Heart of threads and nails. Video: thread graphics workshops. What do you need for string art

For a child, there is nothing more exciting than creating something with your own hands under the guidance of an adult. Creating a panel of threads and nails is not only an exciting activity, But good way development creativity in children. Everything you need for such work can be found in every home, and with a little training and acquiring basic skills, you can come up with something new and give master classes to everyone.

Creating pictures from threads is fun and exciting. And for this you don’t need anything super complicated, just a little bit of patience, a little imagination and simple tools.

String art is a new and modern trend in the design world: "touch" the this style almost everyone can

There are several types of thread printing:

  1. Application. Using leftover knitting woolen threads, cutting threads for embroidery, crocheted chains air columns(pigtails) or finely cut threads.
  2. Embroidery. Embroidered drawings or embroidery using the "thread" technique.
  3. string art(a panel of threads and nails) using the "thread" technique.

Work made in any of these techniques can serve as an exclusive interior detail or a unique gift.

Application on cardboard: a panel of threads "Cats"

All that is needed for such work is thick cardboard, felt-tip pens, glue and all kinds of leftover threads. The contour of the cat is transferred to the base, and then glued with a dark thread.

Everything inside this contour is well smeared with glue, in order to then stick the chopped remnants of the threads. The main thing is not to go beyond the contours of the picture.

Drawing with threads: a panel of threads and glue

In this case, the threads are cut especially finely, no more than a millimeter long. The finer the thread is cut, the better the finished work will turn out. The process of creating such panels takes a lot of time and requires a lot of patience. How to make this process interesting for the child? Divide the work, let the kid fix the trimmings on the panel in accordance with his idea, and the adult will have to prepare the material and cut it. Finished works in this technique are very difficult to distinguish from real paintings, so some consider it not an application, but drawing with threads.

It is not difficult to create such pictures, and the child's pleasure from a bright and fluffy picture compensates for all the efforts of adults. Besides, finished work, decorated in a passe-partout or frames, will serve as an excellent decoration for a nursery.

string art

Literally " string art"- the threads of art. Made with the help of threads and nails, the panel has a long and interesting story. According to one version, the English researcher M.E. Buhl became its founder and the purpose of such panels is to help children develop spatial perception and the study of geometry. Other researchers insist that string art existed as early as the 17th century as a way to create lace products.

Whoever was the discoverer, the essence is the same - the creation of various drawings, patterns or inscriptions. The technique involves the use of only straight lines, but due to interlacing and repeated overlay, the picture acquires volume. Any threads for such weaving are used: sewing, floss, wool, silk, synthetics.

What you need for work:

  • The piece is very thick cardboard, cork board (a cork pad for a computer mouse is suitable), polystyrene foam;
  • Small cloves or pins with large heads;
  • Threads, colored or plain;
  • Scissors and hammer;
  • Auxiliary tools (felt-tip pens, pencil, beads).

How to choose a picture for a panel

For the first works, it is better to choose large single objects, placing them on the basis of the A4 format. For the first job, you do not need to choose something difficult. Techniques are easier to learn simple circuits. For beginners, something very simple, a circle or a polygon, will be the most acceptable. After such a workout, you can do something more complex, such as a heart or a Christmas tree.

Using thread to work various colors even in simple forms, you can achieve the effect of volume. Panels with trees, flowers or plants look exceptionally decorative.

In this case, a tree trunk with skeletal branches is arbitrarily marked and the location of small branches is outlined and threads are selected various shades. Work always starts from the bottom up.

Such a string art may well become a decorative element in the setting, and the periodic replacement of details on a panel: fabric birds, flowers or fruits, New Year's decorations, will allow the work to match the season.

DIY panel of threads and nails, where to start

Creating a panel is a multi-stage process and the first thing to do is to prepare the basis of the work. String art can be done on cardboard, but thicker material is most commonly used. If a background is needed for the drawing, paint, varnish or wood stain is used. After the background has dried out, the outline of the pattern is applied to the base and nails are already driven into them, as a basis for stretching.

The main thing at this stage is to achieve the same distance between the studs and hammer them to the same depth. Now you can pull the threads, observing the selected interval.

It is worth adhering to a certain sequence only when complex geometry is reproduced; in any other case, chaos in interweaving is only welcome. The more layers of threads overlap each other, the more pronounced the 3D effect will be.

