How to knit the simplest. A set of loops on the spokes. Knitting a sweater or blouse

Sometimes, looking at beautiful knitted things, you begin to dream again about how to learn to knit clothes yourself. For beginners, this may seem like an impossible task, but if you master the basics of mastery and advance in it gradually, you can achieve tangible results in six months.

At the heart of skill are not so many whales. Your success at the start will depend on the right choice of tools, yarn, mastering the starting loops and mastering the two most common types of loops: purl and knit, as well as the gradual complication of their combinations, plus the addition of new patterns.

Knitting needles

Important is the quality of the spokes, which should be light, smooth and made of durable material. The traditional materials for making knitting needles are wood, bone, plastic and metal. Consider the characteristics of each of them when choosing knitting needles for yarn. For example, plastic and wood often bend, although they are light and easy to knit. From fleecy fluffy yarn it is better not to knit with wood, because fluffy threads cling to their rough surface.

If you are knitting with light-colored yarn, then do not use aluminum, which can leave gray marks on the threads.

Steel knitting needles are comfortable, durable, do not bend, do not stain or cling to the pile of yarn, but their only drawback can be called weight, they are heavier than other knitting needles.

Choosing yarn

The most popular yarn materials among needlewomen are angora, mohair and acrylic. Woolen threads are comfortable in knitting, and products from them take on a good shape, the loops are even. Products from melange threads are beautiful. When choosing yarn, be guided by the product selected in the magazine and the recommendations indicated for it.

It is advisable for beginner needlewomen to learn to understand the types of yarn, carefully study the label on the package and the composition of the yarn. On the labels of quality yarn, the manufacturer indicates the desired size of the knitting needles for the yarn, the thread consumption and the estimated knitting density. Please note that knitwear tends to stretch after washing and become larger. When choosing knitting needles and yarn, knit a 10x10 sample for the test to make sure the choice is correct. When the knitting tools are selected and purchased, you can proceed to the stage of learning the art of knitting. At the heart of any knitted fabric are loops, which form the entire product.

How to learn to make loops

Place two knitting needles together.

After separating a long thread from the skein, wrap it crosswise once around the thumb and the same thread also around the index finger. The end of the loop thread, which is located on the thumb, should eventually lie on the palm of your hand, and the end of the loop thread from the index finger should go out, around the middle finger and ring finger, and again go inside the palm, lying on the inner surface of the little finger. We have one loop on the thumb and a loop on the index finger.

Keeping the two needles pressed together, pick up the loop from the bottom of the thumb, without further removing this loop, grab the loop from the index finger and pull the loop from the index finger through the loop of the thumb.

Tighten the first loop that appears on the knitting needles with your thumb.

Then, in the same way, continue to create loops, one by one. Such loops are called air or starting. After forming a row of loops, carefully draw out one needle and get ready to knit with two needles. The basic loops in the construction of any pattern on the canvas are front and back loops. Having mastered the front surface and the wrong side, you will learn how to create a variety of models and any patterns, even the most complex at first glance.

How to knit in stockinette stitch

The working main thread, stretching from the skein, when knitting is always behind the fabric and is held with the left hand, by winding the thread around the left index finger in one turn. The knitting algorithm is as follows:

  • Insert the right knitting needle in front of the fabric into the loop that lies on the left knitting needle, hook the working main thread wound around the finger with the right knitting needle and pull it through the loop space;
  • Throw the formed new loop from the left knitting needle to the right, and lower the loop from the previous row from the left knitting needle;
  • You have knitted a front loop, which on the canvas looks like a “pigtail” of two threads.

The second type of loop is called purl and its implementation is not at all difficult.

Features of the wrong side

In this version, the working thread lies in front of the canvas. The knitting algorithm is as follows:

  • Place the warp thread on the left needle in front of the loop you are going to knit;
  • Move the right knitting needle behind the working thread through the loop on the left knitting needle;
  • Pull the working thread through the loop and move the new loop to the right knitting needle;
  • Lower the loop from the left knitting needle, which was in the previous row.

