We continue to talk about how you can update the decor and decorate the apartment using old sweaters. In today's workshop, you will learn how to make your own Christmas "boots" for gifts from old sweaters. Unusual and festive!

Christmas holidays are getting closer, which means that very soon everyone will start thinking about gifts for the family. If you already know what to give the children, you should think about the way of giving. Of course, a place under the pillow on under the Christmas tree for the New Year 2018 is always suitable. But if you don't mind moving away from traditional methods, sew these cute New Year's socks from old sweaters to put small presents in them.

Such Christmas socks or, as they are also called, boots, can also be an excellent decoration for the apartment for the New Year. Even if you don't plan to put anything in them. It will turn out budget, beautiful and original!

To sew a New Year's sock from a sweater, you will need:

  • old sweaters;
  • sock pattern;
  • dense fabric (linen or decorative burlap);
  • threads;
  • scissors.

How to sew a DIY Christmas sock for gifts

1. Select those sweaters that you do not mind cutting. It is from them that you will sew a Christmas sock for gifts.

2. Print the sock template on paper, cut it out and transfer the outline to a thick fabric.

4. Cut the sweaters into strips 5-7 cm wide. To make the strips even, it is better to use a circular knife and a ruler.

5. If you decide to use several sweaters, you should end up with many stripes of different colors and textures.

6. Using the base of the New Year's sock made of thick fabric, lay the strips on it to form the kind of sock that you like. Combine sweater stripes of different patterns, textures and densities.

7. Sew each strip of the sweater together, leaving only the part that will connect to the heel untouched.

8. Cut out a triangle from an unnecessary piece of sweater that will fit the heel.

9. First sew the “heel” to the top strip, and then to the bottom. After that, finish EACH seam with an additional zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.

10. On the front side of the resulting combination of knitted stripes, pin the base of dense fabric with pins.

11. Sew the back of the canvas to the front of the stripes around the perimeter, leaving the “entrance” for gifts.

12. Trim off any excess from the Christmas sock that you have almost sewn so that the full shape of the sock becomes visible.

13. Make a few tiny cuts along the inside crease of the sock so that the seam looks nicer when you turn the sock inside out.

14. Work all the edges of the sock around the perimeter with a zigzag stitch.

15. Flip the New Year's sock with the knitted side facing you.

16. Save the neckline or rib (bottom) of the sweater to use for the top of the Christmas sock. Place this section right side down at the top edge of the sock and immediately sew to it. Sew only on top, without touching the sides. The elastic should be longer than the width of the top of the sock by 6 millimeters on each side.

17. Sew the sides together and finish these seams with a zigzag stitch.

18. Also work with a zigzag stitch on the seam where you sewed the cuffs to the top edge of the New Year's sock. Turn the sock right side out.

19. For a loop to hang a Christmas sock on, cut a 5x15 cm strip from a sweater.

20. Fold the long sides of the sweater strip together and sew along. Finish with a zigzag stitch.

21. Turn right side out.

22. Fold in an arc and sew to the back of the sock from the inside, while lifting the cuffs. This forms a loop.

23. Christmas sock is ready!

If you have enough sweater strips, you can make Christmas socks for each member of the family. It will take you less and less time to create each new sock.

Hang these Christmas gift socks you made from old sweaters on the fireplace if you have one, on a closet, nightstand or above the bed in every room.

In recent decades, the traditional attributes of Western Catholic Christmas have been added to the traditional Soviet attributes of the New Year, and one example is the Christmas sock, and today we will show and tell you how to sew a New Year's sock with your own hands.

Since the New Year is celebrated on a larger scale in our country, it is customary to give gifts on this New Year's Eve. Accordingly, the Christmas sock (or as it is also called a stocking or boot) in our country has become New Year's. From our mantelpieces, he moved to bookshelves, to the headboards of cribs, and even to interior doors. Wherever you hang this New Year's surprise, the child will be crazy to find it on New Year's Eve.

New Year's sock for gifts does not have to be hung up, you can put them under the tree. To avoid confusion with gifts, make personalized boots for all family members and guests by signing each of them. Believe me, any adult will be very happy to receive his New Year's gift in such an unusual (and if it is made by your own hands, then also original) package!

