How to make a paper head mask. We make carnival masks with our own hands: paper templates for the best looks. DIY paper mask is very simple

Take three to four cardboard colors. You will need about three to four different colors of cardboard for this fun mask. Take sheets of standard size. You also need a standard white sheet for the eyes, but you need to use cardboard at the base of the mask, because it is dense.

  • You can, of course, cut the mask from just one sheet, but using different colors gives you a choice of any color combinations.

Fold a piece of cardboard in half and cut off the bottom corners. The mask can be of all kinds of shapes and sizes. This particular mask will be oval like a real human face. To create an oval shape, fold one piece of cardboard in half, then cut the corners opposite the fold, giving the mask a rounded look. When you unfold the mask, you should get a symmetrical oval. He will serve as the face of the mask.

Cut out two smaller ovals from the second piece of cardboard. Cut another piece of cardboard in half along the fold. Then cut two small ovals from the resulting sheets using the method described above: fold the sheet in half, and then cut the corners opposite the fold, rounding them.

  • The resulting ovals are not eyes in themselves - rather, they are the outlines of the eyes. Therefore, they should be slightly larger than the eyes you want.
  • Glue your eyes to your face wherever you want. Attach the eyes to the mask using glue, glue stick, tape, or other adhesive. Make sure your eyes are level, unless you want them to be misaligned.

Cut out two ovals from the white sheet and glue them to the mask. Take a white sheet - it can be cardboard, or a standard 8x11 sheet and cut out the ovals using the method described above. These will be the eyes themselves, so they should be slightly smaller than the glued outlines of the eyes. When your eyes are ready, glue each one in the center of each of the larger eye outlines that are already on the face.

Draw the pupils. Use a black pen or felt-tip pen to draw the pupils of your eyes (black circles in the center of the eyeballs). The pupils will not only give the mask a more realistic look, but will also help to hide the holes you make in the mask to see.

Cut out the nose from the remnants of the cardboard you used to outline the eyes. For the nose, you can use the oval technique above and then add small indentations to make the nostrils. Alternatively, you can use a simple triangle or a more realistic crooked nose - the choice is yours.

    • When ready, glue it in the center of the mask under the eyes.
  • Cut out a couple of thin pieces for the eyebrows. Take the remnants of the colored cardboard used for the outline of the eyes to cut the eyebrows out of it. Glue them over your eyes. Here you have tons of options - you can cut thin eyebrows, thick ones, curved ones, and even zigzag ones.

  • Cut out the mouth from the third sheet of colored cardboard. Fold the third sheet of colored cardboard in half. Cut out the shape of a curved saber or horn so that it is thickest at the fold, getting thinner as it goes to the “open” end of the folded cardboard. When you unfold it, you will have a smiling mouth (or, if you flip it, an angry one). Glue it to the mask under your nose.

    • If you still have white paper, you can cut out small square teeth for the mouth.
  • Use curly paper strips to create your mask. Take a piece of paper of any color and cut long strips to length. Leave a short section along the other side of the paper - in other words, do not cut the sheet completely. Then use scissors to curl your hair - hold one blade of the scissors against the paper, then pull it down the length of the strip. This step is exactly the same as the process for winding the tape.

    • To speed up this step, stack two sheets at once - so, you cut two sheets at once into strips, twist strips of two sheets at the same time, etc.

As a rule, a carnival mask serves as an addition to a New Year's costume, but it may also be a separate accessory. It allows you to create a mysterious image at a holiday, or vice versa, to concentrate all your attention on yourself. Today, you can make any carnival mask with your own hands, especially for children, and involve a child in this interesting business. The creation of a carnival accessory made of cardboard is quite a fascinating business that helps to develop creativity, the child learns the skills of work.

    Varieties

Any celebration is fun and interesting, if the guests are dressed in fancy dress, it can be a certain theme or New Year's holidays, a children's birthday or a theatrical performance, a matinee or a fancy-dress evening. The main detail is not only a costume, but also a mask that transforms the appearance so that a person simply cannot be recognized, a kind of intrigue is created. And for a children's carnival evening, the mask will be an ideal option, especially since you can make it yourself.

Before you start making, you need to know what carnival decorations exist and what will be required to make them.

    1. Decorative masks, the material of manufacture is cardboard or plain paper, fabric or clay, papier-mâché, an elastic band is used for fastening or a special handle is made.
    2. Masquerade accessories in the form of a hat, in most cases, this is a children's option, because toddlers are afraid to hide their face completely. Such a product is fixed on a paper rim and sits on the head like a hat, the child does not feel any discomfort.
    3. Products for the lower part of the face, an original type of carnival mask, is most suitable when children prefer to completely immerse themselves in a fairy-tale image.
    4. A full-face carnival mask, such a product is made in the form of the muzzle of some animal or fairy-tale character, great for matinees or fairy-tale performances.
    5. A voluminous mask that can cover the entire face or the upper part of it. It does not interfere during movement, due to the fact that it is created clearly along the contours of the face, cardboard and polymer clay are used for its manufacture.