Panel of threads for knitting: an easy way to make a gift with your own hands

For the little ones, you can offer an easy way to make a gift or arrange a postcard. In this case, work with nails and a hammer is not needed. All that is needed is to carefully wrap the rest of the knitting yarn of any contour or pattern. It can be the sun, an asterisk, a bell, a Christmas tree. More difficult may be the design of the contour, cut out of thick cardboard window. A child of 7-8 years old can cope with such work, and decorated with bells, snowflakes and stars, such a panel may well become great gift At Christmas.

Thread drawing, string art, string art. Works in this technique can be called whatever you like.

And it's not just a subject. decorative arts, this is a great way to teach a child new things and develop a craving for creativity in him:

  1. Working with threads develops abstract thinking and gives an idea of geometric shapes;
  2. Being engaged in application or pulling threads, the child develops fine motor skills, and this in turn has a positive effect on the development of speech;
  3. All materials are different in texture, color and texture, which means they develop sensory perception;
  4. By doing string art, children gain an understanding of modeling and mirror placement.

A unique panel made of nails and threads, made by hand, will be a worthy decoration of any interior. Nails and threads ... It would seem that these two elements are absolutely incompatible. Nails symbolize construction, which is considered a rough activity inherent in men. Threads are more feminine. However, the combination of these materials allows you to create real masterpieces for apartment design. What can be done with ordinary nails, multi-colored threads and using as a base a saw cut of a tree or an ordinary smooth plank?

Even a child can create a panel of threads and nails with his own hands, this is a great advantage of technology. You do not need to have special artistic skills, just print a sketch or draw it by hand.

When the picture is ready, you should take care of the base, the role of which can be played by an ordinary cut of a wide tree trunk. If such material is not at hand, an ordinary board is quite suitable, which must first be cleaned well sandpaper and varnish. Acrylic paint is sometimes used instead of varnish, and fabric can also be stretched over the base.

Tools needed for work:

  • Small nails, the number of which directly depends on the size and complexity of the picture.
  • Threads different structure and colors.
  • Fabric, if needed for the background.
  • Long-nose pliers for holding nails so as not to beat off fingers. Nail scissors.

The sketch is placed on the canvas so that the outline of the drawing does not protrude beyond its borders. The first nail is driven into any point of the line, but this is not done to the end, but only by 1/3 of the part. In order for the cloves to enter evenly, and the fingers to remain intact, it is necessary to use long-nose pliers.

An exclusive do-it-yourself panel made of threads and nails will become a wonderful gift, or maybe - the pride of any master. Such unusual item can be used for photo shoots or just make a bright part of the interior. It would seem that incompatible elements - threads and nails - still go well together in such a type of needlework as String Art.

Nails serve as a symbol of repair, construction, which seems to be a rough work characteristic of men. Threads, in turn, symbolize women's labor. Despite this, the association of such different materials does not interfere with the creation of interesting decorative elements.

The history of the panel of nails and threads

The name of String Art craftsmanship, translated from English into Russian, sounds like “the art of strings”. There are many interpretations: the art of thread pulling, thread graphics, thread design.

The British became the founders of such non-standard art. The meaning of the technique is that nails are figuratively driven into the plank, and threads of any colors are stretched on them, according to the chosen image. The nails must be driven in so that eventually the threads create the completed pattern.

The first mention of the technique of pulling threads appeared in the seventeenth century in England. But at that time, the art of pulling threads on nails driven into boards had a slightly different purpose: in this way, sketches for weaving lace were formed. And already at the end of the nineteenth century, thread graphics became an art and a subject of interior decoration. According to one version, the founder of this trend was the mathematics teacher Marie Everest Bull, who, with the help of threads and nails, clearly explained to students the principles of the structure of geometric shapes.

Basic materials for panels

To master the technique, you will need a substrate, nails and threads. It is not difficult to make a panel of threads and nails with your own hands, the main thing is a little patience and accuracy.

The substrate is a solid canvas into which nails will be driven. The materials can be anything, but plywood, cork, fiberboard, polystyrene are mainly used. The advantage in the property of these materials is that their surface is smooth, they can be coated with paint, varnish, and also tinted.

If a foam backing is a priority, then instead of nails, invisible needles or pins with a small eye should be used. Styrofoam is well exposed to staining with acrylic paints. Unlike wooden materials, it does not need to be primed before painting.

