Which buff to choose for running. Sports mask for running in winter: review, description, types and reviews. What are winter running masks?

There are always significantly more summer runners than winter runners. In running circles, they are called "snowdrops" by analogy with the spring influx of visitors to fitness centers. The main stopping factor is the weather, but it can be successfully dealt with. In this article, we will tell you how to protect yourself from the weather and what clothing should be for running in the cold season.

In what to run in the winter on the street?

Warming and selection of running clothes is an individual process. When choosing clothes, consider your own characteristics: cold tolerance, sweating during exercise, body heat. Two different runners can fit one set of clothes at -5 and -15 degrees.

The basic principle of winter running equipment is layering:

  • First layer regulates humidity (thermal underwear). Draws moisture away and keeps skin dry
  • Second layer keeps you warm (long sleeve or fleece)
  • third layer protects from the wind (windproof jacket and pants)

Depending on the weather, you only need to change the number of layers and the thickness of things. Below we have taken a closer look at all the components of a runner's winter clothing.

Winter running socks

Running socks keep you warm, keep you dry and prevent blisters - that's how thermal socks work. For winter running, ordinary synthetic thermal socks, just choose not from the light series. If your feet are constantly cold, pick up thermal socks with wool. And most importantly - do not run in short socks! It's strange to see a runner looking for joint health but running with bare ankles.

Longsleeve

Longsleeve is a long sleeve sweater. Running long sleeves made from synthetic materials. The properties are the same as for all technological clothing: moisture removal, wear resistance, heat retention even after getting wet. Used as a second layer on thermal underwear under a windbreaker in cold weather. In the off-season, it can be used as an outer layer without a windbreaker or jacket.

Windbreakers and jackets

A winter jacket for running should be windproof - this is the main requirement. It is better to have several running jackets of different density:

  • Thin windproof jacket from wind and rain. In combination with thermal underwear and fleece, it can be used in a small minus. For example, Kalenji membrane jacket.
  • Thick running jacket with windstopper (wind protection) and a layer of insulation. Usually these are made of a multilayer material, such as softshell. It combines insulation, protection from wind and moisture. Not all running companies make jackets for harsh winters, so runners use jackets from ski warm-up suits. For example, jacket , Demix or Madshus jacket.

Pants and tights

Depending on the weather, wear padded tights, thin, windproof running pants, or warm softshell pants. Here are some examples of clothes for different weather:

  • In cold weather above 0 - tights
  • At t near 0 and a slight minus - tights with thermal underwear or light pants
  • At t -10 and below - thermal underwear and softshell pants

Buff, gator, bandana

A versatile accessory for any weather. They call it differently: buff, geytor, scarf, bandana, pipe. Despite the thin material, it saves the skin from frostbite and warms the throat. Such an accessory A must have for every winter runner.

How to use bandana buff?

Hat for running in winter

Hat for running in winter it should also wick away moisture, dry quickly and, preferably, have wind protection. For running, it is better to use synthetic hats without wool and cotton. When choosing a hat, always pay attention to the fact that the ears are closed! 30 minutes in the wind with open ears can easily knock down immunity.

Gloves or mittens

Most runners make do running gloves with insulation and a windstopper, but in regions with a harsh climate, mittens are indispensable. Comfortable and technological mittens can be picked up in ski shops. They are worn both separately and over thin running gloves.

    Manufacturers of professional sports goods are constantly striving for the use of high technologies and modern materials. The minimum requirement for development is a double effect, which allows clothes to protect against water and at the same time be "breathable", stretch well, but not stretch.

    In modern lines of sportswear and shoes, preference is given to synthetic materials: hypoallergenic and antibacterial. These things can increase the efficiency of movements, reduce the load on the muscles and joints of the athlete, and control the state of the body. Low weight products, more accurate coverage of the body, increased strength - such materials are in many ways superior to traditional ones. The performance requirements are based on the experience of the athletes.

My respect, dear readers, admirers and other personalities! I think everyone is aware that winter has come in most of Russia. And this means that every self-respecting athlete is faced with a very pressing question, namely: what kind of clothing for running in winter is the most suitable. It is with the “thing” chips that we have to deal with today. We will completely (from head to toe) go through the equipment, consider what is best to stick your nose out in such weather, and also open a small useful bonus.

We will dress and shoe everyone today, i.e. The advice is relevant for both men and women. Here we go!

Winter running clothes: golden rules

This article is a continuation of its predecessor - in which we analyzed the general issues of winter errands and did not particularly focus on winter running clothes. I specifically decided to devote a separate note to this issue, because. it is very relevant and causes a number of difficulties, misunderstandings and other miscellaneous things. Therefore, “absorb” every word :), it will be informative and interesting.

It so happened that we do not live in sunny California or Greece, where people do not know at all what snow is, and even more so - severe cold. A large territory of Russia is at the mercy of winter with its harsh conditions. This leaves its mark on both the training process and the athlete. Winter also makes its own adjustments to running procedures, in particular to questions - what to wear, how to choose the right “clothes”.