Once you have mastered these two types of stitches, try knitting a few times in stockinette stitch and then a few rows in purl stitch to hone your skill and achieve smoother stitches.

Then try to knit a few rows with a simple pearl pattern. To do this, alternate the front loop with the wrong one, and in each new row, the loops need to be shifted by one.

Hand-knitted things are always in fashion. They are very stable in wear, the quality is much superior to the purchased ones. Even an inexperienced needlewoman can easily understand how to learn how to knit simple little things that are accessible to beginners.

Step-by-step knitting instructions on 2 knitting needles for scarves, socks, booties for newborns will help you learn new skills and add useful needlework techniques to your creative piggy bank.

Types of yarn

Depending on the raw material, knitting yarn is natural and artificial. In the production of natural yarn, animal hair or vegetable fibers are used - viscose, wool, silk, linen.

Artificial yarn is made from synthetic threads - acetate, polyester, polyvinyl chloride, polyamide, acrylic. In addition, there are various types of mixed yarns, using both natural and artificial raw materials.

The most popular wool yarn:

  • regular wool- it is spun from sheep's wool, this yarn of all natural types is considered the cheapest and most affordable. It is coarser than other types of yarn, but at the same time it lends itself well to dyeing, including with natural dyes. The price is always available.
  • Alpaca- This is the wool of the llama alpaca, which is bred in the mountains of South America. Alpaca has only 22 natural shades from white to black, and is usually not dyed. It is very warm, soft and very expensive.
  • Angora- the wool of the Angora rabbit, delicate, fluffy, shiny, lends itself well to dyeing in a variety of colors. When knitting and wearing, it should be borne in mind that short angora fibers can “crawl out” of the threads. Therefore, if it is not properly handled, the angora quickly loses its edge. This is a very expensive type of wool.
  • Mohair- wool of Angora goats. These are long-haired animals with a very beautiful wavy coat. Mohair is very light, fluffy and extremely warm material for knitting. Mohair villi are very slippery and long; artificial or cotton thread is usually used to secure them. Therefore, mohair is never 100%.

Summer yarn for knitting consists of vegetable fibers. The cheapest and most common is cotton. It is hygroscopic, light, lends itself well to staining. Linen is a smooth, even yarn with a characteristic sheen, more elastic and heavier than cotton.

In the manufacture of silk yarn, defective silk cocoons, tangled and short fibers are used. After appropriate processing, the silk yarn acquires a magnificent appearance, the threads are shiny, even, very tear-resistant and elastic.

There is no pure silk yarn, usually cotton is used for the basis of spinning threads. Products made of silk yarn are easy to wash and do not wrinkle.

Artificial yarn is extremely diverse both in quality and appearance. Particularly attractive are synthetic threads with various fantasy additions - bumps, thickenings, dyed in different colors, boucle, long fluffy threads, shiny lurex.

In general, yarn is twisted from several threads, and may consist of one. In some types of yarn, the fibers can be very tightly packed and tightly twisted. In others, on the contrary, the thread is lighter and looser. Yarn varies in thickness and length of pile.

Needle sizes

The dimensions of the spokes are determined by their diameter. There are standard needle numbers from 1 to 10, which corresponds to their thickness from 1 mm to 10 mm.

You can determine the size of the spokes yourself with improvised means. If you attach a knitting needle to a centimeter ruler, you can measure its diameter by eye and determine the corresponding number.

For knitting thin smooth yarn, small-diameter knitting needles are chosen. For fluffy yarns such as mohair, use at least size 5 needles.

It all depends on what task the knitter sets for herself. If you plan to create a product with a tight knit, then even for a thick thread, you can take knitting needles that are smaller in size. When knitting an openwork, loose pattern, thicker knitting needles are used.

Determining which needle number will suit the chosen yarn is easy. The thickness of the thread for normal knitting density should be at least twice as thin as the knitting needle.

