What are the shadows, how to choose and apply them correctly, who is more suitable for? Read our beauty cheat sheet to take it to the next level!

Types of eyeshadow

Eyeshadow is an essential makeup element. With their help, you can adjust, make them larger and more expressive. This requires the right application techniques and a basic knowledge of product types and textures. Find out how different eyeshadows differ.

Compact eyeshadow

Compact shadows are the most common type of shadows. In their production, pigments are mixed with binders and pressed together. Today, the beauty market offers a huge selection of compact shadows: different colors, textures, durability. Recently, large palettes have come into vogue - it is convenient to take them with you on trips and experiment with makeup (read how to choose the right palette).

Shadow pencil

Eyeshadow pencil is a salvation for those who have just started to master this category of makeup products. they follow straight with the stick, thickly painting over the eyelids. As a rule, pencil eyeshadows are less pigmented than other types, so they can be distributed without fear of overdoing them with the intensity of the shade. It is convenient to shade the color directly with your finger. Especially pencil shadows are good for those who fail the smoky ice technique: a smoky effect can be created in two minutes by running a stick along the upper and lower edges of the eyelashes. And you're done!

Cream eyeshadow

Creamy eyeshadows are especially appreciated by makeup fans, because they merge with the skin texture as much as possible. Unfortunately, such mild products are generally not very persistent and tend to roll off quickly in the creases of the eyelid. In this case, stock up on a good primer - it will help keep your makeup until the evening.

Of course, there are also ultra- and even waterproof cream eyeshadows. Under them, of course, it is not necessary to apply the base. You can apply cream eyeshadow either with brushes with artificial bristles or with your fingers: as you like. Different options for how you can apply cream eyeshadow are in our video.

Baked eyeshadow

Baked eyeshadows are a mixture of mineral pigments that are subsequently baked in a special way. Thus, moisture evaporates, and all minerals, pigments and shimmering particles remain. In appearance, baked eyeshadows are not too different from classic powdery ones. All the difference is visible upon application. They can be applied wet and dry. In the first case, they slightly shine, in the second - the effect of a foil on the eyelids is obtained.

Mineral eyeshadow

Mineral shadows are produced as follows: Minerals such as iron oxides, talc, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are micronized or ground into tiny particles. Mineral eyeshadows gained their popularity in the 1970s in America, when naturalness was at the height of fashion.

Today, the demand for mineral cosmetics does not subside. The difference is that it does not contain a number of ingredients: emollient oils and waxes, fragrances and preservatives found in conventional formulas.

Mineral shadows are always released only in a crumbly form. Their intensity can be different, depending on the manufacturer's brand.

Loose eyeshadow

Loose eyeshadows are similar to classic pressed eyeshadows, except that they do not mix pigments with any binders. Therefore, they have a loose, powdery consistency. Loose eyeshadows are sold in miniature jars. Such products are especially loved by professional makeup artists. Indeed, with their help, you can achieve any color intensity. It is recommended to apply them with a brush.

Liquid eyeshadow

Liquid shadows are new to the beauty market. This formula has existed not so long ago, but it is already loved by many. Outwardly, they resemble lip gloss: similar tube packaging and applicator for application. Glitter micro-particles are often added to them, creating a beautiful shimmering effect on the eyelids. In matters of application, liquid shadows are one of the simplest: they do not crumble, they are easily shaded.

Pearlescent or shimmery shadows

Many people today mistakenly consider pearlescent shadows outdated, recalling the fashion for them in the 1990s. However, modern formulas are a completely different story: they no longer shine like foil, and the choice in shades has become much wider.

Pearlescent shadows are a great option for beginners in makeup, because they are easy to shade and easily combine with any other textures.

Shimmering shadows are distinguished by the presence of small sparkles. The very same base can be any - from shiny to matte. Both the one and the other type of shadows, due to their radiance, looks more appropriate in the evening under artificial lighting.

Matte eyeshadow

Among all types of shadows, matte looks the most natural (when using nude shades): there are no shiny particles in their composition, so on the eyelids they look like powder. But they are also the hardest to apply: their dry formula is reluctant to blend.

Which matte shadows are best for you?