The number of nails should be huge if it is planned to do a lot of work and if the size of the picture, its detail should be big size. For example, for a small picture, the number of nails should be about twenty pieces. A panel of threads and nails with your own hands can be made more accurately if you place the latter close to each other. By type, nails can be divided into:

  • decorative;
  • furniture;
  • carpentry.

It is best to use these species, because they are small in size and have small hats, so they will not stand out much.

For a do-it-yourself panel of threads and nails, knitting threads are best suited in terms of density. But besides this, you can use:

  • floss;
  • thin iris;
  • twisted threads.

And it is better to refuse silk threads. They will not sit in one place, do not stretch and slide off the studs.

Additional tools for creating a do-it-yourself panel

In addition to the plank, nails and threads, you will need:

  • scissors;
  • pliers (in case the nail accidentally fell into place);
  • long-nose pliers (so that the nails enter the substrate evenly);
  • sketch of the image on a piece of paper;
  • double sided tape;

Weaving methods

How to make a panel of threads and nails? The main ways of weaving panels are as follows:

  1. Weaving the pattern itself: the threads are directly inside the image.
  2. Weaving inside out: the threads are located on the outside of the pattern, it itself remains empty.

Weaving styles

Generally, two styles of weaving are used:

  1. Ray. It is characterized by the threads being guided by the fan method, i.e. from one point to different directions by putting them on top of each other.
  2. Solid. It provides for weaving a pattern by chaotically winding a thread around a sketch.

Silhouette drawing with filled background

When creating such a panel in without fail the contour of the frame is made by driving decorative nails into it. The contour of the drawing itself is also affected. The thread is tied in a small inconspicuous knot to the nails that follow the edge, and is pulled over those that complete the outline of the pattern.

A panel of threads and nails can be created without using a template. For this, bright threads and a dark substrate are taken. wooden or foam core painted with acrylic paints suitable color. Carnations are driven in exclusively along the contour of the base. The threads are pulled in the opposite direction, braided around the nails, come back and cling to the nail located nearby.

Creating a panel of threads and nails is not difficult at all, but there are some irreplaceable tips for getting a good result:

  1. Depending on the choice of pattern, it will be better to tint or paint the surface of the substrate. For this, a variety of beads, “broken glass”, beads, etc. are also used.
  2. The substrate is painted mainly with acrylic paints, because. They have excellent grip on any surface.
  3. The thickness of the threads should be medium. If you plan to decorate, for example, a wall, then it is better to take larger threads.
  4. Figures are better to choose simple, without small details.
  5. To create a sketch, it is better to choose thin paper.
  6. You can not pull the thread too tight, because the future pattern may be distorted, as well as the substrate material.
  7. The picture will look more voluminous if on one part of it the stretched threads adjoin the plank, and on the other - to the caps of carnations.

How to make a panel of nails and threads

Any business is better to start with something simple. Therefore, the "Heart" panel made of threads and nails will be an excellent example, especially since such a pattern can decorate any interior.

You will need:

  1. Tablet.
  2. Paper, pencil.
  3. Double sided tape.
  4. 70 pieces of furniture carnations.
  5. Hammer.
  6. Red floss threads.
  7. Scissors.
  8. Pliers.

The instruction is the following.

To begin with, you need to draw the heart itself on a piece of paper, then stick the sketch to the board with double-sided tape. According to the outline of the pattern, drive nails at the same distance from each other. This is mandatory, otherwise the panel will be uneven. The distance between the nails should not be too large. After the nails are driven in, the template can be removed.

The thread must be tied on the last carnation. Absolutely in a chaotic manner, do not wrap the threads tightly around opposite studs, making two turns around each. The thread may run out, and then an additional thread should be tied to its end, making a very small knot. You need to put a thread on each carnation in 3-4 layers.

When weaving is finished, the edge of the thread should be tied tightly to the nail. Be sure to hide under the resulting canvas so that it does not stick out. The panel of threads and nails (photo above) is ready.

Panel example: "Tree"

The tree is a symbol of life, growth and strength. This panel will be great. original gift and will be able to decorate any interior.

Materials:

  1. You can take not even a plank, but a wooden cut of the desired diameter with a small thickness.
  2. The color of the thread should be the opposite color of the wood surface.
  3. Decorative nails.
  4. Hammer.
  5. Template drawing.
  6. Stationery tape.
  7. Pliers, if you need to change the location of the nail.