Knitting for beginners on 2 knitting needles

How to learn to knit with knitting needles - a clear step-by-step instruction for beginners. You first need to master this type of needlework on 2 knitting needles. You should choose medium-sized needles and a smooth thread of the appropriate thickness.

Before you start creating a product, you need to master the basic knitting techniques. Therefore, first of all, you need to try to tie a sample measuring 10 by 10 centimeters.

So it will be clear what density the knitted fabric is, how evenly the loops lie.

Set of loops

The thread must be placed on the left hand, stretched between the index and thumb. Hold it gently with three others.

The knitting needles need to be folded together with each other, and then insert their ends under the thread from the side of the palm and pull it slightly towards you. The result is a loop on the thumb. Now you need to insert the ends of both knitting needles inside the resulting loop. Then pick up the thread from the index finger and drag it through.

Release the thumb and tighten the knot formed on the knitting needles. When dialing at the beginning of the row, there are always two loops on the knitting needles at once.

So, repeating these steps, dial the desired number of loops, which is indicated in the diagram or measuring the width of the future product using a centimeter ruler. Upon completion of the set, one knitting needle is carefully pulled out. All resulting loops remain on the left knitting needle. Now you can knit the first row.

Facial loop

The free knitting needle, which is in the right hand, must be inserted into the loop in front. Hook the thread and drag it to the right knitting needle. This technique of knitting is called classic.

Another technique is to insert the needle into the loop from behind. It is called "grandmother's front". When knitting facial, you need to make sure that they do not twist in the canvas.

Purl loop

The thread is superimposed on top of the left knitting needle. Then an empty knitting needle must be inserted under it and pushed into the loop. Then pull out the thread, which lies with a new loop on the knitting needle, which is in the right hand.

Nakid

You just need to throw the thread on the right knitting needle without knitting. In the next row, the yarn is knitted as a regular knit or purl, depending on the scheme or pattern.

Yarns always increase the number of stitches on the needle. Therefore, the knitting fabric becomes wider.

How to complete the product?

They complete the work with a special non-dissolving row. The first loop is removed on a free knitting needle. The second is simply passed through it, without tying. The whole canvas is processed in the same way. When the last loop is on the needle, the thread must be cut with scissors and pulled through it, tightening the knot.

English gum

English elastic is more elastic than regular elastic, so it is used in products that require greater elasticity.

First, you should tie two rows with a regular elastic band, alternating two purl and one front loops on the front side of the product.

  1. In the first row, all purl loops are knitted according to the pattern, and the front loops are simply removed on the right knitting needle untied. At the same time, the working thread is left, without tightening it strongly, behind the front loop.
  2. The second row is knitted according to the pattern, all front loops are knit, and purl - purl.

Openwork technique

Openwork knitting is always performed according to a special pattern. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that there are small holes in the knitted fabric.

You can make such a hole with the help of a crochet. At the same time, so that the number of loops does not increase on the knitting needles, the next or previous (before the yarn) two loops are knitted together with the front or back loop, according to the scheme.

The next row is knitted according to the pattern, including the yarn, it acts as an independent loop. A hole in the canvas appears where the yarn was made. It can be performed anywhere in the row, regardless of where the two loops are knitted together.

It is necessary to ensure that the number of loops in a row does not increase due to yarn overs.

If it is necessary to make a large hole, then make a double crochet, wrapping the thread around the right knitting needle twice. In the next row, one turn around the knitting needle is knitted, and the second is simply discarded.

Circuit designations

Patterns are always read from the bottom, the bottom row is knitted first. The designation of even rows goes from right to left, and odd rows, on the contrary, from left to right. In some schemes, there are no purl rows, odd. Because they knit according to the pattern.

In one scheme, only one rapport can be presented to create a pattern. This means that it needs to be done several times either in the height of the product or in the width. As a rule, a decoding of the icons is indicated near the diagram of the figure.