  • When choosing matte eyeshadows, be sure to place them on your fingertips and blend on the back of your hand. The best ones will be those whose texture is most suitable for the description of "silky": such shadows will shade well and look natural.
  • Excessively dry shadows, reminiscent of chalk in consistency, are best set aside.
  • Today, every beauty brand produces matte eyeshadow palettes that include four shades or more. Color combinations for them are selected by professional makeup artists, which means that each shade can be worn separately or mixed with each other.

Makeup with matte shadows

Matte eyeshadows in subtle earth tones or pastels are perfect for daytime makeup for a natural and discreet look. When creating evening makeup, pay attention to dark or saturated colors: with these, the smoky ice effect looks especially good. Matte shadows are also very convenient for making arrows: just moisten the brush with water and the matte texture will turn into super-pigmented, suitable for drawing lines. For more information on how to repeat this trick, see our video tutorial:

Glitter eyeshadow

Sequins have been an undeniable trend over the past few seasons. For those who do not risk immediately applying glitter to the eyelids, as podium makeup artists did at shows, there is a safer option - glitter shadows.

An important point: the sequins should be of medium size - not too small, otherwise there is a risk that it will look like a mother-of-pearl effect, but not too large.

Shiny shadows can be relevant day and night. One condition: in daytime makeup, glitter should be the only accent on the face. Take an example from the models: a clean, as if unpainted face, and glitter on the eyelids - with this makeup they look fresh and uncommon.

How to apply shadows correctly: step-by-step photo and video tutorials

In makeup, there is no single correct way to apply shadows: depending on the shape of the eyes, the texture of the shadows, the occasion, your personal habits and many other factors, shadows can be applied in completely different ways. But there are some of the most popular techniques that are used the most. Read more about them in our photo instructions and videos. To get started - watch the video on the simplest way to apply shadow on the eyelids.

Smoky ice makeup

The classic version of evening make-up is “smoky” eyelids. Combine different shades of eyeshadow for interesting makeup options.

Apply the eyeshadow base to the lower and upper eyelids. Then, with a small, flat, natural brush, highlight one third of the lower eyelid with a deep bronze shade, and draw the line further down to the sweet upper eyelid.

Using a flat natural brush, distribute the same color over the entire movable eyelid to the orbital line.

With a light brown matte shade, blend the border of the dark shadows and accentuate the orbital line. Use a fluffy natural brush for a hazy effect.

With a smaller brush, blend along the lower border of the shadow of the same shade, filling the entire line of the lower eyelid.

Paint over the space between the eyelashes, the mucous membrane above and below with a waterproof brown pencil.

Use a small brush to place a "highlight" in the inner corner of the eye with a shade of shadows with a shimmer, and under the eyebrow use a softer, satin version.

Paint your lashes with dark brown mascara.

A video tutorial that will also help you repeat makeup using the Smokey Ice technique.

Loop Makeup

One of the oldest and most popular make-up techniques is quite simple to perform:

Blend light shadows all over the surface with a light shimmer.

With a soft black or brown eyeliner, paint along the lash line and loop up to the crease of the upper eyelid. Accentuate the line under the lower lashes.

With the same pencil, shade the area behind the "loop", darkening the corner of the eye.

With a small flat brush, "pull" the pencil into the shading, then with dark shadows, secure the pencil over the entire surface, leaving the edge "smoky".

Paint over the free part of the eyelid with light satin shadows, using them to lighten the area under the eyebrow.

Paint over the lash edge with black eyeliner and also take it into the “loop” to make the contrast of colors even more accurate and saturated.

Paint over your lashes with mascara.

Cutcrease makeup

Makeup with a well-defined eyelid crease came to us from Instagram, but today it is often found on the catwalk too.

Use a fluffy natural bristle brush to widely blend the light beige eyeshadow along the crease of the upper eyelid.

With a smaller brush, use darker brown shadows to emphasize the orbital line again.

Use the third (darkest) shade of brown to mark the crease and blend it.

With a flat artificial brush, paint over the entire movable eyelid with concealer, accurately and evenly outlining the fold line. In the outer corner of the eye, direct the brush towards the temple, blurring the feathering and making the gaze more open.

Set the concealer with a light beige eyeshadow, then highlight the area under the brow and the inner corner of the eye with a shimmering shadow.