Any of the accessories presented can be created with your own hands, with the participation of children.

    Cardboard mask

Modern products are easy to make, especially if there are templates, it is enough to cut an image out of paper and glue it according to the instructions. You can also make a beautiful and original masterpiece with your own hands, for example, using paper plates. This will be the main part, and ears, nose and other elements are already glued to it, depending on which character is conceived.

To create a carnival mask from cardboard, you will need materials such as the cardboard material itself, scissors, cut out an image, a simple pencil, paints or felt-tip pens for coloring, as well as decorative trifles, for example, fur or beads, artificial feathers.

First, you need to transfer the outline of the mask to cardboard, then cut and move the image to a denser material. The muzzle of the animal is decorated with paints or pencils, you can also use felt-tip pens, cut out the eyes, add decorations for volumetric realism. All elements can be fixed using simple or special glue. The mask can be attached with an elastic band or with a stick; the length must be correctly calculated so that it is easy for the child to hold it. For the gum, holes are made in the paper with a hole punch, and a wooden stick is glued. For the smallest children, the option of a one-piece mask for the carnival is suitable, so that it does not completely cover the face, it is enough to attach a paper rim and put it on the baby's head.

    Paper carnival mask

You should start with a blank, for this, prepare an A4 sheet, bend it in half and draw half of the future mask, the center of the product should coincide with the bending line. Then mark the place of the bridge of the nose and eyes, cut, straighten and attach to the face to make sure the holes are in the correct position. If necessary, the sketch should be finalized according to the person.

The sketch should be transferred to thick paper, circled with a pencil and carefully cut. In order to prevent violations of the mask, to preserve its integrity, you can use a protective layer in the form of decorative self-adhesive paper. If paints are used for coloring, then it is best to give preference to acrylics, they will not stain clothes, they will create an even and dense layer.

To attach the mask, you can make holes on the sides with a hole punch or blade, then insert an elastic band or thread of the appropriate color. You can decorate the product with any elements of your choice, for example, sequins or sequins, ribbons or laces, beads or bugles, arranging them in any order. Tweezers can be used to create a complex pattern, especially if the decorative elements are very small.

Additionally, the fancy accessory can be decorated with fabric, for example, organza or thin lace, so as not to burden the product once again.

So that the holiday does not deteriorate, and the mask withstands the celebration, it is useful to recall some recommendations:

    • If the product is made of fabric, it is best to starch the material before use, so the mask will keep its shape for a long time.
    • It is preferable to make the inner part of the product from a material that is pleasant to the touch, especially if a long-term use of the carnival attribute is planned.
    • If the mask will depict the muzzle of an animal or fairytale character, then it is best to do it over the entire face.
    • It is undesirable to paint the inside of the product in order to avoid a possible allergic reaction or, even, simply not to stain your face.

    Carnival animal mask

To make a carnival accessory in the form of a face of a bear, fox or wolf, you just need colored paper, glue, scissors, a pencil and a small piece of elastic. If, for example, this is a matinee at school or kindergarten, the child does not need to make a voluminous and reusable mask.

For example, a carnival mask of a bear or a fox can be prepared in an hour, first cut the muzzle out of paper, fold it in half to get completely identical sides, make marks where the eyes will be and correct the contour, if necessary, trim the edges.

The most difficult thing that will seem in this case is the creation of a nose, a volumetric detail that you can quickly glue with your own hands. After the animal's mask is ready, it remains to decorate it, sew an elastic band to it so that it can be attached to the head. In a similar way, easily and quickly, a mask of any other animal, for example, a wolf or a hare, is made.

    DIY cat mask

For work, you need to take paper, scissors, tape, stapler, pencil, glue, paints and fishing line. Fold a sheet of paper, A5 format, in half, then, two times along and across, retreat a maximum of 2 cm from the middle, and make round marks for the eyes. Bend the product along the long side again, pinch it from the wrong side between the eye holes, in the forehead area by half a centimeter, move the grooves and glue the edges of the paper.

Elementary school, kindergarten, carnivals and performances are directly related to children's masks. Many of us unfairly perceive the manufacture of carnival masks as unnecessary chores and problems. It should be remembered that creating masks is a creative process that your child needs primarily for his development and learning. With the help of masks, not only purposeful communication takes place, the development of creative abilities and skills, but also the horizons expand, the imagination develops, the child learns to think and reflect, to improvise. Let's learn together how to make a paper mask.

    Varieties of masks

    1. flat
    2. voluminous
    3. half masks
    4. papier-mache
    5. masks on the hoop

Masks will give your child the opportunity to be someone else. Make his dream come true!