If no explanation is provided:

  • An empty square means no loop.
  • Facial - indicated by a small vertical line.
  • Purl - a horizontal line.
  • Nakid - usually represented in the diagram by a circle.
  • The triangle directed to the right side is two loops knitted front in front.
  • Triangle directed to the left side - two front loops at the back.
  • An oblique line passing through several empty squares at once means that it is necessary to cross the loops with each other. The number of loops is the number of squares. The top end of the line indicates the direction of the crossover.

For beginner knitters, it is better not to take fancy yarn and mohair into work, as they are easily tangled when knitting. To learn how to knit an even fabric, you will have to dissolve the connected section of the product several times and perform it again.

This is the only way to develop the necessary skills. It is almost impossible to safely dissolve a canvas with tangled mohair villi.

You should also refuse yarn, which consists of several twisted threads. Since it is not always possible to correctly stretch the loop, holding all the thin threads on the knitting needle.

The result is confusion, which will also be very difficult to dissolve, and it will look ugly in the product.

You can not take on a complex drawing or large work. You need to start your creative journey as a knitter with small and very simple things to do.

The most suitable option for a person who is just mastering the knitting needles is to knit the simplest scarf.

In the process of its manufacture, all the necessary skills will be worked out, the fingers will get used to holding the knitting needles correctly, the loops will begin to turn out even and neat. The speed will gradually increase.

How to knit a baby scarf

This is the simplest product, a completely inexperienced knitter will cope with it. For knitting a scarf, it is better to take a smooth yarn of medium thickness and pick up the appropriate knitting needles for it. The width of the scarf should not be too large, 10 cm is enough. The length is optional.

The number of loops cast on depends on the thickness of the thread. You can knit a children's scarf in garter stitch. All rows, both from the front and from the inside, are knitted with facial loops.

You can decorate the ends of scarves with a fringe. To do this, we cut the threads 10 cm long and stretch each through the loop in the last row. Fold the yarn in half and tie in a knot.

Classic men's scarf

How to knit a men's scarf for beginners is clear. The previous step-by-step knitting instruction on 2 knitting needles for a children's scarf is taken as a basis. It is only necessary to increase its length and width. The length of a classic men's scarf should be at least a meter.

A scarf is a two-sided product, which means that the pattern, both on the front side and on the wrong side, should look the same. Therefore, it is best to knit it with a garter stitch. Rubber also looks good. It is performed by alternating two front and two wrong loops in an even row, and in an odd one it is knitted according to the pattern.

You can also decorate the ends of a men's scarf with a fringe.

Snood scarf for beginners

Scarf-snood is performed both on two separate knitting needles and on circular ones.

It is necessary to knit a rectangle on two separate knitting needles, 50 cm high and a length equal to the circumference of the head or a little more. Then sew together its side parts.

It is most convenient to knit such a product on circular knitting needles. Before knitting the second row, you need to stretch the plastic wire between the loops in the middle. Then close the circle by knitting the last loop of the first row.

In this case, the entire snood scarf is knitted on the front side, which should be taken into account when creating a pattern.

Socks for beginners on knitting needles

How to knit for beginners step by step on 2 knitting needles - the simplest and most affordable technology. Work begins with 22 loops to knit the cuff for the back half of the sock. An elastic band 1x1 4 cm wide is knitted. Next, the work is done with the front stitch to the same height.

They begin to form the heel, reducing the loops by 2 in each row. At the same time, two loops are knitted together in front of the hem loops with an inward slope. After 12 loops remain on the knitting needles, proceed to expand the canvas.

The addition of loops goes in each row by 2. New loops are knitted through the edge loops in the previous row. As a result, 22 loops should appear on the knitting needles. The heel is ready, it's time to start making the sole.

How to knit for beginners step by step on 2 knitting needles a simple sock

The length of the sole depends on the size of the foot. For size 37, you need to knit the front stitch 8 cm. Next, the sock is knitted. This stage of work is very similar to the previous one, when the heel was formed. You need to decrease the canvas until there are 12 loops left, and then it expands again.