Add a neat arrow with a small "ponytail", paint over the eyelashes.

How to replace the base under the shadow?

The base under the eyeshadow is the most important stage in eye makeup. It greatly enhances the shade of the eyeshadows and guarantees their durability, and also works as a primer, hiding wrinkles and preventing the shadows from hiding in the crease of the eyelid. In addition, the product perfectly mattifies the skin of the eyelids and prevents the eyeshadows from rolling throughout the day or evening. If you don't have a special foundation at hand, use loose powder: distribute it over the eyelids, and apply shadows on top. This way they will last longer.

Shadow shading technique

To make the eyes more expressive, there is a basic shading principle:

First of all, define your upper eyelid crease. From the top of the eyelash to the crease, the lightest shade is usually applied. Along the fold line, distribute the color a tone or two darker: it will make the fold more pronounced, add volume.

If you have a heavily overhanging upper eyelid and the crease is too low, blend the medium shadow a few millimeters above the crease. So, you artificially lift the movable eyelid and make the eyes larger.

With the same medium tone, darken the outer corners of the upper eyelids slightly: blend from the outer edge to the inner edge, bringing the brush to the middle of the eyelid. For evening makeup, add a darker color to the crease and outer corner of the eyes.

  • An important point: Newbies in makeup often press too hard on the brush, pressing it against the skin. This is not worth doing: all professional makeup artists use light, barely touching brush movements. Take your time, do everything in stages: correct shading takes a few minutes longer, but the result will impress you.

The last stage - with the same medium shade of shadows, run along the lower eyelid under the lash line.

  • A beautiful touch: with light shadows with sparkles, you can put a small accent in the middle of the upper movable eyelid and in the inner corner of the eyes - such a highlight will instantly make your look younger. The shades you use may vary, but the shading principle remains the same.
  • Recently, monochrome eyelid makeup has become fashionable. He will not be able to correct the shape and size of the eyes, but he looks unusual and fresh. For this look, you can even apply shadows with your fingers: spread one shade of shadows over the upper eyelid - matte or shine. Lightly blend the edges of the color. If desired, do the same for the lower eyelid. Ready!

What kind of brushes are needed for eye makeup? 5 types

Today, blending brushes can be found in the arsenal of almost all brands. For beginners, for the first time, two types will be enough - an average flat brush and a slightly fluffy one for shading. The first one you can distribute the color, the second, of course, gently smooth out the tones among themselves and soften the edges. Choose a bristle of brushes in accordance with what kind of shade you prefer: for creamy ones you need synthetic hairs, for powdery ones - natural ones.

Basic eyeshadow brush

The soft-bristled brush with a rounded tip is ideal for applying and distributing eyeshadow. The tip should be smaller than the size of your eyelid. Make sure that when working with the moving eyelid, the shadows are evenly distributed and the brush does not scratch the skin.

Blending brush

Peculiarities

Pearlescent eyeshadows are the most popular and beloved by many women. They are composed of small particles that have a metallic sheen. Also sometimes this effect is called - shimmer, when sparkling particles prevail in the shadows. The texture allows you to open up the look, remove fatigue plaque and refresh the image. It is very easy to be convinced of the possibilities of mother-of-pearl, you just have to take a little light shadows, apply on the movable eyelid, the area under the eyebrows and in the inner corner of the eye.

Such shadows are recommended to be used in creating images for walks, dates, institutions. The main thing to remember is the perfect eyelid skin. If there are wrinkles on it, it is better to abandon pearlescent shadows in favor of matte ones. Pearlescent shadows will not be able to correct the shape of the eye, make the look deep, but in combination with matte shadows, you will achieve an amazing effect (see photo).

Palette

It is safe to say that in almost all collections of any brands - from the most elite, professional and well-known - to budget options, most of the produced shadows are pearlescent. Therefore, choosing a suitable shade from the whole palette is not difficult. Light shades of pearlescent shadows are most in demand, since they are used as a highlighter in any makeup. Bright and luscious summer shades will allow you to create a variety of spring and summer looks. Calm and deep dark tones - warm and cold, are suitable for evening and festive makeup, autumn and business.

How to apply?