A pre-prepared drawing-template, on which a sketch is drawn, is glued to a wooden saw cut with adhesive tape. At a small distance from each other, drive in decorative nails so that the hats are on the same level. Nails should be located both along the contour of the intended pattern and along the circumference of the cut. The selected colored threads must be pulled in an absolutely chaotic manner, but without affecting the middle of the tree itself. Threads should be located on the outer space. For greater convenience, it is better to place them below the head of the nail so that it is possible to wrap the thread again. A panel of threads and nails (you can draw the templates yourself) is ready.

Panel idea: "Giraffe"

A great idea for a child's room would be a panel in the shape of a giraffe's head. For this you will need:

  1. Square foam pad.
  2. Black acrylic paint.
  3. Decorative invisible needles or thin nails.
  4. Yellow and brown threads.
  5. Drawing of a giraffe's head on paper.
  6. Scotch.
  7. Hammer.

The principle of building a panel is as follows.

A layer of black paint is applied to the foam backing. You need to wait until it dries completely, and then apply another layer so that it does not shine through White color foam. Decorative nails or invisibility are attached to the giraffe head pattern template, while capturing the contours of the eyes, mouth and spots. Brown threads are braided around the carnations inside the spots and eyes of the animal, and yellow threads are the rest of its surface.

African sunset with elephants

Materials:

  1. Rectangular foam pad.
  2. Black acrylic paint.
  3. Nails.
  4. Threads of red, orange and yellow colors.
  5. Drawing depicting elephants and a tree.

2-3 layers of acrylic paint are applied to the surface of a rectangular foam substrate until it dries completely. According to the drawing template, as well as along the contour, nails or pins are stuck into the foam. The principle of operation is the same as in the previous examples, only other parts are captured by threads. The very top of the sky remains black. Next comes red, followed by orange, and then yellow stretched threads, thus creating the image of a sunset. The threads are stretched from the edges of the design to the nails, which create the shape of the animals, and vice versa. The figures of elephants with a tree should remain empty.

Words and phrases

With the help of words and phrases, you can congratulate on the holiday, designate something, in the nursery, the name of the child, made in the String Art technique, will look great. Many ideas for a panel of threads and nails are based on the spelling of words.

For this, the same materials are used, but the main canvas will look good if its surface is covered with light acrylic paint. In this case, you can drive nails under the ruler, and not use a stencil or template. First, the outline of the letters themselves is drawn with threads. Further, in the same chaotic order, they are pulled. You can use bright multi-colored threads or make each letter of its own color. There are plenty of options. If the panel will decorate the wall, then special hooks are driven in from its reverse side. You can find them at any art or craft store.

Finally

The most valuable things are things created by oneself. Such creative process, like thread graphics, promotes relaxation, relaxation. This art can help relieve stress, and a panel as a gift will save you from eternal questions about what to give. This way of creativity develops creative thinking and brings up accuracy and attentiveness in a person. Children can be involved in the creation of beautiful panels; such paintings are good to use in the interior of a house and apartment, for photo shoots. Moreover, to create a picture of nails and threads, you will need almost any base, nails, hammer, threads and pliers, and almost every home has these materials.

Today, there is almost nothing to surprise. Even such a work as a picture of nails and threads. Who would have thought that from such simple and seemingly incompatible materials you can create real masterpieces that will decorate any interior. We invite you to learn more about the technique of creating paintings, about what other tools you may need and about options design.

More about paintings

A panel of threads is a substrate made of almost any material, on which carnations are hammered in a certain order, and the yarn forms a pattern. That is, the nails act as a peg for which the thread clings.

This kind of art requires care. But the result usually exceeds all expectations. Pictures can be created both independently and involve children in this activity. Exist different schemes work, and almost any idea can be embodied in the form

Necessary tools and materials

First you need a substrate for the picture. It can be foam sheet, wooden plank, fiberboard, plywood, cork board and other similar material. Cardboard and similar thick paper are not used in this technique.

Next, you will have to stock up on carnations. Their number depends on the complexity of your work. But on average, one picture needs at least twenty pieces. It is best to choose carpentry, furniture or decorative nails small diameter. They small size and neat hats.

The third component of the picture is yarn. Best to choose Knitting thread. They are dense, there is a wide variety of colors. But twisted and floss threads are also suitable. It is better not to take silk yarn, as it is difficult to work with it.

You will also need scissors, a hammer, pliers (if you drive the stud in the wrong place, it will be easier for you to pull it out), a drawing on paper, buttons, wood paint (if you want to change the color of the substrate).

If you plan that the finished picture of nails and threads will hang on the wall, then stock up on a special loop.

Principle of operation

The order of creating a panel is quite simple: you choose or invent the picture you want to create, print it or draw on a piece of paper, cut out the image along the contour, prepare the substrate (paint, sand or do nothing at all), and then start creating.

Lay out on a substrate paper picture. To keep it from moving, attach it with buttons.

Then carefully drive in the decorative nails by trying to place them at the same distance. Some craftsmen first mark the dots with a pencil, and then drive in the carnations.

Then remove the picture from the backing and place it in front of you. Take a thread and tie one end to a nail.

Using the picture diagram, wind the knitting threads around the nails in any order to form intersecting lines. When the thread ends, do not forget to fasten its end.

Where can these pictures be used?

The created panels will ideally fit into any interior and will bring a touch of modernity. Such paintings look good on walls, chests of drawers, shelving and so on. But if you have children or are they frequent guests in your home, then the placement must be chosen especially carefully. Although you use small or decorative carnations in your work, they can still be dangerous for the baby. In this case ideal option will hang a picture of nails and thread higher on the wall or put on the top shelf of the rack.

Depending on the selected image, the panel can be placed in the living room (any theme), kitchen (fruits, vegetables), bathroom (shells, anchors, crabs, and so on), corridor and other rooms.

Create a silhouette drawing

The central composition is not always distinguished by threads. Sometimes with their help a background is created that frames the empty space. Such panels are called silhouette.

Master class on creating a silhouette from threads and nails:

  1. Prepare everything necessary tools and materials (Illustration 1).
  2. On a sheet of paper, draw the outline of a tree (Figure 2).
  3. Attach the pattern to the substrate and drive in the carnations along the outline of the tree (Figure 3).
  4. Then drive in the carnations around the entire outline of the substrate to form a frame (Illustration 4).
  5. Tie a loop at the end of the thread and start creating a pattern (Figure 5).
  6. Pull the thread from the extreme nails to those that form the silhouette of a tree (Figure 6).
  7. When most of the thread is taut, remove the patterned paper with tweezers (Figure 7).
  8. Pull the entire thread, and fasten the end of it.

The picture is ready!

Making an Easter Bunny

The order of work on creating a picture will be as follows.

Draw or print a silhouette of a bunny and an Easter egg basket.

Prepare a board and place pictures on it.

Drive carnations along the contour of the figures at the same distance from each other.

Highlight the contour of the inner part of the ear with carnations. In the picture it will be done in a different color.

Also highlight the bow on the basket, its inside and Easter eggs with nails.

When all the studs have been driven in, select the thread for the inside of the eyelet and pull it tight.

Then create others small items A: bow, eggs and so on.

Now you can start filling in the main part of the picture. Draw a rabbit with a white thread, and the basket itself with a blue thread.

A picture of nails and threads with your own hands is ready!

Making patterns

Can do amazing pictures from nails and thread. The schemes of work differ in that the pattern is created due to the formation of curls of the thread.

The sequence of execution of such a panel:

  1. Take a square board.
  2. Step back from each edge a couple of centimeters and drive in the carnations at the same distance from each other so that they form a frame (illustration 1).
  3. Take the thread and fasten one end to the corner stud (Figure 2).
  4. Then pull the thread to the opposite corner to form a diagonal line. Bring the yarn back and hook onto the adjacent stud, and then draw another diagonal line. Pull the thread in this way, each time catching it on adjacent studs. Yarn should go clockwise. Over time, you will see that a pattern forms in the center (Figure 3).
  5. Fill in this way the entire space of the canvas and secure the end of the thread (Figure 4).

The original panel is ready!

In this way, you can create amazing works and not use a paper drawing.

These paintings will always be performed according to the same scheme:

  • substrate preparation;
  • driving carnations in the form of a frame;
  • pulling the thread from one nail to the opposite.

For example, you can take yarn different color and stretch it with a herringbone pattern (picture above).

and nails: a master class on creating a word

In this technique, you can make not only silhouettes, patterns and illustrations, but also words.

The order of work is the following.

Glue several sheets of paper together and write any word, letter or sentence in three-dimensional letters. Remember that the letters must be thicker so that the final picture looks beautiful. Cut out the word (picture 1).

Prepare the substrate (picture 2).

Place the word on the substrate (picture 3).

Drive carnations around the outline of the letter. They should be located close to each other and at the same distance (picture 4).

Remove paper letters (picture 5).

As a result, you should get something like in picture 6.

Prepare threads of such colors so that the shade of one passes into another, like a rainbow (picture 7).

Start pulling the thread from the very top of the first letter (picture 8).

Then take another shade and continue to work with it. So fill the letter with threads of different colors (picture 9).

Gradually fill in all the letters. Remember to choose colors carefully. The selected shades should smoothly flow into one another (pictures 10 and 11).

Fill in all the letters. The picture of nails and threads is ready!

Combined panel

You can combine any drawing and make a caption to it. All elements are made of threads and nails.

Descriptions of the panel creation process:

  1. Paper cut balloon and place it on the prepared plywood.
  2. Drive cloves along the contour of the ball.
  3. Remove the paper and draw a rope down from the ball with a pencil.
  4. Drive cloves along the contour of the rope.
  5. At the bottom, write a phrase or word with a pencil and also drive in carnations.
  6. The rope and letters will consist of one row of carnations.
  7. Stretch the thread in a chaotic manner so that it forms a ball. The yarn should cover the entire outlined space.
  8. Take a thread of a different color and pull it over the studs that form a string. The yarn should go between the nails in a zigzag pattern, going up and down several times.
  9. In the same way, pull the thread over the studs that form the sentence.

A panel of threads and nails with your own hands is ready!

If you chose sheet foam as the substrate, then its surface must be covered with a layer of acrylic paint.

To make the work neat and beautiful, try to pull the thread as best as possible.

Since the cloves are small, it is more convenient to use a small mallet.

Pictures look very beautiful with the use of additional decorative elements. For example, a silhouette can be made from threads and nails, and small details can be made from rhinestones or droplets (see the picture above).

Original paintings will be obtained if the finished image (for example, women) is pasted onto the substrate and any part of it is made voluminous due to threads stretched over carnations (skirt).

Creating a unique atmosphere at home is not an easy task. Although there are many finishing materials, furniture, styles today, they are not all unique. And I want something of my own, personal, personal, something that no one else has. There is, of course, a way out. Even two. The first is to order some kind of product-work from the master. The second is to do it yourself. And no one has figured it out yet the best decoration interior than paintings, but not everyone knows how to draw. And it is not necessary. You can make paintings from unusual materials. Such works will definitely be unique and unrepeatable.

From felt and on felt

Infrequently, we can see paintings and panels made of felt. He is generally last years became a curiosity, as well as products from it. We perceive hats and some other small things normally, but felt paintings are definitely rare. So, when describing paintings from unusual materials, let's start with felt. For starters, you can make a landscape, flowers. They are easier to implement. With experience, you can make more and more interesting panels.

For felting, special wool is used. When creating paintings, it is laid out in layers and the base (non-woven fabric), forming the desired pattern. When creating paintings from wool, the process takes place in several stages. First, the background, relief is laid out, then smaller and smaller details.

Making the background

To begin with, we take those shades of wool that create the background. We spread them on interlining, trying not to leave voids. It is advisable to make two thin layers. The resulting background is transferred to a foam rubber substrate (5 cm thick or more). Then we take a special needle (for felting). Holding it vertically, we often pierce the laid wool. This is how we ensure that it connects with the base. If you look at reverse side interlining, threads that have come out should be visible.

Then the workpiece is placed on polyethylene (it is larger in size than the picture itself), the wool is wetted soapy water(for 1 liter hot water one tablespoon of grated baby soap) and, in fact, the felting process itself begins. To begin with, wet wool is kneaded with hands (we press down, gradually increasing the pressure). Wet woolen threads interlock with each other with a pile, forming a single surface - this is a process wet felting. The result is felt. Just for the pictures we don't have to woo high density. We stop when the base is sufficiently dense. Wet excess moisture with a terry towel.

Adding details

Now you need to add the details of the picture to the background: trees, flowers, stones, etc. With dry hands (wool sticks to wet ones), we lay out the trunks of trees, bushes, stones. On new details we pass well with a needle, moisten, crush with our hands. Then they use more rigid means - a wooden rolling pin. The wet picture is carefully passed back and forth with a wooden rolling pin.

Last we lay out voluminous small details: flowers, clouds, stones, thin branches, stems, leaves ... To make them voluminous, we use up to eight layers of wool, we make petals from balls, stems from twisted bundles. The procedure is the same: laid, folded (poked with a needle), wetted, piled, removed the remaining liquid. If the part is not large enough, you can repeat the process.

Pictures / panels from threads

Perhaps the most common way to create pictures from colored threads is embroidery. But this is a very painstaking and lengthy process, although the craftswomen enjoy it. But there are also faster ways. Much faster. These are glued pictures from threads and stretched (winding). So it cannot be said that these paintings are made of unusual materials. But the techniques are definitely unusual.

gluing

We take any threads, it is possible for knitting. Pictures are made on a rigid basis: on cardboard, plastic, glass. The technology is simple. First, the contour of the drawing is applied to the base. On cardboard and opaque plastic, it is drawn, on glass and transparent plastic, you can not draw, but put the drawing down. Then the production begins:

This is all. When everything is filled, we leave the finished panel of threads to dry for several days. After the glue dries, it can be coated clear varnish(take on water based- and dries quickly, and does not smell).

Cartoon characters, drawn characters, pictures and sketches are well made from threads. Everything is stylized and very individual. An exact, photographic match will not work, since this technique is not intended for this. But it is simple, understandable, requires very little time. This is the perfect craft activity for kids to do.

From thread and nails

Interesting pictures are obtained from threads and nails. This technique has its own name - "string art" (string art). From English word string - string (thread).

By appearance it is difficult to confuse them with something, since the technique is original, the images are graphically clear. Depending on the object, they can be suitable for a children's room decorated in a fantasy style or for a living room in a modern pop art, art deco style. You can find options even for minimalism ... The pluses include the fact that making a picture from threads and nails (pins) takes a little time. The smallest can be done within an hour. The technique is simple, so you can involve children.

Pictures from unusual materials: nails and threads…

What materials are needed

Threads can be taken any. The most commonly used thread for knitting. Depending on the invoice, a different result is obtained. Smoother ones give sharper lines, "shaggy" ones create a denser background. They are pulled on small carnations or pins. Carnations of any color and thickness. The main thing is that the hats are neat, but not small (not finishing nails). Length - depends on the scale of the picture. For small ones, a centimeter and a half is enough, for larger ones, three-centimeter ones are also possible.

Pins are suitable if the pattern is with a fantasy touch: butterflies, dragonflies, flowers ... In this case, we find pins with beads. They also serve as decoration at the same time.

The base is used any in which carnations can be hammered. It is most convenient to use high density foam. It is lightweight, and cloves and pins can easily enter it. Wood is also suitable (can be laminated, can be sanded).

Basic manufacturing technique

The creation process itself is simple. Choose a drawing. To begin with, it is better to choose something simple, with not a very large number of elements. Let's take a stylized flower as an example.

Flower, leaf ... It's easy to make

A contour is applied to the selected base. If you know how, you can draw by hand, if you are not confident in your abilities - cut out the stencil, apply it. Further, we nail carnations along the contours in increments of about 1 cm. In places of sharp bends, it is possible more often.

After all the cloves are stuffed, we take the threads, make a loop at the end, and fasten it to one of the nails. The first nail is chosen absolutely arbitrarily. Having fixed the thread, in a chaotic manner, we begin to entangle the carnations. Filling can be made more or less dense. In any case, it is desirable that it be clear that these are separate threads. This is the charm of this work. When the entire volume is filled, we fix the threads on one of the nails. That, in fact, is all. You can only score a little cloves, if necessary.

Options and variations

Now a little about the nuances. In the example above, only the shape bounded by the studs is filled. But it can also be the other way around. What is filled with threads is outside the limits outlined by the nails. Pictures are also interesting.

In both the first and second cases, the difference in color between the background and the threads should be significant. This gives clarity to the image. In more difficult options the threads are not stretched randomly, but creating a certain binding. This is far from easy, experience comes with years of practice. These pictures look amazing.

Another way to create unusual paintings from threads and carnations is to draw only some elements of the picture in this way. Here it is important to divide the image into fragments, the place of each carnation is calculated, since they are also elements of the same picture.

This technique is a way to draw a landscape using nails and thread. You need a special vision that allows you to break the picture into lines, which in general will create a whole image.

Panel of buttons, beads, beads

That's really unusual material to create pictures - buttons. Different sizes, shapes, textures, colors. They all go to work. They can be used as they are, they can be painted, decorated with sparkles, sequins, etc. It all depends on the idea and desire of the author. The basis for pictures of buttons - any. Cardboard, wood, foam, fiberboard, chipboard, MDF, plastic sheeting, glass. Depends on the idea and desired effect. Buttons are glued to the base. Glue - universal, which, when dried, remains transparent.

Technique - start simple

Sometimes buttons are used only as part of the picture. Since they are voluminous, flowers, foliage, and other small and medium-sized convex details are made from them. The background, large fragments are performed in any other technique, but in most cases it is a drawing or appliqué. Such pictures are easy to make on your own or with the participation of children.

Basic technique

If desired, any image, silhouette or even a picture can be made from buttons. Start with the most simple drawings. There seems to be nothing complicated in the process, but a lot of work takes a lot of time. To begin with, it is better to see the result in a few hours. Select simple form: heart, apple, moon, sun, large flower simple form, the image of an animal, a bird. Just remember that portrait likeness is not for this technique. You should get a recognizable shape.

The manufacturing process is simple. First of all, apply the contour to the base. It turns out - draw by hand. No - cut out of paper. The drawing can be printed. Cut out the drawing along the contour, attach it to the base, circle it with a pencil. If you need multiple colors, draw borders that separate them (colors).

A bright fish will decorate the nursery ... and not only

Next, fill in the contour with the available buttons. For some drawings, a clear smooth edge. With the help of buttons, even the most small size not achieve. In this case, you can use beads, beads. The voids inside can also be closed with beads or beads. All this looks very organic.

With experience, it will be possible to take on more serious canvases. But your patience and perseverance must be simply enormous. Here the shade and size of each button is already important.

Panels and paintings made of fabric and lace

Fabrics and lace are pretty too non-standard material for the manufacture of panels and paintings. This is not about appliqué or patchwork techniques - they are difficult to perform and require specific skills. The thing is that now there are such fabrics, the pattern or texture of which can be an adornment of a modern interior. Lace has also ceased to be the lot of the rich. And if you have old napkins or you know how to knit them yourself, you can make very interesting paintings, panels. The main thing is the idea and the ability to see the future panel in an ordinary piece of fabric.

Panel of fabrics and textiles

The first idea is to find two-tone fabrics. The main condition is that the colors must be the same, the drawings must be different. The easiest way to find black and white options. All other shades - running around the shops are tormented. Although, the Internet can come to the rescue. Selected fabrics are stretched on frames. Frames can be the same size and shape, they can be different. Both options look good.

The main thing is the choice of colors ...

Next idea: find fabrics with matching colors. There can be three or four flowers here, and they should be found in different combinations in the selected patches. Usually take two base colors: white + black, white + gray, black + gray and one or two colors are added to them. Just keep in mind that "additional" colors should be present in the interior design. So, firstly, the panel will not be too colorful, and secondly, it will easily fit into the interior.

Found fabrics are again stretched on frames different sizes and placed on the wall. One moment: if it’s hard to miss with the same frames, then it can be difficult to beautifully arrange different sizes and shapes. Take a look at the photo and do something similar.

Black and white combinations are very popular

The third idea: find a large bright drawing, divide it into several fragments. It will turn out a kind of modular picture, which are so popular in recent years. If the fabrics you see do not inspire you, try to find scarves. Russian, Chinese ... with any ethnic motifs. Such paintings are 100% unusual and will help to highlight your home.

Lace fairy tale

Lace is a work of art in itself. It can simply be pulled over a contrasting substrate. Here you have pictures from unusual materials.

There is an idea that will help to make many different pictures from several napkins. Napkins, however, will be spoiled. So, we cover the frame with colored plain paper of a saturated tone. We apply lace, spray paint from a spray can. The paint must be contrasting.

Using this technology, you can make single paintings, you can make triptychs, Modular pictures etc. best effect turns out with knitted napkins. They have more relief drawing. The drawing of factory lace is harder to transfer to paper, although it is also possible.