Now you need to make the top half of the sock. The length of this part is equal to the length of the sole.

The peculiarity is to pick up with knitting needles and knit the edge loops of the sole so that they do not need to be sewn.

Slippers for beginners

How to knit slippers for beginners according to the easiest pattern. This step-by-step master class allows you to make slippers on 2 knitting needles very quickly, in a couple of hours.

The slipper pattern is a rectangle, one of the corners of which is cut out so that the slippers do not look like a gnome's slipper with a pointed toe. Slippers are sewn on the sole.

For the thirty-seventh size, you need to dial on the knitting needles such a number of loops that it will correspond to 44 cm. Next, the fabric is knitted with a stocking stitch 7 cm high.

After that, the number of loops corresponding to 3 cm is closed from one edge. Here there will be a toe slipper. After that, another three centimeters in height are knitted. Slipper blank is ready.

Now it needs to be stitched correctly. First we make a sock - the cut corner is folded in half and sewn together.

Accordingly, the triangular part of the finished web is bent. Align it along the bottom edge of the side of the rectangle where the tip of the sock was sewn.

From the opposite end, where the heel will be located, we bend 17 cm of knitted fabric towards the toe. With one seam, the entire slipper is sewn along the sole. There is one more small seam that connects the bow and sidewall.

We turn the slippers on the front side. Along the edge and the oblique seam on the front, you can lay a braid or tie it beautifully with a crochet.

We knit footprints in stages

When knitting footprints, you must adhere to the following steps:

Poncho for beginners

How to knit a poncho for beginners with knitting needles, because this product is voluminous. The step-by-step principle of its manufacture on 2 knitting needles is very simple.

You need to tie two large rectangles, each 40x80 cm in size. The thickness of the yarn and knitting needles, the pattern can be chosen any. For inexperienced craftswomen, even a simple facial surface is suitable.

The main secret is in stitching the two resulting canvases. Each must be folded in half. Shoulders will be in the fold area. Then attach the narrow side of one rectangle to the wide side of the other so that you get a nice angle at the bottom of the poncho, and lay the seam.

We do the same on the other side.

Now you can process the neck by typing loops along the edge. A collar with a large lapel, like a sweater, knitted in a circle, is perfect for such a poncho.

Booties for newborns on knitting needles

These booties are designed for the length of the baby's foot 8 cm. They are made in garter stitch with knitting needles number 3.

Knitting begins with the part that is above the ankle and wraps around the shin. Then the toe is knitted, after which the middle part is knitted, connecting the sole and the top, then directly the sole and the back of the booties.

Progress:

  1. Cast on 27 stitches and knit 12 rows. The last hem in each row is purl.
  2. The next step is to make holes for the string. The next 2 rows are knit in stockinette stitch. Fifteenth row: 2 together, 1 yarn over, at the end of the row - 1 front and edge. The sixteenth row goes all purl.
  3. We knit a sock, divide the fabric into 3 parts of 9 loops. Knit 17 stitches. The eighteenth loop is purl, after which the product must be turned over. And now only the middle part of 9 loops is knitted separately for 16 rows.
  4. We proceed to the side part, here it is necessary to lift the loops from the sock canvas. First of all, we do this on the left side. Therefore, we knit the row to the end, and we start the left knitting needle into the edge of the previous row, pull the thread and knit it with the wrong one. Then we collect in this way another 7 loops to the end of the fabric. Next comes the left side of the canvas, which is done front. We turn the product inside out and do everything according to the drawing. Now cast on 8 stitches on the right edge. After that, the loops remaining on the knitting needle are knitted according to the pattern. There are 43 loops left, which are further knitted with a garter stitch for 12 rows.
  5. We carry out the sole. In this case, only the middle part of 9 loops is knitted with the gradual attachment of the sides. First knit 25 stitches. Then the 26th loop with the 27th is performed together with the front. We turn the product over, 8 facial, 9th goes with the 10th together with the wrong side. The work is turned on the face, and the sole is knitted further in the same way. The loops that are knitted together follow the pattern. At the end of the sole, 9 loops remain.
  6. Then the back is knitted. The edge loops of the remaining parts are connected. After the first row of the back, we remove the last loop on the knitting needle, which is in the right hand. Then we collect an additional loop from the hem, re-shoot the last loop from the right knitting needle to the left and knit them together with the front one. We turn the product, we perform a series of purl to the end. We remove the last untied loop on the right knitting needle, insert the left knitting needle under the hem side part. Then we drop a free loop from the right knitting needle to the left, and knit 2 together with the wrong side. So we continue to do until we come to the place where you need to make holes for the lace. In the next front row, alternate yarn overs and knit 2 together, while lifting the loops on the side of the product. Next, knit according to the pattern until the end of the product, until all the sidewalls are attached to the back of the booties. We close the loops.