Of course, there are a number of rules that will help the runner level out the weather and get the most out of it. Well, let's get to the heart of the matter, and we'll start from the feet, moving higher and higher.

Running clothes in winter: what to wear on your feet

This is the alpha and omega of any running run. The right running shoes (sports boots) - 70% that you would like to go out somewhere. Ordinary (hall) sneakers will not work here, you need those with the following qualities, i.e. which have:

  • soft (elastic) sole, “not rising” (turning into one big piece) in the cold;
  • clear (pronounced) tread pattern - grooved sole;
  • special fasteners (chains) that provide maximum traction;
  • padded interior with fur (can be artificial);
  • upper protective layer against moisture (material nubuck, etc.).
  • winter sneakers should have a waterproof/breathable membrane with a cushioning system in the heel/forefoot;
  • a certain height, above the shin + special tongue (to prevent snow from getting inside);
  • high-quality lacing - dense and long laces;
  • free space (on 0,5-1 larger than natural);
  • interchangeable (easy to pull out) insoles.

In particular, my winter version of running shoes looks like this:

It may also look like this:

Shoes do not have to be branded (Nike, Asics) and expensive, the main thing is that they meet the above criteria, sit comfortably on your foot and feel comfortable in them.

Note:

In large federal sports stores there are a lot of winter options, but their prices are not at all democratic (from 5-6 t.r) . A very good budget option is local clothing markets and non-Russian “sharashki” points. You can always find the model you need there. 3 tr, and bargaining in such establishments is highly welcome.

Running clothes in winter: socks

Many people like to wear woolen socks knitted by their grandmother and a couple of three under them. This option does not suit us at all. Socks must be semi-synthetic, breathable (easily permeable to moisture) and as far as possible without seams. One pair is quite enough up to a temperature of (-15), above - you can wear two.

Socks should be high enough to protect your ankles from the cold.

Note:

There are special running thermal socks - they have a reinforcement of thermal light, elastane and wool in the heel and toe parts. Also their profile (ribbed outsole) gives better contact with shoes.

This is what your winter socks might look like.

We rise higher, and the next step is the top :).

Running will be most effective and comfortable if you are not overloaded with clothes and at the same time are securely insulated. To do this, it is necessary to observe the “principle of cabbage” or three layers:

  • 1 layer: moisture wicking (thermal underwear or underwear with elastane). Thermal underwear allows the skin to breathe, not to feel excessive moisture and not to multiply unnecessary bacteria. While running, the intensity of the work of all systems increases, and the person sweats. Moisture from the surface of the skin should be removed and distributed to the second layer of clothing.
  • 2 layer: heat insulating (retaining heat). The task of this layer is to warm the body and protect it from cooling, transferring moisture to 3 -layer. Options: fleece clothing or sweaters, sweatshirts.
  • 3 layer: protective (from rain/snow/wind). For specialized clothing, these are various technologies such as Windstopper. This layer releases excess heat from the middle layer and creates a "windproof" layer. At the household level, these are various windbreakers, jackets.

It is such puff clothing that allows the athlete to feel as comfortable as possible, i.e. he is “warmth, light and flies do not bite“.

Note:

No need to pack tons of clothes (jacket, sweater, turtleneck, t-shirt) in the hope that it will be warmer, on the contrary, when the body is too warm, it falls into a state of “not turning over” and it does not want to run. Why, because it's so warm. In addition, excessive materialism will make it difficult for you to move, and it will simply be difficult for you to move yourself.

So, let's go a little more in detail.

Running clothes in winter: track pants

If the weather whispers (up to - 15 gr.), Then one pair of trousers is quite enough. If higher, we put on the second ones under them - tights / thermal leggings with fleece. All this disgrace looks like this.

As a basic combat kit, I recommend using specialized winter trousers from Salomon. This is the most budget (up to 2 tr) the layered variant that most of all satisfies our criteria. In particular, your obedient servant runs in them. They look like adults :).

In especially cold weather, it is necessary to additionally insulate the Faberge place. In particular, put on two shorts under your trousers. (shorts/boxers+loose). Here you should not save on rags.

Outer (underwear) clothing for running in winter

An excellent option would be a turtleneck or olympic / running shirt / t-shirt (with long sleeve) breathable material (e.g. polyester).

If there is a dubak on the street (more –15 ), then a great option is sweatshirts / jumpers / jackets with a membrane. All this looks like this.

Outer (surface) clothing for running in winter

As outerwear, a specialized insulated suit (jacket + trousers) is best suited.

Weather permitting, a warm jacket with a windproof/water-repellent membrane or a light down vest can be a good option.

Note:

At the end of the article, I will give my running version in full ammunition.

Let's move on to smaller details, or as I call them “ear-nose-throat” :).

Did you know that through the feet, hands, neck and head a person can lose up to 75% all reserves of thermal energy? In other words, if you have a "gap" in any of these elements, then be sure that you will not be enough for long errands. Therefore, also pay attention to these details of your wardrobe.