Eyeshadows with mother-of-pearl are applied using special applicators. They usually come with a set of shadows. Unfortunately, they are not always easy to use. The applicator head is very small, the handles are short, they often slip and fall out of the hands. To use pearlescent eyeshadows in eye makeup, it is best to purchase applicators separately, choosing with long handles and a comfortable head shape. You can apply such shadows with a wide flat brush, but applicators are still more convenient.

In order for the shadows with mother-of-pearl not to accentuate the imperfections, but to emphasize the beauty of the look, it is necessary to carefully study the condition of the skin around the eyes. These shadows are suitable for firm, young skin, without a hint of wrinkles. Otherwise, such shadows will only make you look older.

Usually, shadows are applied only to the middle of the upper eyelid, under the eyebrow and in the corner of the eye. It is customary to combine them with matte. You can also do multi-layered makeup, only in this case, use darker and deeper shades.

Makeup example

  1. Before you start painting your eyes, cover your eyelids with a special moisturizer, and then dust with a light translucent powder. Thanks to this, the shadows will fit much better on the eyelid, and the color will come out richer.
  2. Paint the upper eyelid with matte shades of the main tone. Apply a darker tone to the outer corner of the eyelid. Thoroughly blend the transitions so that they are almost invisible.
  3. To create contrast, apply pearlescent shadows on the middle part of the upper eyelid, approximately in the area of the iris of the eye. The bright spot should only be on the eyelid.
  4. Paint over the outer part of the fold with darker shadows. This area should be the darkest. Highlight the area above the fold with a grayish color.
  5. Apply light eyeshadow, matching the tone of the main colors used in makeup, under the eyebrow, and also following an arc from the outer corner to the inner corner. Feather all borders.
  6. If you wish, you can paint your eyes with eyeliner and apply mascara.

How to make such a make-up - look at the photo.

And last but not least. If you use pearlescent eyeshadows in your makeup, it is not recommended to combine them with shiny lipstick or shiny blush. Makeup should be accentuated only on the eyes, otherwise the make-up will look too vulgar and tasteless.

Video

Today we will do the most fashionable eye makeup this season with the help of loose pearlescent eyeshadow.

To create it you will need:

  • pearlescent loose shadows;
  • wax watercolor black, white, brown;
  • basic matte shadows;
  • ink.

In fact, every cosmetic brand now has loose pearlescent eyeshadows in its product line. Therefore, the choice is very large and you can choose whichever shade and grind you want. The master class used shadows from Cinecitta in brown and peach shades, and Tami Tanuka in blue, blue and purple. Very often pearlescent loose eyeshadows are called pigments, which are not. Therefore, if you are not particularly versed in cosmetics, when buying products, indicate that you need loose shadows.

Also, these eyeshadows require a very strong sticky base. It is very good if it is a long-lasting cream or gel eyeliner.

Such eye makeup implies a completely natural eyebrow frame. Therefore, bring your natural eyebrow down quite a bit, comb it well and fix it with a styler. Go over the eyelid with tone and fixing powder.

In the master class, we will work with watercolors, and we will also apply loose shadows on it. Highlight the area under the eyebrow using white watercolor. The transition to the fold should be smooth and neat. We also apply them to the corner of the eye, achieving a natural transition to a flesh tone.

Use brown watercolor to draw a shape, which we will fill with loose shadows. First, draw a correction arrow from the pupil towards the temple. It will continue and lengthen the shape of the eye.

Then, from the end of the tail of the arrow, we lead the part into the fold and along the lower eyelid.

Now we need to paint over the movable and lower eyelids to white. We paint over the middle and we shade all the lines of the part in the indicated directions. Lower eyelid to the ear, upper to the temple and smoothly combine the brown and white shading.

With the base matte shade of the shadows, cover the shading of brown watercolor. This is best done with a fluffy brush. We need this so that the pearlescent shadows do not stick and create a clear outline, but smoothly lay down from the watercolor onto the haze of the base shadows.

Now grab the darkest pearlescent shade. In this case, they are brown with a green tint. We apply them to the corner of the eye. We repeat with them the shape of the detail, which was originally drawn in watercolor. We do not smear the shadows, but drive in.

On the middle of the eyelid of both the upper and lower, we apply a blue shade of loose shadows. Closer to the corner, apply shadows of a green shade. It is as if we drive them into the skin.