This step-by-step pattern for knitting on 2 knitting needles for beginners, as experience shows, is universal. On its basis, you can knit booties of different models with knitting needles, adding new details. All you have to do is show your creativity.

You can decorate hand-knitted products with the help of embroidery with multi-colored woolen threads, beads, braids. Some craftswomen use natural materials - buttons made from pieces of wood, walnut shell ties, leather straps. A bold fantasy allows even inexperienced needlewomen to create impressive exclusive things.

Processing the neck when knitting with a garter stitch

Garter stitch seems to be one of the simplest, but this simplicity is deceptive. When you start. knitting and processing the neck, you are faced with a serious problem: the peculiarity of this knitting is such that it is very difficult to make the processing look neat Step to the left, step to the right and the rows lie unevenly, pulled somewhere, somewhere a hole formed. I tried a lot of ways and as a result I found the only option that seemed really successful for me. The neck loops were not closed, but knitted in short rows with wrapped loops. I'll try to describe the process, maybe someone will come in handy.

The model, as seen in the photo, has raglan sleeves, so the back and sleeves were finished in a straight line, without reductions, leaving the loops open. And before ... On the two halves of the shelves, at first I did not knit 13 central loops, leaving them on the knitting needle (their number depends on the thickness of the yarn and the shape of the neckline), and then knitted in short rows (not knitting one loop in each second row, wrapping it working thread).

We knit all the loops with a garter stitch to the last neck closest to the middle, remove it, without knitting, entwined.

The principle of knitting entwined loops:

1. Thread at work, remove the loop on the right knitting needle.

2. Bring the yarn forward between the slipped st on the right needle and the next st on the left needle.

3. Slip the same stitch onto the left needle.

4. Turn the work over to the other side. The loop is wrapped. Continue to knit in garter stitch in the opposite direction of the following loops.

After knitting the shelves, collect the open loops of all parts (shelves, sleeves, necks) in order on circular knitting needles and tie the neck. At the same time, when knitting twisted loops, insert a knitting needle under the wrapping and into the loop and knit them together.

With this processing option, the connecting line of the strapping is neat, without holes and irregularities.

At least once in their lives, 90% of girls picked up knitting needles. But not everyone managed to finish even the first product. What to do to tie things up? And most importantly, how to learn to knit? Read in this article.

Without what it is impossible to learn to knit?

To learn how to knit, you will need the knitting needles and yarn for knitting. When choosing knitting needles, the main thing is not to get lost in the variety. There are knitting needles of different sizes and different in shape, purpose and material.

  • Shape: round and square. Round are suitable for any products and skill levels. Square - for experienced needlewomen and tight knitting.
  • By material: plastic, metal, bamboo and ebony. Plastic knitting needles are inconvenient for knitting massive products and are fragile. Metal knitting needles are versatile, but are not produced in large sizes. Bamboo needles are suitable for beginners, but slow down work, with prolonged use, an oily coating appears on the hands. Ebony expensive, but comfortable.
  • By appointment: straight, circular, flexible, hosiery, auxiliary.

