woman feels weak contractions that pass quickly.

How to behave correctly for your husband during childbirth:

  • make sure the wife relaxes;
  • provide moral support;
  • comfort;
  • to praise;
  • do massage if necessary.

Correct actions during childbirth will help to recover faster, the woman will be able to play sports. This will avoid the transition of psychological discomfort to physical and will not harm the woman in labor and the baby.

What happens after childbirth

Recovery is an important stage that will go faster if a woman knows what to do. Everything happens gradually, there is no need to rush. Conventionally, the process is divided into two parts: the first hours and days after delivery. The mother is transferred to the delivery room under the supervision of doctors. Sometimes there is fever, thirst, chills. At this stage, the uterus is examined, massage is done.

After a few days, such care will no longer be needed, as the condition improves over time. After childbirth, muscle pain appears, cramping sensations. At this time, postpartum contraction of the uterus occurs. With tears, discomfort occurs in the perineum and chest.

The mom needs rest and hygiene. During the period of active healing, one should not sit down due to the danger of rupture of the seams. Within a week, the woman is examined for control over the absence of infection.

In the first weeks, pain remains. Allocations last up to two months. It is important to watch your seams while you shower. Adhesions are treated with antiseptics. The scar appears a week after giving birth. In the absence of complications, the discharge is made for 3-5 days. If psychological discomfort arises, the mother needs to walk and rest more.

How to behave after childbirth:

  1. lie on your stomach so that the clots come out;
  2. apply ice for half an hour;
  3. in the first hour, massage is done in order to check that there are no remnants of the placenta;
  4. an hour later, the woman in labor is transferred to the ward, relieves pain, monitors the general condition;
  5. after 8 hours, all indicators are measured: pressure, temperature, pulse.

After a cesarean section, the same manipulations are carried out, only the time spent by the woman in labor under the supervision of an obstetrician increases. Then the woman with the baby is transferred to the ward. If a woman in labor is with her husband, dad will look after the newborn so that mom can rest.

How to behave with your wife after childbirth:

  • give a woman a rest for the first days: sleep, recover;
  • help to establish lactation: with nutrition, more often offer to apply the newborn to the breast;
  • help physically: bring things, escort to the toilet;
  • take over household chores for the first 2 weeks;
  • not to be offended, to be calm, to understand that the spouse has endured stress, is weak physically and psychologically.

Mom often thinks about how to withstand the mental and physical stress. The husband will come to the rescue. Dad will be there to take care of the baby.

After giving birth, a woman has a greater responsibility than during pregnancy. The body is depleted in order to recover, you need to walk, enjoy communication with the baby, concentrate on positive emotions. Pay attention to proper nutrition and moderate exercise.