Gloves/mittens

Woolen or knitted gloves are a good option for hands, but grandmother's lambswool mittens are 100% option. It is best that the design that you put on your hand is cast (i.e. there was no separation of the fingers). This will allow you to keep warm better.

In warm weather (up to –10 ) you can run in special “technological” gloves from Salomon, Gore-tex.

Balaklava

You also need to take care of your muzzle-face. Winter is a windy season (not in the sense of easy behavior :)), so exposed areas of the face can quickly freeze. To prevent this from happening, use a balaclava - a special mask with slits for the eyes, mouth and oval of the face. It will effectively protect your face.

Beanie

The head is very often blown out, because. is a "ram" that cuts through the cold winter air. Be sure to get a knitted hat (can be fleece lined). On relatively warm days, a winter running baseball cap with neck protection can be worn.

Glasses

In winter it snows very often (wow!), which sometimes makes it difficult to see and from this the movement becomes sluggish. To make things easier for yourself, stock up on (just in case) special goggles that will protect your eyes from oncoming snow and improve visibility.

Note:

When choosing clothes for running in winter, remember that dark colors absorb light energy better. Therefore, having such things at hand, you will be much warmer on runs.

In general, the beach winter wardrobe was dismantled. Now, as I promised, I will give you how all this disgrace looks in the collection.

Now I will present my personal version, which is currently taking place:

Phew, I already felt hot from our article, but, as I said, for the most patient and frost-resistant, I have a small bonus. On the Internet, there is a special (English-language) service that automatically allows you to choose clothes for running, depending on the specified parameters, in particular, outdoor temperature, wind, and so on.

All you have to do is set the necessary initial data, and the service will offer its recommendations on what is better to "show off". Here is a good example.

That's all, our clothing article has come to an end, we will say goodbye.

Afterword

Today we have analyzed the topic in as much detail as possible and with pictures - clothing for running in winter. After reading sure you are on everything 100% decided on your winter running wardrobe, which means it's time to buy, dress and try it out in practice. Happy shopping and non-slip skiing!

With respect and gratitude, Dmitry Protasov.

A running buff is a comfortable functional headgear that reliably protects the body from wind, wind or too bright sun. The product appeared on the market in 1992, its versatility and high thermal insulation performance were highly appreciated by outdoor enthusiasts around the world. Such hats have a neat and very unusual appearance, which also attracts attention to them. Buffs are ideal for running in conditions and bad weather, there are windproof and heat resistant models on the market.

History of creation

An unusual headdress was invented by the Spanish biker Juan Royas, who protected his neck from the wind with a scarf that rubbed his skin badly and did not look good. The inventor of the buff began to think about creating a microfiber headgear that would be made seamless method. At first, Huang distributed finished products to friends, and since 1992 he began to successfully trade his invention. Note that the buff literally translates as "handkerchief".

The original headwear is made at a textile factory in the Spanish town of Iguloada, not far from Barcelona. This allows you to control the production of buffs, from the stage of selecting threads to sending finished products.

Material for making buffs

To create original headwear for athletes, high quality materials. Initially, buffs were created from microfiber, then materials such as polyester, fleece, wool and others were used in production.

Polyester is a modern material with water-repellent properties. It dries quickly and retains heat. Microfiber is a type of polyester, which, for all its excellent performance properties, has a small thickness. Such a material is similar to a membrane, as it is equipped with mini holes on the outside, which allow the product to pass air, but at the same time protect the body from wind and precipitation. The microfiber is pleasant to the touch, comfortable to wear.

A buff made of this material maintains a comfortable body temperature, protecting it from cold or overheating. Besides, Coolmax material Protects from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Fleece is an excellent material for products intended for active outdoor sports. The fabric is light weight, good wear resistance and breathable properties. Fleece prevents heat loss and helps maintain a comfortable body temperature during active outdoor sports.

In Iguloada, headdresses are also made from fabric in which silver ions are added with excellent antibacterial properties. This material allows you to keep the headgear clean for a long time, and also prevents the formation of unpleasant odors.

Proper wearing of the buff

You can wear a buff 12 different ways, and it is possible that you will come up with your own. An unusual headdress for active outdoor sports is used as a pirate, bandana, hair band, hat, scarf, balaclava, wristband and much more.

There are 3 buff sizes on the market - products for small athletes, teenagers and adults. The use of microfiber and other modern materials allows you to create the most comfortable conditions for wearing the product.

buff care

In order for the buff to serve you for many years, you need to properly care for it. The product should be washed at a temperature not exceeding 30 0 C, both in manual and machine mode. Note that the buff is not demanding in care, it does not need to be ironed, while the fabric dries quickly and does not lose its original appearance and color.

Cold is not a reason to give up sports on the street, you just need to choose the right clothes and equipment. Buff is one of those things that provide comfort while exercising in bad weather.