Flat masks can be round, triangular, or any other arbitrary shape. They can be made according to a ready-made template or independently from thick cardboard. Such masks are painted, appliques and additional elements are pasted on them.

Volumetric paper masks are obtained using special undercuts, cuts, gluing and gluing additional pieces of paper. Creating a pattern is a very exciting process, and it does not require a lot of time and skill.

Half masks are good for carnival parties. They are shaped like original glasses and cover only part of the face.

Papier-mâché masks are a more complex variety, but they also look solid and impressive. Having made several blanks from papier-mâché, you can create the most diverse and outstanding masks on their basis.

Masks on the hoop help out if it is difficult for a child to breathe in a mask, dressed directly on his face, or if the child wears glasses. The mask is made according to the usual principle of a flat mask and fixed on a special steel or paper hoop. The hoop should fit the size of the head, and the mask itself may cover part of the face, such as the nose.

    Basic manufacturing rules

For the manufacture of paper masks, paper products and auxiliary items are used as a basis.

A blank is prepared from paper, which is subsequently decorated and modified depending on desire and imagination.

    Main materials:

    • colored and plain paper
    • cardboard
    • newspaper
    • paper plates
    • napkins

    Additional materials:

    • paints, pencils, markers
    • plasticine, clay
    • pieces of fabric, fur, feathers
    • beads, buttons, beads
    • scissors, stapler, needle and thread, hole punch, stationery knife

    Methods for making conventional blanks

The easiest way is to use a ready-made template that can be found on the Internet. Print the template, stick it on thick cardboard. Make holes for the eyes and on the sides, insert the elastic.

Different sizes of paper plates also allow you to create different mask bases.

Look for simple accessible pictures of cartoon characters or animals. Draw them on paper with your child and make masks.

To make a half mask, you just need to take glasses, circle them on paper and cut them out.

Use a paper pattern to make volume masks. To do this, take a thick white sheet of paper ½ of a landscape sheet. Bending the sheet in half, we get the line of the nose, once again in half - the line of the eyes.

Make slits at the temples and up to the middle of the eyebrows on the forehead. To keep the nose bulging, pinch it from the inside with a stapler.

Bring the grooves on the forehead behind each other and glue. Glue the corners at the temples inward. Pull the nose from the front a little forward and glue it.

This blank can be used to create masks for various characters. Glue the ears, change the nose and eyes, combine the colors.

    Papier-mâché blank masks

You will need a balloon, glue, and newspaper. Divide the newspaper into small pieces and glue the balloon with them. After making a few layers, let them dry.

After the layers are enough and they dry well, cut the workpiece in two. You have received two blanks for future masks. Cut holes for the eyes with a clerical knife and get creative with the mask.

Take newspapers from two different publishers (with different fonts) or divide the same newspapers into white stripes and stripes with a font. This separation is necessary in order not to get confused with the layers.

Cover your face with petroleum jelly or cream. Dampen the first layer of the pieces of paper with water and apply to your face. The layer should be dense and large. Alternate subsequent layers (depending on the publisher or font) and apply with glue to the first layers.

When the desired thickness is reached, remove the workpiece and let it dry well. Cut holes for the eyes, trim and trim the edges.

Make a plasticine frame. Plasticine is convenient in that it can be used to create the desired image in advance. Divide the paper, preferably newspaper, into small pieces.

Cover the plasticine with a thin film and glue the pieces of paper. Remember to dry the finished layers. Glue on top with plain thick paper. After a few hours, remove the workpiece from the frame.

    How to make a nose?

Sculpt a nose of the desired shape from plasticine. Cover it with pieces of torn newspaper. As soon as the nose dries well, carefully remove the plasticine.

The flat cap can be a great spot for a piglet mask.

A half plastic ball or large bubble cap will fit the clown's nose. Punch holes in the sides and tie the straps (to keep the nose from falling).

A folded sheet of paper will fit the nose of a mouse or fox.

Making masks with your child, you create your own world - create it together and with your own hands!

    Examples of paper masks

    Indian mask

For this mask, use two paper plates, large and small. On a large plate, use glasses to circle the eyes and cut them out with a clerical knife.

Use a hole punch on the sides to make two holes for the rubber band. Give the plate the shape of your face.

Paint the mask in the desired color, glue the feathers and glitter. Make a small incision in the middle for the nose.

Cut a small plate in half, fasten or glue one half - this is the nose. Color it in and insert it into the cut, securing it with glue.

In this way, you can prepare masks for a wide variety of characters.

Make a paper frame using undercuts. Cut out the round eyes (they will narrow when you pinch the nose from the inside out), glue cardboard triangles in the slots in the temples, and tape to them. This will come in handy for rubber bands.