Today we will tell you how to sew a New Year's sock for gifts from red and white felt (2 options of varying complexity) and another faux fur boot.

So, let's start with felt Christmas boots.

How to sew a Christmas felt sock:

We need the following materials for the first New Year's boot:
  • Pattern.
  • Red and white felt.
  • Red ballpoint pen or pencil.
  • Red and white threads.

Let's start making:

First, we will make a pattern on paper (by the way, we will need it for all three options) - draw a sock yourself or print our pattern. Cut out the paper boot.

  1. We apply the pattern to the white felt, circle it and cut out two identical parts. From red felt we cut out two identical parts of the cuff (lapel).
  2. We sew a part of the cuff to each part of the sock (front cuff to front sock).
  3. Now let's deal with the snowflakes that we need to decorate the product. Cut out a few circles from white felt and draw simple snowflakes on them with red paste (complex patterns will be difficult to cut out). We take scissors and cut out these snowflakes, stepping back from the red line by 2 mm.
  4. On one part of the sock, on its front side, we sew several snowflakes so that the red lines on the snowflakes are visible.
  5. We sew both parts of the sock, folding them with the wrong side to each other (turn the cuffs up). We make a line with a white thread along the contour of the part, departing from the edge of 4 mm, perform a line on the cuffs with a red thread.
  6. Turn the cuff down. Sew a couple of snowflakes on it, but this time the marks from the handle should be on the inside.
  7. We cut a loop from the remnants of red felt, process it with curly scissors and sew it on. We also cut along the contour of the entire boot.

Our first option is ready!

For the second New Year's sock we need:
  • Pattern.
  • Red and white felt.
  • Adhesive for fabric.
  • Ordinary scissors and scissors for curly cutting.
  • Red and white threads

Let's start making:

  1. From white felt we cut out the sock itself (2 parts), all other parts one by one from red felt (the lapel will need 2 pcs.). We sew the parts from white felt with a red thread over the edge.
  2. Sew with white thread over the edge of the toe and heel.
  3. We sew two parts of the cuff to the sock and from the sides to each other.
  4. Now let's do the applique - carefully glue the details of the horse and other dyeing. On the heel, toe and cuffs, you can glue a small round of white felt.
  5. And do not forget about the loop, process a strip of red felt with curly scissors and sew it to the cuff.

DIY New Year's sock made of faux fur:

For a fur New Year's boot, we need:
  • Pattern.
  • White faux fur.
  • Scissors.
  • Threads
For decoration:
  • Ribbons, cones, Christmas twigs, glitter, confetti, silver paint.
Let's start making:
  1. We cut out two parts of the sock and cuffs from the fur.
  2. We fold the patterns of the sock with the fur inward and sew it on our hands with a seam over the edge or make a line on a typewriter.
  3. Attach the cuff details with the right side to the wrong side of the sock and sew. Then turn the product inside out and straighten the cuffs (lapel).
  4. Let's start decorating. Tie a red satin ribbon into a simple bow and sew to the sock. Glue cones and twigs to the bow. To give them a "frosty" look, apply a few strokes of silver paint.
  5. Glitter and confetti stick all over the sock.

1. If you know how to knit, then you will still have time to knit a few pairs. You just need to choose a Christmas pattern: Christmas trees, snowflakes, snowmen, penguins, reindeers, etc. You can connect the grandmother.

2. If you don’t know how to knit or are too lazy, then you can look around the house for old knitted socks, preferably long ones like knee-highs. It often happens that one sock is there, and the second is lost. And the remaining sock lies idle and bored. Just the kind we need! It will serve as the basis. It can be decorated with beads, buttons, small Christmas balls, bright red ribbon, spruce branch, sew on a bow.

Even a child can handle this. Or you can cut out an appliqué - the same deer, elk, snowman or Christmas tree and sew with large sweeping stitches on the toe. Turn on your imagination and let your child create and invent. Don't forget to sew on a small loop to hang your sock on.

3. If you don’t have scattered socks, then take a pair that you don’t mind or buy inexpensive knitted stockings on the market. You can put rhinestones, bells, beads, even sweets on their decoration! You can also decorate them with multi-colored pieces of fabric cut from old unnecessary sweaters.

4. Christmas socks can be made from traditional red fabric, and edging with a wide green ribbon. Or sew from Christmas fabric (you can use a New Year's towel for this - they often come with beautiful holiday patterns). But the main thing is then to decorate this self-sewn sock properly! You can use cozy faux fur or airy tulle to finish the upper edge.

5. Often Christmas socks are made “personalised”: the name of the owner is sewn on each sock, or you can write “mom”, “dad”, “daughter”, or you can only write the first letter of the name. And anything else you can think of!

There are many festive attributes that help create a special atmosphere. For example, Christmas socks are used in many countries at Christmas. How did this tradition come about? And how to make this accessory with your own hands?

In many countries of America and Europe, it is customary on the eve of the most important Catholic holiday of the Nativity of Christ to hang Christmas socks in houses. They usually put sweets in them, which children find in the early morning and happily begin to try. At first glance, it may seem that such an accessory is intended only to play with the presentation of gifts in an interesting way. And this is partly true, but still, this attribute did not appear for this reason.

Initially, Christmas socks appeared in Western Europe and America. Catholic Orthodoxy is preached in most countries, and Santa Claus, who usually gives gifts to obedient children, was originally a saint. But how are socks associated with it, which have become an integral attribute of the holiday?

According to one of the existing legends, in a small English town there lived a man who, after the death of his beloved wife, raised three daughters alone. And he was very worried because of his poverty, believing that no one needed girls without a dowry and simply could not get married. He shared his thoughts with a friend, but Santa Claus himself heard him. He decided to give the girls gifts and reassure the widower. But, going down the chimney to the family's house, Santa Claus did not see the Christmas tree. But washed and drying socks were hung over the fireplace. And then he decided to put the gold coins prepared for his daughters there.

Sutra girls found the money in their socks and shared such good news with other residents of the city. Naturally, the people believed in a miracle and decided that if you hang socks around the house on Christmas Eve, then in the morning you can find something pleasant and valuable in them. Since then, this tradition has taken root and has become an integral part of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ.

What can be socks?

Christmas socks can be very different, there are no rules for their manufacture or restrictions related to the appearance of such an attribute. But since Christmas is a bright family holiday, it has long been customary to decorate such an accessory in an original way, decorate it abundantly and make it bright so that Santa Claus will certainly notice it and put it inside the goodies.

Colors can be very different, but bright colors associated with fun and a festive atmosphere are especially welcome, for example, red, green, yellow, blue and others. But it is not at all necessary to make socks plain, they can be multi-colored, decorated with themed Christmas or other patterns.

Special attention is paid to the decor, it is advisable not to bypass it. As a rule, the upper part of the sock is decorated, that is, its elastic band. In various photos and illustrations, socks decorated with fur edges are often found, but any other materials or details can be used, for example, satin ribbons, beads, fir branches or cones, artificial berries or fruits, sequins, beads, rhinestones and much more. But the base of the product can also be bright, you can create a whole application on it, the appearance of the accessory will only benefit from this.

How to make socks for Christmas with your own hands?

It is quite possible to make Christmas socks with your own hands, and there are a lot of options. The most interesting ones are detailed below.

sweater socks

To make original socks, use any old sweater. In addition to the main material, you will also need tracing paper, felt, braid, scissors, thread, a sewing machine, buttons, yarn and a crochet hook, as well as glue or a glue gun.

Manufacturing:

  1. Make a pattern on the tracing paper by drawing the details of the sock (the simplest will consist of two identical parts, but the cuffs (elastic band) and the base can be separated).
  2. Now cut out the front and back parts from the old sweater and sew them with the right sides using a needle and thread, and preferably a sewing machine, if you have one. Sew the details along the edge twice so that the threads do not unravel (otherwise the product will not last long and will look sloppy).
  3. Sew a ribbon along the edge of the cuff.
  4. Turn the sock inside out and start decorating. You can make an interesting fringe out of yarn: cut it into small pieces of the same length and thread it with a crochet hook along the bottom edge of the braid.
  5. Any application can be cut out of felt and glued to the sock with a glue gun. Complete it with buttons, attaching them in the same way.

Fabric socks with a snowman

Socks can be sewn, it's easy. For manufacturing you will need:

  • any material, for example, cotton, knitwear, felt, fleece (it is better to use soft, but dense, so that the finished product is voluminous and keeps its shape well);
  • needle and thread;
  • paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • pencil;
  • material of a contrasting color, a ribbon or a strip of fur for decorating the upper part;
  • synthetic winterizer or white felt;
  • beads.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. First you need to make a paper blank by drawing and cutting out a sock.
  2. Using the blank, cut out the front and back parts from the material. Bring them right sides together and sew along the edge, then turn them inside out. The base is ready.
  3. Then you can move on to the most interesting - to the decor. A strip of fur or other material (preferably white or contrasting with the main color) can be sewn along the edge of the cuff.
  4. Now start making the application in the form of a snowman. Roll one ball out of felt or synthetic winterizer, flatten it to make it flatter, and then fix it on the toe with glue. Attach the second ball in the same way, but it should be smaller than the first and located above it. Next, make a snowman's head, attach it too.
  5. From beads, make eyes, nose and mouth by sewing them on.
  6. Embroider the hands of the snowman with threads.
  7. Ready!

Quilted socks with a Christmas tree branch and cones

To make original quilted socks with an interesting decor, prepare:

  • material for the manufacture of the outer part of the sock;
  • soft lining material, for example, synthetic winterizer;
  • spruce branch;
  • bump;
  • threads;
  • sewing machine;
  • wide braid;
  • scissors, paper and pencil.

Description of the manufacturing process:

  1. First, draw a sock on paper and cut it out.
  2. On a paper blank, cut out four parts of the future sock: two facial and two purl.
  3. Connect the parts in pairs so that you end up with two parts: the wrong side and the front. Lay a layer of lining between them, sew everything together along the edge on a sewing machine, and then quilt.
  4. Connect the two quilted pieces by sewing them together. Sew a wide braid along the edge to completely close the joints.
  5. Decorate the upper part of the product with braid too.
  6. Sew a spruce twig and a cone to the cuff.

Some useful tips:

  • If the family is large, then you can sign all the socks by attaching pieces of paper or fabric with names to them.
  • Usually socks are hung over the mantelpiece, but not every house has a fireplace, much less every apartment. But there are no clear rules and places, so hang these accessories anywhere, for example, above the bed, on the closet, on the door, or in any other areas of the room. In addition, the sock can become an interesting Christmas decoration.
  • It will be great if each family member makes a sock with his own hands and gives it to someone from his family. Such gifts are especially appreciated and cheer up.
  • If you know how to knit, then just knit Christmas socks.
  • Show your imagination! Perhaps you will get something more interesting than the options described above.

Interesting holiday! And let the socks decorate your house!

A universal selection of gift ideas for every occasion and occasion. Surprise your friends and loved ones! ;)

Good day! What associations does the phrase "New Year's socks" evoke in you? Can you imagine warm and cozy knitted socks with deer and snowflakes on the legs, blissfully stretched out in front of the fireplace? Everything is almost like that, only we are not talking about ordinary socks, but about Christmas decorative ones - original containers for gifts from Santa, St. Nicholas and Santa Claus.

How New Year's socks and master classes appeared

European traditions are actively penetrating the lives of Russians. We began to celebrate Valentine's Day, celebrate Halloween and call Santa Claus Santa. I don't think it's bad. The exchange of experience and rituals arouses interest, motivates to search for new interesting ideas for organizing holidays. So, for example, not so long ago, St. Nicholas Day was celebrated not in every family. Today is a great occasion for moms and dads to please the kids with little surprises.

In Europe and America, on St. Nicholas Day - December 19, obedient boys and girls receive an award in special socks. They are hung over mantelpieces or over children's beds.

According to the legend, the tradition of filling socks with sweets appeared many hundreds of years ago. On the eve of the holiday, in this way St. Nicholas made happy three sisters from a very poor family. The miracle worker helped the girls with the dowry by tossing a bag of gold into their socks to dry by the fireplace. All the sisters successfully married and lived a happy life.

Adults put gifts in socks for modern children for good behavior and just like that, wanting to please, to prolong faith in a miracle. It is appropriate to hang socks not only on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, but also on Christmas and New Year. There are never too many miracles and gifts, so why not give your loved ones joy? I will tell you how to make cool bright and unusual socks with your own hands from improvised materials. Detailed master classes and photos will help you understand and repeat the lessons.

Classic fabric Christmas boot

Do not buy ready-made socks in the store! Make such a boot on your own, introduce the child to the process by combining efforts and imagination, because it's so cool and not difficult to make small masterpieces. Let's start with the classic version - the traditional Christmas sock.

Designate for yourself how many units and what size you plan to make. Maybe you like the idea of sewing a sock for each member of the family according to the principle: the oldest - the biggest sock, the smallest - miniature with a fun design? In any case, in the process you will need a New Year's fabric with Christmas trees, snowflakes, deer or Santa Claus. You can replace the material with a kitchen towel of the desired theme.

Once you find the right fabric, move on to the pattern. Draw a sock pattern on paper. Freehand draw it in any shape you like, or use a ready-made template from the web. Attach the pattern to the fabric folded in half, circle with a piece of chalk or soap and carefully cut out. Further even easier - sew the product along the edges from the wrong side and turn it inside out.

Decorate the finished boot for New Year and Christmas surprises with lapels, lace, braid and everything that you think is appropriate. Hang the finished socks over the fireplace or in any other suitable place for a specially sewn loop of braid.

Decorative paper sock

Paper socks for the New Year or felt boots play only the role of decor. Due to their looseness, they are not suitable for gifts, but they effectively decorate the house.

Use them to create a New Year's atmosphere and festive mood, especially since it will take very little time to make.

Like any paper sock craft, it starts with a layout. Make one of cardboard or thick paper, be sure to involve the child in the lesson - let him practice his ability to draw, trace, cut. Circle the rough sock on landscape sheets as many times as you need finished products. Cut and color with bright colors, decorate with sparkles, rain and serpentine. Fasten loops on the socks and hang them around the house.

This is how socks made of paper or felt can turn out.

Knitted boots from an old sweater

Surely you have several old stretched sweaters lying around at home, which are a pity to throw away, but are already uncomfortable to wear. For Christmas boots, this is the perfect base. Prepare:

  • layout;
  • sweaters;
  • dense fabric (burlap, drape, linen is suitable);
  • scissors;
  • thread and needle.

Place the product template (can be removed directly from the sock) on a thick fabric and circle. Cut out. You will prepare the base.

Next, knitted sweaters enter the process. Cut out several strips 5 to 7 cm wide, preferably with a different pattern and a great color. Use a ruler and preferably a circular knife to make it neat. The more different stripes you get, the more interesting the final result will be. Then continue to work with the fabric base. Arrange the stripes on it as you like in such a way that you get a cute colored sock, combining textures, colors and patterns of details. Sew the strips together until you touch the part that will be eaten with the heel.

From the remaining sweater, cut out a triangle with the dimensions corresponding to the parameters of the heel, sew it with stripes at the top and bottom. Work all seams with zigzag stitches - they will not allow the loops to creep. Attach the base to the finished “knitted” New Year's sock, the easiest way is to sew the details. Turn inside out and sew on the back, thus preparing a “pocket” for gifts. Correct the shape of the sock, cutting off everything unnecessary, turn the product right side out again.

The final touch is a loop at the top of the sock for fastening. You can make it in any of the ways you like. It can be a hand-crocheted loop, an element of braid, a dense knitted thread. To make the sock look more natural and cozy, add cuffs. An elastic band from a sweater is ideal for their role.

Unusual fruit-shaped socks: bright ideas for bright people

If the soul asks for a holiday and creativity, try to move away from patterns and forget about the traditional New Year's symbolism for a while. I propose to make cool holiday socks for the New Year in the form of fruits. Children will be delighted with these!

As a basis, take a proven felt of bright colors: red, yellow and green. Decor - from braid. For fastening - glue. It is convenient to work with sharp scissors and chalk.

  • Let's start with appetizing and juicy watermelon. Use red or pink and green felt. Also, quite a bit of black material for seeds is needed. The decor will look great from the usual white braid. So, for starters, cut out the base for the boot from red or pink felt. Please note that the base must be double so that the sock can be sewn or glued.

Separately cut a loop from felt or braid. It can also be sewn on or glued on. The green fabric plays the role of a watermelon rind. Cut out a wide strip and glue it to the top of the sock as a cuff. Decorate it with black "bones". Seal the border between the flowers with white tape. The sock is ready - festive and attractive.

  • Variation on a theme, but with an exotic twist - pineapple sock. Why not? Among the snowy landscapes, a sunny yellow boot for gifts fills with optimism. Sew the product simply by analogy with the "watermelon". Use rich yellow felt and some green fabric for the top. Prepare a paper layout and transfer it to the felt folded in half.

To make the fruit embossed and more natural, sew it with braid over the entire surface (neat lines intersecting diagonally). Make cuffs from green material and do not forget about a strong loop. She should not let you down at the most crucial moment - when the time comes to pack the sock with gifts.

  • Strawberry sock done on the same principle as pineapple or watermelon. Base - double red felt. Glue or sew it on the sides to make a pouch. Decorate the strawberry with green leaves and white felt dots.

All three types of boots look beautiful and festive in a set. If possible, make a “fruit” for each child. Let them guess who is who and where is whose gift!

Ice cream cone sock: a creative solution for the resourceful

What makes children happy? What do they love most in the world? Of course it's ice cream! And this means that New Year's socks in the form of a favorite delicacy are the best thing that adults could come up with! Making such wonderful containers for sweets and small gifts is as easy as shelling pears from the same felt.

Prepare a pattern for a New Year's sock, cut a blank of beige fabric folded in half along its contours. This will be an ice cream cone. Apply diagonal lines to the surface of the sock and sew them on a typewriter for relief. Cut out balls of goodies from colored felt, decorate with colored sugar, marmalade and chocolate with the children. These will be the cuffs. Cut out decor details from suitable fabrics, use a glue gun for a durable and convenient attachment.

Magnetic sock in the nursery

A cool and unusual idea is a Christmas boot with a magnet. Its convenience lies in the versatility of fastening.

You can hang such a "panel" anywhere, from the nursery to the front door. This is very convenient when there is no fireplace over which to hang socks according to tradition. After the end of the holiday, you can fix the magnet on the refrigerator, hide recipes, notes in the New Year's boot, leave notes to each other. And that's not it. Pens, scissors, napkins and even household chemicals will fit perfectly in the "pocket". In a word - a useful and effective thing!

How to do:

  1. Cut a sock out of cardboard large enough to fit a gift box behind.
  2. Paste the cardboard blank with colored napkins or pieces of cloth.
  3. Stick a soft magnet on one side and a colored sock on the other on a box that is suitable in size.

This is all. Then you can supplement the product with a fabric base with a pattern or inscriptions, or you can leave the boot as it is. If you like the first option more, then you will need thick cardboard in addition to the fabric. It will hold the base. Paste over the cardboard with a fabric that has been previously measured and cut to size. Make an applique in the form of Christmas drawings or patterns. In the center, leave a place for attaching a magnetic shoe.

Of course, these are not all options. There are still a lot of ideas with knitting socks with knitting needles or filigree crocheted patterns, sewing using linen, drape, burlap.

Make cool shoes just from old winter coats and jackets. Particularly resourceful make whole garlands of fabric and paper socks for children, friends and relatives.

Friends, this is the end, share ideas and master classes online, share experiences and inspire and be inspired!

Sincerely, Anastasia Skoreva