Apply pearlescent shadows with a pinkish tint under the eyebrow and in the corner of the eye.

Now take a very small brush and paint in purple shadows. Gently apply them to the mucous membrane and drive in with an arrow along the upper ciliary row.

There are a large number of eye shadows today. They differ in texture, shade and properties. Despite their huge variety, they are all divided into matte and pearlescent. I would like to talk about the latter in more detail. Namely, talk about how to properly make makeup with pearlescent shadows.

Unlike matte ones, they contain small particles that shine beautifully and shimmer in the sun. This is what often attracts girls and women who want to look more dazzling and beautiful.

However, in everything you need to know when to stop. The mother-of-pearl eyeshadow is designed to bring freshness and clarity to the look, to enhance the natural color of the eyes and to relieve visible fatigue. But, in pursuit of all this, some ladies forget that such shadows are not a panacea at all and, despite all their beauty, can not be used for every occasion.

The first rule is that you shouldn't apply them at all before going to work, and if you add them to your make-up, then just a little bit. The places where they look beneficial are the inner corner of the eye, the middle of the upper moving eyelid and the area of the eyelid under the eyebrow.

But to apply them in a continuous layer on the entire movable eyelid is a mistake. And here's why: pearlescent shadows are able to emphasize any unevenness of the skin, especially wrinkles. Therefore, they should be chosen only by girls who are completely confident that time has not yet touched their appearance.

Unfortunately, women, around whose eyes, the reflections of "crow's feet" are already noticeable, should abandon this type of cosmetics in favor of matte shadows. The latter effectively hide all the imperfections, unlike mother-of-pearl, which, with its brilliance, flaunts any uneven line on the surface of the skin or its defects.

But, if you do not doubt that the condition of your eyelids allows you to safely use mother-of-pearl, do not forget - it is most suitable for evening make-up (or for special occasions). Only on rare days can you allow yourself to be one of the most brilliant and charming, in all other such shadows should remain on the sidelines.

For those who have not yet decided on the color of a suitable mother of pearl, it is worth starting with more neutral and almost universal shades - light peach, dazzling white, gray, radiant chestnut, pale pink or golden. They can be matched either to the tone of the iris, or to the color of the base shadows. It is impossible to use only pearlescent shadows in makeup; it is best to combine them with matte ones. So, the latter are applied to the entire movable eyelid and the area under the eyebrow, and shadows with reflective particles only add accents. However, it must be remembered that mother-of-pearl around the inner corner of the eye, as well as at the very edge of the outer corner, is not appropriate, thus it will only emphasize fatigue and make the eyes dull.

And in order for the make-up to be called complete, the eyes should be emphasized with a thin arrow (although this is optional, of course) and the eyelashes should be lengthened with mascara.

By the way, having chosen pearlescent shadows to create your image, you cannot combine them with the same powder and lipstick. Together, they will give the impression of a messy or even too flashy makeup. In this case, it is best to stop your attention on pastel colors, which is especially true for lipstick. It should never be as bright as your eyes.

To have such shadows in her cosmetic bag or not - every girl must decide for herself, but the fact that they will become indispensable at any party is a fact. Therefore, you need to learn how to use them correctly, so that if something happens you do not look too stupid or ridiculous, overdoing it with the color or the amount of shadows.

- you don't have to be a professional makeup artist. Wear what suits you. However, in order to give yourself a little confidence in your makeup, you need to know at least its basics - the theory of colors and which texture will look the most advantageous on your skin.

At the same time, you should not dwell on the color of the shadows - this is not the only criterion when choosing. If you understand that there are also different textures - matte, shiny, smooth - you can create a unique look.

In this article, we will tell you what color and texture shadows are right for you both for daily use and for special occasions.

How to choose eyeshadow

Skin tone

Skin tones are divided into two types these days: warm and cold. Despite this, different cosmetics companies will determine for their products which shade is cold and which is the other way around. There is no specific standard. At the same time, different shades are suitable for different shades, and it will be much easier for you if you know everything about your face.

In order to check what shade your skin is, you need to pay attention to the veins on the eyelids. In healthy people, the veins in the normal state are blue, and if the skin gives them a greenish color, then it has a yellow tint. If it gives purple, then your hue is red.