Make the ears: semicircular or triangular. Nose - with a bag or ribbon. Don't forget to draw or glue the saber tusks.

    Mouse, fox, hedgehog masks

We use a ready-made frame with grooves. The main thing is to find a sheet of paper that matches the color or paint it in the desired color.

All these masks have a common similarity - a nose bag. Differences in the eyes: in the mouse - round, in the fox - narrow. Ears: fox and hedgehog have triangular ears, mouse - round.

Do not forget about the needles for the hedgehog and the antennae for the chanterelle with the mouse.

When making a mask, consider not only your creativity and availability of free time, but also the age of the child. The child should not only use the mask as an element of the carnival costume, but also take part in its production.

Do not throw away various small objects, broken elements of toys, scraps, corks, children's bright books. When disassembling desk drawers or children's toys, put aside seemingly unnecessary objects that catch your eye. Start a special box and collect them in it.

If educational games with a child are welcome in your family, these seemingly unnecessary items will surely find their use in the future.

Observe the child's preferences, make masks of those heroes that he likes the most. When the process of mastery captivates the child, try to make masks of other unknown heroes, expand the knowledge and imagination of your child.

Turn creativity into play and learning. Come up with fairy tales for your heroes, tell new unknown facts about them. Motivate your child to ask questions, compose fairy tales. Let him invent the next hero himself.

The host tells the story of the carnival: « Carnival as a type of festivities with street processions and theatrical games lives in many countries. The main attributes of any carnival are costumes and masks, which help to hide social differences and equalize everyone during the festival. In Russia, dressing up and having fun in masks was allowed only on Christmas and Maslenitsa. The initiator of masquerades in Russia was Peter I - a passionate lover of dressing up. In 1721, a magnificent street fancy-dress procession was organized ”. You can not only buy a mask in a store, but also make it yourself from a variety of materials: paper, leather, fabric, papier-mâché. Adults and children look at samples of masks. We suggest you make a mask today. Try to create your own masterpiece. And let the flight of your creative imagination help you.

The host explains the technology for making the mask:

Step 1. We draw the outlines of the mask on cardboard. Or outline the mask template. Cut out.

Step 2. We mark the holes for the eyes, cut them out.

Step 3. We decorate the base of the mask with decorative material.

Step 4. We attach an elastic band or ribbon to the carnival mask.

The master class presenter reminds children and adults of the safety rules when working with scissors:

    1. The blades of the scissors should be closed (closed) when inoperative.
    2. The scissors must be passed in rings forward with closed (closed) blades.
    3. Scissors must be used carefully, you cannot swing them so as not to injure your neighbor.

    2. The main part of the master class. Practical work on making a New Year's mask. Product design. The hardest part is over, and our masks are almost ready. Let's leave the masks, let them dry out a little.

The presenter conducts a physical education session for children.

    Here in the cold winter
    The wind blows icy
(Children waving their hands, imitating the wind)
And heaving a cloud of snow.
    He is stern and powerful.
(Children perform circular movements with their hands like a winter whirlwind)
Hares are hiding in the bushes.
    Even the sly fox
(Children sit in a deep squat for a few seconds, then stand up. As if they are bunnies that are hiding from a chanterelle)
    She hid and sits
    Well, the snow flies, flies.
(Children perform movements with their hands, showing the fall of snow)
But the evil blizzard has subsided,
The sun is shining in the sky.
(Stretching - arms to the sides.)
A fox gallops across the field.
    (Jumping.)
    Well, we'll walk a little
    (Walking.)
And we will return home to ourselves.
    (Children sit at tables.)

And now the most interesting thing is that we will start decorating our carnival masks. There are many ways to decorate masks - it all depends on your imagination and sleight of hand, the most popular way to decorate a mask is by sticking various accessories. Everything that lies in front of you on the tables can be used as decorations.

    • Cleaning of workplaces.

The presenter thanks the children and adults. Useful advice: it will be good at the end of the master class to arrange a real carnival to New Year's music, play all together, dance.

    Workshop 4: papier-mâché carnival mask

Another traditional mask-making technique available to children aged 6 and over is the papier-mâché technique. In this technique, you can sculpt a mask of any, the most bizarre shape. How you can make a papier-mâché mask from a regular roll of ... toilet paper, you will learn in this step-by-step video. Babies can also be attracted to making papier-mâché. Of course, it will still be difficult for them to sculpt a mask, but they will be happy to paint it with acrylics.

An example of a children's carnival mask using the papier-mâché technique

Here is a mask made of paper using the papier-mâché technique by Daria Kholina (6 years old). Educator - Elena Anatolyevna Rome (MBDOU "Combined Kindergarten No. 75" Fairy Tale ", Moscow Region, Sergiev Posad District, Shemetovo village, Novy microdistrict).

How to make a mask like this:
