Easter crafts. Basket in the technique of volumetric quilling. Master class on teaching the quilling technique. Making a basket with flowers

Quilling or paper rolling is an interesting technique for working with paper, which allows you to create amazing flat and voluminous compositions from spirally twisted elements. In this master class, we invite you to make a do-it-yourself quilling postcard, which even a novice master can handle. A flower arrangement can be framed and given as a gift, and do not forget to involve children in the creative process!

This composition is voluminous, that is, the elements are arranged on it in two rows. We sew the basket using the isothread technique according to the scheme (brown or beige threads, depending on the color of the base you have chosen). Glue the base onto a sheet of thick paper or cardboard. Then we move on to gluing parts using the quilling technique.

Below (in the first layer) we place the leaves. Leaves can be made in different sizes and shades of green. We also make flowers of different sizes and place them on the composition as a whole (with pre-glued petals).

We make the cores for the flowers from tightly twisted spirals according to the size of the flowers themselves (large for large ones, small ones for small ones). Optionally, you can “attach” an arched handle to the basket by sewing it using the isothread technique or chain stitch.

Flowers consisting of individual petals are often found in the manufacture of compositions. The peculiarity of the manufacture of these flowers is that the petals must be the same in size. Therefore, we insert a round spiral for unwinding into a hole in a stencil ruler of a certain diameter. Free spirals of the same size are obtained, which are compressed, as a rule, into the shape of a “drop”.

If you need to get a larger part (flower), two or three strips are glued together in length.

To make the cores of flowers (daisies, poppies, etc.), first cut the upper edge of the strip with “noodles” into 1/3 of the width, then twist it tightly, glue the end and straighten the incised side. Then the core will turn out fluffy.

The shape of the petals, leaves and the structure of the flower is best clarified by the atlas of plants, postcards, etc.
Glue the petals directly onto the base. Glue the core to the center. Sometimes in volumetric compositions you need a flower as a separate element. In this case, the flower is collected by gluing the petals together. The core is glued to the center. The flower is dried and then glued into the composition.

Master class scenario

Introductory word of the master for the participants of the master class

Quilling is a technique of twisting long and narrow strips of paper into spirals with subsequent modification of their shape and making flat or voluminous compositions. The proposed quilling master class, which is being held here today, will help anyone who wants to master this craft. An original idea, a little patience, a minimum of tools for work - and you can surprise a friend with an original gift, decorate the interior, or just spend time doing a pleasant and relaxing activity.

The Quilling technique is a kind of mosaic with a huge number of options. The prepared parts can be interconnected, glued to the base, creating paintings or panels. Our quilling workshop is designed to introduce you to this amazing art using basket making as an example - perfect for experimenting with paper.

The history of the emergence of the "Quilling" technique

Quilling is a fairly ancient art form. At the beginning of the 19th century, quilling disappeared, but today it is reviving again and becoming more and more popular. Quilling is also known as paper twisting, paper filigree, paper mosaic. Quilling got its name from the English word “quill”, which means “feather”, since initially the paper was twisted with a large bird feather.

This type of art originated in Europe at the end of the 14th - beginning of the 15th century, and as a rule, monks and nuns were engaged in it. The monks used quilling to decorate religious objects using homemade paper and even the cut edges of book pages. The nuns wound paper with gilded edges around the tip of a bird's quill, creating graceful medallions. These miniature masterpieces, upon closer examination, created a complete illusion that they were made of thin gold stripes.

And although little has been preserved of medieval masterpieces due to the fragility of paper, the technique itself has survived to this day.

paper rolling how needlework spread very quickly throughout Europe, but due to the high cost of paper, especially high-quality and colored paper, this art became the privilege of noble ladies. Various templates and manuals were published in popular magazines, and aristocrats devoted all their leisure time to a new fashion trend, making various paper crafts, gifts, jewelry, decor items.

Quilling was very popular until the beginning of the 20th century, after which it disappeared for unknown reasons. But in the mid-1950s, the quilling revival began, and it was at this time that the main basic shapes used in paper rolling got their names. Quilling is popular not only in Europe, but also in the East. In South Korea, for example, there is an entire Association of Paper Plastic Lovers, which has united followers of various areas of paper art.

It should be noted that the Korean school of quilling is somewhat different from the European one. European works made using the paper rolling technique usually consist of a small number of details. They are very concise, resemble mosaics and decorate frames and postcards. This is due to the pace and frantic rhythm of European life. Oriental craftsmen, on the contrary, are in no hurry, preferring to create truly jewelry paper masterpieces, reminiscent of the finest lace woven from hundreds of the smallest details.

Demonstration and practical part

Demonstration of methods and techniques

In order to complete one of the details using the Quilling technique, special materials and equipment are not required.

At the initial stage, scissors with sharp tips, toothpicks, on which paper will be wound, will be quite enough. You will also need glue. For the best result, high-quality colored paper is best, because, thanks to its special properties, the created shapes take on exactly the shape that you need. But, if such paper is not available, regular paper cut into strips will also work, but it will be more difficult to work with it due to its higher density.

At the first stage, to make a basket, we prepare strips of paper 0.7-1 cm wide, 30 cm long, for flowers: strips of paper of one color - 2.5-3 cm wide, another color - 1.5-2 cm wide, length for all blanks are the same - 30 cm.

At the second stage, we twist the paper from the basket into a tight spiral, then let it unwind naturally, squeeze the opposite sides and glue the tip.

At the next stage, we glue the blanks, giving them the shape of a basket.

When the basket is ready, we start making flowers.

When making flowers, we cut strips of different colors and different widths with a fringe and glue them together, then twist them into a spiral, gluing the tip. We straighten the finished flower.

Did you have any difficulties? Which?

Where can you use this technique of working with paper?

Master's final word

There is a huge variety of typical figures, but by showing imagination, you can always come up with something new and create real filigree masterpieces. For example, from paper elements you can fold not only a basket for flowers, but also make a beautiful panel on the wall, assemble a vase for sweets, which can then be safely used for their intended purpose - they will not break or crumble into pieces. The art of quilling will allow you to qualitatively decorate the interior of your apartment.

Painting in quilling technique master class

How to make a basket of flowers. To get started, prepare everything you need: paper for making flowers, shades can be chosen to your taste, for this example pastel ones were used - peach, pink, pale green, for the centers it is better to use bright, contrasting paper, such as orange.

In addition, it is very important which tool you will use: you can use a special tool for quilling, or you can make it yourself. There are two options here: you can break the eye of a large needle from above, insert it into a regular pencil and a handy tool is ready! The second option is to make an incision on one of the ends of a wooden toothpick, this method is simpler, but no less effective.

When the basic materials are prepared, you can start making flowers. Place a sheet of paper of any chosen color in front of you, bend it in half, while the fold should look in your direction.

Repeat this action again, while carefully stroking the fold with your fingers. It remains to bend the resulting strip for the third time, you should get a blank about 2.5 cm wide. Please note that the paper is folded all the time in one direction

As a result of all the manipulations, you will get a rather thick strip of paper with one common fold at the bottom. Take it in your hands, placing the opening side up, with sharp scissors cut it into sharp, narrow cloves, if you want to make flowers larger, cut the petals a little wider. Be sure to leave at least 3 mm to the opposite edge

Carefully cut the fold at the bottom of the workpiece along its entire length, divide the finished fringe, you should have eight strips. In the same way, prepare blanks of different colors for flowers, as well as green ones for edging and orange ones for the middle - it is better to make them a little smaller in width.

We turn to the manufacture of a flower. Glue the main strip, for example, peach, to the orange strip, insert the edge of the smaller blank into the hole of the quilling tool, very carefully start twisting, when both strips are twisted, add another main one, having fully assembled all three parts, glue the tip of the paper with glue.

It remains to introduce a green border, for this, glue and twist a strip of pale green paper, do not forget to fix its end.

Gently bend the petals with a small needle, leave the middle in its original position. With a wooden stick, slightly twist the tip of each petal inside the flower.

In the same way, prepare six more flowers of other shades.

In order to make a basket, you will need thick boxboard, thin brown cardboard, a cutting mat, a breadboard knife, a pencil and a ruler. If you do not have a special mat and a knife, you can prepare the strips with ordinary scissors, but this will take a little longer.

Line brown cardboard into strips 5 mm thick.

Lay the sheet on the mat, cut it strictly according to the pencil markings with a breadboard knife.

Divide all the strips into two parts, lay one of them across on the rug, it is best to glue the ends on your side onto a sheet of cardboard or thick paper so that they do not move during operation.

Start weaving with the second part of the blanks, the simplest one will do - through one strip, try to make the braid as dense as possible and there are no holes, otherwise the base under it will shine through.

Depending on the desired size of the basket, weave the required number of rows, cut off the excess parts of the strips along the edges, while leaving the tails of the braid at least 5 cm.

From a thick "box" cardboard, cut out a square of the desired size.

Put a braid on it, bend the tails first from above and below, glue it with quick-drying glue from the wrong side of the square.

After that, bend and fix the remaining sides, I recommend doing this with a little tension so that the braid does not swell anywhere and looks even.

Glue the designer cardboard to the mat from the wrong side, this will allow you to perform further work carefully, since the base will not move and you will clearly see the working field.

Glue the prepared basket to the bottom of the window.

For additional volume of the lower part of the bouquet, you can make separate leaves: take a strip of green paper about 10 cm wide, fold it in half, cut out several leaves at random from the fold side, unfold each of them.

Twist the tips of each leaf a little with a wooden stick.

With a sharp knife, rub the green pencil of the dry pastel.

Lightly wipe the leaves with the resulting crumb.

