To work, you will need aluminum foil and scissors with smooth blades without nicks. There is no special foil for weaving. The usual "Sayan" foil in a roll of the "standard" brand will do. Do not take "heat-resistant" or "extra strong" foil for weaving, they are too hard, and calluses can form on delicate fingers from working with them. Roll length doesn't matter. Usually the width of the foil in a roll is 30 or 45 cm. Choose any, although for weaving cones a long roll is even preferable, since it is less likely to have to extend the working wire.

The foil itself is beautiful, shiny, but not very durable. Therefore, for weaving, we will use wires twisted from it. So we will start work with the manufacture of aluminum "straws". When I work with children, I always tell them to make a template out of cardboard, draw the foil into strips 3 cm wide with a blunt pencil, and then carefully cut along the lines. But you, I believe, are adults, and everything is fine with your eye.

Therefore, do not waste time, but take scissors and cut off 20-30 strips of foil 2.5-3 cm wide each from a roll. To prevent the foil from tearing, make long cuts (the entire length of the blade), and after each widely spread the tips of the scissors. Make sure that there are no burrs or cuts on the edge of the strip. Because of them, the strip can tear when twisting. Also, do not try to fold the foil before cutting into several layers, otherwise you will not be able to separate the cut strips from each other without tearing.

Now take one strip and with grasping movements of both hands ruthlessly crush it across the entire length.

Continue to crease the strip with your fingertips until it turns into an uneven "sausage" 5-6 mm thick.

Pinch the "sausage" between the large and index fingers both hands, and with a little pressure, roll back and forth, slowly moving from beginning to end. If there are irregularities, then walk over them again. Do not press too hard and do not roll the wire with your palms on the table, it should not become stiff. You should get a flexible rough wire 1.5-2 mm thick. and a length of about 25 cm (if the length of the original foil strip was 30 cm) or 40 cm (if the length of the original foil strip was 45 cm).

After you have woven 4 scales around the central ringlet, proceed to weaving the next row - thread the end of the working wire from the bottom not into the ringlet, but into the nearest ready-made scale of the first row and bend through it in the opposite direction, forming another scale.

Now, to start expanding the base of our cone, weave the first additional scale. To do this, again thread the end of the working wire into the same flake of the first row, on which the previous flake you woven was fixed. Bend the working wire, bend its end in the opposite direction and fix the fold with a light finger pressure.

Weave the next scale in the second row, as usual, fixing it on the next free scale of the first row.

After that, weave 5 more scales in a circle: additional, ordinary, additional, ordinary and again additional. Thus, the number of scales will increase from 4 to 8.

To make foil icicles, we need:

  • foil
  • scissors
  • sequins
  • floss threads

Cut out a triangular shape from the foil.

Bend the base of the triangle. We cut off a little floss thread and fold a loop handle out of it. Glue the loop on the edge of the foil folded in half.

We twist and squeeze the foil around the loop. We try to give the icicle natural look. It should be wider at the base and taper towards the end. We make several of these.

We cover the icicles with PVA glue.

While the glue is not frozen, sprinkle the icicles with blue or any other sparkles.

Shake off excess glitter from the icicles. Our "frosty icicle" is ready! You can hang icicles on a Christmas tree or decorate a chandelier with them for the Winter holiday.
