Stylized space. Space style in clothes. Universe and walls

From retrofuturism to modern concepts -

we decided to find out why the space theme has been inspiring designers for half a century.

In fact, interest in space arose long before Gagarin's flight. The impetus for this was the development of the genre of science fiction literature, which was formed in the late nineteenth - early twentieth century. The famous "War of the Worlds" by HG Wells and the "Moon Trilogy" by Jerzy Zulawski were able to make people believe in the possibility of traveling beyond the planet. However, it was in the 60s of the twentieth century that the ideas of futurism were firmly included in everyday life, and with them appear architectural projects of the "future", cars and furniture in the "space" style. Of course, this wave could not bypass the fashion industry.

The legendary Paco Raban is credited with a phrase that, perhaps, in the best way reflects the mood of the 60s: " perfect girl lives on another planet. A futuristic vision of the world, dreams of fantastic mechanisms and technologies, plans for space travel... Today it will seem strange, but in the middle of the twentieth century, the world was more than ever captured by ideas of a utopian future - both on this planet and beyond.

The fashionable space race was launched by French designer André Courrèges in 1964 with a collection called "Space Age", which included intricate designs complemented by avant-garde accessories. However, speaking of futuristic fashion, we first of all remember Paco Rabane: the designer, like no other, was delighted with the theme of space. Incredible sculptural costumes and dresses made of metallized elements have become the fruit of this passion - today Raban's creations are often included in the "space" expositions of the world's leading museums. It was he who developed the well-known image of "Barbarella" from the film of the same name with Jane Fonda: and although the picture itself caused a real flurry of disapproval from the public, the famous leotard dress forever entered not only the history of the cinema, but also the history of fashion.

The name of Pierre Cardin is also strongly associated with the fashion for space futurism. The designer has seriously explored the idea of creating "clothes of the future". He experimented with materials and textures, creating new avant-garde silhouettes and complementing the looks with whimsical accessories. So, Cardin dressed models in shiny vinyl dresses and suits made entirely of metal or plastic, high leather boots and even space helmets. Surprisingly, in the sixties, such images did not seem ridiculous or overly theatrical: on the contrary, Pierre Cardin clothes were very popular in Europe and America and were successfully served in the most fashionable stores.

By the mid-seventies, interest in unexplored planets had faded slightly, but George Lucas's film " star Wars. Episode IV: New Hope woke him up again. The space theme has returned to the catwalks. Thierry Mugler began to experiment with sculptural silhouettes in the sci-fi style: in the design of his dresses, he combined the atmosphere of a space odyssey with the ideas of Parisian Haute Couture. Mugler subsequently developed this theme more than once, rethinking it again and again in a new way. different elements avant-garde outfits - up to the 90s. Today, we perceive the canonical images of a talented fashion researcher not so much as part of the fashion heritage, but rather as works of art.

In the eighties, futuristic themes are a thing of the past: the pragmatic fashion for sports aerobics, acid colors, leggings, leggings and jackets with shoulder pads makes designers forget about the starry sky for a while. However, not for long: space themes gradually begin to return in the mid-nineties. The music industry has a lot to thank for this. Clip of No Scrubs by TLC, which has become a cult tech music video singers Björk All Is Full Of Love and no less famous video by Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson Scream bring us back to the world of futuristic ideas. From the late nineties to the present day, leading fashion houses again and again beat on the podium space theme. From the cyborgs of Givenchy to the futuristic suits of Alexander McQueen, from the avant-garde creations of Iris Van Herpen and Gareth Pugh to constellation-embroidered capes and Valentino dresses, the recurring motif proves that the thought of space travel today worries us as much as on the day of Gagarin's first flight.

With what and how to wear things in space style

So you have purchased stylish thing space style. and now you are at a loss, how to combine it correctly with other things so that it all looks beautiful? See a few fashion images on the picture.

This style originated back in the distant 60s, when outer space was mastered not only by Gagarin, Tereshkova and other famous astronauts, but also by eminent designers of that time. Designers gave free rein to their imagination and developed real curiosities for that time. Their models included Sunglasses round shape, and overalls, reminiscent of an astronaut's spacesuit, and unthinkable headgear. Space style enjoys special success real fashionistas to this day.

Space style clothing

In the 60s, designers offered models from non-natural materials such as synthetics, vinyl, and plastic. Naturally, it was inconvenient, and no one wanted to spend money on plastic clothes. And this is understandable - not practical.

But time runs, the cosmos in outfits is becoming more and more perfect, while maintaining its characteristics. Such clothes are very comfortable, but rather extravagant. On the other hand, clothes with a space pattern can become great addition to the fashionista's wardrobe. Since such models are distinguished by a bright print and a mixture of colors, they must be correctly combined with other things.

How to tastefully dress in space style?

Mostly, today the space print has been preserved in clothes, which looks quite bright, but at the same time harmonious. A dress with this print can be combined with neutral black leggings, and it is quite appropriate to complement it with a thin leather strap and rough boots. If you love more light shoes, sneakers are suitable for thin sole. Space print leggings go great with neutral color blouse and.

In general, it is worth remembering that space-style clothing itself attracts attention, so you should not complement it with flashy accessories. Otherwise, you run the risk of looking like a person who does not know much about fashion, but a Martian or even a black sheep. Everything is appropriate in moderation.

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin flew into space, and on July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. Between these two epochal events, in 1965, Richard Avedon and art director Ruth Ansel took a striking picture in every sense with British model Jean Shrimpton in the image of the first female astronaut for the April issue of Harper's Bazaar. Under the heading "galactic beauty hurries to help "Shrimpton posed in a real NASA astronaut spacesuit. The April issue effectively stood out against the background of what they did at Harper's Bazaar during the time of Diana Vreeland, and made a splash. It became the epitome of the 1960s and the youth revolution: women are gaining strength and conquering space, at least on the pages of the magazine, there was pop art on the cover, and inside there were materials about The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

The 1960s were an era when the image of a woman as a keeper of the hearth became obsolete, student revolutions swept Europe, and the world began to dream of space. As a result, the space-age direction was born in fashion. Despite the fact that the Americans and Russians were engaged in real space exploration, the French came up with the aesthetics of retrofuturism. The pioneers were the designers most receptive to the moods in the culture of their time: André Courrège, Emanuel Ungaro, Pierre Cardin and Paco Raban.

André Courrèges became the ancestor of space-age as a motif in ready-to-wear clothes. With an architectural background and experience in the house of Balenciaga, in 1961 he began work on his own brand Courrèges and then, according to Yves Saint Laurent, changed fashion forever. Courrège's clothes were distinguished by graphic forms, painstaking work on the cut and details. His clothes did not seek to emphasize feminine forms and were contrary to the standards of femininity of the 1950s. On the contrary, they made a woman look like a monumental installation from the future. Despite the avant-garde nature of each collection, Courrèges quickly made its way onto the streets.

Fantasies about the future subsequently appeared in the work of André Courrège's student, Emanuel Ungaro. The same theme was taken up by Pierre Cardin, who by the 1960s had already become a well-deserved designer on the Parisian scene. Unlike Ungaro, Courrège and Paco Raban, who nevertheless focused on the buyer and adapted fantasy to reality, Cardin gave space-age aesthetics more theatricality. His outfits were like abstractions, and the heavy use of plastic and vinyl really felt like space travel clothing.

At some point, the fascination with retrofuturism in pop culture came to naught. A man has been in space and realized that there was no Barbarella, and hopes for the miracles of the industrial revolution and subsided when her reverse was discovered, dark sides. But now, when the year is 2017 and Elon Musk is proposing to send tourists to the moon, and humanity is seriously looking for ways to escape from its native planet, the aesthetics of retrofuturism is becoming popular again due to the current concept on the one hand and the nostalgic flair of the 1960s on the other. Space-age in a postmodern comprehension appears in the new collections of Nicolas Ghesquière in Louis Vuitton, in the latest collection of Chanel, and Paco Raban's business continues to live under the leadership of Julien Dossen.

Constellations and galaxies, comets and brands of telescopes, astronauts and spaceships - if all this excites and interests a child, then you need to help him reach the stars with his hand. A space-style nursery is one of the most available ways to do this.

Anything can be the basis of interior design:

  • fantasy novels;
  • favorite films on a space theme;
  • scientific discoveries;
  • comics or illustrations.

It is not necessary in the baby's room to accurately recreate the interior of the Soyuz spacecraft or Star Wars fighter jets.

It is enough to make a stylized ceiling and floor, pick up correct design walls, choose the right furniture, add some accessories and textiles - and the room will turn into an astrologer's house, space transport or even an alien habitat.

An ordinary white ceiling in a starry room is boring and wrong.

The ceiling sets the direction of the style, so you can decorate it in the following ways:

  • Stretch. Such a ceiling can demonstrate galactic spirals, surfaces of other planets, become part of the night starry sky - the choice of pattern on the surface of the stretch ceiling is up to the owners of the room. If fiber optic strands and a projector are mounted behind the stretch fabric, then in the evening the ceiling will become a real sky, on which stars shimmer and galaxies replace each other.
  • Plasterboard structures. With their help, the most complex design solutions are implemented, including semicircular vaults of the ship's interior. A multi-level false ceiling with built-in spotlights and fluorescent lighting fits perfectly into the space theme.

  • The metal beams on the ceiling look original, supporting the associative array associated with interior view interplanetary ship.
  • Stickers and stickers. Ready-made luminous star stickers are attached to the ceiling so that constellations are obtained. In the evening, the pictures will glow, creating a special atmosphere in the room.

  • Drawings. Made with luminescent paints or voluminous textured materials, such images will become an exclusive decoration of the room, fully meeting the needs of the little owner.

Flooring

A cosmos-style children's room should have an appropriate floor covering that will support general style practical decoration of the spacecraft.

As a floor covering in children's rooms are used:

  • floorboards;
  • parquet;

  • laminate;
  • multilayer linoleum.

To match space design, the floor can be made either dark (dark brown, black, gray), or sandy white with a silvery sheen.

Important! When zoning the room, a comfortable soft carpet with a low pile or velor covering is placed on the floor in the playing part of the room.

The carpet can be either bright, with the image of stars, planets, or plain steel color.

Nuance: the puzzle carpet looks interesting, which the child can drag from place to place during the game.

The walls continue the space theme, they can be decorated in different ways, using various techniques and materials:

  1. Cover with wallpaper. There are many wallpapers for sale with images of ships or constellations, such wallpapers are easily combined with plain ones.

It is convenient to use wallpaper for painting. This will hide the unevenness of the wall surface, in addition, the wallpaper can be repainted up to 5-7 times. Walls of blue, silver, steel, white colors look organically in the space room.

An interesting solution - a combination of wallpaper. For example, the wall near the bed is painted in dark blue color and decorated with drawings, and the wall near the desktop is made light. Original look fluorescent wallpaper that glows in dark time days, replacing the night light.

  1. Liquid wallpaper and decorative plaster. Using these materials, it is easy to create interesting textured surfaces that mimic the unusual topography of alien planets. It is easy to place drawings, stickers on top or use stencils to apply an image.
  2. Plasterboard structures. Allow to recreate in the nursery:
  • a real cabin of a star rocket with a control panel;

  • decorate one of the walls with a porthole overlooking the surface of a mysterious planet;
  • turn the wall into a control panel for an interstellar ship with levers and instruments.

The impression will be enhanced if the complex plasterboard structure is illuminated with hidden spotlights or LED lamps.

This design allows you to visually expand the boundaries of the room, giving it depth and volume.

  1. Wallpaper. The simplest and a win-win. Space plots with planets, aliens, rockets, star clusters will decorate the room, but it is necessary to observe the proportionality of the size of the picture and the dimensions of the nursery.

Color spectrum

A cosmos-style nursery is decorated with colors that help create a feeling of a starry boundless space:

  • all shades from blue to dark blue;
  • the black;

  • purple;
  • green, yellow, red are perfect as accents.

Lighting

It is the right lighting that helps to successfully complete the image of a space children's room. There should be a lot of light - both bright, pointy, and diffused, soft. Each zone of the room (game, bedroom, study) must have its own lamps.

When choosing lamps or chandeliers, you should choose the appropriate style:

  • complex geometric shapes;
  • material - chrome-plated metal, shiny and simple transparent glass;

  • functional - with the ability to change the level of illumination or the color of the lamp.

Important! LED lamps fit perfectly into outer space different colors and lava lamps.

Furniture

A space-style children's room is similar to a minimalist room - the room needs a small amount of practical and comfortable furniture.

The style of all furniture is exceptionally modern:

  • a lot of glass;
  • a lot of steel chrome fittings;

  • interesting futurological forms;
  • the color is light, steel-gray or bright, juicy.

The desktop can be equipped with LED lighting, as well as the shelves of the rack. Such a table will become a captain's cabin for a child.

In such a room, a wardrobe would be appropriate, on the doors of which a spacesuit or star clusters are depicted. Outer room fit modular systems storage that can be used as seating at the same time.

A bed in the form of a rocket or on the second floor, where you have to climb a ladder, unusual shape comfortable hanging ball chairs or bean bags on the floor - all this creates a unique atmosphere of star travel and the conquest of new planets.

Decoration and accessories

In a space-style children's room, you can not do without unusual accessories and decor items that will maintain harmony in the interior:

  • bedspreads and curtains - to match the wall coverings, with a repeating pattern;
  • pillows - in the form of stars;
  • metallized horizontal blinds on windows;
  • balls imitating planets or suns can hang from the ceiling, such balls also serve as lamps;

  • an excellent decoration on the wall - a wavy row of multi-colored nightlights;
  • for storing toys, mock-ups made of chipboard, cardboard or plywood are used spaceships, moon rovers or robots;

  • porthole mirror;
  • near the table - a black board for records with magnetic reminders;

  • telescopes, star charts.

Perhaps when he grows up, the kid will not become an astronaut, but the memory that he had a real space room as a child will remain forever.

And that will make him happy.