The choice of yarn is varied and depends only on the preferences of the needlewoman and the possibilities of the wallet.

How to learn to knit - where to start

  • First you need to dial loops. There are many ways to do this. But for the first experience, it is worth stopping at an ordinary set of two knitting needles. We throw the thread over the palm, its free end should be between the thumb and forefinger, we insert the thread of the ball between the index and middle, and with the free end we make a turn around the thumb towards the palm, both ends of the thread are clamped with three fingers.
  • We insert the knitting needles from the bottom up into the loop on the thumb, pick up the thread on the index finger from the side of the middle one from top to bottom and stretch it into the loop.
  • We pull out the thumb from the loop - the first loop remains on the knitting needles. To continue dialing, repeat the steps. Leave the free end of the thread twice as long as the width of the product.

How to learn to knit - front and back loops

Learn to knit without knowing how knit and purl stitches are knitted. The scheme of how to knit them is below in the picture.

How to learn to knit - types of knitting

If all rows of the product are knitted only with facial loops, this is a garter stitch. And if the odd rows are facial, and the even rows are purl, then this is the front surface.

How to learn to knit - edge loops

So that the edge of the finished product remains not overtightened, you need to start and end each row with an edge loop. The first loop of the row is simply removed, the last one is knitted on the wrong side.

How to learn to knit - close knitting

We remove the edge, following the pattern, insert the knitting needle with the fabric into the edge and stretch the knitted loop through it. The hem turned out to be removed, one loop remained on the knitting needle. Repeat steps until the end of the row. We return the last loop back to the knitting needle, break the thread and stretch it into the loop.

At first, do not immediately knit products with a complex pattern. Before knitting, carefully understand the pattern and believe in yourself! It is better to start not with scarves (they are boring to knit with simple patterns), as is commonly believed, but with something more tangible. It can even be some kind of interior detail, for example, a plaid consisting of different patterns of front and back loops.

What materials and tools are needed to learn how to knit?

It takes a lot of time and patience to learn how to knit. Don't be afraid! Skill comes with experience, but even a beginner can learn to knit by mastering a few of the basic techniques outlined below. But before you start learning, you need to acquire a few important tools:

  1. Yarn. You can choose yarn of any color you like. When choosing, give preference to natural cotton threads, it is easier and clearer to learn from them.
  2. Knitting needles - when choosing tools, pay attention to their number. It is necessary that the knitting needles fit the thickness of the thread you have chosen. Usually these data are indicated on a skein of yarn, but if you are at a loss, contact a consultant in the store. The needles can be straight or circular. Straight lines are suitable for training.
  3. Marking clips. Sometimes in the process of knitting it is necessary to make notes, for example, to follow the pattern.
  4. A large needle with a large eye (popularly called a darning needle) for securing threads or connecting product parts.

Learning to knit from scratch

Set of loops

The very first thing knitting begins with is a set of loops. The simplest is, which also has the name of the set of the initial row of air loops.

  1. In one hand (right), take one knitting needle and the end of the thread.
  2. Take the continuation of the thread in the other (left) hand and hold it with the little finger and ring fingers and then place the thread on the thumb.
  3. Now you need to insert the needle under the thread on the thumb.
  4. A loop should form, which must be dropped and tightened on the knitting needle (as shown in the figure).
  5. In the same way cast on 20-30 loops for training

To evenly distribute the loops, try to maintain the same thread tension during the set-on.

Set of loops of the initial row from one thread
Set of loops of the initial row from one thread

Another common way to cast on loops is

  1. Unwind the thread from the ball twice the width of the desired fabric and place it in your left palm. Circle the thread on the thumb of the left hand counterclockwise. Then put the thread on the bent index finger and hold it with the remaining fingers of the left hand.
  2. To facilitate the passage of the needles in subsequent rows after a set of a row, put them together. Two knitting needles, folded together (instead of one as shown in the figure), enter under the thread from the inside of the thumb, then intercept the thread from the index finger and pull the loop from the thumb. Here, drop the loop from the thumb and bring it under the thread, while spreading the fingers (thumb and forefinger) in opposite directions. Pull the loop tight. Thus a loop is formed.
  3. To continue dialing a row, the threads do not need to be dropped from the fingers. Next, move your thumb to the left to get a kind of loop. From the palm side, insert the needles into this loop from the bottom up, grab the thread from the index finger and pull it up. Then do the same movements as when forming the first loop.
  4. To prevent the chain of loops from twisting, hold each new loop with your right hand.

What is an edge loop? How to knit edge loops?

Before starting the execution of the front or back loops, it is worth noting that the first loop of the row you have dialed is called edging. Edge hinges- this is the first and last loop of the row. Before tying the first front loop, you need to remove the edge. To do this, insert the working knitting needle into it from right to left and transfer the loop to it, while the thread lies on the left index finger. The first edge loop is always removed without knitting . But the last edge loop is knitted as a front loop. Thus, on both sides, edge edges are formed in the form of a chain.

Edge loop

The side edge of the knitted fabric can be made in several ways. There are several ways to design:
1. smooth edge is formed if the first loop of the row is not knitted, but removed, while leaving the working thread behind the knitting needle, and the last loop, in turn, is knitted with a purl loop.
2. If you remove the first loop, as when making a flat edge, and knit the last loop behind the back wall, you get jagged edge. This method of designing the hem row is great for forming a placket for buttons, belts.
3. If you need to create a dense edge, for example, to draw a fastener strap, then pay attention to double edging edge. The edge is performed as follows: at the beginning of the row, the first loop is removed, and the next one is knitted with the front one behind the front wall. At the end of the row, the penultimate loop is removed, and the last loop is knitted on the wrong side according to the "grandmother's" method.

Front loops: knitting methods for a front loop (knitting for beginners)

The knit stitch is one of the most basic knitting stitches for beginners. Having mastered their implementation, you can knit quite a few things for yourself.

There are two ways to make a front loop behind the front wall (classic method) and behind the back wall (grandmother's way).

  1. Cast on the required number of loops, for example, 20 loops.
  2. Take the knitting needle with cast-on stitches in your left hand, the working knitting needle in your right hand.
  3. Knit the first edge stitch.

The thread coming from the ball should lie on the index finger of the left hand, pinched between the index and middle fingers and then between the ring and little fingers.

4. Insert the right needle into the next loop from left to right and, grabbing the working thread from the index finger, pull it into the loop and transfer the new loop from the left needle to the right.

5. Knit all other loops in the same way.

Grandma's loop is rarely used in knitting, and as a rule, its use is negotiated in advance. This type of loop has several names: English loop, front loop, knitted for the lower lobule, front loop picked up from behind, front loop in the middle.

When making a front loop in the grandmother's way, the position of the hands and thread is the same as when knitting a regular front loop. The edge loop must be removed. In the next loop, enter the thread from right to left and grab the thread from the index finger, pull it into the loop and transfer the new loop from the left knitting needle to the right.

Purl loops (knitting for beginners)

As with knitting front loops, there are two ways to knit purl loops:

  • The classic way of knitting a purl loop is as follows:
  1. Remove the edge loop (if you start knitting from the beginning of the row);
  2. Place the working yarn in front of the left needle;
  3. Insert the right needle into the loop from right to left behind the working thread and circle it with a thread counterclockwise;
  4. Having formed a coil, pull it into the loop and transfer a new loop from the left knitting needle to the right one.

  • "Grandma's" way of knitting a purl loop:
  1. Remove the edge and place the working thread in front of the left knitting needle;
  2. Then the right knitting needle must be inserted into the loop from right to left behind the working thread, and then bring the thread under the end of the right knitting needle.
  3. Pull it into the loop and transfer the resulting new loop from the left knitting needle to the right.
