Not so long ago I decided to look at Airek for reviews of this towel. It happens to me: I like a thing - I go to read reviews about it. I was surprised that there are no reviews for this towel! Actually, in general, I did not find any reviews on microfiber towels in general.

"We need to fix this," I thought, because. this is actually a very worthwhile thing! Therefore, today's review is about a microfiber towel from the Decathlon sports store. More precisely, we will talk about two towels - a larger one (mine) and a smaller one (my boyfriend). Actually, it was on his advice that I bought myself a towel, because. he has been using his for a year, if not more, and he praises it very much.

Although the articles of both towels are different, in the review I will give information about two.

My towel size is L (80×130 cm), color is turquoise

The size of my martyr's towel is M (65 × 90 cm), blue

At the time of my purchase (August 2019), only towels in size L (80x130 cm) were in the store. Colors could be chosen.

As I said, these towels are made of an unusual material for towels - microfiber.

What is microfiber?

microfiber or microfiber(English microfibre or microfiber) - a fabric made from polyester fibers, can also consist of polyamide fibers and other polymers. The fabric got its name because of the thickness of the fibers, which is several micrometers. Microfiber is used in the production of woven, non-woven and knitted materials.

The composition of our towels is 88% polyester, 12% polyamide, which is clearly stated on the label:


What are the advantages of polyamide (microfiber) over other fabrics?

The microfiber is highly resistant, has a rich palette of bright colors, and is completely washable. Microfiber fabrics have increased absorbency due to the very small thread cross-sectional diameter (the fabric is more “spongy”).

Suitable for the production of upholstered furniture.

  • leaves no fibers behind
  • does not shed
  • does not roll
  • liquids do not penetrate into the fiber
  • Absorbs much more water than regular fabric
  • dries quickly after washing

Used for the production of clothing. Microfibre clothing fabric, due to its “sponginess”, has the ability to retain heat well, while clothing can be lighter and thinner than other fabrics. Polyamide fibers that make up microfiber are resistant to chloride ions, hydrochloric acid, detergents and hot water, as a result of which they are used as fabric materials in professional cleaning and household cleaning.

The advantages of this material are significant. What about disadvantages?

Since the microfiber is based on polyester thread, it is not recommended to dry it on batteries, iron or heat treat it.

After the accumulation of a sufficient amount of fat in a microfiber cloth, it completely loses its ability to absorb water.

As you can see, a microfiber towel will become unusable after it accumulates fat in itself. But we are not eternal either. Nothing lasts forever under the moon, you know. So I don't see it as a problem. Moreover, such a towel is enough for more than one season. But more on that below.

Towels were sold rolled up.


In this form, they can be transported in a suitcase or stored at home. Towels can be tightly rolled up and fixed with elastic bands. They take up very little space in a suitcase due to the thin, but at the same time dense fabric.

I will show in the photo how the towels look folded relative to my hand.



No large terry towel will be so compact when folded. These towels are very convenient to take with you on the road.

The edges of the towels are overlocked. My towel thread is black.


But the towel of my martyr has a contrasting thread - it is neon-light green.


I confess that I like the overlock version of my towel much more. But here the overlock thread already depends on the color of the towel itself. This is probably why I chose a turquoise towel in the store. In all blue models, the edges are finished with light green thread, while in turquoise models, the edging was black. So I like the soul more 😉

Since we are still talking about my towel in size L, then I will focus on the details more on the example of mine.

​​​​​​I will make a reservation: my turquoise towel is new, I began to actively use it only 2 weeks ago. The blue towel was bought a year ago or even a little more. The young man took it with him during trips and travels, periodically uses it in the pool and at home.

Given these facts, I note that the fabric of both towels outwardly is no different. On the older blue towel, there are no signs by which the older item is usually distinguished from the new one.


I said above that such towels are not durable due to the fact that after long use they become saturated with fat and stop absorbing moisture. After a year of active use by my young man of a blue towel, it did not become worse to absorb water. Works as it should. As it worked. And tactilely, his towel is absolutely no different from mine (assuming that the fat somehow appears to the touch at all).

The only way to understand which of the towels is older is the label. My towel is bright and fresh, let's call it that. The letters are not erased.


Tactile microfiber is somewhat reminiscent of faux suede. To the touch it is very pleasant, soft. It is pleasant to use a towel made of such a fabric, although a little unusual.

As for the thickness of the towel, it is thin. But pretty tight. Absorbs moisture in itself "with a bang."

Unlike simple terry towels, which need to be dry off, Microfiber towels should be applied to the skin, blotting it. At first it is unusual and you want to wipe the skin, which is very difficult to put into practice. The towel does not want to slide on the skin. But this is not required. Due to its composition, this towel perfectly absorbs moisture, only literally coming into contact with the skin.

Therefore, we remember: with such towels we only get wet, and do not dry ourselves!

Despite the unusual thinness for a towel, microfiber is able to absorb a large amount of water. For example, after taking a shower with washing your hair, you can safely use the towel again, and this "once again" the skin will be dry again, so perfectly even a wet towel absorbs water. For comparison, I can no longer use an ordinary terry towel after wiping my body and head, it is so wet.

Care💦

As for care, it is simple: we wash at 30 degrees by hand, without the use of bleach. We don't iron. We do not dry on the battery.


I calmly wash in the washing machine on a daily 30-minute wash. I don't use washing powder, I use gel for colored laundry. The fabric does not shed and does not stain the washing fellows. That is, without a twinge of conscience, I can throw towels with something light and nothing will be stained from such an impudent neighborhood. After washing, the softness of the fabric is preserved.

They dry very quickly. Literally within a few hours after washing. After taking a shower, when the fabric is not so wet, they dry out in general in 30 minutes.

And in general, I like them very much for the house. So far, I have switched from using a terry towel to this one and have no regrets. They are also very affordable in terms of price.