When you figure out what's what - it's up to little. With a warm skin tone, shadows of a warm color are ideally combined, and with a cold one, respectively - cold. Choosing opposite colors will add a little extravagance or drama to your look.

If you have a warm skin tone, the following colors will look most advantageous: bronze, vanilla, ivory, any shades of brown, pink and coral. If cold, experiment with light blue, lilac, greenish, and turquoise.

Eye color

By using eye color to determine the optimal palette of shadows, you are sure to get to the point and focus the attention of those around you exactly where you need it. Choosing a color that complements your eyes (the opposite on the color wheel) will allow you to add flavor to your look. If you use shadows that are similar to the color of your eyes, the effect will be softer and more natural.

Blue eyes: It's no secret that orange is the complete opposite of blue, so any shade of it in combination with blue eyes will look simply irresistible. In order to create a stunning look, it is best for blue-eyed girls to use all shades of orange, red and yellow. Copper, brown, gold, coral and pink - they are made just for you.

For a more mysterious and slightly more natural look, go for purple and greenish. Lilac, plum or olive will look interesting, but not defiant.

Green eyes: When choosing shadows, green-eyed girls should pay attention to shades of red, such as burgundy, pink and, directly, red. Purple, lavender and peach will help you create the look of your dreams effortlessly and perfectly complement the natural beauty of your eyes.

Warm metallic colors such as bronze and copper will not only accentuate your eyes, but will also be a great addition to the gray or brown specks on the iris that green-eyed people often boast.

Brown eyes: Brown doesn't mean boring. In fact, brown-eyed people are very lucky - the range of shades that playfully combine with their eyes is incredibly large. Makeup lovers with such eyes can safely experiment with amber, copper, gold, ash, lavender and gray.

In addition, do not forget that the three primary colors - yellow, red and blue, when mixed, form brown. Therefore, if you are lucky, choose any color that you think is in harmony with brown and get creative - there will be no end to everyone's attention.

Eye makeup

Hair color

In addition to eye color, hair color should also be taken into account, since it usually attracts a lot of attention, and against their background, makeup can either look too vulgar and defiant, or get lost and become invisible.

Black Brown: Brunettes are always lucky when choosing eyeshadow, as almost any color suits them, especially deep, dark shades of black, brown and purple. For a more natural and soft look, brunettes can be obtained with golden, beige, cream, green and yellow.

Blond: Usually natural blondes have a fairly light skin tone by nature. Therefore, warm and calm shadow colors will look most advantageous. Try pinkish, light purple and peach - you will definitely not go wrong and give your image tenderness and naturalness.

Ginger: For a long time, red-haired girls did not find a place for themselves in the fashion industry, and even the most daring decisions were not in their favor. However, over time, everything has changed, and now such a color, especially natural, looks irresistible and unique.

For girls with red hair, neutral shades are perfect, for example, brown, ivory, beige. However, deep saturated shades of green will give the look a more mysterious and daring look.

Bright, unnatural: For girls who love to experiment with hair and are not afraid of changes, shadows of any color will be most suitable. The only difference will be in the image and effect. For a defiant, bold look, shades that are opposite the hair color on the color wheel are suitable. On the contrary, for a softer and softer look, you need to use eyeshadow in the same shade as your hair.

Advice: Remember that using eyeshadow that is the same color as your eyes will make your look less visible - the colors will simply blend in. This does not mean that blue-eyed absolutely should not take blue shadows for makeup, and brown-eyed ones - brown ones. Just make sure to add some more shades to the look - in this case, the makeup will look a little more attractive and playful.

Texture

Many girls focus only on color when choosing shadows - this is a fairly common mistake. Shadows of different textures can help you achieve different effects, however, unfortunately, only a few people understand this.

What is texture

Texture describes how certain shadows look. To some extent, the texture can even be called their finish. The texture determines the price, the ease of use and, of course, the end result. It is applicable to all forms of eyeshadow - compressed powder, liquid and cream.

Texture is the most important consideration when working with a camera - especially for flash photography - but a basic knowledge will help you create your perfect look for every day.

Matte shadows

Matte shadows: The main stage of creating the perfect makeup should start with the use of matte eyeshadow. They do not have shine, so they are great for creating base and contour. Since matte shadows do not reflect light, they can be used with the camera to create a clear and pronounced shadow effect on the subject's eyes.

Some matte eyeshadows can be found in creamy form - they are slightly gliding, but most of them are produced as compressed powder. To get exactly the effect you are looking for, you should first check the color saturation and how finely the powder is ground.

Use gray and brown to create an eyebrow outline or crease, and black, navy or purple are great for eyeliner. Matte shadows can also be used to contour certain parts of the face, such as the nose or cheekbones. If you have fair skin, your colors are vanilla, cream and ivory. If the skin is darker, then beige or ocher shades will suit you.
Do not despair if you urgently need to go out, and the makeup base is over - matte shadows will become an excellent replacement for it, without affecting the makeup applied over them.

Pearlescent shadows: Despite the name, such shadows do not have a pronounced shine - they only have a hint of it. Their shine is soft and does not stand out. They can cover the eyelids partially, or brightly, and thickly - depending on the method of application and the final result you want to get.

Using them will help you create a relaxed and modern look. As a rule, such shadows are distributed evenly over the entire surface of the eyelid and do not accumulate in the folds. This makes them ideal for use in young as well as adulthood.

In order to highlight the deep parts of the eyelids and visually enlarge the eyes, it is better to use light shadows. Dark shades will help you create a mysterious and bright look without being too vulgar.

Satin shadows: These semi-matte shadows are, one might say, a kind of hybrid between pearlescent and matte. They shine a little more than matte ones, but they cannot be fully called shiny. These shadows are reminiscent of silk in color and texture. They suit all ages equally well.

Because they are versatile, they do great in both adding depth to certain areas of the eye and brightening the surface. They can also be used to enhance borders, contour and refraction of light.

Satin eyeshadows are great for creating a base for eye makeup. If you need to slightly raise your eyebrows or bring your eye up, this is exactly what you need. You can safely use deeper and brighter shades, as shadows with such a texture do not look defiant or vulgar.

Shadow texture

Shimmering Shadows: We could not ignore the shimmering shadows, which, with their unique brilliance and cold shades, are able to add mystery to the look. Their pearlescent shine perfectly recreates the icy effect. Their only drawback is that they are suitable for younger girls, as they tend to accumulate in the folds and make them more noticeable.

In addition, they must be used very carefully and judiciously, as they can look flashy and overly vulgar if over-applied.

Glossy shadows: Glossy shadows are great at reflecting light and, because of this, often look even brighter than shiny or shimmery shadows. They are great for tightening and brightening an area. The shades of these shadows are very diverse.

The effect resulting from the use of glossy eyeshadows often looks slightly damp. Unlike matte eyeshadows, glossy makeup looks trendy and modern. They are ideal for covering any area around the eyes and look great on eyes of all shapes, except for protruding eyes.

Metallic shadows: That's right, you heard right - metal shadows look exactly like their name, but they consist of much safer materials. They imitate real-life metals - silver, gold, copper, bronze, platinum and many others.

These shadows are ideal for completing a natural make-up, as they can make it unique, mysterious and perfectly set off the skin tone. They also have a sensual effect and, using them as the main ones in your makeup, you will add mystery and sexuality to your look.

Metallic shades such as pink and yellow gold are always trendy, suitable for any season and never go out of style.

How to paint your eyes correctly

Sparkling Shadows: Such shadows by themselves do not reflect light, but they contain special small particles that have this property. At the same time, they reflect light not with the entire surface, but in separate areas.

Sparkling shadows are perfect for courageous girls who want to add some zest, more brightness and mystery to their image. Their plus is that they can be used both in evening make-up and for a daily look. Soft, light shades perfectly reveal the natural beauty of the eyes.

Shiny shadows: If you are a lover of extravagant images and are not afraid of experiments - these shadows are made for you. They reflect light with their entire surface and give the image a showiness and bold brightness. If you want to draw attention to your makeup and even make it a little aggressive, feel free to use shiny eyeshadows.

In this case, such makeup is not suitable for daily outings to the store. But in conjunction with the evening dress, correctly applied shiny shadows will show others who are the real star at the holiday.