The number of leaves depends solely on your desire - with their help, you can make the bouquet more magnificent by gluing it on top and sides, or you can decorate it only from below, as in this example.

Select three flowers of different colors, glue two leaves to each of them.

Fix the first flower at the top of the basket, placing it in the middle and so that it looks down, then add the other two flowers along the edge - they will look in different directions.

Now form a general bouquet from the remaining parts, use quick-drying glue or a glue gun.

It remains to make a handle to our basket. To do this, prepare small circles from the remaining brown stripes: twist each on a toothpick, remove and let it bloom a little, glue the end of the paper.

In today's article, we continue to get acquainted with the topic of quilling, we will consider MK for beginners, we will make quilling flowers in various versions.

Basket of flowers

Let's start crafting quilling flowers as a new master class dedicated to making a voluminous quilling basket, and decorate it with flowers. Roses and lilies of the valley are a great option for postcards or decorating a gift box.

For leaflets and lilies of the valley it is necessary to use paper strips, the width of which is 0.2 cm, for the basket you need to take strips of 0.3 cm, for roses prepare a paper sheet.

Roll up large lily of the valley leaves. To get the stems, roll the strips in the middle and twist them a little, giving them a rounded shape - some stems are useful for lilies of the valley, others for rose leaves.

To make lily of the valley buds - you need to twist the spirals of white stripes, and the petals with the crescent element. Glue the flowers onto the strips prepared for the stems.

Quilling flowers - rose leaves: make green paper spirals, dissolve them a little, squeeze along the edges, forming petals. Glue three leaves per stem.

Roses made from paper. To get the extreme petals, you need to cut out not large circles, twist the cores from spirals, the diameter of which is 25 mm. Core: cut a spiral from a circle, twist it onto a quilling fixture or a toothpick. Next, you need to form roses: lay out the base of the flower from five elements, and glue the core of the spiral to the center.

We make a basket with our own hands: you must first wind the spirals, and then form semicircular figures from them.

After making all the elements, proceed to collect the quilling pattern. Glue lily of the valley leaves to the background. Checking the drawing, lay out, glue all the flowers and leaves. Glue half of the branches only from below, they will be covered with a basket, this will add volume to the picture.

Assemble the craft by gluing the figures with a flat semicircular part.

Hello, friends! Today we will continue a series of quilling lessons for beginners. The new master class that I have prepared for you is dedicated to making a voluminous craft, namely, a quilling basket, which can be an interesting packaging for a small gift (for example, jewelry) or for money. And to decorate the basket itself, we will make simple flowers using the quilling technique.

Materials and tools:

colored paper for quilling;

quilling tool;

PVA glue.

At the heart of the whole product is one of the main elements of the “drop” quilling (I demonstrated the technique of its manufacture in detail), and such details need to be prepared in large quantities. I made them from blue paper strips.

Then, having chosen the desired shape and size of the future basket, we begin to lay out the “drop” elements, gluing them together in this order. To do this, I remind you, using a toothpick, gently grease the side surfaces of the parts with glue, making sure that the workpiece does not stick to the work surface.

For convenience and greater accuracy, you can cut out a template from paper that repeats the outline of the basket, and already do all the manipulations on it. As you can see, my basket will be trapezoidal in shape.

We need two such blanks - these will be the front and back of the basket.

Ready. Now let's proceed to the side walls and the bottom of the quilling basket. We glue the same “drop” elements again, but in a different order. You should get such a strip, the length of which is equal to the sum of the lengths of the 3 sides of the previous parts.

Having assembled one side, glue the second wall.

Let the basket dry. In the meantime, let's start making the handle. We will also assemble it from the “drop” elements, gluing them together in this order:

On the resulting paper tape, for greater strength, glue two strips of paper of the same color on the back side.

Glue the dried handle to our basket.

We will decorate our basket with quilling flowers - the last flowers of the past summer :). There will be a chamomile in the center of the composition (we have already done it before: petals - from the “drop” elements, leaves - from the “wave” elements, the core is a regular roll).

And additional bright accents will create contrasting fringed flowers. These are some of the easiest quilling flowers to make and are good practice for beginners.

By the way, you can find out more about the varieties of flowers in the quilling technique and how to make them.

One of the ways how to make a fringed flower, I will show you now. We will need a strip of lilac paper (or another color you choose) wide 1 cm and long 29 cm.

Along the entire length of the strip, we will make transverse cuts with scissors about 6 mm and with an interval of 2-3 mm.

The strip prepared in this way is cut into 2 parts. It turned out blanks for two flowers.

We twist each blank into a roll.

Glue the end of the strip.

When the glue dries, gently “open” the buds.

Everything is ready, it remains to fix the flowers and leaves on the basket.

Here is such a quilling basket I got:

A little patience, and you will also get a bright and original gift wrapping using the 3D quilling technique, with which you can please your loved ones on some festive occasion, or maybe even without any reason :).
